1. I-Hop

Puppy · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed · 45 mi from Rocky Mount

I-Hop is an adorable pup full joy and love - and he is waiting to spend forever with you! He absolutely adores being held and snuggled up close. He is the best of both worlds - sleeping on your shoulder (his favorite spot), but also always up for a playful game. He’s a big fan of stuffed animals and enjoys a good tug-of-war.Despite his small size, this guy is incredibly brave and doesn’t let his “chicken wing” leg hold him back! He’s even learned how to climb stairs that are bigger than he is!He still has that adorably wonderful puppy breath. Like any puppy, he is still learning that puppy teeth are for toys only, but he’s easily redirected.

Read more about I-Hop

He is working on house-training and what it means to potty outside, but he’s been using pads in his playpen consistently. He’s very food-motivated, which makes training a breeze!I-Hope is likely to grow into a small to medium-sized dog.If you’re looking for a sweet and unique, happy-go-lucky pup who’s ready to be your car co-pilot and sure to bring a lot of joy to your life - apply to meet I-Hop.

Peep would like to know why her forever family is taking so long. She has already practiced her adorable head tilts, perfected her tiny tongue blep, and reserved a spot on your couch. What more preparation could a girl possibly need?! Peep is a sweet, silly girl who loves people but can feel nervous when meeting unfamiliar dogs. 4. Amelia

Puppy · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / Bulldog / Mixed · 45 mi from Rocky Mount

Meet Amelia, One of Our Georgia Girls!Amelia is approximately 6 months old, weighs around 20 pounds, and is an American Pit Bull Terrier/Bulldog mix. She is one of our very special Georgia girls, and she's looking for a forever home alongside her sister and best friend, Bessie! If there's one thing you should know about Amelia, it's that this girl is DETERMINED! Amelia was born with significant physical abnormalities that affect her mobility, but she doesn't let that stop her from trying to get where she wants to go. She moves by pushing with her back legs and scooting her front half along the floor.

Read more about Amelia

Her front legs are splayed outward and provide very little support. She's not going to win any races, but she certainly gets an A for effort!Amelia is the more adventurous of the two sisters. She loves toys, enjoys playing tug-of-war with her people, and absolutely adores snuggling. At the end of the day, there's nothing better than being curled up on the couch with someone who loves her.A Little About Her Special NeedsAmelia and Bessie were born with significant mobility challenges. X-rays revealed abnormalities in the alignment of their skulls and spines that affect their ability to move normally. Their veterinarians cannot predict whether these abnormalities will affect their lifespans or lead to complications in the future. What we do know is that Amelia is currently comfortable, happy, and not experiencing pain. Her condition has remained stable while she's been in our care.Amelia can potty on her own and will scoot away afterward, but she cannot get to a pee pad independently, so she'll need help staying clean. She sometimes wears diapers. She eats kibble softened with water to make mealtimes easier. Most of her day is spent relaxing in a comfortable bed, playing with her toys, enjoying attention, and keeping her sister company. She needs help being carried or transported for longer distances. We're also exploring the possibility of a custom wheelchair to give her additional mobility.Amelia does well with other dogs and would likely enjoy a home with gentle, respectful children. She doesn't need a fenced yard or a particular type of home, just a safe environment, someone willing to accommodate her mobility needs, and plenty of love. Two Sisters, One Forever HomeAmelia and Bessie have been together their entire lives, and their bond is incredibly important. Because of their limited mobility, they provide companionship and comfort for each other throughout the day. They must be adopted together.PIPs Special Care AdoptionAmelia and Bessie are being offered through our PIPs Special Care Adoption program. There is no adoption fee for the girls, and PIPs will remain a lifelong partner in their care.Their adopter will be responsible for everyday expenses, including food, supplies, preventatives, routine vaccinations, and wellness visits. PIPs will help cover major medical needs related to their disabilities, with the specific arrangements discussed and agreed upon before adoption. The girls are current on their vaccinations. They are not spayed because of veterinary concerns regarding anesthesia and surgery, and their future surgical care will need to be discussed individually. We don't know what the future holds for Amelia and Bessie. They may have years ahead of them, or their medical conditions may eventually create challenges we cannot predict. What we do know is that they deserve a family who will love them for however long that may be.Amelia doesn't need a perfect home. She needs a patient, loving family willing to embrace her differences and give her the best life possible.Ready to adopt? pipsrescue.org or have questions - email Nicole.k@pipsrescue.orgWatch Amelia in Action!Amelia's determination as she navigates a doorway:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFxiVWRqPi4Amelia and Bessie enjoying a snack and snuggle time:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaMjQYIqh2U

5. Bessie

Puppy · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / Bulldog / Mixed · 45 mi from Rocky Mount

Meet Bessie, One of Our Georgia Girls!Bessie is approximately 6 months old, weighs around 20 pounds, and is an American Pit Bull Terrier/Bulldog mix. She's one half of our adorable Georgia girls duo, and she's looking for a forever family who will welcome both her and her sister, Amelia.Bessie is our sweet, snuggly girl who knows exactly how to let you know when she needs something! While Amelia is a little more adventurous, Bessie is perfectly content spending her days relaxing in her cozy bed, keeping her sister company, and soaking up affection from her people.Bessie absolutely loves to snuggle.

Read more about Bessie

She's happiest when she's comfortable, close to someone she loves, and getting plenty of attention.A Little About Her Special NeedsBessie was born with significant physical abnormalities that affect her mobility. Like her sister Amelia, her front legs are splayed outward and provide very little support. X-rays also revealed abnormalities in the alignment of her skull and spine.Bessie has more limited mobility than Amelia. She can push with her back legs and scoot herself along, but she moves slowly and generally needs help getting from place to place.Despite these challenges, Bessie is a happy, comfortable puppy who is not experiencing pain. Her condition has remained stable, although her veterinarians cannot predict whether her physical abnormalities will affect her lifespan or cause complications later in life.Bessie can potty on her own but cannot get to a pee pad independently, so she needs help staying clean. She's good at letting her people know when she needs assistance and will whine to get their attention. She eats dehydrated food prepared to make mealtimes easier.Bessie also has some sensitivity to certain sounds, particularly when the television or music first comes on or when other dogs become noisy. We've discovered that a little pair of earmuffs helps her settle, and once she adjusts to the background noise, she's usually just fine. Most of Bessie's day is spent relaxing with Amelia, enjoying affection, and snuggling with her people. She does well with other dogs and would likely be comfortable around gentle, respectful children. She doesn't require a fenced yard or a particular home layout, but she does need a safe environment, help with her mobility and hygiene, and someone who understands that her daily routine looks a little different from that of most dogs. Two Sisters, One Forever HomeBessie and Amelia absolutely adore each other. Because their mobility is so limited, having each other nearby provides companionship and comfort throughout the day. These girls have been together since birth, and we are committed to keeping them together. They must be adopted as a pair.PIPs Special Care AdoptionBessie and Amelia are being offered through our PIPs Special Care Adoption program. There is no adoption fee, and PIPs will remain a lifelong partner in their care.Their adopter will be responsible for everyday expenses, including food, supplies, preventatives, routine vaccinations, and wellness visits. They are not spayed because of veterinary concerns regarding anesthesia and surgery, and their future surgical care will need to be discussed individually. We cannot predict what the future holds for Bessie and Amelia. Their medical conditions may affect their lifespans, or they may surprise us all. Right now, they're happy puppies who enjoy life, love their people, and deserve the opportunity to be part of a family.Bessie isn't looking for someone to feel sorry for her. She's looking for someone who will love her, accommodate her needs, and appreciate all the wonderful things that make her special. And, of course, someone who has room in their heart for her sister, too!Ready to adopt? pipsrescue.org or have quesitons, email Nicole.k@pipsrescue.or

6. Bruno

Young · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed · 35 mi from Rocky Mount

(DOB 10/09/2025) Bruno is smart, playful, energetic, and eager to please. He loves attention and happily soaks up pets. He’s already house and crate-trained, can live happily without a fenced yard, and could make a great condo/apartment companion. He’d love a person who works from home and has time for plenty of walks, adventures, and snuggle breaks. His leash manners are still a work in progress, though; he sometimes thinks the walk is a race and his human is just trying to keep up! With patience, practice, and routine, he can keep working toward becoming a more polite walking partner.Bruno has been fine around cats and has done well around a big dog, although he hasn’t had enough close dog interactions to know how he’ll do with every canine friend.

Read more about Bruno

He tends to prefer women, but patient men can win him over, too. He can be protective of his favorite human, so proper introductions and a family willing to help him feel secure are important. Young kids aren’t Bruno’s jam, so he’s looking for an adults only home where he can relax and be the center of his people’s world. He also has some strong feelings about his food and treats. He is of the mindset what’s his is his. So, his new family will need to manage thoughtfully and work on positive, reward-based guidance. With Bruno, you’ve got yourself a loyal, loving, four-legged shadow! He’s a professional snuggler, enthusiastic belly-rub enthusiast, lap dog extraordinaire, and full-time supervisor of whatever his favorite human happens to be doing. He’ll even let you know when it’s bedtime, then snooze quietly in his crate all night. Now that’s a furry family member with big love to share! Give this little, smiley guy a chance to choose you, and you just might discover that the best things really do come in small packages! As part of Bruno’s $300 adoption fee, he will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet boy, you can email: Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org. 11. Penny Lane

Adult · Female · Dachshund / Mixed · 45 mi from Rocky Mount

Meet Penny: Professional Cuddler, Side-Eye Specialist & Wheelchair Queen Penny is a 4-year-old Dachshund mix with a big personality packed into one adorable little body. Penny has IVDD and is paralyzed in her back legs, but please don’t tell her she’s supposed to let that slow her down - she certainly didn’t get the memo.Penny maneuvers around the house incredibly well on her own and has a wheelchair that she LOVES for walks and adventures. She also rides beautifully in the car, making her the perfect little copilot for someone who wants a sidekick to tag along. When Penny first meets someone, she can be a little nervous and needs a moment to decide whether you’re worthy of joining her inner circle.

Read more about Penny Lane

Fortunately, the application process is pretty quick. Once she warms up, Penny is an affectionate little Stage 5 Clinger who wants nothing more than to be close to her people. Couch? She’s there. Bed? Obviously. Going to another room for 30 seconds? Penny would like to know why she wasn’t consulted.Because Penny loves her humans so much, her ideal home would be one where someone is around fairly often. She tolerates a crate when necessary, but if Penny were writing this profile herself, she would like it formally documented that she does not recommend crates and feels there are much better places to spend her time - preferably wherever you are. Other dogs? Yes! Penny does well with other dogs when given slow, structured introductions that allow her to feel safe and comfortable. Cats? Also yes. Penny currently lives with a household cat and mostly ignores him. He believes he runs the house, and Penny has apparently decided it isn’t worth the paperwork to challenge him.Because of her paralysis, Penny does not have control over when she urinates or has a bowel movement. She needs her bladder expressed, but she is very easy to express, and she and her foster family have her routine down to a science. Once you learn her schedule and care routine, it simply becomes part of the day. What Penny needs may look a little different from the average dog, but what she wants is incredibly simple: Her people nearby A comfy place to snuggle Walks in her wheels Car rides and adventures Patience while she gets to know you Someone who will love her exactly as she isPenny doesn’t know that she’s a “special needs dog.” She knows that she can get where she wants to go, that her wheelchair means ADVENTURE, and that humans were clearly invented for cuddling. If you’ve been looking for a loyal little shadow with a whole lot of personality, Penny might just be your girl.

18. Bo Peep

Puppy (5 months 16 days) · Female · German Shepherd Dog / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 45 mi from Rocky Mount

Meet Bo Peep from the Toy Story Litter! Bo Peep, also known as Breeze, is an 18 week old sweet, playful, high-energy 16-pound girl with a huge personality and an even bigger love for belly rubs. When she wants attention, she’ll walk right up to you with her ears tucked back, sit patiently, and the moment you reach down to pet her, she’ll roll onto her back and happily accept belly rubs for as long as you’re willing to give them!

Read more about Bo Peep

She loves to play and is great at entertaining herself with toys, but she also loves interactive play with her people and another dog. Bo Peep has lots of puppy energy, so she would do best with an active household, likely one with another dog, that can give her plenty of playtime, exercise, enrichment, and attention. She currently lives with children.

Bo Peep is doing very well with her training. She already knows “sit” and “down,” is crate trained, and sleeps comfortably in her crate through the night. Her potty training is also coming along nicely. She does most of her business outside and understands that outside is where she is supposed to go, although she can still have an occasional accident if she isn’t taken out on time. She has minimal experience with the leash and will definitely need work with that. These days, Bo Peep spends most of her time outside of a playpen. She’s actually quite talented at figuring out how to escape one, so a puppy-proofed area is definitely recommended! She’s still learning to stay by your side, so a 4-foot fence would be best for the little wanderer. Like many curious puppies, Bo Peep explores the world with her mouth. She loves picking things up and may try to swallow things she shouldn’t, so her new family will need to keep an eye on her and keep tempting objects out of reach. When she gets really excited during play, she can also become a little mouthy, but she has been making good progress as she learns appropriate play manners. Bo Peep loves to chew, so durable toys are her favorite. Soft plush toys don’t tend to survive very long around her, and because she may try to eat pieces she tears off, the foster home sticks with strong plush toys, chew toys, and other durable puppy-safe options. Bo Peep would be a wonderful match for someone looking for an affectionate, energetic, goofy puppy who wants to be part of everything you’re doing. Give her plenty of activity, structure, toys and, most importantly, belly rubs, and Bo Peep will be one very happy girl. If you’re ready to meet her, then please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at

She's also good at letting you know when someone has come to visit; announcing their arrival. For this reason, we think Jinx will pass on an apartment, condo or townhome. At just 15 pounds now, she's expected to grow into the perfect medium-sized companion, around 20–30 pounds, making her the ideal size for adventures, cuddles, and everything in between! If you're looking for a fun, loving puppy to grow up with your family, Jinx can't wait to meet youAs part of Jinxes' $325 adoption fee, she will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet girl, you can email: Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org. Snooki is also a total snuggle bug who would happily curl up with you at night, though she sleeps quietly and contently in her own space too.Snooki has lots of happy energy and is always excited to meet new friends, sometimes a little too excited! She’s currently working on her manners, including greeting others more calmly and keeping her enthusiasm in check. She can be a bit mouthy and is still learning that people aren’t chew toys, but she’s on a great path with consistent guidance and positive reinforcement.Snooki is building confidence with crate training, house training, and walking nicely on a leash. She can be a bit of an escape artist and door dasher, so she’ll need a watchful home committed to keeping her safe. She’s also a little unsure around men and finds car rides a bit scary right now, but with patience, structure, and reassurance, she’s continuing to grow more confident every day. Snooki is cat-friendly!At the end of the day, Snooki is all about love and connection. She wants to be close, sometimes very close, to her person, and she’s happiest when she’s right by your side (or in your lap!). If you’re looking for a fun-loving, affectionate, and devoted companion to grow with, Snooki might just be your perfect match. As part of Snooki’s $300 adoption fee, she will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. 27. Xena

Puppy · Female · Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 35 mi from Rocky Mount

(DOB 11/02/2025) Xena is a tiny warrior princess (and growing fast!), she is a professional toy enthusiast, and a full-time bundle of puppy chaos and love! This silly, happy girl is bursting with personality and is ready to take on the world (one squeaky toy at a time).Xena is looking for a loving, engaged home with lots and lots of time for training, play, exercise, and adventure. Positive-reinforcement training, daily walks, puppy playtime, and introductions (minimum weekly prefer daily) to new sights, sounds, and places are a must. If your schedule doesn’t allow for hands-on puppy life, Xena may not be the right match, but if you do have the time, she will reward you with endless joy and laughter.A fenced yard is required for romping and zoomies, and plenty of play and activity time with her family.

Read more about Xena

Speaking of which, Xena loves car rides and is always ready to hop in and tag along wherever life takes you. Because she’s still very young, she needs someone home for a good portion of the day to help with potty training, playtime, and outings; long stretches alone or crated just aren’t appropriate for her age.Classic puppy traits? Oh yes!! Xena checks all the boxes. She’s playful, happy, energetic, and completely obsessed with attention. Belly rubs? Yes please. Pets? Absolutely. Squeaker toys, chew toys, stuffed toys? All of them. At the end of a busy day, she sleeps in a cozy makeshift kennel with her siblings and recharges for tomorrow’s adventures.Young puppies are wonderfully adaptable and often take cues from the pets already in the home. For this reason, we do require at least one other playful and confident dog in the home for Xena to bond, play, learn, and grow up with! This social butterfly loves playing with puppy pals and definitely wants another playful dog in her forever home. Taking her to doggie day camp and/or puppy socialization classes would be great activities for her as well.Kitties and kiddos you ask??? With gentle introductions and a cat that is open to adjusting, puppies typically do very well living with feline friends. She is kid-friendly, but older kids are best since she’s teething and can jump or nip when excitement takes over. We definitely wouldn’t want her baby shark teeth meeting tiny fingers or accidentally knocking over a little one. Puppies are still learning about the world and can be bouncy, mouthy, and full of joyful energy. With loving adult supervision at all times, puppies and children can learn to grow together safely and happily. If you’ve got the time, energy, patience, devotion, and sense of humor required for puppy life, and you’re ready for a lifetime commitment then Xena just might be your paw-fect match. As part of Xena’s $325 adoption fee, she will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. In addition to the adoption fee, a $100 spay/neuter deposit and puppy spay/neuter agreement will also be required. The deposit will be returned once the puppy is altered. If you have questions about this sweet girl, you can email: Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org. If you wish to adopt Xena, you can complete an application online for her under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website: www.pawsforlifenc.org.

Bringing a dog home to your cat

Tell the rescue about your cat: their age and how they react to dogs. A dog who has lived calmly with one cat may still want to chase a cat that runs.

Introduce them slowly. Keep them apart for the first few days and swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior.

Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, like a high shelf or a room behind a baby gate, and keep the litter box and cat food out of the dog's way.
