2. Milo 2

Adult · Male · Australian Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 4 mi from Fruitport

Meet Milo! Milo is a 4-year-old boy looking for a new home where he can have plenty of room to play, explore, and, most importantly, show off his frisbee skills! Milo loves treats, enjoys car rides, and absolutely loves the beach. He’ll even venture into the water up to his shoulders! He also knows several commands, including sit, roll over, and lay down. Although here at the shelter he has just been doing sit and jump Milo is housebroken and kennel trained. He does well for baths and brushing, and he’s even good at the vet! He has a funny little habit of carrying shoes around the house, but don’t worry… he doesn’t chew them.

Read more about Milo 2

He has also been known to counter surf when there’s food involved, so you may want to keep those snacks out of reach! On walks, Milo does well on leash but can pull when he spots another dog. He has previously lived with two other dogs, but he has shown some food-related aggression toward another dog, so feeding separately and a proper meet-and-greet with any potential canine siblings would be important.Milo previously lived with a fenced yard and figured out he could jump it. Because of his escape-artist tendencies, his future family will need to be extra mindful about keeping him safely contained. Most importantly, Milo needs a home without small children.Milo has so many great qualities packed into one handsome guy. He’s playful, smart, housebroken, loves adventures, and is ready to find a family who understands his needs and will love him for exactly who he is. ❤️Interested in adopting? 3. Slinky

Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed · 4 mi from Fruitport

This Slinky Dog has had a pretty rough start, but we’re hoping the rest of his story looks a whole lot different.Meet Slinky, a sweet 2-year-old boy who arrived at our shelter alongside his two kiddos, Woody and Bo Peep. All three came to us with fleas, scared, and unsure of the world around them. But of the three, poor Slinky was in the worst shape. The fleas had taken quite a toll on his little body, leaving him with significant hair loss. While those pesky fleas are finally gone, Slinky is still working on growing his fur back. His coat might look a little rough around the edges right now, but we think he’s pretty darn handsome anyway. And just like his kids, Slinky is still learning that people can be trusted.

Read more about Slinky

He’s a timid little guy who needs time to feel comfortable around new faces. He’s not going to be the dog who immediately runs into your arms, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want love. He’s just not quite sure how to accept it yet.He just needs someone willing to look past his shyness and patchy fur to see the wonderful little dog underneath. We’re hoping to find Slinky a family who understands that healing takes time. His fur will grow back, but building his confidence and trust might take a little longer. He deserves someone who won’t rush him, who will celebrate every little step forward, and who will love him just as much on his scared days as they do on his brave ones. His two kiddos, Woody and Bo Peep, are also searching for their forever homes. All three have a little healing left to do, but we know the right families can make all the difference.Slinky doesn’t need to have a perfect coat or a perfect personality to deserve a perfect ending. 5. Malibu

Young · Female · Great Pyrenees · 4 mi from Fruitport

Meet Malibu, our sweet, shy girl who deserves a fresh start!Malibu is a 2½-year-old Great Pyrenees with a gentle soul and a timid personality. Right now, the world seems a little overwhelming to her, and she’s still trying to figure out who she can trust. But underneath that shy exterior is a sweet girl who just needs someone willing to give her the time, patience, and love she deserves.Unfortunately, she also came to us with an injury on one of her hind legs. She’s not putting much weight on it, and from the looks of things, we’re wondering if she may have spent time tied up. We can’t say for certain what happened.

Read more about Malibu

She’ll be heading to the vet to have her leg examined so we can figure out what’s going on and get her feeling better.Being only 2½ years old, Malibu still has plenty of learning and growing to do! She’s reportedly good with kids and other dogs, although she hasn’t been around cats. She’s has been known to chew on things. She’s also a fan of toys, treats, and even bath time!Right now, our biggest priority is making sure Malibu is comfortable, healthy, and knows she’s safe. We don’t know everything about her past, and we wish she could tell us what she’s been through. But we do know that her past doesn’t have to define her future.Malibu deserves a home where she has room to stretch her legs, people who understand her breed, and most importantly, a family who won’t rush her as she learns to trust. She’s not the kind of dog who’s going to walk through the door and immediately show you her whole personality (at least so far she’s not). She’s going to need a little time, a little reassurance, and someone who sees the potential in the quiet girl standing in front of them.Interested in adopting? 6. Prince

Young · Male · French Bulldog / Mixed · 4 mi from Fruitport

Meet Prince, a 1-year-old Frenchie mix who is ready to trade life outside for a home of his very own.Prince spent most of his life as an outdoor dog, so living inside and being part of a family will be a new experience for him. He’ll need someone patient and willing to help him adjust, learn a routine, and understand what it means to finally be a house dog. He may not know all the rules yet, but he deserves the chance to learn them.Prince loves his toys… although his version of “loving” them usually involves tearing them apart. Stuffed toys, you’ve been warned. He’ll also need some work on his leash manners.

Read more about Prince

Prince is a strong boy who likes to pull and hasn’t quite figured out that walks are supposed to be a team activity. With consistency and training, we think he’ll get there. When it comes to other dogs, Prince has a very dominant personality, so we feel he would probably be happiest as the only dog in the home. He’s looking for a family where he can soak up all the attention and continue learning how to be the best version of himself.Prince is only a year old. He has so much life ahead of him and so much left to learn. What he needs now is someone willing to give him the patience, structure, training, and loveInterested in adopting? Absolutely. Snacks? You now have his undivided attention. And when we say Berg is food motivated, we mean VERY food motivated. If there’s a treat involved, Berg is suddenly the most dedicated student you’ve ever met. He already knows how to sit and shake, and with his love of snacks, we think he’ll be a lot of fun to continue training.Berg seems to do well with other dogs and would love a home that can keep up with his energy and give him plenty of opportunities to play, explore, and learn.

8. Hippo

Adult · Male · American Bulldog / Mixed · 4 mi from Fruitport

Meet Jax, our handsome 3-year-old boy with a big personality, plenty of energy, and a serious love for belly rubs!Jax is an active guy who is always ready for playtime, walks, and adventures. He loves being around people and soaking up attention, and once the excitement settles down, he’s more than happy to roll over for some belly rubs and cuddles. One major bonus? Jax is completely house trained! He keeps his kennel clean and has had no accidents. He does get excited on walks and can be a strong puller, so he’ll need someone willing to continue working with him on his leash manners. With consistency and training, we think he has so much potential. When it comes to other dogs, Jax would do best with a female dog.

Read more about Hippo

A meet and greet would still be important to make sure everyone is comfortable and it’s a good match. In his previous home, Jax seemed to respond better to the male in the household. He can be a strong-willed boy, he likes women, he just does better when his women are confident, consistent, and comfortable setting boundaries. Jax is definitely the type who will figure out pretty quickly what he can get away with, so he needs someone who won’t let those puppy-dog eyes convince them that the rules suddenly don’t apply.Underneath that big personality is a sweet, affectionate boy who has so much love to give. Jax just needs the right person who understands him and can give him the structure, activity, and attention he needs to thrive. If you’re looking for a fun, loving companion with plenty of personality, Jax might just be your guy!Interested in adopting? 9. Rocky

Adult · Male · Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 4 mi from Fruitport

Meet Rocky a 6-year-old Lab/Pit mix who is living proof that age is just a number when you are THIS EXCITED TO BE ALIVE. ❤️And before anyone says anything about his photos… we know. We tried. Rocky simply does not have time to stand still and pose when there are people to love, things to sniff, and approximately 47 reasons to wag his entire body. This guy wakes up every day absolutely THRILLED that the earth is still spinning and he gets to be here for it.Rocky is a super happy, high-energy guy who LOVES to play, especially fetch, and loves attention just as much. He knows sit and lay, is housebroken, and can be left home for a normal workday without destroying the place.

Read more about Rocky

He isn’t kennel trained, but he’s used to having free roam of the house. He has lived with kids before and did well with them, although with his energy and enthusiasm, kids who can handle his play style may be the best fit. He’s lived with another dog and has done well with cats, too, although he can play a little rough.Rocky does pull on leash and isn’t leash trained yet, so he’ll need someone strong enough to handle him and willing to work with him, otherwise he will be taking you for a walk. A fenced-in yard would be a HUGE plus so he can safely get those zoomies out. He can also be nervous in the car and may cry a little… presumably because sitting calmly while the world goes by is simply not Rocky’s brand. At 6 years old, Rocky may technically be a grown man, but nobody has informed Rocky of this. He’s goofy, energetic, affectionate, playful, and just so ridiculously happy to be on this earth that he can barely stand it.If you want a dog who will make you laugh, keep you moving, play fetch until your arm falls off, and greet life like it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him… you need to meet Rocky. ❤️Interested in adopting? But somehow, Petey never let that take away his sweetness. His tail tells you everything you need to know about him. ❤️ It’s a happy, happy tail that seems to have a mind of its own, wagging away whenever someone gives him a little attention. After everything he’s been through, Petey is still excited to see people.

13. Izzy

Senior · Female · Miniature Schnauzer / Mixed (long coat) · 23 mi from Fruitport

Visit Izzy in person on Saturday November 7 from 10 to 12 at the Holland PetSmart (12635 Felch St). No application needed - just show up and give her some love!

Izzy is a very special 13-year-old, 12 pound Miniature Schnauzer mix who has been through more than any senior dog should have to endure. Now, she’s ready for the part of her story she has always deserved: a quiet, loving home where she can be someone’s beloved companion.

Read more about Izzy

Izzy came to us after being removed from the home by animal control, where she had been living with an elderly owner and spending much of her later life confined to a crate. We can only imagine how confusing and frightening that must have been for her. But despite everything she has experienced, Izzy has shown us that she is a sweet girl who simply wants to feel safe and be close to her person.

She successfully battled a skin infection, and thankfully, she is healing, and her beautiful fur is growing back! As her skin continues to improve, we know she is going to be a very beautiful little dog. Tyson’s Place Animal Rescue will continue to support her veterinary care as she heals, so her adopter can focus on giving her the love and stability she deserves.

Izzy has limited vision due to age-related cataracts, but don’t let that fool you — her ears work wonderfully! She can hear her foster mom’s voice and will often follow the sound of the person she loves most. Izzy likes to be with her people whenever possible and is happiest simply knowing her person is nearby.

She also enjoys having a little canine friend around. Izzy does well with small dogs and cats, and she loves following the other small dog in her foster home out into the fenced yard. She enjoys exploring at her own pace, taking in all the interesting smells. She also walks on a leash, although her walks are less about going for miles and more about stopping to investigate every wonderful scent along the way.

After spending so much of her life confined to a crate, Izzy has made it clear that what she really wants now is freedom, companionship, and a soft place to belong. She would do best with someone who is home much of the time — perhaps someone who is retired or works from home — because being close to her person is where she feels happiest and safest.

And there are some wonderful things about Izzy that make her especially easy to love: she is housebroken, she enjoys a fenced yard, and she would absolutely love to sleep beside you at night.

Izzy doesn't need a busy or complicated life. She doesn't need to run or keep up with anyone. She just needs a person who wants a little shadow by their side, a warm bed to share, and a senior dog to love.

Her past may have been difficult, but Izzy is ready to look forward. Her coat is growing back, her body is healing, and her sweet personality is shining through.

We can't change the first 13 years of Izzy's life. But we can make sure the rest of it is filled with love. If you are interested, please email tysonsplacerescue@gmail.com or fill out an adoption application available here (scroll down on that page for app): https://tysonsplacerescue.org/cat-and-dog-adoptions/#adopt

If you haven’t yet spent time with the animal, we’ll arrange a meet-and-greet. This is your chance to interact, observe behavior, and make sure the connection feels right. Adopting a dog in Fruitport

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
