2. Aiden

Adult · Male · White German Shepherd / Mixed (long coat) · 20 mi from Evanston

BIO
Hello! My name is Aiden. I am currently being treated for heartworm. My heartworm treatment will be completed, and I can go home with my family the middle of December 2026. I am housetrained. I am not crate trained. I have been fine when left unsupervised. When meeting strangers I go right up to them without barking and enjoy getting pet. I have been friendly to everyone I meet.I have met other dogs; however, I prefer female dogs about the same size as me. I really love to play with the female dog here at my foster home. I have not met any cats, so I do not know how I feel about them. I don’t really care about toys. I like going for car rides. I walk well on a leash with no reactivity. I know a few commands, but maybe you could teach me more. I love being brushed. Look how handsome I am.I would like to find a home with someone active. Someone who likes hiking and going on adventures. We could go to some obedience classes where I could learn lots of things. I can be an only dog. It would be nice to find a friend and have some play dates to help keep up my social skills since I do enjoy running around and playing. Do you know anyone with a female dog who would like to play with me?

BIO
Hello! My name is Dolly. I will be ready for adoption December 2026, when my heartworm treatment is complete. I am house trained and crate trained. Since I am still so young it is best to keep me on a schedule and crate me when you cannot supervise me. When visitors come to the house, I am calm and well behaved. I do not bark at them. I am slow to warm up to strangers, but I am sweet and affectionate with my family. I have met dogs of different sizes and ages. I have done very well with them. I like to play and run around with other dogs that are my size. I saw a cat and I did not like it. I like playing with stuffed dog toys and chew toys. I like bringing them into my crate along with anything else I find. I know how to play fetch and tug. I walk well on a leash. I am not reactive. I am learning commands. I behave well at the vets and the groomer said I was a good girl. I like staying clean anyway.I would thrive in a household with a lot of love and attention; a schedule suits me best. A resident canine companion about my size to play and run around with. An appropriate fence height is an absolute must; I am very athletic. I would like lots of walks, playtime outside and fun activities. Maybe some training classes, nose work or agility. If you’re looking for a very happy, affectionate girl, here I am.

Meet our soon to be brave hearted girl Hana. This little peanut came to us very fearful from an unknown realm. A mighty small stray that survived long enough by her own sheer will. Hana is a timid, shy yet curious pup. She is currently living with a trainer and learning that the world has some magnificent opportunities to offer. Hana is enjoying her new experiences and has a list of new favorite to dos. Hana loves car rides, long walks, play time with doggy pals and her warm cozy blankets. She feels safest curled up in a warm burrito waiting for her meals. Sure we push her to try new things and slowly she is discovering that life isnt so scary.

Hana needs a home with patience, preferably a fenced yard, a willing person that will continue working with her needs as they develop and a dog or two would be great. This lady even does well with cats! Hana is learning obedience, she is crate trained and she walks nicely on a leash as well. For a young dog trying her best the possibilities are endless. Time is the most important factor in determining the timeframe for Hanas courage. As long as she is loved and gently pushed to try new things, she will blossom into an amazing familial addition.

21. Stanley

Young (1 year 5 months) · Male · Shepherd / Husky / Mixed (short coat) · 7 mi from Evanston

Charming, sweet, silly, engaging, and exceptionally loyal are just a few words to describe Stanley, a wonderful pup searching for his forever family. His soulful, expressive eyes suggest a pup wise beyond his years and draw you in, and his observant, perceptive, loyal, and loving demeanor wins over all who meet him; he'll be a phenomenal companion for a lucky home. Stanley was rescued from an overburdened animal control facility in Kentucky with his five littermates when they were just three months old. He is currently 9 months old and is a middleweight champ at 55 pounds. DNA test revealed that 3/4 of his lineage is close to being equally divided among three breeds: German Shepherd, Husky, and Bluetick Coonhound, with percentages equaling around 25% of each breed. The remaining 25% of his DNA is made up of smaller percentages (10% or less) of Akita, American Staffordshire Terrier, Collie, Malamute, and Chow. Stanley was adopted by a loving family earlier this year; however, he has recently been returned to Pal's Place for placement with another family. Stan can sometimes be a little reserved and cautiously curious when meeting some new people coming into his home (generally larger men with deeper voices or people with hats/beards, etc). Being the perceptive, sensitive, intelligent fella he is, if he is unsure of someone when he first meets them, he likes to take several minutes to assess his new friends. His assessment process generally involves a bit of barking and skittering around. If we ignore Stanley and his initial chatter. He settles down after a few minutes, gathers some courage to get in closer for a few sniffs of the visitor, and goes back to being the big ol' lovebug he usually is. He's not wary of everyone coming into the home, and we think that with a little more confidence-building and exposure, he'll be confident, calm, and comfortable with every visitor. The household he was living in over the past few months was bustling, with lots of children and new people coming and going all the time. When Stanley reacted with anxious, nervous barking at certain visitors, he sometimes frightened the resident children, visiting children, and some visiting adults, who were startled by his loud bark. Unfortunately, the decision was made to return Stanley to the rescue to prevent further tensions with guests.

Read more about Stanley

Stanley has been back with us for a short time, but his fosters have started building his confidence with new people, and he has already made great progress. His ideal guardians are calm, confident, patient, and dog-experienced or dog-savvy who can work with Stanley to help him nurture and develop a little more self-confidence. He's an exceptionally loyal, devoted, and amenable dog to those he loves and trusts, and he wants so badly to please that we are confident that, with just a little more time, exposure, support, and understanding, he will blossom into the more confident dog we know he wants to be! He's spent most of his life with at least one other dog and is sharing his foster home with several others. Stanley is much more confident overall when other dogs are around, and we think a home with at least one other confident, balanced dog to show him the ropes would be fantastic, but not necessarily a deal breaker in his search for a forever home. As a mix of hunting, herding, and working breeds, Stanley also needs a home committed to exercising him properly and giving him an outlet for his energy and enthusiasm. He'd make a great hiking or running companion and a great candidate for many dog sports, like tracking, nosework, or earth dog trials. Training for these sports, for fun or competitively, would be a great way to grow his confidence and bond with new guardians. He's active, energetic, and athletic, and loves nothing more than a good game of fetch, but he's also one who knows how to settle down and does not need constant entertainment or engagement throughout the day. He's incredibly intelligent and wickedly c

23. Chi-Chi

Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 16 mi from Evanston

Chi-Chi was a local stray saved after being placed on the top of a dumpster with no way to get down - how cruel! When he arrived, he weighed only 4.5lbs and he looked it!

Since being in his foster home with good, nutritious food, receiving appropriate vetting exam, he has double his weight and the transformation is heartwarming and makes every rescuer smile with happy tears! (see photos for his glow-up)!!!!!

He is estimated to be 3-4 years old and weighs approximately 9-10lbs and is still filling out to a healthy weight!

Foster Home Update:

Read more about Chi-Chi

He LOVES women and food (understandable!) is good with other dogs in the home (a Shepherd and another foster puppy) and doesn't care about the resident cat either! He is an 'atypical Chi' that gets comfy and accepts adults in the home and those he is familiar with that do not live with him when allowed to warm up on his terms. He does like to be the apple of your eye and will tell the other pets in the home "mine, mine, mine - go away". He is crate trained too! Kids should be older (no toddlers) and Chihuahua personality 'savvy'!

We recommend training for all our dogs!

Chi-chi’s adoption donation has been reduced to $300 due to a generous donor.

**Breed or size (once fully grown) is a 'best guess' and is not guaranteed since they arrived into rescue without either parent.

24. Bingo

Young · Female · Terrier / Mixed · 16 mi from Evanston

There is a rescue that has a momma and Bingo is her name-o!
B-I-N-G-O. (Sing it with us)! This beautiful momma arrived with a belly full of babies and a hope to give them the best life.

She has a few scars, including and injury that caused her to lose an eye, but her heart is full of love and a little zest for fun.

Bingo gave birth to a surprisingly big litter of the most precious little faces and has done a great job taking care of them. Now it’s time for her to find her fur-ever family.

Read more about Bingo

She is approximately 3 years old and weighs right near 25lbs and is a nice medium sized terrier mix. She is very shy, though her body language tells a very different story. She needs a home with patience that will allow her to adjust at her own pace. Once she gets to know you, the happiness will shine through as she wags not only her tail but her entire little body.

She has been around children, but prefers to not interact. She is unbothered by the cat and does fine with other dogs. Another dog in her potential forever home will also allow her to feel more relaxed and gain confidence.

This little lady just wants a peaceful place to call her own and promises she is worth it!
She will do well with formal training.

We recommend training for all our dogs!

25. Zuri

Young (6 months) · Female · Bernese Mountain Dog / Mixed · 16 mi from Evanston

Meet Zuri - A Gentle Bernese Looking for a Patient Home

Zuri arrived to us a two months back and has been slowly starting to improve, and is finally ready for an adopter who is not looking for an already perfect dog. She will need patience, love, and time to become the amazing girl she is intended to be. Someone with previous under socialized dog experience would be ideal for her.

BEFORE APPLYING PLEASE BE AWARE THAT SHE WILL NEED ANOTHER DOG IN THE HOME, A FENCED YARD, AND IF THERE ARE ANY CHILDREN IN THE HOME THEY NEED TO BE OLDER AND DOG SAVVY.

Foster home update:

Read more about Zuri

Zuri is a beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog with a sweet, sensitive soul who is looking for an understanding family willing to help her continue building confidence. While she can be shy when faced with new people, places, and noises, once she feels safe she shows her affectionate, playful side and is highly motivated by food, treats, and mealtime.

One of Zuri's best qualities is her gentle nature. She is wonderful with older, respectful children who give her the space she needs. She does well with cats, and is exceptionally quiet.

In the yard, Zuri enjoys playful zoomies, chasing a ball, and exploring her surroundings. She is beginning to form bonds with other dogs and has recently started learning by watching and copying positive canine behaviors. It's rewarding to see her confidence grow a little more each day.

Zuri is crate trained and rides calmly in the car once she's loaded up. She appreciates clear, gentle guidance and currently responds well to being directed where she needs to go, whether that's outside or into her crate.

Like many dogs who have not had consistent training, Zuri will need continued work in several areas. She is not yet fully house-trained and may have accidents, particularly in her bedding. She is also a curious collector of household items and has developed a habit of picking up belongings and chewing shoes if given the opportunity. Prospective adopters should be prepared to manage her environment and continue teaching appropriate chew habits.

Zuri's confidence-building journey is still ongoing. She can be skittish around unfamiliar situations, does not yet walk well on a leash, and may need encouragement to get into the car. She also has some less glamorous dog habits, including rolling in and occasionally eating animal droppings, which her future family should be aware of.

The ideal home for Zuri is one that understands that not every dog arrives as a finished product. She will thrive with patient adopters who can provide structure, positive reinforcement, and time to adjust. In return, they'll gain a loving, quiet companion whose sweet personality shines brighter as her confidence grows.

If you're willing to celebrate small victories, laugh at a few goofy moments, and help a gentle Bernese discover that the world isn't so scary, Zuri may be the perfect addition to your family.

If you feel you have the time, patience and love to work with Zuri apply today!

27. Bear Claw

Adult · Male · Shepherd / Collie / Mixed · 16 mi from Evanston

Bear Claw is approximately 3 years old and weighs between 60-70lbs. Our rescue partners found him dumped in a wooded area. He's a little shy, but very sweet and loves kids! A home with a fenced yard is preferred to allow him to enjoy his outside time!

Foster Home Update:

Bear Claw is a playful yet calm fellow. He is most happy playing with other dogs and learning from them so his new home must have another dog in order to help him transition.

Read more about Bear Claw

He settled in slowly and is housebroken. While he loves to play with other dogs he is also content to have some solo playtime with toys. He'll hang out in the yard alone or with a companion. Bear Claw is not a fan of the car, but looks forward to his walks and is gentle on leash. He is very friendly, and is quickly becoming a neighborhood favorite greeting every person and dog along the way.

He is crate trained but can be trusted in the home overnight, or when his foster is out.

He'll make a great family dog!

28. Turnip

Young · Male · Boston Terrier / Mixed · 24 mi from Evanston

Turnip’s story is one of the most incredible transformations we’ve seen.Turnip came into rescue alongside Rhubarb after suffering from one of the worst cases of skin issues and neglect we had seen in a very long time. He was uncomfortable, neglected, and desperately needed help. Thanks to the incredible generosity and support of our rescue community, Turnip received the medical care, love, and attention he needed—and the transformation has been AMAZING. Now that Turnip is feeling so much better, he’s ready for the next chapter of his life: finding the family who will show him what being loved forever really means.Turnip is an affectionate, cuddly, medium-to-high-energy boy who LOVES his people.

Read more about Turnip

He is definitely a Velcro dog and wants to be wherever his humans are. If you move to another room, there’s a good chance Turnip will be right behind you—or letting you know that he would very much like to come along! He loves following his people around, playing with toys, and having fun with his favorite canine friends.Turnip is still working on his potty training, puppy manners, and leash skills, but he is making progress. He is also learning that boundaries are a good thing, and his future family will need to be willing to continue that work with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement.Turnip is good with children, but he is dog selective. New dogs need to be introduced slowly and carefully, with supervision. Turnip tends to be a dominant personality and can bully more submissive dogs, so he does best with dogs who are confident and comfortable setting appropriate boundaries with him. Because of this, another dog in his forever home would need to be a good match, and introductions are a very important part of finding that fit.And one thing we want to be very honest about: Turnip needs an adopter who is comfortable setting boundaries and calmly correcting unwanted behaviors. He is a wonderful dog, and is still learning how to be the best version of himself. He needs someone who will lovingly show him what is expected while also giving him the time and consistency to learn.Turnip would thrive with an active family who enjoys getting outside and keeping their dog busy. A fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus, especially for a boy with his energy level, but an active family who enjoys walks and adventures could also be a great fit. Most importantly, Turnip needs someone who will see the dog he is today—not the neglected dog who first arrived at rescue—and give him the chance to continue becoming the happy, healthy, loved dog he was always meant to be. He has already overcome so much. Now he just needs his person. If you're looking for a goofy, affectionate, energetic Velcro dog who will happily follow you from room to room, play with his toys, cuddle up with his people, and keep you laughing along the way, Turnip may be your guy. He isn’t perfect—and he doesn't need to be. He just needs the right person willing to love him, guide him, set boundaries, and give him the forever he has waited so patiently for. Moe is generally good-natured and likes to stay close to his people—he enjoys being part of whatever’s going on.Moe loves toys and snuggles and has an active, playful side that will thrive with an engaged family. He would do best in an active home that can provide structure, exercise, and continued training. Why adopt an adult dog in Evanston

An adult dog's personality is fully formed, so the rescue can tell you how they are with people, other pets and busy households. Many have lived in foster homes and are already house-trained.

Grown dogs need less supervision than puppies and often know the basics, like sitting and walking on a leash, which suits people who work or have young children.
