4. Bash
Young (1 year 5 months) · Female · Pug (medium coat) · 16 mi from Norton Center

MEET BASH!
This tiny 11 pound 1 year old peanut is full of playful energy and ready to find her forever family. She can be shy at first, but warms up quickly to people and other pets. Then be prepared, she is ready for a game of tug of war and some tasty apple snacks!
Read more about Bash
Bash was surrendered to ProNE when her owner was unable to care for her needs. She has since been spayed and has done very well adapting to life in her foster home. She gets along well with the other pugs and cat in her foster home. One of her favorite games is playfully stealing their toys and giving chase or soliciting some tug of war challenges. She can be a little "mouthy" during play, not uncommon at her age, but it may be interpreted as biting for very small children, so older dog savvy kids would do best with her.
Bash is house trained, does well on the leash, loves her walks, and loves to go on adventures in the car. She is also crate trained. It was reported that in her first home she liked to escape her enclosure. Any areas off limits to her in a home should be safely secured. Bash is easily redirected but left to her own devices she'll happily "refinish" furniture. Another thing to keep in mind for unsupervised spaces.
She enjoys playing in the yard and is curious to explore all the areas of the fenced yard in her foster home. We would love to see her continue to enjoy that activity, but an unfenced or no yard is not a deal breaker as long as she gets plenty of time to explore the world on leash.
Bash is a healthy young dog. She has been maintained on flea tick and heartworm preventatives and is UTD on vaccines. She eats a diet of Blue Buffalo Basics Skin and stomach care and tolerates it well. She enjoys yogurt, chicken and ground beef toppers. She shows no food aggression or resource guarding tendencies with the other dogs in her foster home.
Not a big barker; she would do well in a quiet neighborhood as loud noises can frighten her. She would be fine in an active household as she loves the stimulation of interacting will all of the family members currently caring for her. Bash is a fun, energetic, sweet girl. We are looking forward to finding her a place where she can create many happy memories with her new family and receive all of the love, care and stimulation a young pug craves. Who's up for the challenge?
ADOPTION FEE $900.00. $750.00 based on age plus $150.00 spay fee

5. Kili
Adult (4 years) · Male · Pug (medium coat) · 16 mi from Norton Center

MEET KILI!
This 4 year old sweetheart was surrendered to Pug Nation LA after the German Shepherd in his home attacked him, not once, but twice, resulting in the loss of both of his eyes. As many who have loved a blind dog know, they do not need their eyes to see. They rely on their other senses much more than we humans do and a loss of vision only heightens these senses. Kili has adapted well to the loss of sight and with some very simple accommodations he is ready to take on all the adventures that await him in his big beautiful life.
From his foster mom:
Read more about Kili
"He is a winning lottery ticket for a pug. He might not be able to see you but he is smart with his other senses already. He navigates well with noises and his name. He is a really happy go lucky dense potato pug."
Kili is a sweet, gentle, affectionate and curios boy. He is trusting of a kind human touch and once he knows your scent, he readily accepts loving pats, with a little verbal head's up. He is a bit wearier of males, but once he knows them, he learns to trust. We do not think placing him in a household with males will be an issue at all. Kili is friendly with other dogs despite his history of being attacked. He has learned to worship the dominant bossy princess in his foster home much like all others who enter her domain. We think Kili could benefit from a confident leader who could help him navigate the world, but he would also be ok with just his person to show him the way. It should come as no surprise that Kili is a velcro pug who is happiest when in the company of, or even better, being carried by his person. Adopter must be able to safely lift and carry 17 pounds. Kili can walk on leash, but his adopter should be mindful of the environment and work on training for stepping on and off curbs as well as awareness of other hazards. He has not been cat tested and we will consider older, dog savvy children only. Kili needs a predictable routine and environment.
Other favorite things; belly rubs, playing with soft toys, treats, affection and being on his person's lap, not necessarily in that order.
Stairways will need to be gated. Kili is good at climbing stairs and can navigate downstairs with a companion beside him. He has been great on car rides and is also crate trained.
Kili is still working on potty manners. He has been wearing a belly band indoors related to some marking behaviors. This may also be a way he maps out his environment. Other ways to support Kili's mapping are by using different scented oils in separate rooms. Cathy Symnd's book Blind Devotion is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to learn more about caring for a dog without vision. Potty training will be a work in progress and his adopter will need to approach with love and patience. Kili has had so much change in his life and we think he is amazing for all he has overcome! He is great for grooming and will never need eye drops, so there's that! Kili is otherwise healthy. He does take medication at night (trazadone) to help him relax as if he is startled awake; he becomes distressed and has trouble settling. This may change as Kili continues to adapt to an environment of safety.
We are so excited for what the future holds for this amazing dog. Are you ready to experience all there is to be in awe of as it relates to love and resilience? Can you provide the space, patience and safety that Kili needs? Take a look at his requirements for adoption and complete an application. If you have already filled out an app in the last 6 months and are interested in Kili, you can complete our Approved/In Process Form.

6. Neville
Adult (8 years 1 month) · Male · Pug (medium coat) · 16 mi from Norton Center

MEET NEVILLE!
Affectionately known as Me Nevie! This handsome 8-year-old pug is a laid-back gentleman looking for a forever home where he can enjoy the simple pleasures in life. At about 35 pounds, Neville is a calm, affectionate boy who loves spending time with his people, lounging on the porch, watching TV, and taking short strolls around the neighborhood. He came to us after his owner had some cognitive changes that left Neville needing more consistent care. He has adapted very well in his foster home, and we are seeking placement in a calm, predictable home where his future needs can be met.
Read more about Neville
Neville is a friendly, adaptable guy with a gentle soul. He gets along well with other dogs, barks at cats and cat statues, has done well meeting children, and is friendly and welcoming with new people. While he enjoys companionship, he's not overly demanding and is happy to simply hang out nearby. He would likely be ok in a household where his people worked outside the home as long as you leave to TV on for him. One of his favorite possessions is his beloved pink heart stuffy, and if he really likes you, he may jump up to give you a sweet pug kiss. He is also a big fan of butt pats and dog-safe vegetables.
Like many pugs, Neville knows what he likes and doesn't like. Car rides are not his favorite activity, and he strongly prefers to keep all four paws on the ground. He does a little better when riding in a crate but if you are looking for an adventure buddy Neville may not be your guy. Being picked up has never been his thing, even since puppyhood, so his future family will need to respect his boundaries and let him move at his own pace. When he's unhappy, he may grumble to let you know, but he's made great progress in foster care and has successfully handled recent veterinary visits with a patient, understanding team. He has needed a pre-med for grooming and vet appointments in the past. This should be something to consider with your veterinarian. Considering his distaste for car rides, living near your vet’s office or using a mobile vet would be a great option.
Neville is food motivated and knows commands such as sit and come, although sometimes he chooses to exercise a little selective hearing. He enjoys a predictable routine, currently eats a weight-management diet, and has recently shed a few pounds while in foster care which has him feeling great. His hearing, vision, and mobility are all on point. He has a history of ear infections and was treated recently with a long-acting single dose medication.
The ideal home for Neville is a quiet one where he can enjoy his golden years surrounded by love. He would thrive with people who appreciate a slower pace of life: relaxing evenings on the couch, time spent outdoors watching wildlife, and leisurely walks. A canine companion could be a wonderful bonus, especially a calm, friendly dog to nap and hang out with. Neville has been sleeping in his crate at night, he formerly slept with his person and we are pretty sure he would not object to resuming that practice.
If you're looking for a sweet, easygoing companion who asks for little more than love, comfort, and a cozy spot beside you, Neville may be your perfect match. This charming senior gentleman is ready to spend the rest of his years being your loyal couch buddy, porch companion, and best friend.

Adopting a dog in Norton Center
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
