Read more about Cookie
Cookie is a sweet, friendly girl with a truly lovable personality, a beautiful tri-colored coat, a compact little body, and a smile for miles. She has a moderate energy level and enjoys going for walks, exploring all the good smells, and riding in the car, but she is just as happy to settle in and relax at home by your side. She walks nicely on leash and loves spending time with her people. Cookie is housebroken, affectionate, and generally easygoing, with a few endearing quirks like her happy grunts, the most endearing piggy snorts, and silly noises when she gets excited. She greets new people with a wagging tail, warmed up quickly to a child she met, and has been friendly with everyone she has encountered. She is also scheduled to have surgery for an elongated soft palate resection so she can breathe more comfortably and live her very best life ever. She would thrive in a home that can give her plenty of attention, regular walks, and lots of love — plus a cozy spot on the furniture where she can show off that amazing smile.

Meet Velma! Medical
Meet Velma!
This low-riding potato — and yes, she truly is one, as she can stand to lose a few pounds — came to us from our friends at Boston Animal Control after being found as a stray. She is currently in treatment for heartworm disease, so she is not quite ready for adoption just yet. But she is too special not to share with the world now.

If you’re looking for a lovable little sidekick with snuggle energy, this sweet girl is your match. She is friendly, snuggly, mellow, and full of charm — the kind of dog who wants to be wherever her person is, preferably pressed right up against them like a tiny couch ornament.
She loves the simple things in life: cozy naps, gentle walks, a little park time, and plenty of cuddle time. She’s calm in the car, easy on leash, and has a wonderfully easygoing personality. At home, she’s happiest curled up close, soaking up love and keeping you company like the best little shadow around.
Her favorite things include her stuffed bear, marrow bones, crinkly toys, and tasty treats like cheese. She’s playful in the cutest way with happy little play bows, and her adorable grunts and snoring make her even more lovable — truly a whole personality in one tiny potato body

Meet Darling!
Read more about Darling
Darling truly lives up to her name. She came to us from our friends @bostonanimalcontrol after being found as a severely emaciated stray. When she first arrived, it was clear she had been through so much—she was broken, frightened, and badly mistreated. She couldn’t make eye contact, walk down the stairs, or even wag her tail. But within just one day, her foster family began to see something beautiful happening: a little light starting to come back
.
. And now? Darling is SO HAPPY. Her whole body wiggles with excitement, she gives endless kisses, and she’s discovering that the world can actually be a wonderful place.
She’s still learning how to “dog” but she gains confidence every day. She loves to frolic, prance, play, and explore, but she also settles beautifully and is perfectly content curled up in her person’s lap while they work or read. She’s a true cuddle bug who wants to be wherever her people are—and yes, she absolutely needs to sleep in your bed.
Darling is learning about toys and has recently discovered tug, chasing balls, and the joys of chewing on a good pig ear. She walks nicely on leash and she would LOVE a fenced yard where she can zoom and prance to her heart’s content. She’s also been good with cats!
She is still working hard on house training, so her new family will need to continue helping her learn. Most importantly, Darling needs someone who understands her journey and will continue showing her that she is safe, loved, and never needs to be afraid again.
And perhaps the best thing about Darling? After everything she’s been through, she chose love. She wakes up every morning ready to wiggle her entire body, shower her person with kisses, and celebrate another day of being safe. Her foster says her morning routine brings endless joy—and we can absolutely see why.
Darling is ready for a family who will give her a safe home, a yard to frolic in, a bed to sleep in, and a whole lot of love. This sweet girl has so much happiness left to discover.

Senior (11 years 1 month) · Male · Pit Bull Terrier (short coat) · 10 mi from Ayer

Meet Jackson!
Jackson is a sweet, snuggly gentleman who is happiest when he’s close to his people. He’s an easygoing guy who loves following his humans around, exploring the house, and keeping tabs on whatever is going on. If you’re sitting down, there’s a good chance Jackson would like to be right there with you—preferably receiving plenty of pets and scratches!
Read more about Jackson
His energy level is moderate, and he enjoys getting outside for walks and sniffing around. He walks nicely in his harness. He’s also a wonderful car companion and settles happily in the backseat.
Jackson isn’t particularly interested in toys, but he has found something he considers much more important: attention from his people. He loves being petted and will make it very clear that he is always available for another round of scratches. He’s not much of a barker.
At home, Jackson is happiest with his people around. He does get a little sad when left alone and may cry because, frankly, he would much rather be included in whatever you’re doing.
Jackson is also being evaluated for some “old man” medical issues, which our team is currently working through and sorting out. We’ll continue to learn more about what he needs to feel his absolute best, but none of that changes what we already know: this boy is a total sweetheart who deserves to be loved and spoiled.
If you’re looking for a gentle companion who will happily follow you around, snuggle up nearby, and remind you that there is always time for one more pet, Jackson is your guy.

5. Shirley Temple
Puppy (4 months 28 days) · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier (short coat) · 17 mi from Ayer

Meet Shirley Temple! This 5-month old incredibly social sweet treat came to us from local animal control after being found as a stray, and like everyone’s favorite mocktail, is sure to be a hit with her forever family!
Read more about Shirley Temple
Sweet Shirley is a star! Just a realllly good girl who has charmed every veterinary staff member she has encountered. They all say the same thing…”what a nice puppy!” Ms. Temple is an adorably pint-sized sweetheart. Her sweetness oozes from every cell of her being and she has been incredibly friendly with dogs, cats, and people in her foster home. This girl stands out and is a natural child entertainer with her bubbly personality and social nature. Our Shirley is not much for singing but will dance her way into your heart with her endearing quirks. If you dilly-dally outside, Shirley will sit down to patiently wait. Shirlz is happy to jump into the shower with her humans and loves to drink out of the bathtub faucet like a cat. A leaf dancing in the wind can mesmerize her for a good long while.
Her inky black coat is gorgeous (and matches everything!) and her wide and innocently bright eyes are meant for showing love. This kiddy cocktail would be the cherry on top for an active family looking for a great companion! Cheers!
Puppies are soooooo cute, and puppy breath is THE BEST! But puppies are a lot of work and take dedication, patience, love, training, and real commitment to turn them into amazing adults. And a reminder that while puppies are undeniably adorable, they also represent a long-term commitment. Medium sized dogs often live 12-16 years, and we’re looking for a family that’s excited to love, guide, and care for this puppy through every stage of life – from playful puppyhood to his senior years. A friendly reminder that our adoption requirements, including enrollment in an approved puppy training class prior to adoption, are posted on our website at: cropsandflopsrescue.org/adoptable-dogs/adoption-policies
Shirley Temple’s top 3 priorities:
1. A FUN family who is looking for a realllllllly good more mature and very social puppy!
2. A family willing to continue to work on house-training. Shirley has come SO FAR in her limited time with us and just needs some gentle consistency to cross the finish line!
3. A family who is looking for adventures for a young pup with energy to burn! This effervescent little lady loves to be part of the action.

6. Miss Foxy
Adult (2 years 11 months) · Female · Hound / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 17 mi from Ayer

Meet Miss Foxy! This 3-year old toffee-colored brindle beauty came to us from local animal control after being found as a stray, having recently had puppies. We are scratching our heads as to how this unapologetically awesome mama pup was wandering alone because she is freaking amazing! Mamas are known to be nurturers, and Miss Foxy is no exception. And while she was a perfect guest at animal control, she was starting to get antsy and was ready to leave kennel life behind.
Read more about Miss Foxy
Fast forward to now…we busted her out of the clink on Valentine’s Day, so she has been in our rescue at her foster home for months without a single inquiry and we can’t figure out why. She is uber dog-friendly (though says “no thanks” to cats), playful and communicative, incredibly loyal and loving, and gorgeous! Miss Foxy’s foster mom boards dogs in her home, so she has been exposed to dozens of canine friends, big and small in her time with us. She has been terrific with her frequently changing houseguests after a proper introduction, even sharing her toys and bones without incident. So, we can say with confidence…her dog friendliness is super solid! Foxy Brown is such a character, that even without another dog, can entertain herself for hours. She will throw her toys up in the air, then pounce on them. She loves to steal your seat if you get up to go to the bathroom. She lets you know when it is mealtime, or when she needs to go out, and has never had a single accident in the house. And she is THE BEST CO-PILOT we have ever met…patiently sitting and watching the world go by without even a peep. Seriously, you will constantly be checking to make sure she is still in the car.
Sweet Foxy was recently out on a walk, and her human had a medical event and collapsed. She woke up to Foxy standing over her with concern, even though there were bunnies and squirrels that were oh-so-interesting to her just moments before. She curls up like a cat by your head in bed and is a super affectionate dog who loves to be close. And Foxy is a foxy lady! She is absolutely stunning and pictures don’t do her justice! She has the softest amber eyes, and a velvety brindle coat that has undertones of caramel, toffee, and milk chocolate wrapped into one swirl of foxy goodness. With her lanky build, gangly legs, and unreal sense of smell, we assume this beauty is part hound. Plott hound? Treeing Tennesse Brindle? Your guess is as good as ours!
Foxy has been enjoying the safety and predictability of her foster home, and above all else, she loves to be part of the action. She loves, loves, loves raspberries and now is a constant pool of drool every time her human picks them. Though she will gladly accept blueberries, celery, or carrots, or, well, just about anything edible. She is quirky and goofy and fun-loving, and is eager to settle into her forever home, where she will make a welcome addition to a lucky adopter! Because of a lack of history, older or no kids would be best for this lovey dovey.
Miss Foxy’s top 3 priorities:
1. A family who wants a wonderful companion dog and is looking to add a valuable member of the family.
2. A family who is ready to show love and wants a pup to be part of their daily life, including car rides, walks, and sooo many snuggles.
3. A family ready to show Foxy that she will never be alone again!

7. BamBam
Senior (10 years 2 months) · Male · Bulldog · 17 mi from Ayer

Yabba Dabba Doo…Meet Bam Bam! This 10-years young itty-bitty (yet beefy!) bulldog came to us from local animal control after being picked up as a stray and he could seriously be a prehistoric couch potato! We are in love! His #1 priority? He needs his next stop to be his last stop after being failed by humans time and time (and time and time and time and time) again. This amazing dog has had over 6 homes in the last 2 years through no fault of his own. We’ll repeat that…through no fault of his own. Yikes! A huge thank you to animal control for all the sleuthing with his microchip to find out as much as possible about this little bean. We are shaking our heads about the lack of responsibility and empathy in our society, but…onwards and upwards for this brave and resilient lovebug! We promised him…the best is yet to come and there is absolutely NO reason so many irresponsible humans should have given him away. He is spectacular!
Read more about BamBam
The name Bam Bam is ironic for such a little and docile guy. He is a petite bulldog at 40 lbs in a compact body. He takes the stairs one at a time (and allows for the executive service of being carried if he doesn’t feel like climbing). He is SOOOOO squishy with soft and floppy neck skin and a nub for a tail! And we love his tan freckles! He allows everything…baths, nail trims, ear cleanings, teeth brushings, cleaning his folds. He may have selective hearing due to his breed, but when he hears the treat jar open, he instantly drops into a “sit” with a pathetic look of expectation. This makes us think he had a loving owner most of his life and was part of a family as a valuable and loved member and that makes us happy. He loves a schedule, his naps, couch snuggles, and (obviously) treats! He is quiet and easy-going but is a total character! He tap dances for food and hot rods in the dirt every time he pees. And now he just needs a forever home and a Bedrock all his own. Have a resident Dino or Baby Puss at home? Bam Bam has been great with all creatures and is living with multiple cats and dogs in his foster home. Bam Bam is just looking for a Barney and Betty all his own. Someone to love him forever and ever after all he has been through. Due to his age and lack of history, older or no kids would be best for this amazing little Rubble.
Adopters will need to understand the breed and what owning a bulldog entails. The extreme features that make Bam Bam ridiculously handsome require some extra attention. Adorable wrinkles require some additional cleaning and care. That squishy and ginormous face can mean breathing difficulty with exercise or quickly overheating in the sun. And his stocky frame means he could sink like a bowling ball in water.
Bam Bam’s top 3 priorities:
1. A family will never give up on him! Seriously, 6+ homes in the last 2 years through no fault of his own is madness and he desperately needs his next stop to be his last stop!
2. A loving family who will give this sweet senior a soft place to land.
3. A family who is aware of the potential medical costs associated with bulldogs of any type and is willing to care for Bam Bam for all of his days.

Young · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 18 mi from Ayer

Pip is a lab mix weighing 44lbs at around 10 months old, he is an extremely loving and gentle, affectionate boy once he has had a little time to get comfortable with you, and loves to play with all kinds of toys! He is typically more on the mellow, laidback side, and loves to relax on the couch. He would probably do best in a quieter home or with someone that will be patient with him as he can be slightly nervous and timid at times especially when meeting new people or dogs. He may let out a few barks, but after a few moments pass and he realizes you’re there to be friends he is wagging his tail and giving kisses in no time.
Read more about Pip
Pip is potty trained and crate trained. He likes to use his crate as a safe spot, and eats his meals in his crate as well as sleeps throughout the night in there. He does well with a slow introduction to other dogs and is fine with cats, and typically keeps to himself around them, but at times he will get the zoomies and playfully chase my other dogs around the yard. He has not yet been around children younger than 12 years old, but did well with my 12 and 13 year old siblings. He also does well on walks and in the car, and absolutely loves to play in any type of water!

Adopting a dog in Ayer
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
