Ellie #7 | 3-month-old German Shepherd mix | A Sweetheart Just Waiting to Blossom

Read more about Ellie

Meet Ellie, a sweet, fluffy girl with a big heart and so much love to give! At around 18 pounds already, this German Shepherd mix is likely to grow into a big girl. She's an affectionate cuddle bug who loves attention, especially from her favorite person, and is happiest when she's soaking up love. Ellie is also a sensitive, delicate little soul who is still discovering just how wonderful the world can be. She can be a little shy when meeting new people or experiencing new things, but a gentle approach, a few tasty treats, and some patience go a long way with this girl. Get down on her level and call her gently, and she'll often come right over for some affection.

Ellie's ideal home will be a calm, loving environment with a securely fenced yard where she can play, explore, and settle in at her own pace. She'll thrive with a family who understands that some things may take her a little longer and is happy to celebrate all the little milestones along the way. With gentle encouragement, positive experiences, and lots of reassurance, we know she'll grow into the happy, self-assured girl she's meant to be!

Like any puppy, Ellie has lots to learn! She's just beginning her house-training journey and working on basic commands, so she'll need a family willing to guide her with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. She's also getting comfortable with her crate and learning all about the routines of family life. She's very food motivated, which makes treats a wonderful way to build trust and make learning fun!

This playful girl loves toys, stuffed animals, treats, and even playing in the water! She has a moderate energy level and enjoys playtime, but when her puppy energy runs out, she's more than happy to curl up for some cozy cuddles. New or unexpected things can sometimes startle her, and she may bark while she figures them out, but she's learning more about the world every day.

Ellie has done well with dogs of all sizes and is also good with cats! A calm, older dog with a playful side would be an ideal companion for her. Someone who can show her the ropes, offer a little reassurance, and still enjoy some puppy playtime would be wonderful. She hasn't been formally introduced to children yet, so that relationship would need to be approached thoughtfully. She's definitely a mama's girl and seems to gravitate toward women, but with time and gentle encouragement, she can continue building trust with everyone in her family.

Ellie's story began in the desert near the Texas-New Mexico border, where she, her brother, and her mama were found when the puppies were only a week or two old. A kind person took in the whole family and cared for them, but Ellie needed a little extra help finding her forever home and eventually came into ARR's care. She spent much of her early life in a shed, where she was loved but had fewer opportunities for the everyday socialization and early learning that help puppies feel comfortable in new situations. She's now making up for lost time and discovering all the wonderful things life has to offer, one little adventure at a time.

Ellie is looking for a special family with a little extra patience, a lot of love, and a willingness to help her spread her wings (or paws!). A calm home with a fenced yard and, ideally, a friendly older dog would be the perfect setting for her. She has all the makings of a wonderful companion, and there's something pretty special about getting to watch a shy little girl come into her own. We can't wait for Ellie to find t

Asher #4 | 2-year-old Heeler mix | Your adventure-loving best friend

Read more about Asher

Meet Asher, a 35-pound bundle of sweetness with kind eyes and a heart full of love! This handsome grey-and-white boy may start out a little shy and skittish, especially around men, but give him a few minutes and he warms up quickly. Once he feels comfortable, he’s all about being near his people, cuddling on the couch, and asking for affection by resting his head on you, offering you his paw, or rolling over for belly rubs. He even has an adorable little prance that’s sure to make you smile!

Asher is a playful, energetic boy who thrives when he has plenty of activity and opportunities to explore. He loves playing fetch, going for walks, and spending time with his favorite humans. A quick stroll around the block won't cut it for this guy! He’ll be happiest with an active family who enjoys long walks, hikes, outdoor adventures, and daily play sessions. With plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, he can settle nicely at home, but an active lifestyle is where he truly shines. If he needs a little help entertaining himself, a tasty chew bone or favorite chew toy does the trick, giving him a fun and appropriate outlet for his energy.

Asher is friendly with dogs of all sizes and would love a canine companion to play with, though he has a submissive, gentle approach to making friends. He’s also fantastic with children, both young and older, making him a lovely candidate for an active family home. He hasn’t met cats yet, so his compatibility with feline friends is unknown.

This good boy is doing great with his house manners and hasn’t had any accidents in his foster home. When he needs to go outside, he’ll whine or stand by the door to let you know. He also does beautifully when left home alone for a few hours, without a crate, and has shown no signs of separation anxiety. He sleeps well through the night, knows how to sit, and is working on improving his leash skills and learning not to pull.

Asher is looking for a loving, active home that will give him the exercise, engagement, and companionship he needs to thrive. In return, you'll get a sweet, affectionate, playful sidekick who's ready to join you on life's adventures and then snuggle up with you after a busy day. And if you happen to have Greenies or baby carrots, you may just become his favorite person ever!

If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! Beatrice #3 | 4-month-old Lab mix | Your playful little cuddle bug

Read more about Beatrice

Beatrice is a 4-month-old Lab mix who is everything you would expect from a puppy: playful, friendly, cuddly, and full of puppy energy! She loves toys, especially plush toys, and is always happy to play fetch or romp around with her canine friends. And when we say she loves other dogs, we mean she LOVE, LOVE, LOVES playing with them! She is incredibly social and thrives on having a playful canine buddy. She also has a sweet habit of resting her head on you and loves to sleep right beside you—or sometimes right on your head!

Beatrice is doing really well with her house training and is almost there, although her new family should expect that accidents can happen while she adjusts to a new home. She sleeps well through the night and has done well when left home alone for 3–4 hours with another dog in the house. She may whine or bark a little at first when crated, but she settles down with time. She is still very much a puppy and is working on things like play biting, jumping on people, and learning that not everything is a chew toy. She is food motivated, loves toys and affection, and is responding well to structure and boundaries.

Beatrice is making great progress with her leash skills. She is fine with cats, and although she hasn't met children yet, we expect her to do well with kids of any age. She has had positive interactions with all the dogs she has met and absolutely adores playing with her resident canine friend. She doesn't seem to have a preference for men or women and is equally happy to make friends with everyone.

Beatrice came to us as a stray and is now looking for a family who is ready for all the fun, energy, and learning that comes with a young puppy. Her ideal home would have a yard where she can run and play, along with another confident, playful pup who can be her best friend and help show her the ropes. Her family should be ready to continue working on training, manners, and basic commands. If you're looking for a friendly, playful puppy who loves her canine friends just as much as she loves cuddles, Beatrice may be your girl!

If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. Read more about Bindi

Bindi is an adorable 4-month old brindle Lab mix with a big personality and plenty of puppy energy! This sweet, playful girl loves toys, playing fetch, and chewing on her favorite fish bone. She’s also a total cuddlebug who enjoys resting her head on you, showing off her belly for rubs, and doing the cutest little dances and prances. Bindi is motivated by both treats and affection, making her a fun little companion who is eager to learn.

Bindi is a social girl who gets along well with dogs of all sizes. She can be a little nervous around bigger dogs at first, but she warms up quickly and is soon ready to join the fun. She would love a home with at least one other dog, as she really enjoys having a canine friend around for company and playtime. An active family or adult who can keep up with her energy and include her in daily adventures would be a great match. She hasn’t met cats or children yet, so her compatibility with them is unknown.

Bindi is doing well with housetraining and is almost there! She has had a couple of accidents but is learning quickly and will stand by the door when she needs to go outside. She already knows several commands, including “come,” “sit,” “stay,” and “wait.” Leash walking isn’t her favorite activity just yet, but with patience and practice, she can continue building confidence.

Like many puppies, Bindi is still working on some of her manners. She may whine or bark when left alone, and she occasionally gets mouthy during play. The good news is that her play biting has already improved as she’s gotten older, and she’ll benefit from continued training and positive reinforcement.

Bindi is a fun-loving, affectionate puppy looking for an active home where she can keep learning, enjoy plenty of playtime, and grow up alongside a friendly dog companion. If you’re looking for a sweet, spirited little sidekick who will keep you smiling and happily snuggle up when playtime is over, Bindi could be your girl!

Benzo is a 4-month-old, Lab mix who is a sweet, friendly, playful little guy with plenty of puppy charm. He loves toys, chews, fetch, walks, and spending time with his people. He is also quite the character and has an adorable little dance and prance that will make you smile. When he's not showing off his moves, he loves resting his head on you and snuggling.

Benzo is almost house trained and will stand by the door when he needs to go outside. He is doing great with his kennel training and sleeps through the night. He enjoys a couple of short walks and some backyard play each day and then is happy to settle down. He already knows several commands, including come, wait, leave it, off, down, and no. He is food and toy motivated and responds well to training.

Benzo loves dogs of all sizes and has also done well with cats. He hasn't met children yet, so that is still an unknown. He can whine or bark a little when crated and is still working on his puppy habit of jumping on people, but overall he is calm, affectionate, and eager to please.

Benzo came to us as a stray from Houston, Texas, and would love an active family who enjoys spending time outdoors and can continue his training. Read more about Brenda

Brenda is a sweet, playful, and incredibly smart 4-month-old Lab mix who is always ready for her next adventure. She loves being outside, playing fetch, chewing on bones, splashing in the water, and generally keeping busy. She is very inquisitive and learns quickly — she already knows her name and several commands, including come, wait, leave it, off, and down.

Brenda is currently living with a male puppy and an adult female dog and does well with both. She has also had positive interactions with cats. She is still working on her manners around other dogs while on leash and can bark or growl when she sees them. She also likes to jump up to greet people, but she is just a baby and is working on learning that all four paws belong on the floor.

She is doing great with her kennel training, easily settles into her crate, and sleeps through the night. She is almost completely house trained and will stand by the door when she needs to go outside, although an occasional accident is still possible while she is learning.

Brenda is a happy little greeter who loves attention and will rest her head on you or roll over for belly rubs. She also has a funny habit of hiding her toys. She is food-, toy-, and affection-motivated, which should make continued training a lot of fun.

Brenda would love an active, outdoorsy home with a yard and people who are around frequently. She came to ARR as a stray from Houston, TX and is ready to find a family who will help her grow into the wonderful adult dog she is already showing us she can be.

We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 72 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails) .

Sassy #7 | 15-year-old Pomeranian/Corgi mix | A whole lot of love in a little, fluffy package

Read more about Sassy

Meet Sassy, a 14-pound bundle of sweetness with a big personality and an even bigger heart! Her shelter paperwork lists her as a Collie, but one look at this fluffy little lady and you’ll likely agree she’s much more of a Pomgi (Pomeranian/Corgi mix)! At 15 years young, Sassy has perfected the art of enjoying the good life: snuggling with her people, collecting affection, enjoying her favorite treats, and taking in the neighborhood from her stroller. She may be a little chunky, but she’s absolutely adorable and has plenty of love left to give!

Sassy is a low-energy girl who would much rather relax beside her favorite person than run marathons. She enjoys short strolls, car rides, itty-bitty stuffed toys, and all the treats she’s allowed to have. While she’s definitely not looking to become a fitness influencer, she does need some daily activity to help her shed a few pounds and stay healthy. Her signature move is resting her whole body on you and giving you a thousand kisses. She’s also a bit of a mama’s girl and will do her best to keep you in sight, even if navigating the stairs takes a little extra effort.

Sassy is also the PERFECT brewery dog, if that’s your thing! She absolutely loves meeting people and making new friends when she's out and about. With her adorable face and friendly personality, she'll have everyone wrapped around her little paw in no time. Just be prepared for her to steal the show!

Sassy is looking for a very specific type of home: adult-only, quiet, and preferably shared by just one or two people who are home most of the time. She needs to be the only dog in the household. Although she enjoys meeting other dogs in public, she can be territorial about her personal space at home and may become snippy when another dog gets too close. She is also comfortable around cats and generally ignores them. A home without children is a must; Sassy will be happiest with adults who can offer her the calm, predictable environment she needs.

Sassy has some significant medical needs, including severe hip dysplasia, advanced arthritis, mobility challenges, and chronic ear infections. She’s receiving medication to help manage her pain and keep her comfortable, and she has shown improvement with treatment. She also has some hearing loss, so she likely won't respond when you call her name. She appears to be mostly housetrained, though she occasionally uses a potty pad indoors. She doesn't need a crate; a comfortable, safe space to relax is much more her style.

Sassy needs a mellow, loving home where she can enjoy her golden years in comfort. With her mobility limitations, a home without lots of stairs would be ideal, but she still wants to be included in her people's daily activities. A cozy bed, gentle strolls, and someone committed to managing her medical needs will go a long way toward keeping her happy. Her foster family has even installed a bed rail to prevent her from accidentally falling off the bed at night!

Sassy may be a little bit of a hot mess, but she's a happy one! She has so much love to give and deserves to spend her remaining years surrounded by people who adore her. If you have a quiet home, lots of time for companionship, and room in your heart for a one-and-only senior girl, Sassy could be just the companion you've been looking for.

Read more about Sugar

Sugar is a 40-pound Yellow Lab mix with a huge heart, endless energy, and SO much love to give! This sweet, playful girl loves everyone she meets and is always ready to share kisses, snuggles, and plenty of happy tail wags. She loves playing fetch, going for walks, romping around the yard, and making friends with other dogs. When playtime is over, she’s happy to soak up affection, curl up nearby, and enjoy some well-earned rest. Kongs, puzzle toys, and anything crunchy are also big hits with this fun-loving girl!

Sugar is still learning her manners and working on housetraining, but she’s eager to please and responds well to praise and gentle, consistent guidance. She’s learning not to jump on people, play-bite, or turn shoes, clothes, and plants into chew toys. She’s comfortable in her crate and can stay home alone for a few hours, though she may bark or whine before settling in. As a high-energy pup, Sugar needs plenty of daily exercise, mental stimulation, and supervision to help her make good choices. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal, especially since she loves to chase squirrels and play fetch!

Sugar gets along well with other dogs and would love a playful canine companion who can keep up with her enthusiasm. She can be a little vocal when meeting new dogs, but she settles in with proper introductions. She hasn’t met cats or children yet, and because she’s energetic and still learning her manners, older kids who understand how to interact respectfully with dogs may be the best fit.

If you’re looking for a happy, affectionate adventure buddy who will keep you smiling with her goofy antics, shower you with kisses, and remind you every day how much you’re loved, Sugar could be your girl! She has so much potential and a heart of gold—she just needs a family ready to help her grow into the wonderful companion she’s meant to be.

Read more about Jessie

Jessie is a 27-pound sweetheart with a BIG personality and an even bigger supply of energy! This handsome Corgi/Australian Shepherd mix is friendly, playful, affectionate, and always ready for his next adventure. He loves people, enjoys playing with other dogs, and is just as happy soaking up attention on the couch as he is heading out for a walk.

Let's be clear: Jessie is a HIGH-energy dog who needs an active home committed to meeting his physical and mental needs. Long walks, hikes, running, interactive play, and enrichment activities will be important parts of his daily routine. His foster took him on a seven-mile hike, and he still had energy to spare! A quick stroll around the block won't cut it for this guy. He needs a family that genuinely enjoys an active lifestyle and will give him plenty of appropriate outlets for all that energy.

The good news is that Jessie can settle down nicely at home once he's had the activity he needs. He loves snuggling with his people and relaxing alongside his foster's dog. He's also doing well with house training and crate training, sleeps through the night, and can stay home alone for three to four hours.

Jessie is social with other dogs and has shown friendly curiosity toward cats, backing off when they set boundaries. He knows sit and down, is highly motivated by treats, and enjoys toys, especially rope toys and squeaky stuffed animals. He's still working on his leash manners and greeting skills, as his excitement can lead to pulling and jumping up on people. Continued training, consistency, and mental stimulation will be essential to help him thrive.

Jessie is looking for an active home that understands his energy level and is ready to make exercise, enrichment, and training a priority. In return, you'll get a loving, playful companion who's always up for doing things together and happy to finish the day with some quality cuddle time. If you're looking for a couch potato, Jessie probably isn't your guy. But if you're searching for an energetic adventure partner with a heart of gold, he might be exactly who you've been waiting for!

Left Eye | 8-Year-Old Collie/Shepherd Mix | Sweet, Gentle Companion

Left Eye is an 8-year-old Collie/Shepherd mix weighing about 29 pounds, with a beautiful black-and-white coat and a calm, gentle personality. She loves a peaceful lifestyle, cozy naps, and having her person nearby.

Read more about Left Eye

She’s house trained and easygoing at home, happy to curl up in her bed most of the day. She enjoys short walks around the block but prefers heading home to her favorite resting spot rather than going on long adventures.

Left Eye seems to do reasonably well around other dogs initially, but over time, she becomes increasingly submissive and timid. She may be happiest as the only pet, where she can relax and enjoy all the love and attention. She has shown a tendency to chase cats, so a cat-free home is recommended.

She can be shy when meeting new people, especially men, and will need a patient person who gives her time to feel comfortable and build trust. She is definitely more at ease with women so a single female adopter is the ideal, although the most important thing is finding someone who understands her gentle, sensitive nature. Once she feels safe, she enjoys affection, belly rubs, and quiet time with her person. She also loves soft squeaky toys and often carries them around the house and takes them to bed.

Left Eye experiences separation anxiety and may howl when left alone, so she needs a house rather than an apartment. She would do best with someone who is home most of the time and can provide a calm, predictable environment.

Left Eye has ongoing medical needs following the removal of cancerous tumors and currently takes chemotherapy medication, which she will need for at least a year. Regular veterinary checkups are important to monitor her progress.
ARR will cover her chemotherapy medications for six months following adoption and sponsor her adoption fee.

Left Eye is looking for a patient, understanding adopter who can offer a quiet home, plenty of companionship, and time to help her build confidence. A woman in a single-person household, with Left Eye as her only pet, may be her ideal match. In return, this sweet girl will offer gentle companionship and lots of love once she knows she's safe.

Brownie #11 | 1-year-old Aussie mix | Sweet, Smart, and Ready to Cuddle!

Read more about Brownie

Brownie is a beautiful 40-pound Aussie mix with a sweet personality and a big heart, especially when it comes to women! She’s incredibly affectionate, loves cuddling, and will happily rest her head on you, offer you a paw for pets, or roll over for belly rubs. She’s also a smart girl who knows several commands and is very motivated by treats. Brownie enjoys walks, fetch, toys, and even 1–2 mile jogs, but she’s just as happy to settle down and relax with her people afterward.

Brownie is super playful and absolutely loves having a dog friend! She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, is non-reactive on walks, and does great with cats and children. She would especially thrive with another confident dog who can be a fun playmate and help her feel more secure. Brownie is, however, very fearful of men, particularly those with deeper voices or larger builds. She may bark or try to move away, so she’ll do best in a female-only home where she can feel safe and build confidence at her own pace. If male visitors come over, she does better when they ignore her and give her space rather than trying to interact. With patience and understanding, Brownie has so much love to give!

She’s doing well with housetraining and can stay home alone for a few hours, although she may whine or bark initially. Crating is still a work in progress, and she can be a bit of a counter surfer when food is within reach, so keeping snacks out of reach is a must! Brownie is still gaining weight and growing her fur back, but she’s making progress every day.

This sweet, clever, playful girl is ready to find a loving home where she can feel secure, enjoy adventures, have a confident canine buddy to play with, and soak up all the affection she deserves.

This dog is a courtesy listing and not one of our dogs. Please contact the email listed in this post.

For more information, please contact mikliese@hotmail.com

Bio and Personality:

Read more about Otis

Otis is a 4 year old, 50lbs, hound mix. He loves to run and play, almost as much as he loves to sleep and snuggle. He happily joins long runs and long naps. He can play catch and is famous for leaping and twirling in the air to hit his mark. Otis is a smart, loving, playful lifetime companion. He is so deserving of a forever home where can show his people how much he loves them. Otis is at his best when he can get in two good walks a day plus some play time. In between, you can usually find him curled up on the coziest surface of the house, including under your covers. Otis would do best in a home with older kids and a yard to play in.

Training/Behavioral and Medical:

Otis is trained in all basic commands and walks well with a gentle lead. He's crate-trained and we've been working on barking, but he is very smart and picks up things very quickly. Otis is a neutered, up-to-date on vaccines including heartworm, and microchipped. He has no medical conditions or special dietary needs. He does love to eat fruits and veggies with his kibble!

Otis was rescued from downtown Chicago at about 4 years old. He shows signs that he endured a lot before he was rescued, but is very eager to overcome his past. For example, he is sometimes reactive around bikes if they surprise him and is fearful of smoke. That said, he had a bite incident a few months ago when he was overstimulated. His owner recounted that the one and only isolated incident occurred when he was on leash in a narrow walkway and a bike was swiftly coming up behind him. This made him nervous and his owner did not read the situation. Then, a woman approached from the front and tried to pet him. He snapped at her with just a single bite. Happy to share details with anyone interested in this sweet boy, who absolutely deserves another chance. He needs to be thoughtfully introduced to other dogs, and has become pals with them all. He has previously lived with a senior cat that he liked to groom. He's always been incredibly gentle and patient with kids. He is currently fostered with 2 other dogs who he loves to play with (one big and one small), and children. Otis is such a good, gentle, loving, playful boy who really needs to land in his forever home.

Panic! at the Disco | 2–3-year-old Chi/Rat Terrier mix | Your little Disco Boy

Read more about Panic at the Disco

Affectionately called “Disco Boy” or “Little Man” by his foster family, Panic! at the Disco is an 8-pound Chi/Rat Terrier mix who is a sweet combination of playful, cuddly, shy, and just a little bit quirky. He loves toys, snuggling under the covers, and being close to his people. He also has an adorable little mouth-play routine that will make you smile. Disco came to us from Denver Animal Shelter as an owner surrender and was extremely skinny when he arrived, weighing less than 7 pounds. He has done wonderfully since then and is now at a healthy weight.

Disco is definitely a Man's Man! He seems to feel most comfortable around men and takes considerably longer to warm up to women. His ideal home would be one with a man or multiple men, or a man and a very patient woman who understands that earning his trust will take time. He's nervous around strangers and needs people who will respect his boundaries, let him approach on his own terms, and avoid rushing the relationship. Once he trusts you, though, he's a loving little guy who enjoys affection and attention.

Disco does well with other small and same-size dogs and would really enjoy having a little canine friend to play with. However, he'll need time to warm up to a resident dog, too, so introductions and building that relationship will need to happen at his pace. He's also completely uninterested in the resident cat. A home without children is best for Disco, where he can enjoy a calm environment and build relationships at his own pace.

Disco is a medium-energy guy who is happy with some casual activity and then ready to settle down on the couch. He loves running around the yard and has learned to like going on walks. He can be a little nervous when having his harness put on or taken off, so his adopter will need to be patient and respectful of his boundaries.

House training is still a work in progress, but Disco is getting better every day! His new family will need to be patient and consistent as he continues learning. He has been left loose in the house for 5–6 hours and has done well.. He isn't currently kennel trained because his foster family doesn't use a kennel. Disco is very food motivated—understandably so, given how skinny he was when he arrived—and he is still learning to take treats politely. He doesn't know any formal commands yet, but he's making progress with structure and boundaries.

Most importantly, Disco needs an adopter who understands that earning his trust will be a process. The third "3" of the 3-3-3 rule is especially important for this little guy. While every dog adjusts at their own pace, the first three months are often when a rescue dog begins to feel truly secure and develop a deep bond with their new family. Disco may need that full time (and possibly more!) before he feels completely comfortable. His adopter must be willing to give him the patience, consistency, and space he needs without expecting him to become an instant best friend.

Disco's ideal home would have a man or men (or a man and a very patient woman), preferably another small dog to keep him company, no children, and someone who understands that good things take time. He doesn't need a marathon runner, just a loving person willing to let him settle in at his own pace. Once you're part of his trusted circle, you'll have a playful, cuddly little companion who loves nothing more than being close to his people—and sharing the covers!

Chris #1 | 5-year-old Chihuahua mix | Your tiny, sweet shadow

Read more about Chris

Chris is a tiny 5.5-pound Chihuahua mix with a huge personality and an even bigger love for his people. He is a sweet, affectionate little guy who loves being held, snuggled, and covered up like the tiny king he believes he is. He can be nervous and easily startled, especially around new people, but once he has a few minutes to warm up, his sweet personality comes shining through.

Chris is still working on leash skills and can bark at people, dogs, and things like wheeled objects that catch him off guard. He is improving with practice and enjoys short walks, but he would benefit from a patient person who can continue helping him build confidence. He does well with the dogs in his foster home, including both larger and smaller dogs, although he can be vocal when meeting dogs on leash. He absolutely cannot live with cats, as he will chase them and try to attack them.

Chris is still figuring out his potty routine, especially since he was sick when he first arrived. He is doing much better now that he feels better and seems to do well when given regular potty breaks. He may need a nighttime potty break and currently wears a belly band to help prevent marking or accidents. Like any dog adjusting to a new environment, accidents can happen while he settles into a new routine.

Chris's biggest challenge is being left alone. He does eventually settle when crated, but he can bark, whine, cry, and thrash around when first left. For this reason, he would do best with someone who is home much of the time or can take him along for the day. He is a low-to-medium energy guy who enjoys short walks but is happiest snuggled up with his person. He loves treats, squeaky toys, bones, car rides, and plenty of affection.

Chris would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a tiny sidekick who wants to be part of everything. He could be an only dog with plenty of human companionship or potentially enjoy having a confident, playful dog friend. He needs a cat-free home and would likely do best with older, calm children who understand that he can be easily startled. Give this little guy some patience, love, and time to feel secure, and you'll have a devoted little shadow who is very happy to be wherever you are.

Percy #2 | 10-month-old Black Mouth Cur mix | Your future snuggle buddy in training

Read more about Percy

Percy is a 10-month-old Black Mouth Cur mix, currently around 45 pounds and expected to reach 60–70 pounds. He’s a sweet, playful pup who has made great progress since arriving in his foster home. He’s still learning about the world, but once he trusts you, he turns into the ultimate velcro dog. Expect lots of cuddles, a head resting on your lap, and a furry shadow who would very much like to share your bed!

The world can be a pretty scary place for this sweet boy. New people, loud noises, and unfamiliar situations make him nervous, and it breaks our hearts because we don’t know what he may have experienced in his short life to make him so afraid. He needs patient, kind people who will give him time to feel safe and let him come around at his own pace. Once he feels comfortable, his sweet, affectionate personality really shines.

Percy does wonderfully with his foster family’s cat and loves to play with him! He also respects the older resident dog, who has helped teach him good doggy manners. He’d love a friendly, playful canine buddy of his own to romp with. Percy also spent a week with a family with two children, ages 9 and 11, and did great! He had no accidents during his stay, enjoyed the fenced yard, and even warmed up enough to let the daughter pet him by the end of the week. He’d do best with gentle kids who give him the time and space to approach them on his own.

Percy is still very much a puppy and is working on housetraining, manners, and learning what is and isn’t a chew toy. He is crate trained and can stay alone for a few hours, although he may fuss when left and needs continued practice building independence. He’ll thrive with a patient adopter who can provide structure, supervision, and positive training.

Percy would love a home with a fenced yard and a friendly canine buddy. An adopter with experience helping shy dogs—or a willingness to work with a qualified trainer—would be ideal.

Percy may need a little time to show you his heart, but once you're his person, you'll have a devoted, affectionate companion who will reward your patience with a whole lot of love. If you have a little extra room in your heart for a sweet boy who just needs help learning that the world isn't so scary, Percy could be your perfect match!

Keanu #3 | 3 year old German Shepherd mix | Your future adventure buddy

Read more about Keanu

Keanu is a 60-pound bundle of enthusiasm with a heart as big as his energy level. This handsome German Shepherd mix has never met a stranger—human or canine—and is happiest when he's playing, exploring, or simply being part of whatever you're doing. If you're looking for a loyal sidekick for hikes, long walks, fetch sessions, or trips to the water, Keanu is ready to sign up!

Keanu absolutely loves other dogs and would thrive in a home with a playful canine companion who can match his energy. Tug-of-war is one of his favorite games, and he could happily play all day. He's also a huge fan of toys, chewing bones, swimming, splashing in creeks, and pretty much any activity that keeps him moving. Even after two daily walks, fetch in the yard, and wrestling with his dog friends, he's often still ready for more fun.

He's doing wonderfully with crate training and happily relaxes there while his people are away, especially with another dog in the home. He's nearly house trained and is making great progress. Keanu already knows sit, stay, and wait, though he's still polishing those skills. Food is a great motivator for him, but his excitement can sometimes get the better of his focus.

Like many young dogs, Keanu is still learning his manners. He can jump on people, counter surf, play bite, and forget about personal space when he's excited. He also gets very distracted by rabbits on walks and is working on learning "leave it." With consistent training, structure, and positive reinforcement, he's already showing progress and has all the potential to become an incredible companion.

Keanu's ideal home is an active one with another energetic dog, people who enjoy outdoor adventures, and a family committed to continuing his training. He may not have had much structure before coming into rescue, but he's eager to learn and has all the ingredients to become a devoted, lifelong best friend. If you're ready to invest a little time and a lot of love, Keanu will reward you with endless affection, laughter, and unwavering loyalty.

Rejoice! Hermes, Greek Messenger to the Dogs is here! I didn't even have to use my amazing winged dog sandals - I arrived in Colorado on an airplane that brought me to rescue!
I have plenty of energy and I love to play. I act my age (two) and may even be a little younger. I like to stay busy and I'm pretty good at entertaining myself. Everything goes in my mouth, but I haven't destoyed anything except maybe blanket fringe. (Blanket fringe is a threat to my existence and I must attempt to destroy.) I am excellent in the crate overnight and when the humans leave the house. Getting sprayed with water while counter surfing is a fantastic game!
I'm very good at meeting other dogs while on leash.

Read more about Hermes

I quickly hit it off with the other dogs in my foster home, from the king of the castle to the little puppy. I'm learning that I don't need to resource guard random things. It helps when the other dogs ignore me because that makes it no fun at all.
I'm a 65 pound lap husky who will accept all the attention you can give me! I'm the dog who will be by right there by your side no matter what you're doing. I'm happy to join in work video calls by climbing into your lap if I'm not getting enough attention. I helped my foster mom put together a shelf by hanging my head over her shoulder and forcing myself into her lap. After a snuggle I just slept curled up next to her. I can help you pick up kids at school. You will need to book some extra time because I will attract a crowd! I recently attended a long outdoor event where I was petted and/or hugged by approximately 476 people and loved every minute of it. I became BFFs with a toddler who wouldn't leave my side and was so well behaved that someone thought I was a service dog. One guy came back to find me afterwards to get "just one more lean" from me.

How to adopt from Evergreen Animal Protective League

THE FIRST STEP to adopting an EAPL animal is to fill out a DOG ADOPTION APPLICATION. EAPL is a foster-based rescue. We do not have a shelter facility where applicants can come look at multiple animals at one time. All of our animals are in foster homes that range from Denver, to Evergreen, to Northeast Colorado - where they are loved and cared for until they are placed in a forever home. The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application, naming either one or a few of our Available Animals or providing a description of the type of animal you hope to adopt. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific animal, nor does it obligate you to adopt. Once we have received your application and determined that you are a good match for the requested animal, we will contact you.
