1. Josie
Puppy · Female · Chihuahua / Pug (short coat)

Welcome Josie to CCPAL Rescue. Josie is a Chug (Chihuahua/Pug) puppy. She weighs 4 pounds and is 9 weeks old. She will be a small dog full grown. She should be 12 pounds or less. She is very sweet and has an adorable rounded head. She likes to be held, is good in a crate, goes on a wee pad and loves to play with toys. She was born at the Rescue. They took in a stray female and she was pregnant. This means the puppies get lots of attention and are very used to being in a loud and rowdy environment. Josie would be best in a home that the person doesn’t work all day every day. She needs to finish up her puppy training. Social pups make great adults and now is the time for her to spend time with her family and to go places and let people pet her. She is an AMAZING puppy. She would be fine with children. Due to her small size, we would like children to be 8 or older. She is getting her puppy vaccines and will have 3. She will then be ready for spay and adoption. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

He is learning the wee pad and gets toys and treats from our adopters. He will get grooming and nail trims at the rescue so he will be fine with that. He would be a great dog for a lover of this breed. A smaller yard would be fine. He would be fine in a doggy daycare as he is very social. He was found as a stray. She would be fine in a doggy daycare as she is very social. Right now, I would say she is very sweet and very cuddly. People who have had this breed love it for the loyalty to their human. She is getting spayed and all her vaccinations at the Rescue. She is ready for her forever home. She would be best in a home with someone that doesn’t work all day everyday as she will need to finish up her puppy training. She would also be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older due to her small size and trusting nature. A house with less stairs and less split levels would be best for her. She is currently in the CCPAL Rescue in Texas. She can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200 to move her to another state. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

8. Milo
Adult (1 year 5 months) · Male · Poodle (Standard) (medium coat)

Meet Milo!
Milo is the newest member of the Underdog family, and we’re excited to get to know this fun-loving, energetic boy! So far, we’ve discovered that Milo loves spending time with his humans, playing with his favorite toys, and keeping himself entertained by tossing his toys around and then fetching them. This clever boy knows how to have a good time!
Milo already knows some basic commands, including sit, paw/shake, come, and stay. He’s also 100% house-trained and will ring a bell to let you know when he needs to go outside. What a smart cookie!
Read more about Milo
Friendly doesn’t even begin to describe Milo! Whether you’re an old friend or someone he’s meeting for the very first time, Milo wants to say hello. He loves people and is always ready to make a new friend.
At around one year old, Milo is still a young pup with plenty to learn. He’ll benefit from continued obedience training, especially when it comes to leash manners and walking skills. He’s also working on some typical young-dog behaviors, such as counter surfing and barking when he gets excited or wants to express himself. With time, consistency, and positive reinforcement, Milo has so much potential to become an amazing companion.
This active boy loves going on long walks where he can sniff all the wonderful smells the world has to offer. Squirrels don’t seem to distract him too much, but bunnies definitely catch his attention! When it’s time to play, Milo is a big fan of fetch, balls, and durable chew toys.
Milo is looking for a person or family who can keep up with his energy, provide structure and training, and include him in an active lifestyle. He’ll thrive with someone who has the time and patience to help him grow into his best self while enjoying all the fun and adventures life has to offer.
In return, you’ll get a smart, playful, affectionate companion who will fill your days with laughter, love, and plenty of tail wags.
Could Milo be the missing piece in your family? ❤️
Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. 9. Murphy
Adult (2 years 8 months) · Male · Cockapoo / Mixed (long coat)

Meet Murphy! Your New Best Friend and Professional Cuddle Buddy! ❤️
If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate, playful companion who will always be by your side, Murphy might just be your guy!
Murphy is a happy, confident, loving boy who absolutely adores his people. Whether he's snoozing on a dog bed next to your desk while you work, carrying around his favorite toy, joining you for a walk, or snuggling up on the couch at the end of the day, Murphy's favorite place is wherever you are. He's a true little shadow who will happily keep you company and make sure you never feel lonely!
Read more about Murphy
Murphy is a fun combination of playful and laid-back. He enjoys toys, fetch, squeaky plushies, snuffle mats, and especially spending quality time with his humans. He's energetic and enjoys getting out for walks and playtime, but once he's had some exercise, he's more than happy to settle in and relax. He also loves exploring the world with his nose, so leisurely sniff-filled walks are right up his alley! A fenced-in yard would be a wonderful bonus.
He's fully potty trained, leash trained, and a smart boy who is eager to learn. He already knows "sit" and "shake" and is working on improving his recall. He's also friendly and confident when meeting new people and is always happy to accept attention from anyone willing to give it!
Murphy gets along well with other dogs, although he generally prefers playing with his human friends. He's also very cat-savvy! He hasn't been around children, so a proper introduction and assessment would be important. One thing to know is that Murphy can be protective of high-value treats like bones around other dogs, so he'll need his own space to enjoy those special goodies.
Murphy's biggest challenge is being away from his people. He struggles with separation anxiety and can bark persistently when left alone, even when other dogs are present. His ideal home would be with someone who works from home, is retired, or otherwise spends most of their time at home. He is working on building confidence with alone time, and he'll need a patient family willing to continue helping him with that. Car rides can also make him anxious, although he enjoys feeling the breeze when the weather is nice!
At the end of the day, Murphy isn't asking for much. He just wants a family to love, a cozy spot to nap, toys to play with, walks to sniff, and plenty of opportunities to be close to his favorite people.
If you're looking for a devoted companion who will be your shadow, your cuddle buddy, your walking partner, and your very best friend, Murphy is ready to meet you! ❤️

10. Grainger
Adult (2 years 1 month) · Male · French Bulldog (short coat)

Meet Grainger! Your New Best Friend Is Waiting!
If you're looking for a loving, affectionate companion who just wants to be by your side, Grainger may be your perfect match!
Grainger LOVES people, both men and women! He gets so excited when it's time to come out of his crate and greet you with kisses. He's a total sweetheart who loves attention, snuggling next to you, and nesting in cozy blankets. He loves being spoken to softly, praised, and told what a good boy he is. And get ready for those adorable head tilts!
Read more about Grainger
Grainger is eager to please and is learning his manners. We're working on jumping, as he gets so excited to see his favorite people. He may also give affectionate little nibbles on your inner elbow or ears. He responds well to correction, although he may need a few reminders. Because of his enthusiasm, a home without small children may be best.
House Manners & Potty Training
Grainger is doing wonderfully with his potty training! He prefers going outside but will also use a potty pad if you miss his subtle signals. He does best when someone accompanies him outside, encourages him with a "Go Potty," and gives him lots of praise. He doesn't have accidents in his crate and settles in nicely. He may whimper softly at first because he'd much rather be with you, but he falls asleep quickly.
Other Dogs & Playtime
Grainger isn't quite sure how to play with other dogs yet. When his foster siblings play, he prefers to give them space and observe. He could be perfectly happy as your one-and-only or could be integrated into a home with another dog. He just wants love, attention, and a full food bowl!
Fun Facts About Grainger
Great car rider! He sits nicely beside you without trying to climb into your seat and doesn't require a crate for car rides.
Loves Benebones, balls, and stuffies. He especially enjoys chewing and trying to get those stuffies open!
Very cooperative when it's time to take toys away.
Loves bath time and does beautifully with grooming wipes.
Learning to sit and patiently wait.
Crates easily and settles down quickly.
Loves his food and gets excited for mealtime!
A Little About His Diet
Grainger has allergies, so his foster family has been careful to keep him on a raw diet that he absolutely loves. Because of his dietary needs, he isn't currently given treats. His food routine will need to be maintained and discussed with his adopter.
Grainger is a loving, gentle-hearted boy who wants nothing more than to be close to his people. He's happiest when he's getting affection, hearing your sweet voice, and knowing he's a good boy.
Could you be the person Grainger has been waiting for? ❤️

11. Blanca
Adult · Female · Rat Terrier (short coat)

Welcome Blanca to CCPAL Rescue. She is a 2 year old Rat Terrier mix. She came in from a hoarding situation. We received 3 dogs from this case. One was adopted already and one had to go to a specialized trainer in another Rescue. Blanca has started opening up and allowing people to pet her and hold her. She never got any attention in her original home, the hoarder. She is good with other dogs and causes no issues. She is kennel trained and her response to being afraid is to run and hide. She is a timid girl and not the social butterfly. She would be perfect with a person that is more introverted and wants a pet that is also similar. Blanca would be satisfied being at home with you all the time. A small walk in the yard would be fine. She until now, has not walked on leash. She is learning to do it at our Rescue. She would like a patient owner and a quieter home. An older couple or older single person would be great. Someone with a quieter home. She would be fine kenneled away if you had a party or people over. She is not very vocal and prefers to blend into the woodwork. She is really a great dog for the right family. She is getting her vaccinations, nail trims and will be spayed soon and ready for her forever home. She could be adopted locally in Texas or we could work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. . Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

12. Daisy
Adult · Female · French Bulldog (short coat)

Welcome Daisy to CCPAL foster program. Daisy is a 4-year Frenchie (French Bulldog). She has been a breeder dog and the breeder is no longer going to use her so she is now looking for her forever home. This awful in our eyes, but we are happy to find Daisy a real forever home where she can be loved and cherished and doted on. She is a wonderful dog. She is good with other dogs, potty trained, not too active, not too vocal and does good with children. She is getting her spay surgery with CCPAL. She is current on vaccinations and will also get her heartworm test. She has lived in a house so she knows the rules and structure of living with a family.

She is beautiful inside and out and we cannot believe anyone could give up a dog this fantastic. We would love someone that knows this breed. She has the shortened nose so this breed cannot tolerate heat well. Anyone that has had a Frenchie knows this. She would be fine with a moderately active family. She can go with children as well. We like them to be 8 or older. She is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally. We can work with one of the wonderful transporter to help her get to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. 13. Isle
Adult (1 year 5 months) · Male · Dachshund (short coat)

Meet Isle!
Isle is a handsome one-year-old long-haired Dachshund who is ready to find his forever home! This sweet boy loves being with his people and is happiest when he can snuggle up in your lap and be part of whatever you’re doing. He’s also a big fan of going for walks and is a wonderful leash walker. When he’s not out exploring, you can usually find him happily chewing on a bone or playing with his favorite stuffed toys.
Read more about Isle
Like many Dachshunds, Isle has a voice and isn’t afraid to use it! He can be vocal when he hears unfamiliar sounds or notices people in his surroundings. He’s still working on his potty training, but he does well when kept on a consistent schedule.
Isle gets along well with other dogs and has done well with cats, too. While he hasn’t shown aggression toward children, he isn’t particularly fond of their high energy, so a home with older, calmer kids or adults may be the best fit for him.
A securely fenced yard is a must for Isle. If something startles him, he may take off running, so having a safe, enclosed space is important.
Isle is a total stage-five clinger who wants to be his person’s constant companion! ❤️ As he’s settling in and becoming more comfortable, he’s showing some separation anxiety and has become very attached to his foster. We think he would do best in a home where someone is home most of the time and is looking for a true companion to share their day with.
Isle also seems to bond closely with one person and takes a little time to warm up to other members of the household. We’ve also noticed that he seems wary of men. He isn’t showing aggression, but he can be very cautious, barking and running away when he feels unsure. Since we don’t have any men living in our home, we can’t say for certain how he would adjust to having a man in his everyday environment, so this is something his future family should be prepared to work on gently and patiently.
Isle is a sweet boy with so much love to give, but he does have some things he’ll need help working through. He’ll thrive with someone who understands that building confidence takes time, can provide reassurance without rushing him, and is willing to help him learn that being alone can be safe, too.
At the end of the day, Isle is a young Dachshund who simply wants to be close to his person. He’s looking for a family who will give him love, patience, consistency, and plenty of opportunities to snuggle. If you’re looking for a loyal little companion who will happily join you for walks and then curl up in your lap afterward, Isle might just be your guy!

Sweet Little Georgia is looking for her forever home! This darling girl is sweet, cuddly, curious, and absolutely loves the people she meets. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side, Georgia might just be your perfect match!
Read more about Georgia
Georgia is happiest when she’s close to her people. She loves being held, snuggling in a warm lap, and curling up on a cozy blanket right next to you. She would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the day so she can follow her favorite human from room to room like the little shadow she’s destined to be. ❤️
Georgia is making progress with her potty training! She potties outside consistently when taken out and is still learning the routine for pooping. The good news? She gives plenty of warning, so an attentive human can help her get outside in time. With patience, consistency, and encouragement, we’re confident she’ll continue to make great progress. She’s also working on learning the commands “come” and “go potty.”
This curious girl is beginning to show interest in toys and bones, too! She’s had extensive dental work and is still healing from her extractions, so she hasn’t had much experience playing with them just yet. We can’t wait to see her little personality blossom as she gets more comfortable!
Georgia has had some playtime with the resident dog in her foster home, although she tends to be more interested in doing her own thing when other dogs try to engage her in play. She has done well with all the children she’s met and is wonderfully quiet around passing dogs and visitors.
Calm, friendly, affectionate, and full of love, Georgia doesn’t ask for much — just a cozy spot, a loving family, and someone who will let her be their little shadow.
Could Georgia be the missing piece of your family? If you have room in your heart and a warm lap to share, this sweet girl would love to meet you!

16. Talbot
Adult (4 years 11 months) · Male · Schnauzer (medium coat)

Hi there! I'm Talbot, a brave guy a gentle heart, a curious mind, and a playful spirit that's just beginning to emerge. I spent my early years in a commercial breeding environment, so I'm still discovering many of the everyday experiences other dogs take for granted. Sometimes the world feels a little intimidating, but I'm curious, I'm smart, and I'm learning to be brave!
Read more about Talbot
Once I get to know you, I'm a pretty wonderful companion, if I do say so myself! I love being near my people, whether that's relaxing on the couch or lounging on one of my beds. I'm affectionate but not demanding, and I have a few entertaining quirks. I love pouncing through piles of pillows, sleeping with my head dangling off the furniture, and doing an adorable little pitter-patter dance with my front paws when I'm feeling playful. I haven't quite figured out toys or playing with humans yet, but every so often, my goofy, spunky side comes out to say hello!
I LOVE going for walks and car rides! I get excited when it's time for an adventure, but once we're home, I'm perfectly happy to settle in and relax. I'm reliably house-trained, although I haven't learned how to tell you when I need to go out, so a regular routine works best. I'm also a champion sleeper. I sleep quietly through the night and patiently wait for you to start the day. Oh, and did I mention that I absolutely LOVE other dogs? I make friends easily and am a playful, respectful companion.
I'm a little cautious, but a LOT curious! New people and experiences sometimes make me nervous. I might offer a few introductory barks, especially when meeting men, but I settle down quickly. My curiosity usually wins out! Twice a week, I go to the office with my foster mom, where I've made lots of friends, especially with the people who bring treats. When I'm allowed to explore, I trot proudly from office to office with my nose in the air, investigating all those wonderful smells. Pretty impressive for a little guy who's still learning how the world works, don't you think?
There are a few things I'm still working on. Being picked up is especially scary for me, and when I'm frightened, I'd much rather retreat than confront anyone. I've never shown aggression in my foster home; I'm just a sensitive little guy who needs time to feel safe. I'm also learning that it's okay to be left alone. Sometimes I bark or get anxious, so I'll need a family willing to help me build confidence and independence at my own pace. The good news? I'm a quick learner! I think positive-reinforcement obedience classes would be a great way for us to learn and grow together.
So, what would my perfect home look like? I'd love a calm, adult-only home without children, where life is relatively predictable and I can explore new experiences at my own pace. I'd be especially happy with another friendly, playful dog who has a similar energy level. Having a canine buddy to play with and show me the ropes would be wonderful!
Most of all, I'm looking for someone who's patient, kind, and willing to celebrate the little victories with me. Someone who understands that I don't need to become a different dog; I just need the opportunity to become the best version of myself.
You see, I'm an intelligent, loving little dog who simply hasn't had the life experiences most dogs take for granted. Beneath my cautious exterior is a curious, affectionate, sometimes hilariously goofy little guy who wants to connect, explore, play, and belong.
I've already come a long way, and I have a feeling the best is yet to come. Maybe you could be the one to help me discover just how far I can go!

Adult (2 years 5 months) · Male · Shih Tzu / Bichon Frise / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet Galaxy Destroyer (Yurman)!
Galaxy Destroyer arrived feeling scared and unsure of people. During his first few days, he was so frightened that he even tried to escape the fenced yard. But with time, patience, and a little encouragement from his canine friends, this sweet boy has made wonderful progress!
Today, Galaxy Destroyer confidently heads outside with the other dogs and comes back into the house when called. He looks to his canine companions for reassurance and guidance, following their lead as he continues to learn that the world—and the people in it—can be safe and kind.
Read more about Yurman
Galaxy enjoys treats and will occasionally play with toys when he feels comfortable. Loud noises can startle him, so he’ll need a calm, understanding home where he can settle in at his own pace without being rushed or pressured.
His ideal home? A patient, loving family with a securely fenced yard and another friendly, well-adjusted dog to be his buddy. Having a confident canine companion will help Galaxy continue building trust and discovering the joys of being part of a family.
Galaxy Destroyer may need a little extra time to let his guard down, but underneath that initial shyness is a sweet boy with so much love to give. ❤️ With a safe environment, a doggy friend, and someone willing to believe in him, Galaxy has every opportunity to keep blossoming.
Could you be the person who helps Galaxy Destroyer discover that he’s finally home?

Loring the Dachshund – Will You Be My Forever? ❤️
Meet Loring! This smart, curious, and incredibly sweet boy is ready to find his forever family! ❤️
Loring is learning just how big and wonderful the world can be, and he’s gaining confidence every day. He’s a quick learner who thrives with structure, guidance, and positive encouragement. This clever little guy already knows sit, come, stay, and go potty! What a smart boy!
Read more about Loring
Loring loves being wherever his people are and wants to be included in absolutely everything! Snack time, playtime, snuggle time, car rides… you name it, Loring is ready to join in! He's also a big fan of toys, treats, other dogs, and, of course, cuddles!
He has done wonderfully at doggy daycare and loves interacting and playing with other dogs. When meeting new people, he can be a little shy at first, but with a few yummy treats and a little patience, he warms up quickly and shows his sweet personality.
One of Loring's favorite things is being close to his humans. He's an amazing snuggle buddy who just wants to love and be loved. He's eager to please, learns quickly, and is ready to keep discovering the world alongside his forever family.
Could your home be the place where Loring's next adventure begins? Could you be the one to give this sweet boy all the love, security, and forever snuggles he deserves?
Loring is ready to give you his whole heart. Will you be his forever? ❤️
I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 - 4 hours. If you are looking for a best friend, please fill out the puppy application. The more info you include on the application the better so I can find a good match for my forever home. Get your toy box ready!
**Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work!

Puppy (5 months 24 days) · Male · Maltese (medium coat)

Meet Baby Archie!
“Are you ready for some puppy kisses?” — Love, Archie!
Archie is the sweetest little guy with a big heart and so much love to give! At home, he’s completely comfortable and loves prancing around the house, checking in on every room to make sure he doesn’t miss a thing. He’s a perfect mix of playful and cuddly, with little bursts of energy when he’s ready to play and a love for squeaky toys. Once he’s all tuckered out, he’s more than happy to curl up in your lap for a nice, long nap. ❤️
Read more about Archie
This little shadow loves his people and wants to be wherever they are, preferably 24/7! Whether you’re lounging on the couch, going for a walk, or just going about your day, Archie is happiest by your side. He does well out in the world, but cars, people, and other dogs can be distracting. He can also be a little shy when strangers get too close, so he appreciates having the opportunity to approach people on his own terms. Loud noises can startle him, too, so a patient and understanding family will help him feel safe and secure.
Archie is still working on becoming fully potty trained, but he’s making progress and has minimal accidents when kept on a consistent potty schedule. He also experiences separation anxiety, so he would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time or where he has another companion to help keep him company.
If you’re looking for a little best friend who will happily snuggle in your lap, join you on walks, entertain you with his playful antics, and shower you with puppy kisses, Archie might just be your perfect match! He has so much love to give and is ready to find his forever family.

20. Nokomis
Puppy (5 months 16 days) · Male · Maltese (medium coat)

Meet Nokomis — A Sweet Little Puppy Looking for His Forever Home!
Are you ready to add a little sweetness, silliness, and puppy love to your life? Meet Nokomis! This adorable little guy is looking for a loving forever home where he can grow, learn, and become the very best version of himself. ❤️
Read more about Nokomis
Nokomis is a happy, playful puppy who is full of personality! He has that special puppy charm that makes him so easy to fall in love with. He enjoys playing, exploring, and, of course, treats! If there’s food involved, you can bet Nokomis will be interested. His love of treats may also come in handy as he continues learning new things and building his confidence.
While Nokomis has a fun and playful side, he can be a little cautious when meeting new people. He may need some extra time to feel comfortable around someone new, so a patient and understanding family will be important for him. Rather than rushing him, allowing him to approach at his own pace and rewarding his brave moments will help him learn that the world can be a safe and wonderful place. Once he feels more comfortable, his sweet personality has so much room to shine!
Like many puppies, Nokomis is still learning all about the big world around him. Leash training is a work in progress, and right now, he sometimes freezes when he’s on the leash. He will need someone willing to work with him patiently, offering plenty of encouragement, gentle guidance, and tasty treats along the way. With time, consistency, and positive reinforcement, he can continue building confidence and learning that the leash can be part of fun adventures, exercise, and those important potty breaks.
Nokomis is also working on crate training. He can be vocal in his crate and may take a while to settle down, so his future family should be prepared to help him learn that his crate is a safe, comfortable place to relax. Patience, consistency, and a gentle approach will be important as he adjusts to his new surroundings and routine.
Please remember that Nokomis is still a puppy! He is learning, growing, and figuring out what is expected of him. He won't have everything mastered overnight, but with a family willing to invest time, love, and positive training, he has the opportunity to make wonderful progress. ❤️
✨ What makes Nokomis special? He's sweet, cute, and full of personality. He's happy and playful, with plenty of puppy fun to share. He loves treats and food, making them great tools for training. He has a softer, more cautious side that deserves patience and understanding. He's a work in progress who needs someone willing to help him learn and grow.
Nokomis is looking for more than just a place to live. He needs a family who will see his potential, celebrate his little victories, and stand by him as he gains confidence in new situations. Someone who understands that the best relationships take time and that watching a puppy blossom into a confident, loving companion can be one of life's sweetest rewards.
Imagine all the happy moments ahead: watching him discover his favorite toys, celebrating when he learns something new, enjoying playful puppy antics, and building a bond that grows stronger every day. With the right person by his side, Nokomis has so many wonderful experiences waiting for him!
If you have a loving heart, a little patience, and a willingness to help a young pup navigate the world, Nokomis may be the perfect addition to your family.
Nokomis is ready to start the next chapter of his life. Could that chapter be with you? ❤️
I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. 21. Pickles
Female · Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Black Mouth Cur (short coat)

Welcome Pickles to CCPAL Rescue. Pickles is a 2 year old. She is a small Terrier/Black Mouth Cur is our best guess. She is a medium sized dog that weighs 28 pounds. She is full grown and she was found on the streets with her puppies. She is a great momma dog. She is friendly to people she knows and trusts and warms up slowly to new people. She will be a great alert dog for an older couple or someone that is home alone and wants to feel that the dog has your back. She has never shown aggression but she does bark when things are out of the ordinary or someone she doesn’t know has arrived. She would be best for at least a moderately active family. I would think someone with a more quiet home that wants a loyal companion to join the group. She has a short coat and not a huge shedder. She is good with other dogs and has been off leash with a number in play groups here at CCPAL. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. She is getting spayed soon, all her vaccinations, heartworm negative and will be ready for her forever home in a week or two. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

22. Rico
Adult (6 years 6 months) · Male · Poodle (Miniature) (medium coat)

Rico the Poodle is looking for his forever home!
Rico is such a sweet, gentle, easygoing little guy who really just wants to be near his person. He is a very chill dog with a quiet, soft personality. He isn’t the kind of dog who demands a lot of attention or needs constant activity. Instead, he quietly moves around the house and seems happiest when he can simply lay down next to you. He has this gentle, almost old-soul quality about him. He moves slowly and quietly, and there is something incredibly endearing about the way he goes about his day.
Read more about Rico
Although Rico isn’t shy, he is cautious when meeting new people and likes to take his time before walking up to someone. Once he feels comfortable, though, he absolutely loves attention. One of his favorite things is to reach up and ask for pets, and he will happily stay close to you soaking up all the affection he can get. More than anything, Rico seems to want companionship. He wants a person who will let him be their little shadow and curl up beside them. He would be perfectly content spending much of his day resting next to someone on the couch or enjoying a quiet snuggle.
Rico doesn’t play a whole lot, although he has recently discovered a couple of squeaky toys and has shown some interest in them. He seems much more interested in being close to his person than running around entertaining himself. He walks nicely on a leash when he goes outside for potty breaks and exercise, and while he knows some commands, his listening skills can come and go when he is outside. He enjoys getting out for walks but doesn’t need a marathon to be happy. He seems very content with a calm, predictable routine.
Rico is not completely potty trained yet, but he is really, really close. When he is kept on a good schedule, he does very well. The accidents he has had have primarily been when he has been left for extended periods while we are at work. With someone who is home more often or able to maintain a consistent potty schedule, we believe he could be very easy to care for. His former owner also told us that he did well in a crate. We don't currently have a crate, so we haven't been able to test that ourselves, but it may be something that would help him feel more comfortable when left alone.
Rico does bark a little when he hears noises, and he does bark when we aren't home. We don't know exactly how much of this is separation-related or how he might do in a crate, so that is something his forever family will need to be patient with as he adjusts. He is otherwise a very quiet dog who doesn't spend his day making noise.
Rico gets along well with our resident dog, who is a 50-pound female Bernedoodle with a very confident personality and lots of energy. She has snapped at him a couple of times, and Rico's response has been to simply move away and ignore her. He doesn't seem interested in confrontation and has shown a very gentle, tolerant nature around her.
Rico does move like a quiet old man. He walks slowly and can be a little awkward on the stairs, but he definitely has some spring in his step when he wants it! He can jump right up onto our elevated king bed, which is about 36 inches high, so there is more ability and energy in that little body than his slow-and-steady walking might suggest. He seems to have his own pace and is happiest when life is calm and predictable.
We really think Rico could be an incredible companion for someone who is looking for a quiet, loving dog. He seems especially suited to someone who wants a snuggle buddy and a little companion who will happily lay beside them for hours. He doesn't need a busy household or endless entertainment. He just wants to feel safe, loved, and included.
There is something very special about this little guy. He has such a gentle presence and such a sweet way of asking for affection. When he reaches up for pets or quietly settles down beside you, it's hard not to fall in love with him. ❤️
Rico is ready for a forever home where someone w

23. Maverick
Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Dachshund (short coat)

Welcome Maverick to CCPAL Foster Program. Maverick is a 4-year-old Chiweenie. He weighs about 19 pounds. He is good on a leash, good in a car. He is potty trained and very loyal to his person. He knows “go for a walk”, “stop”, “leave it”, “It’s the neighbor” and a few other commands. He is in a home and the owner is having some very big financial issues and need to find Maverick a new home. Maverick has some allergies to food and the food that he can is a Duck and Potato kibble. He has some allergies to grass. He has taken Apoquel successfully to handle the allergies. He warms up slowly and is very loyal and bonded once he has bonded. He would be great for a senior couple or single wanting a companion. A nice yard for him to get exercise in would be nice or someone that could have the time to take him on a couple of walks would be great. He isn’t the social butterfly that some dogs are so a matching owner would be the best fit. He would be a great dog to alert you to someone at the door or something being off in the environment. He is good on walks and would help a senior be more active. He is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. He could go with children but we would like them to be teens. I think a quieter home would be best for this boy. His adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

24. Priscilla Prissy
Puppy · Black Mouth Cur / Labrador Retriever (medium coat)

Welcome Priscilla “Prissy” to CCPAL Rescue. Priscilla is a 10-week-old sweetie. Lab/Black Mouth Cur mix is our best guess. She should be a medium sized dog 28 pounds or less. He is sturdy and has longer legs then her stubby legged brother. Her mom is Pickles and she is also medium sized. She is getting lots of attention at the Rescue and she is social, good with other dogs, good in a crate, learning wee pad manners and is over all a very nice puppy. The kennel staff usually bathe and clip toenails on a regular basis as well. She will be fine with grooming. She has a soft fluffy coat and adorable expressions. She was found as a stray with her mom who is Pickles. She is getting all 3 sets of his puppy vaccinations and will be spayed soon. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Prissy would be fine in a family with children. We like them to be 8 or older. A puppy is always best with someone that is not gone all day every day. A puppy needs to bond with his humans and to go places to remain and grow up to be a well-rounded dog. Priscilla will also need to finish her puppy training. She would be great in a doggy daycare as she gets time playing off leash with other puppies her size. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

25. Shelby
Adult (6 years 1 month) · Female · Maltese (medium coat)

Meet Shelby! A Tiny Maltese with a Big Personality!
Hi, I’m Shelby! I’m a tiny Maltese with a whole lot of love, a playful spirit, and a personality that makes me seem much younger than I am!
I’m a very friendly little girl who loves being around my people and making friends with other dogs. I’m currently living with three little dogs in my foster home (Maltese and Poms), and I get along great with them! I’d love a home where I can have plenty of companionship, cuddles, and playtime.
Read more about Shelby
One of my favorite things in the whole world is my stuffed squeaky toys! You’ll often find me happily trotting around with one in my mouth, showing off my favorite treasure. When I’m not busy playing, I’m more than happy to snuggle up on the couch with my favorite humans.
I’m a pretty easygoing girl overall, and I do well spending the night loose in my foster home. I’m not a big fan of kennels, though, and I can be vocal when crated or left alone for a while. I may need a little patience and understanding as I settle into my forever home.
Because I’m so tiny, I’ll need a family that keeps my safety in mind. I can squeeze through surprisingly small openings in chain-link fencing, so I’ll need close supervision whenever I’m outside. I’d also do best with other small, gentle dogs rather than large, active dogs who might accidentally hurt me during playtime.
I have so much love to give and a fun, youthful spirit that will keep you smiling! Whether we’re playing with squeaky toys, hanging out with other little dogs, or cuddling on the couch, I’m happiest when I’m with my people.
Could you be my forever family? If you’re looking for a tiny, friendly, playful companion who’s ready to fill your home with love, I might just be your girl! ❤️

26. Nate
Adult (4 years 4 months) · Male · Maltese (medium coat)

Meet Sir Nate!
Nate is slowly but surely coming out of his shell, and this adorable little guy is showing us more of his personality every day!
He’s a bit of a goofy character who likes to keep you guessing. Sometimes, you’ll reach out to pet him and he’ll scamper away. Other times, he’ll come right up to you and ask to be picked up or invited onto the couch so he can curl up in your lap or snuggle beside you. One thing is becoming increasingly clear: Nate really loves his people and is learning just how wonderful human affection can be! He seems to absolutely love being petted and is craving more and more attention as his confidence grows.
Read more about Nate
Nate has recently started showing interest in toys and has even begun playing with a little squeaky toy! He isn’t quite playing with his foster siblings yet, but we think there’s a good chance he’ll continue to blossom and discover the fun of playing with other dogs in time. He enjoys the company of his resident canine friends, but he isn’t dependent on them to feel comfortable. He could happily live with other friendly dogs or potentially be the only dog in a home where he gets plenty of love and companionship.
Leash walking is still a work in progress, but Nate does better when he has other dogs walking alongside him. With patience, encouragement, and a little practice, he should continue to improve. He’s also VERY food-motivated, which is always a plus when it comes to training!
Nate is still recovering from his neuter and dental surgery, during which he had 10 teeth removed, but you’d hardly know it from his cheerful attitude! He was happy to get home and get back to his usual activities. His vet also detected a slight heart murmur that was considered low risk and not expected to cause him significant issues.
So, what kind of home would be perfect for Sir Nate? We think he could be a wonderful companion for a single person, a couple, or a family. He may be the kind of dog who forms a particularly special bond with one favorite person, but he has plenty of love to give. With his small size and sweet, silly personality, he could also make a lovely companion for considerate children who understand how to be gentle with a little dog.
Nate is still discovering the joys of being a beloved companion, and watching his confidence grow is such a rewarding experience. He’s cute as can be, loves treats, enjoys affection, and is beginning to let his goofy little personality shine.
Could you be the person Nate has been waiting for? Give this sweet boy a little patience, a lot of love, and a cozy spot beside you on the couch, and you just might find your new best friend!
27. Lulu
Adult (7 years 2 months) · Female · Maltese (medium coat)

Meet Lulu the Maltese — Looking for Her Forever Home! ❤️
Sweet Lulu is still learning about the comforts of home and discovering what it means to feel safe and loved. She’s a curious little girl who enjoys exploring her surroundings and being held by her trusted humans.
Lulu loves having a furry friend! She follows her foster sister around and seems to take comfort in having another dog nearby. She enjoys picking up little toys, especially soft or rubber ones, even if she hasn’t quite figured out how to play with them yet.

Lulu is still building her confidence and will need a patient, understanding family willing to let her settle in at her own pace. The world can be a scary place for this little girl, and she is very fearful of new things. She is not leash-trained yet and is a flight risk, so her safety will need to be a top priority while she learns to trust her new surroundings.
Lulu is looking for a home that offers:
A patient, loving family who will give her time to blossom.
A friendly companion dog to help her feel safe and secure.
A safe, secure environment with extra precautions to prevent escapes.
Gentle encouragement as she learns about leash walking and the big world around her.
Plenty of love, cuddles, and understanding. ❤️
Lulu may need a little extra time to feel comfortable, but with patience, consistency, and a canine friend by her side, she deserves the chance to discover just how wonderful life can be.
✨ Could you be the safe haven this precious little Maltese girl has been waiting for?

28. Toby
Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Dachshund (short coat)

Welcome Toby to CCPAL Rescue. Toby is a 6-year old Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix). Toby lost his owner in death and the immediate family live on a farm with farm animals. They worry about his safety with those animals so they turned him over along with another dog for rehoming. We are happy to have Toby. He is outgoing, good on a leash, good with people including strangers. He weighs 13 pounds and is potty trained. He is learning to be crated and is a lovely dog. He will be with us while we look for his new forever home. He is neutered and will get all his vaccines all current while he awaits his new family to fall in love with his photo and video online.

He is good with other dogs and would be fine with another dog or as an only dog. He is here in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washinton, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. He would be fine with a moderately active family and would be a great companion for a walker. He loves to walk. He would also be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older. His adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.
Contact Marlene at 210-867-1869 or email to ccpalinquiries@gmail.com if you have questions. Online applications at www.ccpalrescue.org See his cute video!!

29. Brigette
Adult (5 years 1 month) · Female · Poodle (Toy) (medium coat)

Meet Sweet Brigette!
Brigette is a sweet, shy girl who is looking for her forever home. She may need a little time, patience, and reassurance to feel comfortable, but once she knows she is safe, her gentle personality starts to shine.
Brigette is curious and eager to please. She takes her cues from the resident dogs around her, so she will need a confident companion dog in her new home to help her feel secure and continue building her confidence.
Read more about Brigette
She is beginning to discover the joys of toys—and she’s also becoming curious about whatever happens to be sitting on the coffee table! She doesn’t quite come all the way to you for affection yet, but when she is cozy in her bed, she absolutely loves ear scratches and belly rubs. Freeze-dried treats are another fast way to win her heart!
Brigette can be startled by overwhelming commotion and will need a calm, predictable environment where she can decompress at her own pace. She currently uses potty pads only, so her adopter should be prepared to continue working with her on house training.
She also barks in her crate and can take some time to settle down. Her bark is VERY loud and shrill, so a home without shared walls is a must.
Her nervousness is very understandable, but she responds beautifully to gentle reassurance. At the vet, Brigette was initially trembling in her foster's arms. After just a minute of being held close and spoken to softly, she completely relaxed. ❤️
Brigette is such a sweet little soul. She doesn't need someone to rush her—she needs someone who will give her patience, reassurance, a canine buddy, and the time to learn that she is finally home.
If you have a calm home, a friendly resident dog, and lots of love and patience to give, Brigette may be the girl you've been waiting for.

When she’s not out adventuring, Kansas is all about the cozy life. Belly rubs? YES, PLEASE! Neck scratches? Absolutely! Chew bones? Her favorite! And if there happens to be food or a drink left unattended on the table, well… she considers herself the official taste tester. No snack is safe when this little opportunist is on duty!

Adopting a dog in Scott County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
