1. Margaret
Adult · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Bulldog / Mixed (short coat) · 29 mi from Spring Hill

Margaret knows a little German, Spanish, and English. We’re hoping her next favorite words are “Let’s go home.”
At approximately 6–10 years old and 59 pounds, Margaret has years of experience being part of a household. Her previous owner shared that she lived indoors with adults and children ages 2–8, got along with the cats she lived with, and usually slept in bed with her people.
Her former family also described a love of toys and some very specific snack favorites: frozen peanut butter treats, ice cubes, and blueberries! Those familiar pleasures could be a lovely way to help her settle into a new routine.

Margaret previously shared her home with other dogs. Talk with shelter staff about introductions to any dogs in your home so Margaret can find comfortable companionship.
With her brown eye patch and cheerful expression, this lovely girl has plenty of charm. Come meet Margaret and give her the chance to be someone’s much-loved family dog again.
She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested, and vaccinated.

2. Faith V
Puppy (3 months 12 days) · Female · Beagle / Mixed (medium coat) · 41 mi from Spring Hill

Faith was found abandoned (probably dumped) at the end of a dirt road by a mechanics shop. That is where this sweet baby's story, as we know it, begins. It is beyond wonderful that we can now make that story so much better! Faith is currently being fostered in Georgia and is a happy little puppy who is delighted to have soft, clean bedding, nutritious puppy food and lots of love! She may not be quite as delighted with the deworming and vaccinations however. We do not know who her mother or father were but we estimate her to be somewhere between 12 and 14 weeks at this writing, so possibly a birth date of around 7/23.
Read more about Faith V
Currently she weighs 10.4 lb. When Faith has had a few more vaccinations and is ready for transport, we will bring her to Florida where we have an excited foster home waiting for her. She will be spayed, microchipped and ready for adoption the weekend after Thanksgiving. If you are interested in possibly adopting Faith, please submit an adoption survey right away and our Adoption Team will contact you promptly to discuss our adoption policies for puppies. Please note that once approved you will be required to make a $100.00 deposit towards her adoption fee in order for us to hold her for you. Thank you for seeking to adopt from a rescue!

4. Lex
Senior (8 years 9 months) · Male · Beagle · 41 mi from Spring Hill

Lex is good with dogs, cats, and even chickens, but not a fan of the new crawling baby. Lex's family had loved him since he was a puppy but made the difficult decision to reach out to Southeast Beagle Rescue to find him a loving home. He has pleasantly suprised us with his vitality as he's still active enough to give squirrels a good chase and jumps for joy when he sees a leash... and he is pretty good on leash! He has enough energy to be fun but not so much that it's overwhelming. He's also shown us that he is able to handle new situations well. He was used to home-cooked meals (loves broccoli and oranges and of course chicken).
Read more about Lex
He was also used to having a dog door where he could go in and out as he pleased. But he's learning to gradually enjoy a bit of kibble now and then and also to ask to go out and come back in. We would really like to see him in a home with a fenced yard and a dog door again though. Lex wants to be around his people and is often curious to see what they are doing, but he is not a velcro dog and doesn't get stressed when foster mom is out of his sight. He is however very vocal and will let you know quickly if someone is walking down street. Lex's que to crate up is "Go home, Lex," and he is comfortable sleeping in his crate at night. But one thing that's especially important to him is having his blanket. He loves putting his nose underneath it and sometimes covers himself almost completely. Lex is usually a confident dog and isn't bothered by thunderstorms, fireworks, or loud noises. He's a smart boy and knows quite a few commands and tricks! He understands "Sit," "Lay down," "Come here," and "Leave it." He also knows "High five" and "Roll over." One of his fun tricks is "1, 2, 3, catch!" He knows to get ready to catch something when he hears the countdown. Lex can have that beagle stubborn streak and does not like being pushed off of furniture. Instead when he needs to follow directions, he responds to a countdown of "5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and of course chicken. This gorgeous guy is fully vetted and ready to go on sleepover.

5. Sketch
Young (2 years) · Male · Beagle · 41 mi from Spring Hill

Sketch is really a happy-go-lucky little guy who seems to have a permanent wag in his tail! He loves getting affection from people, enjoys going for walks, and has a lot of fun with toys-- especially the ones with squeakers which he renders squeakerless! Sketch likes other dogs and is playful without being overpowering, and he has done well in a home with cats. House training is coming along great and he learned to use the doggie door very quickly. Things Sketch is still working on are to keep all four paws on the floor when greeting people and he is also still figuring out some household boundaries.
Read more about Sketch
Although he accepts verbal corrections well, his curiosity sometimes just gets the best of him. He’s been known to climb on top of his crate in pursuit of cat food, hop onto the metal storage can on the patio to peek through the kitchen window, and use a side table to keep an eye on the yard guy at work. Clearly, he doesn’t want to miss a thing. He is not frequently vocal, but the few times Sketch has been heard to sing out the famous beagle arroo it is definitely rousing! At night, he’s fantastic in his crate. He may whine a little when the sun starts coming up, but he doesn’t make a big fuss. Sketch is easygoing about handling. He let his foster mom clean his ears and handle his feet without complaint. All in all, he’s a loving, cheerful guy with a curious mind, a playful spirit, and plenty of personality. Sketch is also heartworm negative and ready to go on sleepover.

6. Scribble
Young (2 years) · Male · Beagle · 41 mi from Spring Hill

Scribble was a little timid when he first arrived but the other dogs in his foster home are really helping him to gain confidence. He follows them in and out of the house and they all enjoy hunting for lizards. He is usually pretty quiet but when he gets on a scent he lets out that delightful and musical beagle ARROO! Scribble is doing really well with house training but is still a youngster and with his chewing urge seems to have a liking for flip flops. Foster mom redirects him to appropriate chew toys which he also likes - and plush toys. He is most definitely a happy boy with a wagging tail and although he requests back scratches and petting, Scribble is still a little uncertain with people and will sometimes cower down.
Read more about Scribble
He does not seem to be familiar with dog beds and chooses instead to curl up on a throw rug. The other dogs in the house often inhabit the couch, but he only jumps up when they are announcing something worth watching for out the nearby window. There are several cats in his foster home which he completely ignores. He does not ignore food though - oh no, he is typical beagle there and good thing foster mom is experienced as he has found the kitchen counters and garbage can to be a temptation. We would prefer for Scribble to have a fenced yard and he would do best with another dog. This little 2 year old is learning well and will grow up loved. Scribble is neutered, vaccinated and tested heartworm negative so he is ready to go on a sleepover!

MEET VIOLET & FIONA — A BONDED PAIR WITH DOUBLE THE LOVE!
Read more about Bonded Pair
Some things are simply better together… and Violet & Fiona are definitely a package deal. These adorable Shih Tzu girls are best friends, playmates, cuddle buddies, and each other’s little security blankets.
Violet is the social butterfly of the duo — cheerful, playful, and always ready for some fun. She loves squeaky toys, wrestling with Fiona, and getting attention from her people. She can be a little opinionated when meeting unfamiliar dogs on leash (apparently she has standards ), but with patience and proper introductions, she settles in nicely.
Fiona is the smaller, softer soul. She’s a little more cautious at first and looks to Violet for confidence and reassurance. Give her a little time to feel safe, though, and out comes an incredibly sweet, affectionate little cuddlebug. She loves her people, loves her routines, and REALLY loves her Violet.
These two spend their days playing, wrestling, snuggling, and simply enjoying life together. They’re well-mannered girls who thrive with consistency and routine.
♀️ One funny little quirk: these ladies prefer to handle their potty business while out on walks rather than simply heading into the yard. They clearly believe a bathroom break should include a proper outing. Fiona may also have occasional urinary accidents, so she’ll need a family willing to give her frequent potty opportunities and a little patience while she adjusts.
What they’re looking for most is a home where they can stay together and be loved for exactly who they are.
With Violet bringing the confidence and fun and Fiona bringing the gentle sweetness, these two complement each other beautifully. ❤️
Two little dogs. Two very different personalities. One very special bond.
Violet & Fiona are ready to find their forever family — together.
Violet & Fiona's adoption fee is $800 - fully enclosed fenced yard required

8. Theresa
Senior (10 years 1 month) · Female · Beagle · 41 mi from Spring Hill

Theresa LOVES to cuddle and she seems to be especially fond of her foster dad! Being near her people is definitely one of her favorite places to be. She fit right in upon arriving at her foster home, learned the doggie door quickly, and appears to be fully housebroken. She is fine being crated when the family is gone and also at night she sleeps in her crate in the bedroom. Of course… if she had it her way, she’d be snuggled up on the bed with you! She settles down easily and is just happy to be with you. She gets along great with the other dogs in her foster home and we think she would enjoy having a canine friend.
Read more about Theresa
She has a healthy respect for cats, she finds them fascinating but stays away from them. Theresa loves toys and is always ready for some fun. She’s respectful of the house — she’s only been caught chewing on something that wasn’t hers once. She enjoys exploring the backyard and taking in all the interesting smells and sounds around her. She’s sweet, affectionate, easy to live with, and has so much love to give. She doesn’t need a perfect home — she just needs a forever home where she can be loved, included, and allowed to be the cuddly, happy girl she is. Don’t let this beautiful girl get overlooked. She is ready to be someone’s very special dog — and someone is going to be incredibly lucky to call her theirs. She is heartworm negative and ready for a sleepover!

9. Mabel Joy
Adult (6 years 3 months) · Female · Beagle · 42 mi from Spring Hill

Mabel was found in March, dumped, and roaming in a large hunting preserve. She was severely underweight and covered in ticks and fleas. Despite all of that, she was immediately friendly and just wanted love—even while we were pulling ticks off of her. For the first two weeks, she was so afraid of being indoors that she slept in our Florida room and would not come fully inside the house. With time and patience, she has warmed up and is now a total ham.
She is fully vetted:
Up to date on vaccinations
Microchipped
On Simparica Trio for fleas, ticks, and parasites
Read more about Mabel Joy
Personality & Household CompatibilityMabel is affectionate, playful, goofy, and has a classic beagle personality. She has discovered the joy of:
Having her own bed
Sharing human beds with people and other dogsShe loves snuggles, belly rubs, and light play/wrestling. She’s on the clumsy side when she’s excited on the bed, which just adds to her charm.
She currently lives peacefully with:
Multiple dogs
Cats
A ferret
A 9‑year‑old child
She has done well with all of them. She genuinely enjoys other dogs and likes to cuddle and play with canine friends. She’s estimated to be around 6 years old, but still has a good amount of play in her.
Known Challenges & Training NeedsGiven her history, I strongly suspect she was an outdoor dog and likely abused. She has physical scars, and behaviorally she tends to shut down with any negative reinforcement, so she absolutely needs a positive‑reinforcement, beagle‑savvy home.
Areas we are still working on:
Potty training:She’s made progress but isn’t 100% consistent yet. To be fair, we have two senior dogs who use potty pads, which makes things confusing for her. A more straightforward setup and consistent routine should help her continue to improve.
Resource guarding:
Mabel came to us extremely thin and food-insecure. She has gained over 10 pounds since arriving and looks much healthier, but she still guards food and will steal from other dogs if given the chance. She currently eats separately and does best with structured mealtimes. Her guarding has only involved growling and occasional barking—she has never bitten or made contact over resources in my home. She can also guard human attention and bed space a bit, so adopters should be comfortable with management and positive training around this.
Recall: Her nose is all beagle—once she’s on a scent, her recall can suffer. A securely fenced yard is strongly preferred, and off‑leash should be limited to safe, enclosed areas.
Chewing: She is still a chewer and is learning what’s appropriate vs. off‑limits. She does well when supervised with proper chew options and will need ongoing guidance here.
Ears: She has chronically yeasty ears and will need regular at‑home ear care (enzymatic washes and otic cleaner) to keep them comfortable.
Crate & vocalization: Mabel is not great in a crate at this point and is very vocal, as you’d expect from a beagle. She uses her voice outside and will bark at the door when she’s ready to come in. A home that understands beagle volume and doesn’t share walls with sensitive neighbors would be ideal.
Ideal HomeMabel would do best in:
A beagle‑experienced (or hound‑experienced) home
With at least one other dog of similar age and energy level for companionship and play
Ideally, with someone who works from home or is around a good portion of the day
A securely fenced yard, as we are still working on leash manners, and her nose can override her recall
She’s spayed, loving, and absolutely has the makings of an excellent family dog—especially for a family that likes a goofy, cuddly, vocal beagle and is willing to continue her training with patience and positive reinforcement.
Mabel has survived a lot and truly deserves a life that is much better than how it started. Won't you give her a forever home?

10. Patience
Senior (8 years 2 months) · Female · Beagle · 41 mi from Spring Hill

*ADOPTION FEE SPONSORED BY: ACCORDING TO ELLIE *Patience is kind of the Betty White of Dogdom. She is sweetly innocent, always cheerful with a wagging tail, but there's a mischievous glint in her eye that says she's ready to play the clown and get goofy. She definitely has a joie de vivre. Her name is really appropriate for a couple of reasons. She most likely had a past that required forbearance and long-suffering. Probably had a lot of babies. It also takes patience to walk her as this girl is not going anywhere fast AND wants to smell everything along the way. She is great at going potty outside but you do have to make sure she goes outside regularly.
Read more about Patience
She is extremely food motivated so the tiniest little treat will get her on her way out the door. She is friendly to other dogs but doesn't really need them around. She appreciates so much the kindness shown to her and petting and belly rubs of course are very obviously enjoyed. She is fine being crated and will not eliminate in the crate. She occasionally gives a funny little bark but she's mostly very quiet. She has had a good dental cleaning with only 4 extractions along with a few growths removed - two around her eye which concerned us just because of their location. This lovely senior girl is negative for heartworms but does have a little arthritis and a heart murmur. She is currently taking Dasaquin and she recently had an echocardiogram for her heart murmur and she is maintaining heart function well on Vetmedin and Benazepril. Patience is a calm and quiet companion to share life with and providing for her in her later years would be a gift.

11. Charlie
Senior (13 years 1 month) · Male · Dachshund / Beagle / Mixed (short coat) · 37 mi from Spring Hill

Hi, I'm Charlie — I've come out of my shell since arriving at DARE. I've got a great appetite, and I wake up every morning happy and bouncy, ready to run with the pack, chase squirrels, water the field, and investigate every tortoise hole I can find. Not bad for a 13-year-old, if I do say so myself.
My Ideal Home
Good with kids, cats, small dogs, and everyone in the house — but I do best as an only dog or with small dog/cat companions only, since I'm not great with big dogs. I love sleeping in bed with my people (or in my crate, if that's the house rule), and I'm house-trained, crate-trained, and up for leashed walks with plenty of sniffing.
Read more about Charlie
A Few Important Things to Know
- Not a fan of big dogs: I do best as the only dog, or alongside small dogs and cats. Big dogs aren't my thing.
- Thunderstorm anxiety: Storms make me nervous — a calm, comforting space during bad weather goes a long way with me.
What I Bring to the Table
I've got morning energy, a zest for squirrel-chasing, and a curiosity about the world that most pups half my age would envy. I'm sweet, I listen well, and I'd be forever grateful to the person who gives me a soft (and adventurous) place to land for my golden years.
If you know I'm your forever pup, fill out an adoption application at daretorescue.org/adoption-application — and don't forget to put Charlie on your application!

12. Barnett
Senior (12 years 3 months) · Male · Beagle · 41 mi from Spring Hill

*ADOPTION FEE SPONSORED BY: ACCORDING TO ELLIE *Barnett may be an older gentleman but he has such a young spirit! He is active, seeks out and engages with his humans and loves to explore the backyard in his foster home. He's such a happy boy and his tail is always wagging! Barnett has mastered the doggie door and his house training is going well, although not perfect yet. Foster mom is taking him to weekly obedience classes to socialize and he's quickly learning come and sit. He is doing well walking on a leash too. We are hoping he will also learn stay, wait, and leave it ...we will see! When Barnett meets new people he gets excited but calms quickly, and on walks he has been friendly with all the dogs we've introduced him to, even if they were not as friendly or welcoming to him.
Read more about Barnett
However, we do believe that Barnett will do best as an only dog. He shows occasional curiosity towards the cat, but redirects easily. He has also done well interacting with children. He has spotted squirrels, frogs and lizards in the yard and loves chasing them yet has never gotten close to catching them. He likes bones or bully sticks and will carry them around with him, and he occasionally plays with stuffed toys. He is VERY food motivated!! At night Barnett sleeps in his doggie bed or crate in his foster mom's bedroom or on her bed. When foster mom leaves for work, Barnett does bark and has some anxiety if he sees her leave, so she gives him a frozen dog treat or toy to distract him for a while. If he doesn’t see her leave, he transitions well to being alone. In the beginning, Barnett was not really a lap dog, but the longer he is in his foster home, the more affectionate he is becoming! He loves head scratches and praise and is starting to want snuggle and curl up with foster mom to nap. We would really like to see Barnett in a home that can show patience and kindness and also maybe provide him a fenced yard where he can explore. SPECIAL NOTE: Barnett is heartworm positive and, after doing x-rays, we were advised to do Doxycycline and Proheart and retest him in 9 months, and not to do the injections at this time. We would still love to see him get adopted and would certainly be willing to discuss his treatment plan and possibly making our future financial support for that a provision of the Adoption Agreement.

Meet Dixie
Read more about Dixie
Dixie is the gentlest soul who didn't fight back during a senseless attack. Now, she needs our community to step up so she doesn't lose her leg.
The Medical Reality
The trauma Dixie endured is severe:
The Damage: Her wrist is "crushed to pieces" with extensive ligament damage. She is missing bone in her foot, and at least two toes will likely need to be removed.
The Bandaging Costs: To fight infection and promote healing, Dixie requires daily professional bandage changes ranging from $470 to $600 per visit.
The Surgical Goal: We are pushing for a specialized surgery next week. Options include a wrist fusion or synthetic bone grafting to reconstruct her foot and avoid amputation.
We Are Her Only Hope
Amputation is a last resort. Heidi’s Legacy Dog Rescue has stepped in to save Dixie from being euthanized, but they cannot handle the massive financial burden alone. "She simply endured the pain. Now, we must help her find the healing.
Dixie has been a trooper with her daily bandage changes. She has become a bit irritated so now she has yo have light sedation with every change. We did find a "regular " vet to do the weekend changes but it still cost over $400 a day.
When she is not at vet she enjoys her own private room, stuff toys and a ball. She does wander around the fosters home but prefers her own bedroom just like your normal "teenager".
We hope to get another update soon from orthopedic surgeon but right now the plan is still to save the leg with either fusion or an internal fixator.

15. Colleen
Adult (4 years 6 months) · Female · Beagle · 41 mi from Spring Hill

Colleen is a tender soul and a real people lover. She is also very good with other dogs, both male and female, and gentle with cats. One cat she met bopped her on the nose and Colleen just rolled over on her back. :) She was seen being dumped from a car, but fortunately she was rescued and taken to a very good shelter. She has now settled in well in her Florida foster home. She has a moderate to low energy level, will occasionally play with toys and sometimes with other dogs. Although she likes her food, she is not super food motivated and a little crazy like some beagles can be. She also walks well on leash.
Read more about Colleen
Colleen will make someone the most calm, serene and loving companion. She tested positive for heartworms but has completed her treatment and ready for a sleepover. She does need a home where people will not have to leave her alone very much because she has exhibited some separation anxiety.

Bringing a dog home to your cat
Tell the rescue about your cat: their age and how they react to dogs. A dog who has lived calmly with one cat may still want to chase a cat that runs.
Introduce them slowly. Keep them apart for the first few days and swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior.
Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, like a high shelf or a room behind a baby gate, and keep the litter box and cat food out of the dog's way.
