8. Kemba

5 Years 9 Months · Female · Rottweiler / Mixed

Kemba was placed by the rescue in 2020. The adopters have requested our help in rehoming her.

Kemba really is a great dog with so much love to give. She's incredibly affectionate and loves being around people. Whether it's playing fetch, going for walks, or just curling up next to you on the couch, she's happiest when she's spending time with someone. One of the things we've always loved about her is how easily she adjusts to whatever we're doing. She can play ball for hours if you're up for it, but she's just as happy lounging on the couch all afternoon. She sleeps well at night, usually on the living room couch.

Read more about Kemba

She's always been great with kids, from little ones to teenagers, and gets along really well with other animals. She doesn't have any issues with resource guarding, but she definitely likes being the center of attention! If another animal is getting some love, she'll sometimes try to get your attention back on her.

Read more about Felix

Fall is in the air, and Felix is ready to be your ultimate pumpkin-spice sidekick! This handsome 3-year-old Rottie made the road trip up from Georgia and is fully prepared to leap into your pile of leaves (and your heart). His foster parent reports that he is a certified "good boy" and an absolute doll who just wants to cuddle. [1]

Felix is already fully house-trained and a total pro in his crate. Now, let’s talk about his true passion: snacks. Felix is insanely food-motivated. He will do absolutely anything for a treat—which means you can easily train him to do tricks, or just use biscuits to negotiate his help pulling you down the street (he's a strong boy who likes to work those leash muscles!).{C}

Friends and Family:

When it comes to other dogs, Felix is a total lady's man! He absolutely loves his canine girlfriends and prefers his four-legged companions to be female. He has also met some human kids and was wonderful and gentle with them. However, if your home includes a feline friend, Felix is going to have to pass. He thinks cats are a little too exciting, so a cat-free castle is a must.

If you are looking for a big, goofy cuddle bug to keep you warm this autumn, Felix is your guy!

19. Marley

Adult (5 years 7 months) · Female · Australian Shepherd / Golden Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

Marley is a beautiful 5-year-old Golden Retriever/Australian Shepherd mix who is just the perfect size—not too big and not too small. She is housebroken, up to date on her vaccinations, and ready to find a family who will love her for exactly who she is. Marley is a special girl who needs a little time to feel comfortable around new people. She is wary of strangers and will bark when someone enters the home, so her ideal family will understand that she needs patience, consistency, and time to warm up. Once Marley bonds with her people, though, she is a loving and devoted companion. ❤️

Read more about Marley

Marley has lived with children most of her life and seems to absolutely love them. She would do best as the only pet in the home, with no other dogs or cats. Marley is a playful girl who LOVES her toys. One of her cutest talents is entertaining herself by tossing her toys around and playing catch all by herself! She rides wonderfully in the car and loves going for rides. And is not destructive when left home alone.

Because Marley can be vocal when strangers enter the home, an apartment would not be a good fit. She would do best in a home where her family can give her the space and time she needs to settle in and build trust. If you're looking for a loyal companion and are willing to let her come out of her shell at her own pace, Marley may be the girl you've been waiting for. ❤️

Hi! Thanks for stopping by. Grab a seat, and let’s see if your hands are free—because if they are, they should probably be petting me. My name is Ruthie, and I’m a four-year-old compact Rottweiler. I’m currently conducting interviews for the position of my forever family, and I think you might just have what it takes. I am a certified, professional love bug, and I will officially require both of your hands to be on me at all times. I am a very good girl who is already house-broken and crate-trained. I know my name, boast excellent recall, and am already fluent in basic commands like sit, paw, off, and down. I am currently working hard on mastering "stay," and I do pretty well on a leash, though we can keep practicing together.

When it comes to my future workplace culture, I do have a few strict requirements for my new home. I am looking for a cat-free environment, as feline coworkers are definitely not a good fit for me. I can potentially share my space with other dogs, but you should know that my play style leans a bit rough-and-tumble, so a thorough meet-and-greet will be required. Ultimately, I am just a compact package of pure love looking for a dedicated team to spoil me with head scratches and endless games of fetch with my favorite balls. Children 8 and older please! This princess knows her commands, loves a good snuggle, and is perfectly content entertaining herself with nylon bones and tasty treats. She rarely barks, though she does occasionally sing the song of her people if dinner preparation is taking longer than acceptable royal standards.

30. Archie

1 Year 11 Months · Male · Basset Hound / Rat Terrier / Mixed

Hello there! I know what you're thinking: you see my bowtie and think 'Wow, this dog is very important. He must have a very serious occupation.' And you would be right. As of today, I am no longer Archie the dog. I am now Archibald, Attorney at Paw. I specialize in representing other dogs when they are the victims of terrible crimes, like humans not sharing their snacks, or being forced to take a baths, or not getting pup cups regularly. I take my new job very seriously. I may be small at 28 pounds, but my sense of justice is mighty! Now onto my qualifications. Did I go to law school? No. Did I pass the bar exam? Also no.

Read more about Archie

Did I even go to obedience school? No again. But my foster pawrents say I'm smart and food motivated, so that's good enough I think. I'm good with adults and everyone loves me, so I'm sure I can use my charm and good looks to win anyone over - including judges and other lawyers. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with young kids, so I am looking for a courtroom that is adults and teenagers only! I also am good with other dogs, so I will relate well to my clients. I'm a young attorney at only 1 year old, but I am a very energetic pup and I feel like I can channel that energy into being the best lawyer ever! There's only one thing in the way of me being an attorney: I need somewhere to practice. My foster home said I could stay here until I found a new place, but I know I can't stay here forever. How do I adopt a dog in Strafford County?

Pick a dog and contact the rescue or shelter looking after them. Most ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip.

Listings are updated daily. Rescues are responsible for their own listings; a dog may have been adopted since this page was updated.
