About MeHello there, friends! My name is Zyggy, and I am the bundle of fun and sunshine you’ve been missing! I’m the life of every party—trust me on that! I’m spunky, full of energy, super smart, and, as you can clearly see, cute as a button! I’m great with every animal and human I meet. I’m currently working on my potty training and doing sooooo good! I’m also crate trained, although if I had my way, I’d much rather be hanging out with my people. Even though I’m a little guy, I can handle stairs like a champ! I’m not leash trained just yet, but I’m a smart boy, so I’m sure I’ll master that in no time.

2. Bennie

Young (3 months 6 days) · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier · 21 mi from Scandia

Meet Bennie!

Professional Snuggler • Treat Enthusiast • Zoomie Champion

Name: Bennie (aka Benji, Bennie Boo, Bennie Boy)

Age: Approximately 3.5 months

Size: 13 pounds of puppy sweetness and still growing!

Activity Level: Moderate! I love a good nap, snuggle session, and occasional burst of puppy zoomies. Play hard, nap harder!

Favorite Activities: Snuggling, sunbathing, exploring, chasing kiddos, hunting for treats, and taking very important naps!

Read more about Bennie

Things I Know: I’m a smart little cookie, especially when food is involved! I’m learning to sit, wait patiently for meals, and go to the door when I need to potty. I’m making great progress with potty training and my kennel routine, with just a few puppy oopsies along the way!

Things I’m Learning: The world can be a little scary! I’m practicing leash walking, building confidence, and learning that loud noises, barking dogs, and even the wind aren’t so frightening. A little reassurance (and a treat!) goes a long way.

Kids: LOVE them! Running, chasing, playing, giving kisses, and snuggling are my specialties!

Dogs: I do well with dogs of all sizes! I currently live with two large senior dogs and know when to give them space. Loud barking can still startle me, though!

Cats: Unknown, but slow introductions would be best.

Car Rides: I’m a good passenger! New places can make me nervous, so I appreciate having my humans nearby.

Bennie is a sweet, silly, affectionate little guy who’s slowly coming out of his shell! He’s incredibly food motivated (he already knows where the treat pantry is), eager to learn, and happiest when he’s close to his people.

He’s a sensitive soul who seeks comfort when something startles him, but his confidence grows a little more every day!

His favorite thing? SNUGGLING! He loves tucking his head between your collarbone and jaw and falling asleep as close as possible. Talk about a heart-melter!

Bennie does well in his kennel during the day, sleeps soundly with his foster family at night, and continues to make great progress with potty training.

His perfect home? A loving, patient family ready to help him build confidence, continue training, and enjoy endless cuddles. Adopter needs to have a solid training plan.

If you’re looking for a sweet, playful, treat-loving little shadow with a heart of gold, Bennie Boo might just be your boy!

Are you ready for a bundle of fun and excitement?!? If so, HERE I AM!! I’m a fun, energetic, and smart boy who is always ready for my next adventure! I LOVE everyone I meet, and I’m pretty sure everyone loves me right back! I’m doing really well with my potty training, and I’m learning all about crate training. I can settle down nicely in a kennel, but we’re still working on making the whole crate-training thing a little easier for me. I have lots of energy, and when I haven’t had a chance to run, play, and get all that energy out, I’m not quite ready to settle into my kennel.Because I’m such an active guy, I’ll do best with an active person or family who loves being outdoors and wants a four-legged adventure buddy to join them.

12. Bella

Senior · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed · 21 mi from Scandia

Meet BellaSometimes life changes in an instant. After spending nearly eight years with the family she loved, Bella suddenly found herself back in the shelter when her owner could no longer keep her due to housing. Understandably, she was heartbroken. The noisy shelter was incredibly stressful for her, and despite the staff's best efforts to help her cope, all Bella really needed was a soft bed, kind people, and a place to feel safe again.Thankfully, The Rescue Crew was able to give her exactly that—and almost immediately, Bella's true personality began to shine. This sweet girl is proof that age is just a number.

Read more about Bella

At 10 years old, Bella still has plenty of pep in her step and doesn't act like a senior one bit! Whether she's heading out for a walk, greeting new friends, or happily trotting around the yard, she's full of life and always ready to be part of whatever you're doing. If you so much as glance in Bella's direction, she's already making her way over for pets. She's the kind of dog who gently tucks her head under your hand or arm, quietly asking for just a little more affection. The more love you give, the happier she is.Bella is truly one of those easy, "just fits right into the family" kind of dogs. She is: Fully potty trained Crate trained (she may sing you a little song at first because she'd rather be with you, but settles in nicely) Walks beautifully on a Gentle Leader Eager to please and responds well to commands Friendly with everyone she meetsShe's also officially kid-approved! Bella recently met children ages 6 and 8 and was wonderful with both of them, happily greeting them with her signature tail wags and full-body wiggles. While Bella enjoys chasing squirrels and chipmunks, so a home without cats may be the best fit, she has been calm around other dogs and isn't reactive on walks. With slow, thoughtful introductions, we think she'd likely enjoy having a canine companion. And one more thing...Bella has a very special talent. Her adorable snores just might become your favorite bedtime soundtrack. Think less "freight train" and more "instant white noise machine." They're oddly comforting and guaranteed to make you smile.Bella has already experienced what it's like to lose the home she loved. Now she's looking for the family who will remind her that the very best chapters are still ahead.Life has thrown Bella more than one unexpected curveball, but through it all she's remained incredibly loving, trusting, and ready to share her whole heart with the people around her. If you're looking for a loyal companion who is affectionate, well-mannered, easy to live with, and ready to shower you with unconditional love, Bella may be the perfect match. Read more about Sally

Hi! Hi! Hi! Did I say hi yet? My name is Sally, but sometimes my foster mom calls me Salligator, Salmonella. I’ll respond to pretty much anything, especially when you tell me I’m a pretty girl. My fur must be velcro, because I Absolutley am stuck to my humans side
24/7
. I get anxious when you’re not around, but I promise to behave when you’re gone! That leads me to the thing they call a kennel. Can we just say, no thank you?! I am working hard on kennel training but it’s very scary for me. You see, I just want to be near and beside my humans at all times. I’m also working hard on commands. I know sit, stay, and am so close to mastering heel. I live with a thing that meows, but I really don’t mind it! I’m interested in the cat, but I don’t chase. I’ve been waiting patiently to be near the cat, and we finally sat together a few days ago! I love sleeping on the bed with my person/people. Walking? I’m a pro. I don’t pull on the leash, and I don’t zig-zag too much. If I see another dog on a walk, I just look in its direction. Call me to come and keep walking and I will! Seeing other humans on walks doesn’t bother me either. I am just eager to share my love with everyone! My foster mom says I’m one of the quietest Boxers ever… except for my snoring! I also live with tiny human that has special needs, and I’m so gentle with her! Again, just being near my humans is where I want to be. My foster mom says I’m an ambassador for being America’s Sweetheart!

15. Simba

Adult (1 year) · Male · Boxer (short coat) · 24 mi from Scandia

COMING SOON TO RESCUE: I was found as a stray. It's unclear how long I was on my own as I have a lot of defensive wounds at various stages of healing. Stay away from coyotes and don't turn your back! I'm hesitant at the moment around other dogs, but hopefully once I'm healed other animals won't feel so scary. I'm very sweet with my humans and love cuddling with the kids. I'm being crate trained and so far, it looks like I'm housetrained. I like to go for walks, even the kids can walk me. I'm fairly calm, but I'm sure once I heal, I'll be the bouncy , goofy pup I'm meant to be!

20. Little Big Foot Special Needs

Puppy (3 months 26 days) · Male · Boxer · 24 mi from Scandia

COMING SOON:
I'm just a tiny baby! I was born without a right hip joint and only a partial left hip joint. So far, it doesn't affect my movements. Only time will tell if this will be a problem for me or not. I'm just too teeny to know right now. Some dogs fare quite well and I like to think that'll be me! I'll need a family who is up for regular vet visits and physical therapy to keep the muscles around my joints strong. In return, I promise to be the best boy who will give you all the puppy snuggles and kisses your heart desires.

Adoption applications must be completed, which include information regarding references and vet clinic information, DL #, names, etc. Reference checks are conducted and when necessary vetting information verified. Discussion about the animal interested in to best assure appropriate and proper placement is made, and educational information regarding how to manage a multi-dog/animal household, slow and proper introductions and the importance of a shut-down period to help the animal acclimate to new surroundings. Adopting a dog in Scandia

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
