3. Sir Charles
Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 14 mi from Madison

All hail Sir Charles III! Being Australian royalty, his new decree is that he requires a certain type of attention. This attention is basically knowing what he wants, before he wants it. That means that humans are at his beck and call especially around dinner time. He requires a private dining experience because he guards what is precious to him (this includes toys, food or food bags, and anything else he deems royally important). He doesn’t think twice about who his playmates are, whether they be royal subjects or peasants, he plays with them all, big and small. While Sir Charles weighs in on the scales at a mere 12 pounds, his attitude weighs in like that of a great white shark Though unlike a great white, he doesn’t want to devour everyone in his path, for he is still a young pup and learning how to be a proper royal. Sir Charles is available to be adopted to an approved home.

5. Ziggy

Ziggy is a beautiful, happy-go-lucky girl with a heart full of love and a personality that makes everyone smile! She absolutely adores everyone she meets and has done wonderfully with adults of all ages, as well as teenagers. This sweet girl already has some impressive manners and routines under her belt! She knows how to sit, walks on a leash, loves a good game of fetch (and knows how to drop!), and is crate trained. Ziggy is always up for a little fun! She loves car rides and seems like the kind of girl who would happily tag along on just about any adventure. At home, Ziggy has the perfect balance of playful and relaxed.

6. Gerald
Adult (1 year) · Male · Great Pyrenees (long coat) · 37 mi from Madison

Meet Gerald, a giant, cuddly baby who is 100% convinced he’s a lapdog! Sweet as can be and endlessly goofy, this oversized puppy gets along wonderfully with kids of all ages, adults, and other dogs. When he’s not throwing his favorite squeaky toys around the room, Gerald’s primary mission is snuggling—whether that means laying across your feet, leaning in for endless pets, or using you as his personal mattress. Because he thrives on human connection and just wants to be part of the action, Gerald would do best with a family where someone works from home or is open to doggy daycare. His ideal adopters won't mind a little extra fur, routine drool, and a gentle giant who is still learning spatial awareness and realizing he's slightly too big to actually fit in your lap.

7. Apollo
Adult (1 year 1 month) · Male · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (long coat) · 37 mi from Madison

Meet Apollo, a sweet little Yorkie who is still learning that the world and the people in it are safe! Because Apollo didn’t have much human socialization before coming into rescue, he is very timid at first and needs a calm, patient person, preferably at home alot, willing to give him time and space to settle in. It takes him about three weeks to truly open up, but once he trusts you, he becomes your devoted little shadow—following you everywhere, keeping you company, and cozying up right at your feet. Interestingly, Apollo isn't shy around other dogs at all! He lights up around canine companions of any size, especially bigger dogs and loves to join in on playtime, and gains so much confidence from having a doggy buddy to guide him.

His ideal home includes a securely fenced yard for outside sniffing and exploring, plus a friendly, playful resident dog to help show him the ropes. If you have a peaceful heart, a little patience, and a cozy spot near your feet, Apollo is ready to grow into your most loyal friend! Apply today on the MACS Friends website!

13. Fred
2 Years · Male · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed · 49 mi from Madison

Fred is one of those dogs that looks into your eyes and just gets you. When we took him from the shelter, he knew he couldn't go back. He is sweet, not overly hyper, and thinks of himself as more of a human than a dog. While he lives at a doggy daycare, he would be happiest in a home that he got to be the number one guy in the group ;) If you are interested, please apply at https://savecares.com/adoption-application/

Daisy
...You Just Found Your New Best Friend!
This girl is a perfect dog for
anyone!
Some flowers bloom wherever they're planted. This girl is SOLID, a wonderful pet
proven
to be a BEST Friend!!
Daisy is one of them. ❤️ She is an easy, sweet, perfect dog!
Sweet, calm, laid-back, and unbelievably grateful, Daisy has been through more than any dog ever should. Yet somehow, she still greets the world with a wagging tail and a heart full of love.
Read more about Daisy Good Dog
Daisy's story began on Cleveland Avenue, where she was abandoned and left to fend for herself. Kind-hearted people rescued her and hoped her owner might come looking, so she was taken to Fulton County Animal Services. No one ever came.
She was then welcomed into a foster home where life was finally looking up...until her foster had to move. Heartbreakingly, Daisy ended up back at Fulton County. This time, she was housed with several other dogs, where she was attacked, leaving her bitten, bruised, and suffering. SHE IS ALL WELL NOW!
Thankfully, the very person who had originally rescued Daisy had been keeping an eye on her. When they discovered what had happened, they rushed to save her once again. Now, A Welcome Home Animal Rescue has welcomed Daisy into the program, and she's finally safe.
Why Everyone Loves Daisy
❤️ Sweet, gentle, and incredibly affectionate
Gets along with dogs
Cat friendly
Loves children!!!!
Friendly with everyone she meets!
️ Calm, easygoing, and well-mannered
Smart and eager to please
So grateful for every act of kindness
After everything she's endured, Daisy hasn't become bitter. She simply wants someone to love...and she'll spend the rest of her life showing you just how thankful she is.
She's fully vetted, healthy, and ready to leave her difficult past behind forever.
A home with a fenced yard would be wonderful, but what Daisy truly wants is a family who will love her as much as she'll love them.
Don't let this Daisy wilt waiting for her forever family.

Read more about Luna
The worse happened ....as she is now in DeKalb County. uuug. LUNA
, a super sweet, pretty hound/pit bull mix, a gentle girl (easy TO keep) was a special project of our rescue. We worked hard over three months to help the elderly man and his family find a new place for Luna.
We had no luck.
THEN A surprise to THE RESCUE that the family GAVE up and now she is in DeKalb County AS OF SEPTEMPER 28 ...AND NOT DOING WELL. AT RISK OF euthanasia, if a home cannot be found! She has become stressed, EVEN THROUGH SO SWEET WHEN WE SAW HER. We MEET her yesterday (Oct. 18) and she was as sweet and gentle as ever. But VERY WEARY and wants out.
Needs a DeKalb Foster or Forever Home. Sweet dog, always a family dog,
She is gentle, sweet, gentle, always a sweet pensive "want to please" look on her sweet face, bonds quickly, takes treats gently, and not a dog to jump on you. She lived with older dog. Likes to Ride int the car and BONED to her sweet older owner who has to give her up.
The elderly owner in his eighties owner (grandfather with family in home) had been looking for months, contacting all rescues and shelters, for a new home for Luna because there is not room, and saddened but finally took her DeKalb AS, where Luna will eventually be euthanized.
POSITIVE: She is a great with small kids. She is housetrained, walks well on a leash, listens, looks lovingly in your eyes, (Rescue saw that in person). She is Not large at 50 pounds, so easy to KEEP! Timid and sweet, gentle.
❤️ About Luna
Approximately 50 pounds
VERY well housetrained
Smart and sweet - Learns tricks quickly - BONDS quickly!!
Lives peacefully with another older dog
Walked several times a day
Friendly and deserving of a chance
On Heartworm Prevention/Heartworm negative/Flea meds/all vaccines current
Looking for a foster, foster-to-adopt, or permanent home
Luna isn't a problem dog. She's simply a victim of circumstances. With so many homeless dogs needing help, it's easy for wonderful dogs like Luna to be overlooked—but she deserves the opportunity to have a future. Always a trial basis!

Adopting a dog in Madison
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
