4. Duke
Adult (2 years 6 months) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Doberman Pinscher / Mixed (short coat) · 18 mi from Corinth

Duke is a wonderful companion dog who has been bounced around various homes in his young life. Because of his past, he can be cautious when meeting new people; however, if you sit quietly, he'll soon be over to put his head in your lap with eyes hopeful and asking, "Will you be my friend?"
A stable household without chaos or drama is what Duke desires. In foster care, he lives happily with his work from home foster parents and their friendly big dog.
Duke is an excellent office dog and he understands that the doggy door to the backyard is used to go outside to potty. He crates well overnight. He is not a picky eater. He appreciates a good game of stuffed animal fetch or chasing his foster brother around the yard before returning to his office bed for a nap.
He enjoys a nice sniff walk and hasn't ever shown signs of reactivity to other dogs, cats, or people while out on his leash. He's not a puller and can rate his speed to yours.
When he is unsure of a new situation or new people, he likes to hang in the background before he's ready to meet and greet. He is not aggressive, just a bit shy. Having a confident foster sibling has worked wonders for Duke in such situations. He gains confidence readily from observing how an extrovert just saunters up to anyone.
Duke likes children just fine if they are mature, easy-going, and don't rush him. At this stage of his confidence-building, a home with children older than ten years of age is recommended.
Duke is crate-trained, housebroken, and has basic obedience skills. His bark-o-meter is low, reserved for warning his family that strangers are on the property. Once told to desist, he does.
If you allow it, he'd love to be your lap dog or snuggle buddy on the couch during television time.
If you're home more than gone, and you have a nice, playful dog in need of a sibling, Duke may be the one for you!

5. Koko
Adult (2 years) · Male · Poodle (unknown type) / Mixed (long coat) · 18 mi from Corinth

Grrrr….. wait…. no……. ummm…. How did my foster mom say I’m suppose to say hello? Grr..hello, no….. Hi! My name is KoKo and I’m so excited to meet you. I am a 12.5 pound miniature poodle. My foster momma says I’m one of the smartest dogs she’s ever met, but I need to work on my manners. I don’t have a clue what she’s talking about. Isn’t growling a proper way to let someone know you like them and want to meet them? Back at the end of July my whole world got turned upside down. My beloved mom and dad of 2 years could no longer care for me. Let me tell you something, they loved me so much and according to my foster mom spoiled me a little too much because she says I have some naughty behaviors. Back to that terrible day. I was so scared and confused I lashed out to the shelter staff by growling and trying to bite them. I truly meant no harm. I was just scared and had learned if I growl and snap things I don’t like happening stop. Thankfully the shelter director knew of foster mom and knew she would take a chance on me and take me home to foster. The day she picked me up was one of the best days of my life. While I’m still living with other dogs and cats her home is quiet and the best part is she lets me sleep in the bed with her, one of my most favorite activities. I was on my best behavior for about a week, before I let the first growl slip. I truly meant no harm. I was just tired and didn’t want to be moved over on the bed. My new momma told me that was unacceptable behavior and we had to practice being moved without biting. My foster momma took me to meet with a dog trainer and we have lots of things we are working on. According to the trainer I’m a pushy dog who lacks confidence and have learner growling gets me my way. I disagree, but whatever. We still apparently have to work on my growling. If you’ve got an empty lap, patience, and a willingness to continue on with my training fill out an application to me you.

KoKo is house trained and crate trained, but can be reactive in his crate. He gets along great with both cats and dogs and would like flourish in a home with a dog his size to play with. He enjoys walking on a leash and napping the day away on the couch. Because he does growl and snap he needs a home with kids over the age of 12. One of the conditions of his adoption is going to be, being willing to enroll him in training classes with a dog trainer so his forever family can continue working with him on his growling. He will also require daily brushing and grooming visits every 6-8 weeks to keep his hair from matting.

6. Juicy
Senior (14 years 2 months) · Female · Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 18 mi from Corinth

Juicy wants you to know that age is just a number. At 14 years of age she has unfortunately found herself in need of finding a forever home. While her eyes and ears are starting to fail her, she’s still able to get around quite well. Thus far she seems to enjoy car rides, slow walks where she can sniff around, nice fluffy beds, and a quiet place on your furniture to relax. Juicy doesn’t seem to mind other dogs or cats. With her vision and hearing failing she does startle easily and will snap at you with sudden movements so a home with older children would be best. We provide you giving a senior dog a home is very rewarding.

From his Foster Mom: Dezi is a sweet, loving dog that gets along with other dogs as long as he's not sitting on your lap or near you when another dog comes near.

If that happens, he becomes very protective. He's been used to being the one and only and sharing his owner is not part of his DNA at this time. Meet SNOWBALL, a fluffy little poodle mix boy looking for a home. He's an energetic young goofball. Snowball is 1 year old and we're told he was purchased as a Maltipoo. He's fully grown, currently 17 pounds but could stand to add a pound or two. He's energetic, playful and good natured. He needs a little work on his manners, nothing major, mostly he's just a little too enthusiastic. Snowball really needs the companionship of another playful dog. He's not ready for lapdog life, this boy wants to have FUN!! Snowball's scruffy coat will require regular grooming, his adopter should be prepared for that expense. His coat is really short right now, we aren't sure if he was shaved down before he was surrendered to a shelter. If you'd like to meet Snowball, please fill out a dog adoption application at

We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Snowball at our weekly adoption event, Saturday 11:30am-1:30pm at PetSmart Eastgate.

Adorable MALLOY is a lively little gentleman looking for a home. He's a sweet 17 pound chiweenie (dachshund/chihuahua)-type mixed breed boy who was estimated to be 9 years but you might be tempted to question that estimate if you see this guy chase toys. Malloy has a unique looking coat with a dapple/merle type pattern. That plus that blue eye makes us suspect there is some dapple/red merle dachshund in his family tree. Malloy is sweet and friendly, fine with other dogs and uninterested in cats. He's not ready to be considered an old man yet, he definitely acts like a middle-aged guy. In addition to standard vetting, Malloy just had a dental cleaning to make sure his oral health is A-OK. Malloy was found as a stray and was taken in by someone whose resident dogs were attacking him so he ended up on a chain outdoors, no life for a sweet little guy. Malloy's manners suggest he probably had a loving home at some point in his life. His coat was in rough shape thanks to fleas but that issue has been addressed and his hair is growing back nicely. Now all he needs is a place to call home. If you'd like to meet Malloy, please fill out a dog adoption application at
dreamhouserescue.org.
We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Malloy at our weekly adoption event, Saturday 11:30am-1:30pm at PetSmart Eastgate.

Our fully vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed and current on flea and tick and heartworm prevention.

Any deception found during the application process will be grounds for denial. Requirements: We understand how important your time is and how emotional adding a new pet to the family can be. We are an all volunteer rescue with no paid staff, so we are going to do our best to help you know from the get go if your home environment will be a harmonious fit for what we are looking for in our new adoptive parents. Our checks are extensive, so we ask that you maintain an honest dialogue with us throughout the application. While we believe that any home can become a great one with education, we can not trust applicants that start off on the wrong foot with any untruths during the application process. Your current pets need to be fixed. Unless there is a medical issue or compelling reason that your current pets aren't fixed, we will need to pass on your application. Even though our pets are fixed, elevated levels of hormones in existing pets can cause a greater chanc

Adopting a dog in Corinth
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
