Miller is a sweet, affectionate boy who loves being with his people. He's house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and already knows basic commands.
Read more about Miller
He gets along great with other dogs but is not a good fit for a home with cats. Miller would also do best in a home with a securely fenced yard, where he can safely run, play, and enjoy spending time outdoors.
One of Miller's favorite things is meeting new people, he's always excited to make a new friend! He also rides great in the car, making him a wonderful companion for adventures or errands.
Before coming to us, Miller was passed from home to home and didn't have the stability every dog deserves. Despite that, he has settled in beautifully with routine and consistency in his foster home.
Miller does have some resource guarding tendencies, primarily with food and high-value items like bones. Because of this, he will need an experienced adopter who understands how to manage these behaviors and continue setting him up for success. We also recommend an adult-only home with no children.
Miller is proof that structure, patience, and love can help a dog thrive. In the right home, he'll reward his family with endless loyalty, affection, and companionship. If you're looking for a devoted best friend and have the experience to help him continue to succeed, Miller may be the perfect match for you.
He is neutered, heartworm negative, and current on vaccinations and preventatives.

5. Salley
8 Years 11 Months · Female · Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 14 mi from Grover

Salley is 8-10 years old, 55 lbs
Salley is a sweet old gal who still has plenty of energy, desire, and curiosity to experience what it’s like to be in a loving home. Most of all, she loves staying close to her people so she can soak up as much attention and affection as possible.
Salley is very food-motivated and is always more than ready when mealtime rolls around! She happily enjoys treats and loves keeping a little collection of toys near her bed or enclosure. Her favorite pastime is carrying her special toys around so she can keep tabs on them.
Read more about Salley
She is both kennel trained and house trained, as long as she is given regular opportunities to go outside. Salley doesn’t mind being on a leash, but she does need some guidance to help steer her in the right direction—and safely out of the path of your feet! Her clumsy little steps are just part of her charm.
Salley is also interested in meeting other dogs, especially those with energy levels similar to hers. She seems eager to make friends, even if she hasn’t quite figured out how to play like a typical pup. With proper introductions, Salley has shown that she can be tolerant and comfortable around other dogs. She may, however, try to claim all the attention for herself—because who can blame her?
Once Salley knows she is safe and comfortable in her surroundings, she truly comes out of her shell and lets her goofy, clumsy personality shine. She still gets little bursts of energy that will make you wonder if she was ever anything other than a playful puppy at heart.
Salley may be a senior, but she has plenty of love left to give. All she really wants is a safe, loving home where she can stay close to her people, enjoy her meals and toys, and finally experience the love and attention she deserves.

Read more about Midnight
His house training has improved significantly with guidance. He learns quickly and will benefit from continued training. He does experience some separation anxiety and will whine for approximately 10 to 15 minutes when left alone, though he is not destructive. He settles down well, remains quiet throughout the night, and is very happy to see you in the morning!
Overall, Midnight has been very easy to care for and is a real sweetie. He would do best with an active person/ family willing to invest in some training and provide him with regular exercise.
He should be in a home with another dog

8. Cookies and fudge bar mixed dach bonded pair
Dachshund (short coat) · 19 mi from Grover

THEY LOST EVERYTHING… BUT THEY STILL HAVE EACH OTHER.
Meet Cookie’s n Cream & Fudge Bar, two adorable Chiweenies and two of the sweetest little souls you could ever hope to meet.
These two came from a heartbreaking situation — 14 animals abandoned in a home with no power, no food and no water. They were eventually taken to the shelter, scared and confused, and we were able to take three of them into our rescue.
The third was our precious senior Chihuahua, Nana.
Sadly, Nana has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We loved her until her very last breath, and while we wish we could have given her years of happiness, we are so grateful that she got to experience love, comfort, soft beds, good food and kindness after everything she had endured.
Nana left this world knowing she mattered and knowing she was loved.
Now we want to give Cookie’s n Cream and Fudge Bar the happy hound tales they deserve.
And if there is ANY way possible, we want that ending to be TOGETHER.
Despite everything they have been through, these two are absolutely incredible dogs.
Read more about Cookies and fudge bar mixed dach bonded pair
They are sweet, happy, gentle, easygoing and unbelievably resilient. They are so grateful for everything — a warm bed, a good meal, a kind hand and just a little attention.
They ask for so little and give back so much.

And together? They are just amazing. ❤️ ❤️
They are wonderful with other animals and people and could even do well with considerate older children. They are the kind of dogs who could fit beautifully into pretty much any loving home.
We rescue a lot of dogs, but we rarely get a pair this incredibly sweet and easy. There is something very special about these two.
They survived being abandoned together and
we would love nothing more than for the next door they walk through to be the door of their forever home — together.
Please consider opening your heart and home to Cookie’s n Cream & Fudge Bar.

9. Paisley dachshund mix
Dachshund (long coat) · 19 mi from Grover

Meet Paisley! She is a dachshund yorkie mix who is 12 years old and weighs 12 pounds. Paisley is spayed, had dental surgery(lost 4 teeth), and has some skin issues that we have treated with antibiotics and apoquel. She will most likely need to take the allergy meds her entire life and could possibly have some more skin issues down the road. Other than the skin issues, she is a very healthy girl and don't let her age fool you! Paisley is very active and super sweet!! No small children, that is why she was surrendered. Here is what her owner had to say about her to set her up for success in her new, forever home...
Read more about Paisley dachshund mix
She answers to Paisley, Paisley Anne, P, P Anne, and Pinot (Grigio)
Her birthday is 10-23-2014
She is chipped (I can send a picture of the info I have for that)
She does “fancy” which is the typical dachshund begging thing where she stands up on her back legs/butt
She also plays dead. You just have to “shoot her” and then say “Paisleys dead”
She likes cuddling but not so much petting since she’s so itchy. She will sleep on a pillow by your head.
She is good with cats she kinda just ignores them
She’s okay with other dogs as long as they’re not big. She gets small dog syndrome around bigger dogs
She likes toys until she “kills” the squeaker then she could care less
She’s house broken as long as you stay on top of letting her outside.
She won’t really run away if she gets out the door but she’s not the kind of dog to stay close by if that makes sense.
She does not like little kids.
She acts like she likes car rides until she gets in the car. Then she gets anxious and will whine most of the ride.
She is spayed (she has the little green tattoo on her belly)
She is crate trained and sometimes prefers to “hide” in one when she needs alone time.
I think that’s everything that I can think of. I trust she’s going to find the very best home. Thank you for taking her ❤️

Sheer joy! That's Smokey in two words. This adorable young black poodle mix loves everybody, plays with every dog he meets, and approaches life with so much enthusiasm that sometimes all four feet leave the ground at once! He's smart, affectionate, endlessly entertaining, and quite possibly the happiest little Superboy we've ever met.
Please Note: Carolina Poodle Rescue requires a meet and greet where everyone living in the home - all people and all dogs - will come to our farm to meet dogs. This is non-negotiable. Please do not apply if you and your family can't make this commitment.
Please note - if you want to skip the text and go straight to the application, you can find the link here: www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/application/
Must have: Another dog, time, a loving family, family dedicated to socialization of young puppies
Exercise: Smokey is a young, active poodle mix who loves to run, romp, and play. Once medically cleared, he will need daily activity and opportunities for safe, off-leash exercise at least twice per week. A fenced yard would be wonderful, but a family with a thoughtful exercise and socialization plan will also be considered. His current veterinary restrictions must be followed until his orthopedic follow-up is complete.
Best with: An active, loving family with another young, playful dog who enjoys wrestling, romping, and being silly. Smokey absolutely adores canine companionship. His current best friend is a little white poodle princess named Colette, and the two are quite a pair! He also loves people and is delighted to make new friends.
Not ideal for: A quiet household looking for a laid-back couch potato or a home where Smokey would spend long hours without companionship and opportunities to play. He is a puppy with all the enthusiasm, curiosity, and energy that comes with being young.
Energy level: High! Smokey is a busy, happy, playful puppy who throws himself wholeheartedly into everything he does.
Smokey is currently enjoying a temporary foster home this week, where he figured out the doggie door on his very first try! He's walking proudly on a leash, learning his household manners, and making his foster mom very proud. He has had an occasional overnight crate accident at the rescue, but we're wondering if his best friend Colette, who was sleeping right next to him, was keeping him awake. He's making wonderful progress!
Good with dogs: Absolutely! Smokey loves dogs of all shapes and sizes and plays enthusiastically with everyone. His friendship with Colette is especially adorable.
Good with kids: Loves people! We have not yet specifically evaluated him with young children.
Cats: Not yet tested.
Fun fact: Smokey can jump like a goat! All four feet straight up in the air when he's excited. And for Halloween, he dressed as Superboy, complete with his very own superhero cape. We think the name fits him perfectly!
Please request Smokey's full medical history before applying. He has had some challenges and is working through them beautifully.

Please Note: Carolina Poodle Rescue requires a meet and greet where everyone living in the home - all people and all dogs - will come to our farm to meet dogs. This is non-negotiable. Please do not apply if you and your family can't make this commitment.
Tara is a LAP DOG.
Not a dog who occasionally enjoys sitting in your lap. Not a dog who might climb up beside you if the mood strikes.
Tara believes laps were invented specifically for her.
She is an extraordinarily affectionate, snuggly little girl who has spent her life being loved, cherished and cared for — and she would very much like that arrangement to continue, please.
Tara came into Sheila’s life as a tiny four-week-old Morkie puppy. Noel, Sheila’s older CPR dog, became Tara’s mentor, security blanket and best friend. The girls have been together ever since, and when Sheila’s health failed, her request was that they remain together.
We agree. Tara and Noel will be adopted as a pair.
Must have: Noel. These two girls are family, and they are going home together.
Exercise: Low to moderate. Tara enjoys getting out and about, but her favorite destination is still going to be your lap.
Best with: Someone who genuinely wants a companion dog close by. A retired person or couple who is home often and has plenty of love to give would be absolutely wonderful for Tara and Noel. They don’t need a busy social calendar. They need people who want company — because these girls have plenty of it to give.
Not ideal for: A home where dogs are expected to be independent or spend most of the day by themselves. Tara wants a relationship with her people, preferably at extremely close range.
Energy level: Low to moderate. Tara is younger than Noel and has a little more pep, but she is not looking for an athletic career. Her primary occupation is companionship.
Tara has been very well loved and well cared for throughout her life. Her veterinary records show consistent preventive care and regular dental care. She had another routine dental cleaning in June 2026 and is not currently on any daily medication.
Good with dogs: Yes. Tara has lived happily with Noel for years and is comfortable with canine companionship.
Good with kids: Unknown. Tara is a small, affectionate dog, so we would want children who understand how to be gentle and respectful with little dogs.
Cats: Untested, but we would be happy to introduce her to cats and see what she thinks.
Fun fact: Tara’s definition of personal space is simple: if there is room between you and Tara, Tara intends to fix that.
We think Noel and Tara could be absolutely wonderful companions for someone retired or home much of the time who is looking for two little dogs to share the quiet parts of life with.
Noel brings the gentle, steady presence.
Tara brings the snuggles.
Lots and lots of snuggles.
These girls have spent years being loved. We are looking for someone who wants to pick up where Sheila had to leave off — and love them the rest of the way home.

Sabbath — known as Murphy in his foster home — is equal parts snugglebug, stubborn little terrier and professional blanket burrower.
His favorite place is beside his person, preferably touching you. His even MORE favorite place is in bed with you, under the covers. Once he trusts you, belly rubs are wonderful, toys and balls are great fun, and being close to his human is pretty much the entire point of life.
Murphy loves big.
And wherever you are, Murphy is probably going to be there too. He likes to be in the same room as his people and is happiest when he can be part of everyday life.
Must have: An experienced, patient dog owner who understands that this sweet boy also has opinions. Murphy needs calm, consistent boundaries and someone willing to continue teaching him that humans sometimes get to make the decisions. He can protest when asked to do something he does not want to do and has occasionally used his teeth as part of that protest. He responds to redirection and clear, consistent handling.
Exercise: Currently restricted while his surgically repaired right front leg finishes healing. His activity has already been increased to several controlled 10–15 minute walks each day, and he is using the leg much more consistently. Follow-up X-rays are scheduled for November 17.
Best with: Someone who wants a close companion and is home much of the time. Murphy would be wonderful for a retired person or couple who wants a dog beside them on the couch, under the blankets and involved in everyday life.
Not ideal for: Someone away from home for long hours, an inexperienced dog owner, or a home that expects a very independent dog. His foster family also believes Murphy would prefer to be the only dog in the home, where he does not have to share his person or manage food around other dogs.
Energy level: Moderate, with young-dog/puppy tendencies. He is still recovering from orthopedic surgery, so we have not yet seen his completely unrestricted activity level. What we do know is that he is curious, quick, playful and enthusiastic about exploring.
Murphy has had quite a year. He first entered Columbia Animal Services in March after being surrendered by someone who had taken him in when his owner could no longer care for him. His original owner reclaimed him the following day. He returned to the shelter on September 25 after being hit by a car when his owner was unable to provide the veterinary treatment he needed.
The accident caused serious fractures of his right front leg, including fractures of the radius/ulna and olecranon. They were surgically repaired with plates and screws in October. He has been recovering beautifully in his foster home and is increasingly using the repaired leg. His surgical team planned follow-up radiographs at approximately six weeks to evaluate bone healing before completely releasing his activity restrictions.
House training: A work in progress, but Murphy is making real progress. He has started scratching at the front door to let his foster family know he wants to go out, which is a big step forward. When left for appointments, he has also successfully used pee pads in the house. He will still need consistency, frequent trips outside and

Colette is a puppy interrupted! This petite white poodle spent far too much of her early life confined, and now she's making up for lost time with enthusiasm, affection, and an absolute conviction that people are the most wonderful creatures on earth. She's playful, mischievous, endlessly loving, and determined to become somebody's heart dog!
Must have: A home that enjoys puppy antics and puppy joy. Colette is still learning and will need guidance and direction.
Exercise: Colette enjoys playing with other dogs and exploring her world. She needs daily exercise, opportunities for safe off-leash activity at least twice per week, and a family who will help her continue developing confidence and good manners.
Best with: Someone who wants a devoted companion and enjoys the enthusiasm of a young dog. Colette loves people and would be delighted to be the center of someone's world. Another friendly, playful dog would be a wonderful bonus, but we believe she could also thrive as an only dog with plenty of human companionship.
Not ideal for: A household with extremely active, boisterous children where the excitement might encourage Colette to become overly rambunctious herself. She also would not be a good match for someone expecting a fully trained, perfectly mannered adult dog. Colette is still learning!
Energy level: Medium. Colette loves to play and can be wonderfully silly, but she also knows how to settle down and enjoy quiet companionship. One of her favorite places is lying at her caregiver's feet in the kitchen, just being close to someone she loves.
Colette is a delightful young poodle with a huge capacity for love. She missed out on many of the experience's puppies should have, but she's eager to learn and ready to discover everything the world has to offer. What she wants most is a person to call her own.
Good with dogs: Wonderful! Colette enjoys dogs of all sizes and is especially gentle with smaller dogs. Her current best friend is Smokey, another young poodle, and the two love spending time together.
Good with kids: Colette has not lived with children in our care, but we believe gentle, respectful children could be a lovely match. Very active children might encourage her to become overly excited, so a calmer household would probably suit her better.
Cats: Colette had cats in her first foster home and had no issues with our feline friends.
Fun fact: Colette may be a standard poodle, but she's a petite one! At approximately 20 inches tall and 33 pounds, she's closer to moyen size, and we don't expect her to grow much more. Please request Colette's full medical history before applying.

Read more about Kilo Oct
Kilo is a sweet and loving Miniature Poodle who came to CPR after being surrendered to a shelter. We happened to meet him while picking up another dog and knew he deserved a chance at a better future.
Kilo was very nervous during his first day with us, but once he realized he was safe, he settled in beautifully. Today, he's an affectionate little guy who loves attention, adores sitting in laps, and would happily spend most of his day being loved on by his people.
Must have: adult‑only home, patient adopter, continued basic training and manners
Exercise: moderate - walks, playtime, and companionship
Best with: adults, respectful dog companions, someone home often
Not ideal for: homes with children or dogs that overwhelm other dogs
Energy level: medium - affectionate, playful, and people‑oriented
We were told through word of mouth that Kilo had allegedly bitten a child. We have no proof, documentation, or firsthand knowledge of what occurred, and this is the only information we were provided. Under our care, we have not observed any biting behavior. Kilo can become a little mouthy when he's excited and playing with people, and we suspect this may have contributed to what happened previously, but we simply do not know for certain. Because of the unknown history, Kilo is looking for a child‑free home. Kilo prefers people over dogs and would rather coexist than wrestle and play. He can be selective about his dog friends and doesn't enjoy dogs that constantly jump on him or invade his space. He loves attention, affection, and being close to his people.
Good with dogs: yes, with respectful dogs
Good with kids: no — adult‑only home recommended
Cats: unknown
Fun fact:
Kilo's favorite place is your lap. Once he trusts you, he'll happily curl up beside you and soak up every bit of attention you're willing to give.

Adopting a dog in Grover
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
