4. Daisy

Senior (11 years 5 months) · Female · Pug / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 23 mi from Champion Heights

Two weeks of good foster care, and Daisy is improving big time. Gaining weight, hair is coming in nicely. Even her back legs are working better. Thank you Rose's Rescue for helping me to feel better!!
As always, Rose's Rescue is open to foster to adopt or permanent adoption of our animals
Hello world, my name is Daisy and I am a senior pug-chihuahua mix found stuck in a drainage pipe. If I could, I would tell you what happened to me, but I cannot. My rescuers say that someone had to place me in there as there was no other way I could have gotten in there. I am putting that all behind me now and moving forward.
I am 10-12 years old, weighing in at about 15lbs. My coat is a mess because of fleas, but things are much better now. I do have compressed discs in my spine, so my hind legs don't work as well as they should,
Still I am quite mobile and love to walk, investigate everything, nap, and of course eat! I am a loving and fun girl in need of a loving quiet home where I can lay in your lap for my final years.
They say my teeth are really bad and I am not spayed, whatever that is. Dental and spay are scheduled. I am looking forward to better teeth.
If you think you are the one that can give me the love and lap I need after such a traumatic experience, please fill out an online adoption application. I promise I will try to be a very good girl for you!

5. Dolly

Adult (5 years 1 month) · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 23 mi from Champion Heights

Dolly here. I'm a 5yr old sweet pit mix girl. I am a small pocket pit of 35 pounds. Everyone says how cute I am. I was living on the streets, eating out of a dumpster when some kind people took me in. I was very thin. You could see all of my ribs! They gave me baths, fed me, and found me a place with Rose's Rescue. My foster mom thinks I had a home at some point, because I took to living in the house quickly. She doesn't know how I ended up on the streets, because I'm such a nice girl. I can't tell her all that I've been through. I'd rather forget all that and look forward to my new life. I wake up every morning ready for a new adventure. I can turn anything into a game. My favorite game now is to grab the tarp my people use to rake leaves and drag it all over the yard. My foster mom says I may have a little too much exuberance but can you ever have too much of that? I don't think so. I also love to chase the basketball. One of these days, I'm going to get it all in my mouth! I love to be with my people. I follow my foster mom all around. When she sits down, I'm right next to her or preferably in her lap. I don't like being alone, so would prefer a home where my people were gone for only 4 hours at a time. I have a little insecurity, after being dumped. My foster mom says no young children under 10 please, because I get very excited around food. I will steal their cookies. I was half starved. I also get excited to see my people and jump up. We are working on that. I get along with the three other dogs in my foster home but sometimes I play kind of rough. I sound really growly, but as long as your dog understands that, it's just how I play. I'm a very smart girl who learns quickly. I'm housebroken and ready to learn more. I'm looking for a home of my own and a lap I can lay my head on. If you're looking for a loving companion to be your best friend, please give me a chance!

6. Bobby

Adult (3 years 1 month) · Male · Patterdale Terrier (Fell Terrier) / Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (long coat) · 23 mi from Champion Heights

Our
Bobby was found on the street, so matted that he had to be shaved to the skin, but also so emaciated, so weak, so starved, he could barely lift his head. He looked more like a carcass than a dog. His body scale score was a one. Usually when it’s that low, a dog’s organs start shutting down and they don’t survive. But not Bobby! He spent a week and a half at the vet, and he came to Rose’s Rescue the day he was released from their care.

Read more about Bobby

To say he’s made a remarkable recovery is an understatement! He gained weight steadily and before long, you could no longer see his ribs. His hair is coming back in so what once was bare skin is now covered with beautiful black fur.

Now Bobby is ready for new and much better adventures! He’s ready to chase balls and snuggle and soak up all the neck rubs he can get. He’s ready to patrol the years and keep it free from pesky critters. He’s ready to go for car rides and play with all the toys, and get as many treats as he can. He is ready to live his best life and will do so with gusto!

Bobby LOVES other dogs! He would love, love, love to have another canine pal (or more) to romp with. But be warned, he can already be high energy and very playful. If he teams up with another rascally pooch, it could mean crazy, over-the-top playtime!

Bobby is a crate-trained, and sleeps in a crate at night (in view of his foster mom’s bed) and is content in his crate while she is away.

What breed is Bobby? He very much looks like a Patterdale Terrier (rough/broken coat) in every way - size, body shape, ears, and even the unusual length of his tail. What’s more, he ACTS like that terrier breed 100%. But, that is not a breed that’s known to be found in this area, so with that in mind, it’s just a guess and frankly, we

have no idea what he is. In his picture from before he was shaved, he looked like a poodle, but his hair was so matted it was hard to say. His hair, so far, isn’t coming in curly but it’s too early to see that for sure. Maybe some schnauzer? For sure a lot of terrier in there, too, as that absolutely fits his personality.

If you are interested in adopting our miracle boy Bobby, go ahead and fill out our online application and we will see if you are a good match!

7. Agar

Adult (2 years 3 months) · Male · Rottweiler (short coat) · 23 mi from Champion Heights

I'm Agar a big handsome baby of a Block Head Rott, that is 2 and weighs in at 100 pounds. I should need about 10 more lbs, to get to my full weight. I have had a neglected 2 years. I was basically used to make puppies and kept outside. The person had a lot of dogs and sold me to a couple. I was covered in fleas and had lost some of my fur. The second couple kept me outside too. Now I am at the rescue, which I am thankful for. They gave me a good flea med and they died quickly. Then I had a medicated bath. Oh how good that felt. I have been neutered and vetted. I am in a big barn with my own couch and radio.

Read more about Agar

There is a door I can go outside into a kennel area. Then I get walks daily in a huge yard, for big me . I am very strong and need to learn to walk on a leash. I need overall training, because I have had none. I am too much, for the 70 year old lady I am with. A Rott lover that understands my breed, would be best to help me. A man would be great. I would love to hang out with the fellas in a barn or garage. I need a strong foster or adopter. I still think I'm a 10 pound puppy. I haven't really had a chance to bond to a person. If I could, I would be your best fan. I look forward to being in a home with someone to love me. It gets lonely out here. I don't expect much. I like being inside away from pesky bugs, but I do need a fenced yard to stretch my big body in. I am medium energy and entertain myself. I do love toys and balls. If you consider fostering me, you can start me in the right direction and get me ready for adoption, or keep yourself. What do you think, I will be your best bud. I'm ready to learn.

Adult (5 years 2 months) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 23 mi from Champion Heights

CAN YOU PUT A SMILE ON MS FREYA'S FACE!Freya here! One ear up and one ear down, I am a scruffy little terrier girl. Life has not been good to me in my 5 years, but things are looking up. I came to the rescue very very thin and anemic from flea infestation. I lost a lot of my beautiful blond hair across my back and tail but it is growing back now that I have good food, baths and a clean bed to sleep in at my foster home.
I was spayed on October 1st and came through that with flying colors. I'm caught up on my vaccinations and have finished my antibiotics for lyme disease disease. I have gained 4 lbs. since my rescue and am looking good.

There is a kitty here and a rabbit and a horse and a donkey. No problem with them and I would be fine with another dog as long as they mind their own beeswax!
I will be shy at first and it will take me a few days to warm up to you. Soon you will see a little tail wag from me and then we will be friends.
I'm looking for someone who wants to give a girl a low key home, would that be you?

10. Trixie

Adult (6 years 2 months) · Female · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (short coat) · 23 mi from Champion Heights

Hi my name is Trixie. I am a blue healer even though most of me is black. I have cute black and white healer markings on my feeet and chest and and face. I was found as a stray and no one came to claim me. I just don't understand why! I am a good girl! I am around 6 years old and weigh in at about 38 lbs, so not too big.
I know lots of things, sit, sit on button, stay, give me paw and when my mom give me more commands, I will show her what I got! I am even housebroken and crate trained. My foster mom gave me a bath and trimmed my nails. I am so shiny and soft. I really am low maintenance.

Read more about Trixie

I love to chase balls and fetch my stuffed toys. I am a velcro dog and follow my foster mom around the house, but once she is sitting, I am more than ready to relax. I am good with other dogs, but not cats, I love the chase too much. I prefer older children because I get excited when there are treats. My mom is teaching me being gentle is a good thing. I am looking for a family of my own that loves cuddle time and play time.
I did test positive for Lyme Disease and will be done with my antibiotics on September 28th. Dang nasty ticks!

11. Helen

Puppy (4 months 29 days) · Female · Doberman Pinscher / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (short coat) · 25 mi from Champion Heights

Helen is an adorable all natural 5-month-old female Doberman mix puppy who is ready to find her forever family.

Life didn't get off to the best start for Helen and her littermates. They were removed from their home by authorities due to poor living conditions, and the local shelter knew these puppies needed the help of a rescue. Doberman Underground stepped in and give them the chance they deserve.

Read more about Helen

Helen is thriving in her foster home. She's everything you would expect from a happy Doberman puppy—playful, curious, affectionate, energetic and full of personality! She loves exploring the world around her, enjoys playing with other dogs, is cat friendly, and is ready to shower her future family with love.

Dobermans are an intelligent, active working breed, and prior Doberman ownership experience is required. A canine companion in the home is ideal to help Helen continue building confidence and appropriate social skills. A physically fenced yard is preferred.

While puppies are undeniably adorable, they are also a significant commitment. They require patience, consistency, training, and plenty of time to grow into well-balanced adult dogs. All adopters are required to engage with a professional trainer to help set both puppy and family up for success. Spay/neuter contract required.

Before applying, please carefully consider whether you're ready for the time, energy, and dedication required to raise a puppy, as well as the lifelong commitment of the next 10–12 years. If you're prepared for the adventure, Helen is ready to reward you with a lifetime of love, laughter, and loyal companionship.

13. Gracie Lou

Senior (13 years 10 months) · Female · Cairn Terrier (medium coat) · 34 mi from Champion Heights

Meet Gracie Lou! Interesting fact about Gracie, she has never met a truck she couldn't take (at least in her mind!). She weighs 16 pounds, and she'll plant her feet and lunge at anything with wheels that dares to pass her and her human on a walk. As far as she's concerned, she's scared every single one of those bullies away!

She's a 13-year-old Cairn Terrier, a little chunky, and equal parts sweet and spicy. Gracie makes up her mind about people quickly, and you'll know pretty fast which list you're on. The vet and the groomer are on the wrong one. So is the cat. And half her foster siblings.

Read more about Gracie Lou

Gracie was very loved for a long time, but sadly, her person had to move into assisted living and Gracie couldn't make that journey with her. That's how she ended up with us, and if her terrier attitude is anything to go by, she has plenty of life left to live!

The basics:

Perfectly housebroken
Loves her walks, vehicles included
Has creaky knees, so a home without stairs would suit her best
Would rather be the only pet. She may tolerate others...or not. She's selective.
Will protest vet and grooming visits

Gracie is doing great for her age - some mild vision and hearing impairment, as expected. She would do best in a single-level home with someone who likes short daily walks, keeps a firm grip on the leash, and doesn't mind that she runs the place.

15. Honey

Adult (6 years 1 month) · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat) · 34 mi from Champion Heights

If you are looking for an incredibly sweet dog to add to your family, look no further. This 5 year old foster dog has easily won my heart over, and she'll do the same to yours. She is doing great with housetraining and crate training. I have left her unattended in the house and she does well given there's no yummy food on the counter. She loves toys, and usually has to grab one to take outside during potty/playtime. She loves to play fetch in the fenced in yard, but can easily jump over a 4ft fence, so I am asking for a 6 foot fence, or someone that loves outdoor activities. She loves curling up in a little ball on the couch or snuggling at bedtime.

She lives with another foster dog and does good. She's very receptive to commands, and does ok on the leash, but needs reinforced training to not pull. A special harness seems to greatly help with that! We do not know how she is with cats!!! If you would like to be considered to adopt this cute girl, please fill out our application at pawsandprayers.org, and I will be in touch after it has been reviewed!! Her adoption fee is $200, and includes her spay surgery, up to date vaccines, rabies, heartworm, flea and tick prevention, dewormer, microchip, and endless love from Sweet Honey!! Dinner time is her favorite part of the day, and a nice nap on the couch is something she enjoys as well. She is almost potty trained, but still has pee accidents in the house if I'm not paying attention.. She is slowly warming up to being crated, but will still bark and get quite upset for the most part. I do sit near the crate with yummy treats, and when she quiets down, she gets a treat, which really works. ( I'll keep working on this....)

17. Waffles

Young (1 year 6 months) · Male · Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 34 mi from Champion Heights

If you are in the market for a new amazing dog, look no further. This deliciously sweet boy is crate trained, house trained, potty trained, knows several commands such as sit, come, and down, and for sure would love to learn more if treats are involved. He's definitely a black lab (mix), because he has the webbed feet for swimming, but we don't even know if he's ever been able to swim!! Hint....Hint.... LOL Waffles can be a bit mouthy, and it likes he was never taught as a puppy, so we would love a kind, patient family that can guide him and teach him how to be better boy. So many great qualities though. He loves playing with toys and chasing balls, and we would be thrilled to find him a family that enjoys long walks in the neighborhood, or even an adventurous hike would be a blast for him. (Probably another first).

Adult (2 years 11 months) · Female · Corgi / Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie / Mixed (medium coat) · 34 mi from Champion Heights

Bonnie is a 3 year old, 30 pound sweetheart that is ready to wiggle her cute little self into your heart and home. She loves giving kisses and spending time cuddling with her foster mom, and getting belly rubs. When it's nice outside, she enjoys relaxing in the sun, so a (physical) fenced in yard would be wonderful. Bonnie would love to be the queen of the house, as she can be dog selective, but if she had to choose, she'd pick a cute guy (dog) to be roommates with. We would love for Bonnie to go to an active family that loves getting out for hikes, or long walks in the neighborhood. She's an amazing girl, and deserves an amazing family.

Chippy suffers from Megaesophagus. Megaesophagus is a condition in which the muscles of the esophagus fail. This means they can no longer properly move food or water downward, into the stomach. A normal esophagus works with a muscular, wave-like motion to propel food and water into the stomach. In this condition, the esophagus remains enlarged and the normal peristaltic movement does not occur, so food stays in the esophagus instead of moving into the stomach to be digested.

What types of foods do holistic vets recommend for dogs with megaesophagus? The diet for a pet with megaesophagus needs to be of a consistency that will easily move down through the esophagus without getting stuck. A “smoothie, moist porridge, or other soft consistency work well for many, though experimentation for the individual animal is often needed. Some dogs do best with food shaped into meatballs. A moist food may be blended in a blender or food processor to find a texture that works well for your pet. In lieu of 2 larger meals each day, it is recommended to feed 3-4 smaller meals. Both food and fluids need to be fed in an upright position and the animal should remain vertical between 15-30 minutes. A Bailey Chair is often used. Because high amounts of protein and fat require more stomach acid to digest, many experts recommend a diet lower in fats and protein and higher in carbs. This excess acid can cause erosion of the esophagus. The carbs help your pet maintain a good weight.

Treatment of megaesophagus in dogs: There have been reports that chiropractic treatment can be effective for some cases of megaesophagus. Acupuncture may also prove helpful in some cases as it stimulates the natural normal peristaltic activity.

Adopting a dog in Champion Heights

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
