• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I've done very well with the two dogs in my first foster home, both of whom were male and around 15–20 pounds. I was very respectful when meeting them, even rolling over to show my belly to the more nervous one. Once they became comfortable with me, I got the zoomies and started inviting them to play! I shared toys nicely, enjoyed a fun game of tug-o-war with one of them, and loved having playmates. If the more nervous dog felt I was getting a little too energetic, he would give me a correction, and I listened, backed off, and gave him space. Of course, I'd kindly try again a little later—lol! I've been a wonderful housemate and have shown that I can be playful while still respecting another dog's boundaries. So, if you have a nice dog at home already, let's meet! / I've had a lovely introduction to the cat in my first foster home! I was very gentle and respectful of my new feline friend! Of course, all cats are different, so I'm not sure how I would do with another kitty. / I haven't met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let's meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I was a shy guy at the shelter, but once I went into my foster home, my fun-loving, happy personality just came out to surprise my foster family! I guess you could say I'm a pretty easygoing houseguest with a happy heart and a love for being part of the fun. I can't wait to settle into a home of my own where I can share in all the good times with you! / Energy level: 4-6.

Stuffed toys are fun, and a good game of tug-o-war is always a hit with me! I'm sure we'll discover lots of other things we will enjoy doing together once I'm settled in my new home. / Other than being at the shelter, I can't think of any dislikes, though like all dogs, I'm sure I wouldn't like it if I didn't get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and wasn't quite ready to play with them, though I didn't show any aggression. In my foster home, I played with the nice 3-year-old and 11-year-old dogs. The 3-year-old dog is a good match for my energy level because we are very active! I don't always read the signs yet when another dog is finished playing, but I'm working on it, so if you have a nice, active dog at home already, let's meet and see if we can be friends. / Cats unknown. / I haven't met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, but I may be a bit too much for young children since I'm a little mouthy when I play, so let's meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I'm a beautiful, sweet, happy and friendly girl with a gentle, polite nature and a desire to please! I've been an active, and cuddly girl who has fun in the Mostly Mutts play yard with the volunteers and even showed off my favorite “downward dog” yoga stretch! I can be a little shy and unsure about new things, and I was timid during my bath at first, but I'm warming up as I get more comfortable. I'm currently a little more comfortable with women, so having a female take the lead initially may help me feel at ease. With patience, gentle guidance, and positive experiences, I'm sure my confidence will continue to grow, and I'll become more comfortable with everyone I meet. / Energy level: 4-6.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program, so, I've mastered the 'sit', 'stay', 'down', 'come', 'drop it', 'leave it' and 'place' commands. I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. Let's continue my training as there are more classes I can take through the free lifetime training that Mostly Mutts offers for their rescue dogs. / My crate manners are good in my foster home, though it's not my favorite place so I wouldn't want to spend a lot of time in a crate./ My potty manners were pretty good on the shelter schedule and are improving in my foster home as I'm following the other dogs leads and I've learned to use a doggie door out to a securely fenced yard which has been helpful in my learning.

• LIKES/DISLIKES: I love playing with toys, chasing tennis balls, going on hikes and being active with my family! I also like being pet in your lap when I'm sleepy. My foster says that I'm a "happy cuddle bug!" I'm sure we'll discover lots of other things we like doing together once I'm all settled into our new home. / Other than being rushed into new situations or with new people, like all dogs, I'm sure I wouldn't like it if I didn't get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.

• MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed.

I'm a wonderful dog looking for a family that will make me a special part of their lives and love me furever! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I'm located in Kennesaw, Ga.

25. Catoosa

Adult (8 years) · Female · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat)

Cat is a sweet, quiet, gentle girl who likes to take life at her own pace. She’s very low-maintenance and doesn’t ask for much—just a cozy spot to relax, some loving pets, and plenty of snuggles.

Cat can be a little shy at first. She came to us from a cruelty case about a year ago, and while she has come such a long way, she still takes a little time to feel comfortable and trust new people. She has enjoyed going on short, slow strolls and spending time with volunteers, and we’ve watched her confidence grow along the way.

Now, Cat is ready for the next chapter—a quiet, loving home where she can continue to blossom and finally have a family of her own.

Cat is also missing some teeth, which gives her the cutest little tongue-out smile! It doesn’t require any extra medical care—it’s simply one of the little things that makes Cat uniquely Cat.

If you’re looking for a calm, sweet companion who would love nothing more than to be loved, snuggled, and spoiled, Cat may be your girl.

My foster says that I’m “a true velcro girl and just wants to lay with you and be by your side and really is one of the sweetest dogs I have met.” I also have the cutest little trot/prance. I was a perfect angel for my bath and showed off my beautiful coat, too. With patience, love and reassurance, I'm sure I'll continue to blossom into the happy, confident companion I'm meant to be! / Energy level: 4-6.

It's best if I go outside right after I come out of my crate and sniff around a bit to find a nice, private spot to go potty. Since I'm still fearful outside, my foster carries me to a wooded part of the yard (on leash) and that has helped me.

• LIKES/DISLIKES: I like cuddling with my foster on the couch and playing with my soft squeak toy. Ear scratches are great too and just hanging around the home with you! I don't like being left home alone so a family who is home a lot would be ideal for me. Like all dogs, I'm sure I wouldn't like it if I didn't get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.

• MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I'm on an over-the-counter joint supplement called Cosequin that's good for all older dogs. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and liked them. I also went on a daytrip recently with my trainer and saw lots of dogs from a distance, showed some interest, but was very polite, even with those who barked at me . . . because I'm a very good girl! Adopting a dog in Bartow County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
