2. Odette
Adult (5 years 11 months) · Female · Boxer / Mixed (short coat) · 47 mi from Jacksonville

Odette has been at the shelter since July and is as sweet as they come. When the shelter noticed a mass on her vulva that was growing in size they sent out a rescue plea for her and we said yes please!
We cannot wait to address the obvious chronic allergies and infections her thickened ears and swollen paws have had to endure and get her mass addressed.

3. Pancake
Young (1 year 5 months) · Female · Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed (short coat) · 47 mi from Jacksonville

Pancake is just a goof who has been sitting at the shelter for a couple months already. She is deaf, and we are very excited to get to work with @savvydt to help our girl blossom.

4. Porkchop
Young (1 year) · Male · Black Mouth Cur / Mixed (short coat) · 47 mi from Jacksonville

Porkchop is just a good guy whose luck had ran out. (Until he met us that is.
) Him and others were set to be euthanized in order to clear kennel space at a small crowded shelter and we scrambled to be able to pull him just 24 hours before his set euthanasia date. Porkchop will be overlooked no more!

5. Laredo
Adult · Male · Terrier / Mixed · 31 mi from Jacksonville

Meet Laredo! Laredo spent the first 5 ½ years of his life with the only family he had ever known, from the time he was just a few weeks old. When circumstances changed, Laredo suddenly found himself without the home and family he had known his entire life. Now, this handsome boy is looking for the second chance, and forever home, he deserves.Despite everything he has been through, Laredo is a sweet, smart, people loving boy who enjoys meeting new people and being part of the action. He already knows sit and paw, comes when called, walks very nicely on a leash, and is both house trained and crate trained.

He’s also quite vocal and loves a good howl when he has something to say!Laredo is currently spending time with a professional trainer, where he is doing very well and giving us the opportunity to learn even more about him. He has done well with large female dogs and may also be compatible with more submissive large male dogs. He can be selective with confident male dogs, so any potential canine sibling would need to be carefully considered and appropriately introduced. His compatibility with smaller dogs is still being evaluated. One important thing we’ve learned about Laredo is that he really needs companionship. He does not do particularly well being completely alone and is happiest when he can be with his person. If his people are going to be away, Laredo needs the companionship of other compatible dogs around him. He would do best in a home where he won’t routinely be left completely by himself for long periods of time.Laredo does have a strong prey drive and cannot live with cats, chickens, or other small animals. We are also looking for a home without young children.Laredo loves being outside and having room to roam and explore. He does have a history of escaping, so secure fencing is important, and he should not be left outside unattended. Since settling into his current environment with plenty of space and secure 6-foot no-climb fencing, he has not been showing signs of trying to escape. Keeping him exercised, engaged, and included will be important in his new home.Laredo needs an experienced, committed adopter who can provide him with structure, consistency, exercise, attention, and plenty of love. He is an intelligent dog with so much potential, and with the right person willing to understand his needs, we believe he will flourish. After spending 5 ½ years with one family, we want to make sure Laredo never has to start over again. We aren’t looking for just any home for him, we’re looking for the home that will finally be his forever!

7. Robin Egg
Adult (5 years 1 month) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 47 mi from Jacksonville

We make a promise to our Swampies that once they are with us they will always be safe and loved. But sometimes, no matter how hard we try to prevent it, a promise gets broken. Three whole years of Robin being in her “forever” home and now she is back in our rescue yet again.
Read more about Robin Egg
We are heartbroken for Robin, who is confused and stressed in boarding - the only option we had with 30 minutes to make a plan for Robin’s future. Truthfully, Robin was not an easy dog for us the first time we had her. She was always sweet but she had no interest in humans other than to use them as a springboard and she had lots of, “little kid at a birthday party who had too much cake and missed nap time” type of energy. Robin could have ended up a million other places, many of which we believe would have led to her being pent up, overlooked, and declining in a shelter system she couldn’t get out of. We believe Robin found us for a reason. We worked to help her excited anxiety, we treated her for heart worms, and even sent her off to a training program which did wonders for her. And still we had Robin for a year before she got adopted.
Now, three years later it’s obvious how good home life has been for Robin. She is more settled. She wants affection and sits with her butt right next to you and leans in for pets. She is a different Robin we are getting to know again, but still Rob. She still has her very own unique, happy zest for life, and she still has the cutest stinkin’ happy face. Robin is cat friendly, older kid friendly, no dogs but is not reactive and is dog safe, and she is nondestructive in a home. She also has free life time refresher courses with her trainer. Robin is looking for someone who loves her for her quirks, not despite them. Please help us share Rob. She needs a foster or adopter ASAP. We are very worried she will regress from how far she has come if we cannot get her out of boarding. She is confused and struggling to understand where her family went and we swore to her we would do everything to not let it take another year this time to find her people.
Once a Swampie always a Swampie, and this time forever WILL mean forever.

Adopting a large dog in Jacksonville
Large dogs need room to stretch out and plenty of exercise: at least one good walk a day, and a secure yard is a bonus. Check your lease too, as some landlords limit the size or breed of dog.
Start training from day one. A big dog who walks nicely on a leash and doesn't jump up is a pleasure to live with, and many rescues can recommend a local trainer.
