1. Jinxy
Senior (8 years 11 months) · Male · Shih Tzu / Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (medium coat) · 92 mi from Greenville

Jinxy is the total package: Handsome, well-mannered, and a wonderful companion!
Read more about Jinxy
Quick Facts:
Name: Jinxy
Breed: Shih Tzu/Poodle Mix
Age: 9 years old
Weight: 25 lbs.
House-Trained: Yes
Crate-Trained: Yes
Good with Dogs: Yes (but would prefer to be the only dog – he doesn’t really interact with other dogs)
Good with Cats: Not tested – but open to a meet and greet
Good with Kids: Yes (older kids over 10 due to his toy possessiveness)
Energy Level: Low
Fence Required: No
Dog's Location: Garner, NC
Special Needs: Jinxy came to the rescue with fungal dermatitis and has since been on antibiotics and keto for treatment. He is receiving two medicated baths weekly and is healing wonderfully! His hair and skin should make a full recovery. Additionally, he has a Grade III/IV heart murmur and moderate cataract changes bilaterally. He is also on Dasuquin for his joint health which is typical for his age.
About Jinxy’s Breed:
Our best guess is that Jinxy is a Shih Tzu/Poodle mixed breed. Shih Tzu-Poodle mixes, often called "Shipoos," are known for being affectionate, intelligent, and people-oriented companions. Combining the friendly, loving nature of the Shih Tzu with the intelligence of the Poodle, they often form strong bonds with their families and enjoy being involved in everyday activities. Many are adaptable dogs who can thrive in a variety of living situations, from apartments to larger homes, as long as they receive regular attention, companionship, and moderate exercise.
Their ideal home is one where they can be treated as a true member of the family. Shih Tzu-Poodle mixes typically enjoy daily walks, plenty of human interaction, and a comfortable place to relax near their favorite people. They often do well with adopters looking for a loyal companion who enjoys both quiet cuddle time and leisurely adventures around the neighborhood.
What to Love about Jinxy:
At 9 years young and 25 pounds, Jinxy is the total package: handsome, well-mannered, and wonderfully easy to live with. This Shih Tzu/Poodle mix has mastered the art of being a great companion. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and so smart that he puts himself in his crate when he sees his foster mom getting ready for the gym. Jinxy is a laid-back guy who loves people, enjoys a good routine, and is happiest spending time with his humans.
Besides being your shadow, Jinxy's favorite activity is going for walks. He's great on a leash and would love a forever family that enjoys taking a few leisurely strolls each day. He doesn't need a fenced yard or an active lifestyle full of adventures and excitement. A couple of daily walks, some quality time with his people, and a comfortable couch to relax on afterward are all he really needs to be happy! While he gets along fine with other dogs, he doesn't pay much attention to them and would be perfectly content as an only pet soaking up all the attention for himself.
This friendly boy loves everyone he meets and has a calm, adaptable personality that makes him an easy companion. He would do best in a quieter home and is recommended for families with children over 10 years old. Jinxy can be possessive of toys and prefers to keep his treasures to himself, so he'll need an adopter who understands his boundaries. Because he likes to chew and may swallow pieces of fabric toys, he should only have durable, non-destructible toys.
Jinxy does have a few simple maintenance needs to keep him feeling his best. He receives medicated baths twice a week for fungal dermatitis (he is improving and should make a full recovery soon) and takes Dasuquin to support his joint health. He also has a Grade III/IV heart murmur and has moderate cataract changes bilaterally. Other than that, he's a low-maintenance, easygoing dog who is ready to settle into his forever home.
If you're looking for a loyal companion who enjoys walks, loves human attention, and is just as happy cuddling on the couch as he is exploring the neighborhood, Jinxy may be your perfect

3. Morpheus
Senior · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 72 mi from Greenville

Do you need a buddy? A buddy for you? A buddy for your dog? A buddy for your older kiddo? This guy is the best at being a buddy! Morpheus is not only handsome, he's cuddly and adorable. He would love to hang out next to you on the couch, sleep with you in the bed (stairs please, if your bed is kinda high), and just be near. He loves belly rubs and snuggles and chin chucks. He rides great in the car, and he's pretty good on leash as well. He's house trained and is crate trained, but has free roam of his current foster home, along with his three foster brothers. He lives a quiet life with low key dogs, but every once in a while he'll get goofy and start rolling around on the floor like a big dork, making all kinds of happy sounds.

When he's displeased, he'll yodel a little, full disclosure. But it's not long-lived. He just wants to be around his people. So if you're looking for the easiest guy to have around, Morpheus is that guy. He might be a senior, but he's still got a lot of life and love to give. 4. Dolly
Senior (7 years 11 months) · Female · Shih Tzu / Mixed (long coat) · 48 mi from Greenville

Meet Dolly ❤️
Dolly is a tiny Shih-Tzu girl who has already been through far more than she ever should have. She came to Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue as a stray from Guilford County, flea-infested and missing much of her beautiful fur. Despite the neglect she endured, Dolly is still a sweet little girl who deserves nothing but love, patience, and kindness from here on out.
Read more about Dolly
Dolly is estimated to be about 8 years old. She is currently receiving the veterinary care she desperately needed when she arrived. One of our biggest concerns is that Dolly appears to be blind, so she will need a patient and understanding family who can help her feel safe and secure as she learns to navigate her new world.
But being blind doesn't mean Dolly doesn't have plenty of love to give. ❤️ She is a precious little soul who deserves to spend the rest of her life knowing what it feels like to be safe, cherished, and truly loved.
Because of her age and possible vision impairment, Dolly would do best in a quiet, calm home with someone who understands that senior and special-needs dogs may need a little extra time and patience. We are looking for someone who will see past her physical challenges and recognize the wonderful little dog underneath.
Dolly didn't choose to be neglected or abandoned. She didn't ask to arrive at rescue in poor condition. But she now has a chance at the happy ending she deserves.
Could you be Dolly's forever family? ❤️
Dolly is available for adoption through Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue. If you can't adopt but would like to help Dolly and the other medically needy senior dogs in our care, donations are always greatly appreciated.

5. Zeus
Senior · Male · Shar Pei / Mixed · 72 mi from Greenville

Have you always wanted a cat, but only had room in your home for a dog? Then have we got the guy for you! Zeus is a swinging single senior with a lot of life to live. His favorite things are to rub against your legs, walk in front of you in zig zags while you're trying to move in a straight line, and curl up and snooze on a random blanket in a dark room. Oh, and he's EXTREMELY food and treat motivated! To add to the cat mystique, he's almost completely deaf, so ignoring you is kind of a character trait. He's house trained, allowed to free roam but can be crated if needed, and will also let you know if he needs to go outside.
Read more about Zeus
He's at least part Sharpei, so he has those cute little mouse ears, a rougher coat, and a spotted tongue. And he has these little gray patches of fur under his eyes that create a seriously adorable expression. He will follow you around the house, but will settle in and relax at your feet. He can manage a few steps, but more than that might be difficult on a regular basis. He has a few favorite toys (including a couple stuffies and a jolly ball) that he'll randomly play with. But his main thing is being around his people. He's neutered and heartworm negative, ready to join a new home for his next chapter. We'd love to see this gent have the best rest of his life. 6. Hazel
Senior (6 years 11 months) · Female · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat) · 92 mi from Greenville

Quick Facts:
Name: Hazel

Crate-Trained: Yes
Good with Dogs: Yes, needs a playful sibling or two in her forever home!

Dog's Location: Greensboro, NC
About Hazel’s Breed:
Read more about Hazel
Our best guess is that Hazel is a Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie) mixed breed. Yorkshire Terrier mixes are bright, affectionate, and full of classic terrier spirit. They often blend the Yorkie’s loving, people oriented nature with a bit of extra spunk or sturdiness from their mix, making them delightful little companions who enjoy being part of the action. Most Yorkie mixes are loyal, cuddly, and happiest when they can stick close to their humans, but they also carry that signature terrier curiosity — always ready to explore, investigate, and play.
Their ideal home is one that offers structure, companionship, and an understanding of terrier tendencies. Yorkie mixes thrive with people who appreciate their mix of sweetness and sass, can provide consistent routines, and enjoy having a small dog who wants to be involved in daily life. They do well with gentle children, and many enjoy having other dogs around, especially if they share similar energy levels. Because terriers can be clever and determined, secure environments, patient training, and plenty of affection help them feel confident and content.
What to Love about Hazel:
Hazel is sweet, loving, and happiest when she’s part of a pack — this girl needs doggie siblings in her forever home who match her playful terrier energy. She is affectionate, people oriented, and especially drawn to feminine energy; her foster mom believes her hesitation around men stems from her past. With time, patience, and gentle consistency, she may learn to trust again.
Hazel is a classic terrier “Houdini,” so she must be monitored closely outdoors and always have a secure fence or be leashed — she loves to explore and will absolutely take advantage of an escape opportunity. She’s potty trained with consistent outings, crate trained, and very cuddly, but she does have some separation anxiety and may chew if left alone too long. She loves her food and prefers to eat separately from her doggie siblings so she doesn’t have to share. Hazel is wonderful with kids of all ages, loves other dogs, and is cautiously curious around cats with slow introductions.
She has tons of playful energy, enjoys her walks, and is still learning her leash manners. Hazel would thrive with an experienced owner who understands terrier behavior, can keep her safely contained, and wants a loving, snuggly, spirited little companion. With the right home, Hazel will blossom into the sweetest, happiest girl!
Hazel’s Happy Highlights:
• 7 year old, 10 lb Yorkie mix with a loving, affectionate personality
• Pack oriented girl who must have doggie siblings in her forever home
• Classic terrier escape artist who needs secure fencing and leashed yard time
• Prefers feminine energy and may warm up to men slowly with patience
• Cuddly companion who loves being near her humans and soaking up affection
• Potty trained with consistency and needs regular outdoor routines
• Crate trained but may chew if left alone too long due to mild separation anxiety
• Food motivated and prefers to eat separately from her doggie siblings
• Great with kids and dogs and cautiously curious with cats
• Playful walker with tons of terrier energy and enthusiasm for exploring

8. Dexter
Senior (10 years 7 months) · Male · American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 84 mi from Greenville

Dexter was rescued from the shelter on a last call alert by Pawfect Match. Maybe his middle name should be Lucky? At the age of 10 he is a mature, well mannered man. But, I believe he has plenty of days of chasing balls and enjoying adventures ahead of him. Dex has been a gentleman with our children, he hasn’t barked at doorbells, knows his name, knows how to sit, and seems to be housebroken. He hasn’t had any interactions with other pets yet, but he seems interested. Dexter is getting better at being kenneled. He does sleep in his kennel at night, and is kenneled when we are not at home. He is a medium sized guy, recently weighing in under 40 pounds. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Dex please contact Pawfect Match. Fostering is free!

9. Halo
Senior · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 65 mi from Greenville

(DOB 05/24/2016) Don't you want to be Halo's angel? Halo, a dapper and mature gentleman is looking for his perfect human. My fostermom says I'm quite good on the leash & by quite she means; I do my best to not pull her and walk gently by her side. I love long, leisurely walks and sniffing around to see what';s new in the neighborhood.I am a master of both activity and relaxation. When I'm feeling frisky, a few backyard zoomies are always fun. Other times, you'll find me soaking up the sun on the deck, watching the world go by. After a good day, I love nothing more than cuddling up on the couch under my warm, super-soft blankie.
Read more about Halo
It makes me feel so safe and loved.I've learned to be a good housemate, too. When my foster mom leaves, I go into my crate for a nap and just sleep until she comes back. I don't get & get "barky", but I will let you know if a stranger comes into the yard—it's the least I can do! This makes me a great candidate for an apartment or condo, as long as I get my regular potty breaks. But, full disclosure, I do get a little excited about chasing squirrels and cats, so my human would need to be mindful of that. I prefer to be the center of attention and would love to be your one and only fur-baby. I might be open to a chill similarly-sized female dog after a proper introduction. (I do love my foster sister and will even curl up with her on the couch, but I’m choosy about my doggy friends.) I have not been around children so not sure how I’d react but foster mommy thinks that because Istartle with loud sounds and quick movements, it would be best if I didn’t have children around.I promise to give you my whole heart and be your most loyal and affectionate companion. If you're ready for heaven on earth, let's meet soon!As part of Halo’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little boy, you can email Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org. If you wish to adopt Halo, you can fill in an online application for him under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website: www.pawsforlifenc.org.

Meet Elvis… a tiny senior with a big personality who needs your help ❤️
Everyone, say hello to Elvis — an adorable little 11-year-old Chihuahua who has recently come into the care of Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue. While he may be tiny, this little guy has been through a lot and is counting on us to help him get the care he deserves.
Elvis is looking for a special home that understands his needs. He does not do well with children, but he does enjoy the company of small dogs after a proper introduction. Like many senior dogs we take in, Elvis has some medical needs that we now have to address.

13. Mr Pepper
Senior (10 years 1 month) · Male · Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 84 mi from Greenville

Meet Mr. Pepper — a scruffy little gentleman with a big personality and an even bigger heart.
At 10 years young, Mr. Pepper still has plenty of adventures ahead of him. He's the definition of "small but mighty": smart, confident, and always ready to keep an eye on what’s happening around him. While he may be entering his senior years, don't tell him that—he's still got plenty of pep in his step.
Read more about Mr Pepper
Mr. Pepper gets along wonderfully with other dogs and does well with respectful children who understand that every distinguished gentleman appreciates a little personal space. He's incredibly intelligent, quick to learn, and happiest when he's spending time with his favorite humans.
His dislikes are simple: vacuums. In Mr. Pepper's opinion, they are loud, suspicious, and entirely unnecessary.
If you're looking for a loyal companion, a cozy couch buddy, and a tiny best friend with a wise old soul, Mr. Pepper may be your perfect match. He has so much love left to give and is ready to spend his golden years making someone's life brighter.

Adopting a senior dog in Greenville
Older dogs are usually calm, affectionate and happy with shorter walks, which makes them a good match for older adults and first-time dog owners.
Ask the rescue about the dog's health and vet history. Many rescues charge less to adopt a senior dog.
Many small dogs live to 15 or older, so a senior dog can still be part of your family for years.
