If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online application. Hi, I'm Colby, a charming and spirited German Shepherd X seeking my perfect match! Surrendered by my previous owner to Lancaster Shelter, I have already shown my love for people and children, having lived with kids aged 5 and 11. I am vocal and food-motivated dog, making me a delightful companion for those who appreciate a communicative and affectionate pup.

Read more about Colby

I'm crate trained, though I'm still working on house training, so a patient and understanding owner will be ideal. I have a high prey drive, so a home without smaller pets or livestock is essential. I'm reactive to other male dogs or strong-willed dogs but is accepting of submissive females of my own size. I need a quiet place with minimal distractions to thrive, as I can become easily stimulated and is a strong chewer who may try to explore beyond normal fencing. One of my favorite activities is splashing around in kiddie pools—it's my idea of heaven! However, I don't do well being left alone at home for long periods, as my investigative nature leads me to explore my surroundings. With the right environment and a loving family, I am sure to bring joy and laughter to your life. If you're ready to give unique and wonderful me the home I deserve, please put in an online application to meet me. *Thank you to Sharon for sponsoring this wonderful dog at the Burnice Kraemer Sanctuary and giving him the chance for a better life.

My previous owners had to surrender me because they could not provide the care I require.

I have some challenges that need attention from a patient and experienced owner. I would do best in a home with no cats or other dogs, and due to my food aggression, I may nip or bite when eating. I am also scared of loud trucks, so a calm and quiet environment would be ideal for me. I am house and crate trained, which is a great start! I will need continued training and behavior correction to help me become the best version of myself. I am not suitable for homes with young children but might do well with older children who know how to respect a dog's space and boundaries. I am looking for that special someone who can give me the time, love, and training I need. If you are up for the challenge and believe you can provide a stable, loving home, please fill out an online application to come and meet me. If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online application. Hi, I'm Homie, the ultimate canine companion with a heart of gold and an adventurous spirit! I am an affectionate, outgoing, and confident Husky / Australian Shepherd who is always up for a good time. My playful nature makes me a blast to be around, and my confidence means I'm always ready to tackle new adventures.

Read more about Homie

I'm house-trained and will politely scratch at the door and whimper if I need to go out. I know a bunch of cool tricks like sit, stay, lay down, jump, gentle, shake, and high five, and I walk beautifully on a leash. I am also a fetch fanatic and loves nothing more than a day at the beach or sunbathing in the yard. I'm an energetic guy who needs plenty of exercise and space to explore, so I'm not the best fit for indoor-only living. I am an escape artist if I find a hole or gap in the fence, so a secure yard is a must. I am a pro at socializing with other dogs, making me the perfect playmate for any doggy friends I meet, but not a fan of cats. I am great with older children but young children are an unknown as I haven't been around any. And while I'm a total softie most of the time, I do have a bit of a "no-no" attitude when it comes to nail trimming—so fair warning there! This might be something to consider with a professional groomer. I was surrendered by my previous owner but I'm ready to find my forever home with a family who can keep up with my active lifestyle and shower me with the love and attention I deserve. If you're looking for a fun-loving, adventurous, and affectionate pup to join your family, I am your guy! Streak is a one-year old Border Collie. She came into rescue with her momma dog and a sibling, but they will be adopted out separately. Streak is around 35 pounds.
All three, what can we say, Border Collies have a definite theme. Calm, sweet, loyal, smart and sweet (Said it twice for a reason!) Maybe occasionally there are exceptions, but these three fit the definition of a Border Collie. And they did have great breeding. It's obvious.
Sweet, soft, looking to connect, each one has had her muzzle my face, searching. trying to forge a bond. Every border collie is ultimately looking for that bond with their human.
Streak is good with all the other dogs.

19. Zeke

Young · Male · Australian Shepherd / Mixed (long coat) · 53 mi from Santa Maria

Welcome Xicaru (pron Zee-kah-roo) from Bakersfield Animal Care Center. Xicaru means “beautiful” in the Zapotec language of Oaxaca…and beautiful he is. This 1 year, 51lb Aussie mix isn’t just all looks - he’s a sweet, sweet boy. We’re calling him Zeke for short.
He’s playful, dog social, and people friendly. Sorry feline people, no cats. Otherwise, he’s a no-brainer. Zeke recently attended a 2 week board and train with his foster / dog trainer. She’s got him dialed in and is looking to pass the torch to a calm and confident, breed savvy leader as he transitions into a forever home.
He’s more than a pretty face.

Read more about Zeke

He’s a herder with real drive so he’ll need someone knowledgeable to help him scratch that itch. Zeke is also a very relationship oriented dog who thrives when he knows what’s expected of him, while also being honest that he’d prefer to be someone’s one and only. He’s done well with 95% of the dogs he’s met, but without a confident leader savvy in pack dynamics, he’ll take advantage. He’s also sensitive to wheeled objects - bikes, scooters, strollers. He’d be a great canine companion, either as an only or with another compatible dog. He tends to prefer female dogs. He’s crate trained, potty trained, knows basic obedience, and more. He is not cat friendly.
Zeke is microchipped, neutered, and UTD on vaccines.
Zeke is in Visalia.

I am barrier reactive and can be nervous, but once you earn my trust and get me on a leash, you'll see my true colors shine. I'm making new friends with staff and volunteers, relishing my time in my play yard too. I know basic commands - 'sit', 'down' and 'shake', walk beautifully on a leash and take treats very gently. It's not known if I'll be best buds with other dogs, if I'd get along with cats or if I'd do ok in a home with children. Right now I need a patient and experienced adult to show me that the world isn't so scary, and that I can feel safe and loved. I had a challenging start, and I am searching for someone to take a chance on me. I need an understanding family who can provide structure, patience, and lots of love to help me overcome my fears and blossom into the loyal companion I was always meant to be. Could you be the one to unlock my heart and show me what it means to be loved? If you're willing to open your heart and guide me on my path to healing, you'll be rewarded with the devoted companionship of a dog who will forever be grateful for the second chance you gave me. If you think you're my special person, please fill out an online application to meet me. *Thank you to Sharon for sponsoring this wonderful dog at the Burnice Kraemer Sanctuary and giving him the chance for a better life.

Why adopt an adult dog in Santa Maria

An adult dog's personality is fully formed, so the rescue can tell you how they are with people, other pets and busy households. Many have lived in foster homes and are already house-trained.

Grown dogs need less supervision than puppies and often know the basics, like sitting and walking on a leash, which suits people who work or have young children.
