2. Aiden

Adult · Male · White German Shepherd / Mixed (long coat) · 24 mi from Waukegan

BIO
Hello! My name is Aiden. I am currently being treated for heartworm. My heartworm treatment will be completed, and I can go home with my family the middle of December 2026. I am housetrained. I am not crate trained. I have been fine when left unsupervised. When meeting strangers I go right up to them without barking and enjoy getting pet. I have been friendly to everyone I meet.I have met other dogs; however, I prefer female dogs about the same size as me. I really love to play with the female dog here at my foster home. I have not met any cats, so I do not know how I feel about them. I don’t really care about toys. I like going for car rides. I walk well on a leash with no reactivity. I know a few commands, but maybe you could teach me more. I love being brushed. Look how handsome I am.I would like to find a home with someone active. Someone who likes hiking and going on adventures. We could go to some obedience classes where I could learn lots of things. I can be an only dog. It would be nice to find a friend and have some play dates to help keep up my social skills since I do enjoy running around and playing. Do you know anyone with a female dog who would like to play with me?

BIO
Hello! My name is Dolly. I will be ready for adoption December 2026, when my heartworm treatment is complete. I am house trained and crate trained. Since I am still so young it is best to keep me on a schedule and crate me when you cannot supervise me. When visitors come to the house, I am calm and well behaved. I do not bark at them. I am slow to warm up to strangers, but I am sweet and affectionate with my family. I have met dogs of different sizes and ages. I have done very well with them. I like to play and run around with other dogs that are my size. I saw a cat and I did not like it. I like playing with stuffed dog toys and chew toys. I like bringing them into my crate along with anything else I find. I know how to play fetch and tug. I walk well on a leash. I am not reactive. I am learning commands. I behave well at the vets and the groomer said I was a good girl. I like staying clean anyway.I would thrive in a household with a lot of love and attention; a schedule suits me best. A resident canine companion about my size to play and run around with. An appropriate fence height is an absolute must; I am very athletic. I would like lots of walks, playtime outside and fun activities. Maybe some training classes, nose work or agility. If you’re looking for a very happy, affectionate girl, here I am.

Moe is a young Boxer mix with a big personality and a loving heart. He’s potty trained, crate trained, listens well, and does great with other dogs. Moe is generally good-natured and likes to stay close to his people—he enjoys being part of whatever’s going on.

Moe loves toys and snuggles and has an active, playful side that will thrive with an engaged family. He would do best in an active home that can provide structure, exercise, and continued training. Because Moe can get mouthy during play, he should not be placed in a home with small children.

Moe will need an experienced dog owner. While he shows no signs of aggression in daily life, he has reacted with little warning when medications are applied to his ears or skin during treatment for infections. Outside of these situations, he is affectionate and stable. His future family should be comfortable working with a veterinarian and using management strategies for medical care.

One thing to note—Moe is curious and a known countertop surfer! Food should be kept out of reach, as he won’t hesitate to help himself if given the chance.

Moe is looking for a knowledgeable, active home that understands his needs and will love him for the fun, loyal companion he is. With the right fit, Moe will be a devoted sidekick ready for adventure, play, and plenty of cuddle time.

23. Turnip

Young · Male · Boston Terrier / Mixed · 11 mi from Waukegan

Turnip’s story is one of the most incredible transformations we’ve seen.Turnip came into rescue alongside Rhubarb after suffering from one of the worst cases of skin issues and neglect we had seen in a very long time. He was uncomfortable, neglected, and desperately needed help. Thanks to the incredible generosity and support of our rescue community, Turnip received the medical care, love, and attention he needed—and the transformation has been AMAZING. Now that Turnip is feeling so much better, he’s ready for the next chapter of his life: finding the family who will show him what being loved forever really means.Turnip is an affectionate, cuddly, medium-to-high-energy boy who LOVES his people.

Read more about Turnip

He is definitely a Velcro dog and wants to be wherever his humans are. If you move to another room, there’s a good chance Turnip will be right behind you—or letting you know that he would very much like to come along! He loves following his people around, playing with toys, and having fun with his favorite canine friends.Turnip is still working on his potty training, puppy manners, and leash skills, but he is making progress. He is also learning that boundaries are a good thing, and his future family will need to be willing to continue that work with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement.Turnip is good with children, but he is dog selective. New dogs need to be introduced slowly and carefully, with supervision. Turnip tends to be a dominant personality and can bully more submissive dogs, so he does best with dogs who are confident and comfortable setting appropriate boundaries with him. Because of this, another dog in his forever home would need to be a good match, and introductions are a very important part of finding that fit.And one thing we want to be very honest about: Turnip needs an adopter who is comfortable setting boundaries and calmly correcting unwanted behaviors. He is a wonderful dog, and is still learning how to be the best version of himself. He needs someone who will lovingly show him what is expected while also giving him the time and consistency to learn.Turnip would thrive with an active family who enjoys getting outside and keeping their dog busy. A fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus, especially for a boy with his energy level, but an active family who enjoys walks and adventures could also be a great fit. Most importantly, Turnip needs someone who will see the dog he is today—not the neglected dog who first arrived at rescue—and give him the chance to continue becoming the happy, healthy, loved dog he was always meant to be. He has already overcome so much. Now he just needs his person. If you're looking for a goofy, affectionate, energetic Velcro dog who will happily follow you from room to room, play with his toys, cuddle up with his people, and keep you laughing along the way, Turnip may be your guy. He isn’t perfect—and he doesn't need to be. He just needs the right person willing to love him, guide him, set boundaries, and give him the forever he has waited so patiently for. 24. Moe

Young · Male · Boxer / Mixed · 11 mi from Waukegan

Moe is a young Boxer mix with a big personality and a loving heart. He’s potty trained, crate trained, listens well, and does great with other dogs. Moe is generally good-natured and likes to stay close to his people—he enjoys being part of whatever’s going on.Moe loves toys and snuggles and has an active, playful side that will thrive with an engaged family. He would do best in an active home that can provide structure, exercise, and continued training. Because Moe can get mouthy during play, he should not be placed in a home with small children.Moe will need an experienced dog owner.

Food should be kept out of reach, as he won’t hesitate to help himself if given the chance.Moe is looking for a knowledgeable, active home that understands his needs and will love him for the fun, loyal companion he is. Jacks is an energetic two-year-old male rescue from Chicago Animal Control. He has completed training at Dog Style and in need of a foster or adoptive home. Jacks is very athletic and loves to run, jump, and play fetch. He would be a great dog sport candidate. Jacks is very sweet and affectionate with his people. He is housebroken, crate trained, and knows basic commands. Jacks is a typical GSD that is protective of his home, but does well meeting new people with lots of treats and praise. 26. Tam

Adult · White German Shepherd (medium coat) · 24 mi from Waukegan

BIO
Hello! My name is Tam. I am 2 or 3 years old. I am house trained. I do not like to be crated. I do not need to be crated when you cannot supervise me. If you do leave me alone, I will sleep most of the time. I have other dogs here to keep me company. I am good with both men and women. I am not much of a snuggler, but I love to be pet. I’ll come over to you for attention. I will even roll over for belly rubs. In the daytime I will approach strangers slowly. At night if I don’t recognize a person, I will bark at them. I do very well with the other dogs in my foster home. They are females, different sizes. One dog is high energy, another not so much. I did not do so good with the cat. So, it is best if you do not have a cat. I like to destuff toys and pull all the toys out of the toy box. I guard my toys and food from the other dogs so foster mom doesn't leave anything laying around and is proactive with trying to work on this issue. I ignore loud noises like thunderstorms and sirens. I am nervous about getting in a car, but Foster Mom and I are working on this. I love my daily walks, and I am pretty much a dream walking companion as I am completely nonreactive on leash even to the point of ignoring squirrels.I would like to find a home with someone who is home more often than not. I do like running around & playing with one of the dogs here at my foster home. A home with someone that has patience and can continue working with me to build my confidence. Are you looking for a Velcro dog, I want to be one.

28. Sami

Adult · Female · White German Shepherd / Mixed (short coat) · 24 mi from Waukegan

BIO
Hello! My name is Sami. I am house trained and crate trained. It is best to crate me when you cannot supervise me. Although I have been left alone with the other dogs in my foster home and I was a good girl. When strangers come to the house, I will announce their presence and go right up to them wagging my tail. Sometimes I lay down and roll over for a belly rub. I love to be petted and I love to snuggle.I live with a smaller dog and a larger dog with no problems. I have also met smaller dogs out on our walks with no problems. I just want to play all the time. I did not do so good when I met a cat so no cats for me. I love my squeaky ball and balls of any kind. I like to play tug-o-war. I destuff stuffies and pull the squeaker out and then I play with the unstuffy. I will toss it in the air and play with it. I do not know how to play fetch. I am sure I could learn. I like going for rides in the car. I pull on the leash when I see people or other dogs. We are working on that. I just want to go make friends. I know some commands and I am learning manners.I would like to find a home that already has another canine companion, I really like to play. I enjoy laying in the sun, a fenced backyard would be great. I could be an only dog if you are home more often than not. I would really like to go to obedience classes or even agility would suit me fine. You know what they say great things come in little packages. Don’t I sound like fun?

Why adopt an adult dog in Waukegan

An adult dog's personality is fully formed, so the rescue can tell you how they are with people, other pets and busy households. Many have lived in foster homes and are already house-trained.

Grown dogs need less supervision than puppies and often know the basics, like sitting and walking on a leash, which suits people who work or have young children.
