1. Snoopy
Adult (5 years 4 months) · Male · Beagle (medium coat) · 39 mi from Jeromesville

Meet adorable Snoopy. Rescued from an overcrowded shelter where he was found as a stray. Snoopy is 5 years old and currently 33 pounds, although a bit chubby. He is dog friendly and has the great Beagle temperament. We are unsure about cats at this time although he spotted one on a walk and didn’t seem interested. Respectful older children shouldn’t be an issue. He rides well in the car and walks well on the leash, just be ready when he spots a squirrel. As usual for his breed, we do prefer a fenced yard. He is also house trained. Snoopy is neutered and up to date on all vaccines. His adoption fee is $225. If interested in Snoopy, please email hartmanshounds@gmail.com.

2. Scooter
Adult (1 year 7 months) · Male · Australian Shepherd / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (long coat) · 39 mi from Jeromesville

Meet Scooter. Rescued from a shelter in southern OH after his people surrendered him. Thus is a great dog and will make an awesome companion to an active family willing to exercise him. Scooter would love a canine companion, one that likes to play would be a bonus. He should go to a cat free home. He has been very friendly with everyone he has met but has kittens been around children since with us. His temperament seems good so older respectful children should fine. He rides like a dream in the car. A fenced yard is preferred. Scooter is house trained and crate trained. He is neutered and all his vetting is up to date. Scooter’s adoption fee is $225. 5. Cash
Adult (2 years) · Male · Pit Bull Terrier (short coat) · 43 mi from Jeromesville

Hi, I’m Cash!
I’m a 2-year-old blue nose pitbull with plenty of energy, a big heart, and very little understanding of personal pillow space. If your head is on it, mine can fit next to yours. That’s just cuddle math.
I love walks, running around, and spending time with my people. But tell me it’s time to relax, and I’m happy to settle down. After my morning routine, I usually pencil in a nap. My schedule is flexible… unless we’re talking about snacks.
Speaking of snacks, I’m smart, food motivated, and eager to learn. You bring the treats; I’ll bring my best “Who, me? The good boy?” face.

I love having other dogs around—even the little Chihuahua in my foster home likes me! Cats, though, get me a little too excited, and I will chase them. A home without cats would be the best fit unless my adopters can commit to careful introductions, management, and training.
I rarely bark, but when I do, let’s just say you won’t need a notification on your phone.
Mostly, I’m a sweet, affectionate love bug who wants a kind home, some fun adventures, and a spot beside you.
Adoption is $250 which includes his spay/neuter, age-appropriate vaccines, microchip and current monthly prevention. To fill out an application for this animal or a general application click HERE.

6. Peanut
Young (1 year 6 months) · Male · Dachshund / Mixed (medium coat) · 43 mi from Jeromesville

Peanut is a 21 lb, 1.5yr old Doxie mix of playful and cuddly. He is happiest sharing time with his people. Whether he’s snuggling with his foster sister or practicing his leash skills, he’s learning how wonderful life with a loving family can be.
He’s doing very well with leash training, has almost mastered the stairs, and sleeps through the night! He’s great with dogs, cats, men, and women, travels well in the car, and does well at the vet. He has not been tested with children.
Read more about Peanut
Peanut is still working on potty training and crate training. He wears his belly wrap comfortably, but he’s still learning to do his business outside. He can get a little jealous when sharing attention and will benefit from patient guidance as he continues learning.
He can get jealous when he is getting attention and another dog comes up for pets also. He can get growly. He has never acted further, but being an only dog in the home will solve that. He’s lacked attention and affection so long, and now he wants it all since he’s finally got it.
Looking for a walking buddy who also loves a good snuggle? Peanut might be your perfect autumn companion!
Adoption is $350 which includes his neuter, age-appropriate vaccines, microchip and current monthly prevention. To fill out an application for this animal or a general application click HERE.

7. Jelly
Young (7 months) · Male · Australian Shepherd / Dachshund / Mixed (medium coat) · 43 mi from Jeromesville

Meet Jelly—a little mix of this and that, with a whole lot of love!
Jelly is approximately 7 months old, weighs 20 pounds, and is said to be an Aussie/Doxie mix. His exact recipe may be a mystery, but the sweetness is undeniable!
He loves toys, wrestling with his foster sister, and snuggling up for kisses—which he happily returns. Loud noises can startle him, and being held and reassured helps him feel safe. He’s great with dogs, cats, men, and women, rides well in the car, and does well at the vet.
Read more about Jelly
Jelly needs a patient foster or adopter prepared for significant house-training challenges and anxiety with crating and separation. He needs more than a quick puppy refresher: a consistent routine, gentle guidance, and someone willing to help him work through these challenges. He wears a belly wrap comfortably, but he is not house-trained.
He’s also practicing leash walking and learning what’s appropriate to chew. Keep a chew toy nearby—sometimes this little guy needs help locating the approved merchandise! He has mastered the stairs, so there’s one accomplishment checked off his list. ✔️
Jelly has plenty of love to give. He needs someone who will celebrate his progress, support him through the hard parts, and help him feel secure.
Adoption is $350 which includes his neuter, age-appropriate vaccines, microchip and current monthly prevention. To fill out an application for this animal or a general application click HERE.

Introducing Truffles.
This sweet 3-year-old Wirehaired Terrier mix is a professional lap warmer with a heart full of love!
She's calm, crate trained, and gets along well with other dogs, but let's be real, her favorite place is curled up with her humans, soaking up all the cuddles she can get!
She's new to the rescue, so we're still getting to know her. She may need some housetraining or a refresher course as she settles into her new home. A little patience and consistency will go a long way.
She came into our care with some hair loss due to a lack of proper care, but she's recovering beautifully and looking better every day.
Truffles’ adoption fee is $400.00
Please complete a non-obligatory application at www.pawsandprayers.org

9. Gracie Lou
Senior (13 years 10 months) · Female · Cairn Terrier (medium coat) · 44 mi from Jeromesville

Meet Gracie Lou! Interesting fact about Gracie, she has never met a truck she couldn't take (at least in her mind!). She weighs 16 pounds, and she'll plant her feet and lunge at anything with wheels that dares to pass her and her human on a walk. As far as she's concerned, she's scared every single one of those bullies away!
She's a 13-year-old Cairn Terrier, a little chunky, and equal parts sweet and spicy. Gracie makes up her mind about people quickly, and you'll know pretty fast which list you're on. The vet and the groomer are on the wrong one. So is the cat. And half her foster siblings.
Read more about Gracie Lou
Gracie was very loved for a long time, but sadly, her person had to move into assisted living and Gracie couldn't make that journey with her. That's how she ended up with us, and if her terrier attitude is anything to go by, she has plenty of life left to live!
The basics:
Perfectly housebroken
Loves her walks, vehicles included
Has creaky knees, so a home without stairs would suit her best
Would rather be the only pet. She may tolerate others...or not. She's selective.
Will protest vet and grooming visits
Gracie is doing great for her age - some mild vision and hearing impairment, as expected. She would do best in a single-level home with someone who likes short daily walks, keeps a firm grip on the leash, and doesn't mind that she runs the place.

11. Honey
Adult (6 years 1 month) · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat) · 44 mi from Jeromesville

If you are looking for an incredibly sweet dog to add to your family, look no further. This 5 year old foster dog has easily won my heart over, and she'll do the same to yours. She is doing great with housetraining and crate training. I have left her unattended in the house and she does well given there's no yummy food on the counter. She loves toys, and usually has to grab one to take outside during potty/playtime. She loves to play fetch in the fenced in yard, but can easily jump over a 4ft fence, so I am asking for a 6 foot fence, or someone that loves outdoor activities. She loves curling up in a little ball on the couch or snuggling at bedtime.
Read more about Honey
She lives with another foster dog and does good. She's very receptive to commands, and does ok on the leash, but needs reinforced training to not pull. A special harness seems to greatly help with that! We do not know how she is with cats!!! If you would like to be considered to adopt this cute girl, please fill out our application at pawsandprayers.org, and I will be in touch after it has been reviewed!! Her adoption fee is $200, and includes her spay surgery, up to date vaccines, rabies, heartworm, flea and tick prevention, dewormer, microchip, and endless love from Sweet Honey!! in bed and doesn't make a peep all night long. She loves playing with toys, and will play fetch with a ball too. Dinner time is her favorite part of the day, and a nice nap on the couch is something she enjoys as well. She is almost potty trained, but still has pee accidents in the house if I'm not paying attention.. She is slowly warming up to being crated, but will still bark and get quite upset for the most part. I do sit near the crate with yummy treats, and when she quiets down, she gets a treat, which really works. ( I'll keep working on this....)
Please remember that adopting a smaller dog can be a 10-20 year commitment!! If you are interested in adopting Shivers, please go to pawsandprayers.org and fill out our non-obligatory application. Her adoption fee is $400, and includes spay, up to date vaccines, dewormer and flea/tick prevention, (she is heartworm negative), a microchip, and endless love from Shivers!

13. Waffles
Young (1 year 6 months) · Male · Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 44 mi from Jeromesville

If you are in the market for a new amazing dog, look no further. This deliciously sweet boy is crate trained, house trained, potty trained, knows several commands such as sit, come, and down, and for sure would love to learn more if treats are involved. He's definitely a black lab (mix), because he has the webbed feet for swimming, but we don't even know if he's ever been able to swim!! Hint....Hint.... LOL Waffles can be a bit mouthy, and it likes he was never taught as a puppy, so we would love a kind, patient family that can guide him and teach him how to be better boy. So many great qualities though. He loves playing with toys and chasing balls, and we would be thrilled to find him a family that enjoys long walks in the neighborhood, or even an adventurous hike would be a blast for him. (Probably another first).

14. Bonnie
Adult (2 years 11 months) · Female · Corgi / Shetland Sheepdog Sheltie / Mixed (medium coat) · 44 mi from Jeromesville

Bonnie is a 3 year old, 30 pound sweetheart that is ready to wiggle her cute little self into your heart and home. She loves giving kisses and spending time cuddling with her foster mom, and getting belly rubs. When it's nice outside, she enjoys relaxing in the sun, so a (physical) fenced in yard would be wonderful. Bonnie would love to be the queen of the house, as she can be dog selective, but if she had to choose, she'd pick a cute guy (dog) to be roommates with. We would love for Bonnie to go to an active family that loves getting out for hikes, or long walks in the neighborhood. She's an amazing girl, and deserves an amazing family.

Read more about Chippy Special Needs
Chippy suffers from Megaesophagus. Megaesophagus is a condition in which the muscles of the esophagus fail. This means they can no longer properly move food or water downward, into the stomach. A normal esophagus works with a muscular, wave-like motion to propel food and water into the stomach. In this condition, the esophagus remains enlarged and the normal peristaltic movement does not occur, so food stays in the esophagus instead of moving into the stomach to be digested.
What types of foods do holistic vets recommend for dogs with megaesophagus? The diet for a pet with megaesophagus needs to be of a consistency that will easily move down through the esophagus without getting stuck. A “smoothie, moist porridge, or other soft consistency work well for many, though experimentation for the individual animal is often needed. Some dogs do best with food shaped into meatballs. A moist food may be blended in a blender or food processor to find a texture that works well for your pet. In lieu of 2 larger meals each day, it is recommended to feed 3-4 smaller meals. Both food and fluids need to be fed in an upright position and the animal should remain vertical between 15-30 minutes. A Bailey Chair is often used. Because high amounts of protein and fat require more stomach acid to digest, many experts recommend a diet lower in fats and protein and higher in carbs. This excess acid can cause erosion of the esophagus. The carbs help your pet maintain a good weight.
Treatment of megaesophagus in dogs: There have been reports that chiropractic treatment can be effective for some cases of megaesophagus. Acupuncture may also prove helpful in some cases as it stimulates the natural normal peristaltic activity.

Adopting a dog in Jeromesville
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
