1. Sophie
Puppy (7 months) · Female · Pug / Mixed (short coat) · 23 mi from Huntingdon

Lewistown, PA Kennel License # 18167, Sophie is a young pug, possibly mixed with chihuahua, who came to ODAAT painfully skinny. With good care and love, she is now back to a healthy weight and full of joyful energy. She is a high‑activity girl who loves movement, car rides, and being part of whatever is happening. Sophie gets super wiggly when held and is often too excited to sit still, but that enthusiasm comes from a heart that is ready to bond deeply once she knows she is truly home. She would happily play with toys and needs help with potty training, especially after previously being kept in a crate for long hours.
Read more about Sophie
Surrendered by her owner, Sophie is discovering what real companionship feels like. She has every bit of potential to grow into a snuggly, devoted little shadow for the right family. She would thrive in a home that enjoys activity as much as she does and can help her channel her energy in positive, fun ways. With patience, structure, consistency and love, she will blossom into the wonderful companion she was always meant to be.

2. Bella
Adult (3 years 1 month) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Shar Pei / Mixed (medium coat) · 23 mi from Huntingdon

Lewistown, PA
Bella spent her days living on the streets alongside the homeless, and despite everything she has been through, she has remained a sweet, loving soul. She would do perfectly well as an only dog, but if she were to have dog siblings, a meet‑and‑greet would be required. Smaller dogs tend to be the best match for her, as she is not crazy about big dogs. Bella travels well, enjoys riding in the car, is crate trained, and likes toys. She is not high energy and has a calm, affectionate personality. Above all, she is a total love bug who will make a wonderful companion for someone ready to give her the stable, caring home she deserves.

3. Cosmo
Puppy (3 months 14 days) · Female · Caucasian Sheepdog (Caucasian Ovtcharka) (long coat) · 42 mi from Huntingdon

Please take the time to research the breed before considering fostering/adoption. Because of their immense size, strength, and strong guardian instincts, they are generally not recommended for first-time or novice owners. They require experienced handling, early socialization, and ongoing training throughout their lives.
Meet Cosmo...an Independent Spirit, Born Guardian
Read more about Cosmo
Personality: Cosmo is a spirited, adventurous, intelligent Caucasian Shepherd puppy with a big personality and natural guardian instincts. She absolutely loves having an older sister and brother! She has already learned so much from watching them, including manners and how to look after and protect the herd. She is observant, confident, curious, and always ready for her next adventure. This is a working guardian breed, and her protective instincts are already beginning to develop. She needs a family who understands that these traits are part of who she is and is prepared to guide them through consistent training, structure, and responsible socialization.
Cosmo is also very independent and already shows the self-assured nature of her breed. She likes to explore, observe, and figure things out for herself. She isn't just looking for someone to entertain her—she has a mind of her own and natural instincts that will need to be guided by someone who understands guardian breeds. Her independence is part of what makes her special, but it also means she'll need a patient, confident owner who can provide consistent boundaries without expecting a people-pleasing dog.
Favorite Activities: Running, exploring, playing, and going on wild adventures ALL DAY LONG! Cosmo loves having room to roam, following the animals, observing her surroundings, and learning from the older dogs. She enjoys being involved in everything happening around the homestead and is happiest when she has space to explore and a job to do. She is an energetic puppy who needs plenty of room, stimulation, and appropriate outlets for her natural instincts. A small yard or city lifestyle would not be a good fit for her.
Medical Issues: No known medical issues reported at this time.
What would be the best kind of home: Cosmo needs an experienced, committed home that understands and respects the Caucasian Shepherd breed. A rural property, farm, or homestead with substantial, secure fencing and plenty of room to roam would be ideal. She is accustomed to being around animals and developing her natural livestock guardian instincts, so a home that understands working guardian dogs would be best.
She would benefit from having confident, well-mannered canine companions who can help show her the ropes, although any resident dogs must be a good match for her as she matures. Her new family must be prepared to provide consistent boundaries, structured training, early and ongoing socialization, and responsible management of her developing protective instincts.
Food is a serious business for Cosmo! She has already shown resource-guarding tendencies, so her adopters must understand resource guarding and be willing to manage it safely and work on it through appropriate, positive training. She needs careful management around food and other valuable resources, not punishment or confrontational attempts to take things away.
Cosmo is adorable, playful, and full of adventure, but she is also growing into a powerful guardian breed with strong instincts. She is not a fit for an apartment, a small city yard, or a home unfamiliar with large livestock guardian breeds. She needs space, knowledgeable handling, and a family willing to help her grow into a confident, stable, well-managed adult dog.

4. Gamora
Puppy (3 months 29 days) · Female · Caucasian Sheepdog (Caucasian Ovtcharka) (long coat) · 42 mi from Huntingdon

Please take the time to research the breed before considering fostering/adoption. Because of their immense size, strength, and strong guardian instincts, they are generally not recommended for first-time or novice owners. They require experienced handling, early socialization, and ongoing training throughout their lives.
GAMORA HAS ENTERED THE CHAT… AND SHE’S HERE TO GUARD THE GALAXY!
Meet Gamora, the fluffy little force of nature who takes her name VERY seriously. She may look like an adorable teddy bear right now, but don't let those puppy eyes fool you… this girl is training for a lifetime position as Guardian of the Galaxy!
Read more about Gamora
Gamora is a Caucasian Shepherd puppy available for adoption through Mastiffs to Mutts, and she's looking for a special family ready to help her grow into the magnificent guardian she's meant to be.
Fair warning: That cute, fluffy puppy is going to grow into a VERY LARGE, VERY STRONG, VERY CONFIDENT, and VERY OPINIONATED dog. Think security system with fur, a big personality, a mouth full of teeth and absolutely no concept of personal space.
PERSONALITY: SMALL PUPPY, BIG GUARDIAN ENERGY
Gamora is adventurous, intelligent, confident, and already showing off those natural guardian instincts! She's the little sister who knows exactly which buttons to push on her big brothers… and pushes EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
She keeps her older brothers on their toes, loves a good wrestling session, and believes the universe revolves around her next adventure.
She's also a smart cookie! Gamora already knows:
Sit
Down
“Me”
Wait patiently for her food
Wait before exiting the house
Walks nicely on a leash
Who says a galaxy guardian can't have manners?!
FAVORITE ACTIVITIES:
Exploring the galaxy… or at least the campground!
Camping trips and outdoor adventures
Attending community events and checking out the world
Playing with her big brothers and keeping them humble
Learning new things and showing off those brains
Practicing her future job of keeping an eye on her surroundings
Gamora has already experienced camping trips and several community events, giving her valuable opportunities to experience new people, places, and situations. She's a curious girl with a whole world to discover!
HER FOREVER HOME: NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!
Here's where we get serious, Guardians.
The Caucasian Shepherd is a powerful livestock guardian breed developed to protect and watch over its territory. These dogs are often naturally protective, independent, strong-willed, and suspicious of unfamiliar people or animals. Those traits aren't flaws to train away — they're part of the breed.
Gamora needs a family who understands that the adorable puppy stage is temporary, but the guardian instincts are here to stay.
Her ideal forever home will include:
ROOM TO ROAM: A home with plenty of appropriate space and secure fencing to safely accommodate a giant guardian breed.
A COMMITMENT TO TRAINING: Gamora is already learning, and her education must continue with consistency, structure, clear boundaries, and positive, appropriate guidance.
EARLY & LIFELONG SOCIALIZATION: She needs continued, thoughtful exposure to different people, environments, sounds, and experiences. Socialization means helping her feel comfortable and behave appropriately around the world — not expecting her to love every stranger or every dog.
RESPECT FOR HER FUTURE SIZE & STRENGTH: This girl will grow into a powerful dog capable of easily overwhelming an inexperienced handler. Her family must be prepared to manage her strength responsibly and maintain safe, controlled interactions throughout her life.
BREED KNOWLEDGE & REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS: Gamora needs someone who appreciates a working guardian breed and understands that independence, territorial behavior, and protective instincts require responsible management — not wishful thinking.
A LIFETIME PROMISE: She needs a family who will guide her, advocate for her, and love her through puppy shenanigans, teen

7. Slim Jim
Adult (4 years 9 months) · Male · Great Dane / Cane Corso Mastiff / Mixed (short coat) · 42 mi from Huntingdon

Headline: Meet Slim Jim — Your Goofy, People‑Loving Velcro Sidekick!
Personality: Slim Jim is a goofy, people‑loving velcro dog who wants nothing more than to be close to his person. He follows you everywhere, curls himself into the tiniest ball imaginable, and can twist into hilarious pretzel‑like positions that keep you laughing daily. He’s full of affection, full of personality, and full of love.
He’s an energetic walker who can easily do five miles and still have a round of zoomies left in him, but once he’s had his fun, he becomes a true nap king — happiest snuggled up beside you or tucked into one of his signature curled‑up poses.
Read more about Slim Jim
Slim Jim does have separation anxiety and, at this stage, cannot be left alone. He thrives with someone who is home often and can give him the reassurance and structure he needs. He’s not able to tolerate a crate when left alone, but with patience and consistency, he has great potential to improve. For now, he needs a home where he won’t be left solo and can enjoy the comfort of being near his person.
Slim Jim is a loyal shadow, a silly companion, and a deeply affectionate dog who brings warmth, laughter, and devotion to every day. He’s looking for someone who wants a true sidekick — a dog who will adore them endlessly.
Favorite Activities: Slim Jim’s favorite things in life are wonderfully simple: long walks, cozy naps, and chewing on a good bone. He loves getting out for his daily strolls and can happily go for miles, taking in all the sights and smells. Once he’s had his exercise (and a round of zoomies), he’s all about settling in for a nap — preferably curled up in one of his signature tiny‑ball positions. When he’s awake and relaxing, a sturdy chew bone is his go‑to pastime. As long as he’s close to his person, Slim Jim is content, happy, and fully in his element.
Medical Issues: Slim Jim arrived in rescue extremely underweight, but with proper care and nutrition he has made a strong recovery. He is healthy, gaining steadily, and just needs to continue putting on a bit more weight. He has no ongoing medical issues and is thriving in foster care.
What would be the best kind of home: Slim Jim is looking for a patient, adult home that can offer structure, consistency, and plenty of companionship. Because he is a big, enthusiastic 75‑lb lap‑dog who still jumps when excited, he would do best in a home without young children; respectful kids 12+ may be appropriate. He is dog‑reactive and prefers to have his person all to himself, so he is best as an only dog, though a calm, respectful dog may be possible with careful introductions. Cats are unknown.
Slim Jim cannot be left alone at this time and needs someone who is home consistently. A two‑adult household would be ideal so he can share his affection and not become overly dependent on just one person. He loves all people and bonds quickly.
Before rescue, Slim Jim lived on the streets and had to survive on his own. In the last few months, he has been learning how to be a household dog — and despite his tough past, he shows no ill will toward humans. He is still worried that his next meal may not be guaranteed, so structure, predictable routines, and trust‑building are key to helping him feel secure.
He enjoys long walks and currently gets all his exercise on leash, but he would love a fenced yard to explore. A secure 6' fence is recommended, as he is agile and athletic. Although estimated to be around four years old, Slim Jim still has some puppy energy and enthusiasm. He is food‑motivated, eager to please, and will thrive with continued basic training to help him improve his manners (jumping, counter surfing, and leash reactivity).
Additional Comments: Slim Jim’s life has changed completely in just three months. After surviving on the streets and having to fend for himself, he is now learning how to be a loved, indoor family dog — and he is blossoming. Despite his tough past, he shows no ill will toward people and greets everyone wit

8. Gelo
Young (1 year) · Male · Great Dane (short coat) · 42 mi from Huntingdon

Medically? Gelo is all good. He just finished his antibiotics, so he's fresh, healthy, and ready to roll.
Above all, this dude is a total love bug. Pets, scratches, attention -- Gelo's here for all of it.
Gelo is new, so we're still. unlocking new levels of his personality, but early reviews say: 5 stars, would snuggle again.

9. Melvin
Young (1 year 3 months) · Male · Boerboel Mastiff (short coat) · 42 mi from Huntingdon

Melvin is a young Boerboel mix, estimated to be about 1 year old, who came to us as a stray. We don't know much about his past, but we are excited to help him findthe bright future he deserves.
Read more about Melvin
Melvin is a big, goofy boy with an even bigger heart. He absolutely loves other dogs, especially dogs his own size, and nothing makes him happier than a good game of chase or some rough-and-tumble wrestling with a canine friend. Because he's still young, he's full of energy and doesn't always realize just how big he is. One of Melvin's sweetest qualities is how quickly he bonds with his people. He's a true shadow dog who wants to be wherever you are. Whether you're making dinner, watching TV, or working around the house, you will find a big slobbery face following right behind you. He loves being part of the family and is happiest when he's included.
Melvin already has a great foundation for his new family. He's house-trained, crate-trained, and walks nicely on a leash, making the transition into his forever home that much easier. He still has plenty to learn, and needs someone who will teach him. He's been around children and has done well, though his size and enthusiastic play style mean he'll do best with a family that can help him continue learning good manners. Melvin is eager to please and will thrive with patient guidance, regular exercise, and lots of opportunities to play. Melvin should not be placed in a home with cats. He simply wants to play with them the same way he plays with big dogs, and because of his size and rough play style, it's just not safe for feline friends.
If you're looking for a loyal companion who will stick by your side, make you laugh with his oversized puppy antics, and happily cover you in a little slobber along the way, Melvin may be the perfect fit. He didn't get to choose how his story started, but he's more than ready for a family to help write the rest of it.

11. PA/Brittany
Adult (7 years 3 months) · Female · Brittany / Mixed (short coat) · 42 mi from Huntingdon

Meet Brittany a sweet, gentle, and adorable 7 year old female Brittany mix currently in a great foster home in Eastern PA, whose dreaming of a Forever Home!
Brittany came to NBRAN after a rural shelter in Tennessee tried unsuccessfully to find her owners.
Brittany is a gentle, easygoing girl who gets along wonderfully with adults, children, and other dogs. Cats are unknown. She is especially patient with young children and has a very submissive temperament. She loves being around her people and is happiest when she can curl up nearby for a nap or enjoy some pets and snuggles.
Unlike many Brittanys, Brittany is a relatively low-energy dog who doesn’t require a ton of exercise or activity to be content. She enjoys leisurely walks and spending time with her family, but is just as happy relaxing around the house. She hasn’t shown much interest in toys or chew bones, as she prefers human companionship instead.
Brittany is house trained, walks nicely on a leash, and sleeps soundly through the night in her crate. She has adjusted well to her foster family’s routine and is a wonderful companion around the house.
Like many rescue dogs, Brittany does have a few things she’s working on. She does experience separation anxiety and will need to be crated when left home alone. She also occasionally mouths when she gets excited. Her foster family has been working with her on this behavior, and she has already made good progress, although continued reinforcement will be important.
Brittany’s ideal forever home would be one where someone is home much of the day, such as a family with a work-from-home schedule or retirees looking for a loving companion. Because she thrives on being near her people and struggles with being left alone, she would not be the best fit for a household where everyone is away for long stretches each day.
Brittany has so much love to give and is truly a wonderful, gentle companion. If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate dog who will happily keep you company throughout the day, Brittany may be the perfect addition to your family!
Brittany is spayed, current on vaccines, heartworm negative, on prevention and microchipped. Additionally, like many older dogs, Brittany also has a small lipoma on her rear leg, which may need removed if it becomes bothersome to her. Brittany's adoption fee is 350.00 which will help NBRAN cover the vetting costs and other expenses associated with bringing Brits like Brittany back to good health and readying them for adoption.
If you’re ready to consider making Brittany part of your family, please submit an adoption application here: https://nbran.org/adopt/adoption-application Once your application is submitted the coordinator in the State where you reside will follow-up with you. Need to reach your State Coordinator, find their contact information here https://nbran.org/about/state-provincial-coordinators Don't live in PA or close by, No Problem! NBRAN also has a wonderful transport team willing to help bring Brits like Brittany to their new family, up to 1400 miles with the adoptive family being responsible for the last 100 miles, at no additional fee. 12. SC/Dobie
Young (11 months) · Male · Brittany / Mixed (medium coat) · 42 mi from Huntingdon

EASY KEEPER BESTIE! What does that mean?
THE DOBIE GREY
Allow me to explain what I mean.
Read more about SC/Dobie
Dobie is perfection when it comes to a content dog. Nearing 11 months old with an impeccable disposition and joy detected in his blood work results.
Dobie is one of the happiest dogs I’ve ever met. He doesn’t have an off switch because Dobie doesn’t really have an on switch. He’s content with simply being alive. Despite having endured and surviving whatever tragedy that took place to cause such harm to him, resulting in a full leg amputation, one would never know. Mentally, Dobie is rock solid. Balanced as balances should and could be for a dog. He’s stable, 100%.
Dobie really likes other dogs. I have big dogs. My smallest dog is an almost 12 year old 52lb Alpha Labrador mix. Largest dog is 153lb goofball English Mastiff. Dobie’s bestie here is my amazing larger than life 72lb Bulldog Terrier “Cow” wrecking ball cow puppy who often as possible steals Dobie’s toys.
Dobie is a complete charmer. He lives to love. He LOVES people. Walks like a grande champion on leash. Loves a potpourri of toys, is not destructive and car rides are winning lottery tickets. Dobie is a perfect copilot.
Dobie has a gentle mouth. He is not a grabber or a snapper. Dobie is very intelligent, easy to teach and his listeners work exceptionally well.
Dobie has one hesitation, slippery floors. Here Dobie has a sure “yellow brick road”. I have placed a path of nonslip runners for his path for when we go outside. Once outside Dobie moves about with complete confidence.
I do not have a cat or cats to test Dobie with. We do have loud obnoxious Hens to which Dobie does not even change his body language when those Hens start their noisy nonsense.
Secure fenced yard would be best for Dobie to wander about while out for potty and play. Living indoors with minimal steps would be best considering he’s a perma pirate sporting his Tripaw status. Dobie does not object to being carried when a situation requires him to be picked up. He will melt into arms for cuddles.
Dobie knows exactly how to behave in a kennel and crate (42 inch crate) and won’t object to having to be kenneled as long as there is a nonslip pad under his paws.
Dobie is happy and he is gentle. He is a complete easy and joy filled walk in the park type of dog. At 11 months old Dobie has a long life ahead and would greatly appreciate sharing life with kind and loving human(s) that desire an easy keeper. He would be a phenomenal vacation dog. I don’t believe Dobie should be expected to hike a mountain, run a 5k or walks for endless miles, but dog carts and strollers are Dobie approved and then some. Dobie loves just hanging around and loves the outdoors while out on visits to meet new humans.
Because Dobie is a Tripaw, I don’t believe a forever family with toddlers would be his ideal forever.
Dobie is up to date on all vaccinations, is neutered, and heartworm negative. He is current on his monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention. A clear fecal and a negative 4DX with good bloodwork are part of his health history.
33.12lbs of absolute loving joy.
Bonus -
Dobie is a perfect candidate as a therapy dog. He would love to visit those in need of tender loving joy. He wouldn’t object to being famous while trading some pets and extra love. Dobie’s adoption fee is $350. He is currently located in SC & can be transported up to 1400 miles via the NBRAN Canine Railroad. For more information, contact Karen Carr kecarr72@icloud.com.

Senior (10 years 3 months) · Male · Brittany (medium coat) · 42 mi from Huntingdon

Hey Everyone, I’m Bear a very handsome active and full of life 10 year old Liver & White neutered male searching for the right place to call Home Forever!
Right now, I’m enjoying the good life in a great foster home here in Northeast Ohio where I get to run and play with my 2 furry foster bros. I also get plenty of cuddles and lap time with my foster Mom, who thinks I’m just the smartest most wonderful boy around! Don’t be fooled by age either, as I’m no cough potato and act way younger then my age.
And speaking of smart, I know how to sit, stay, high five, down and go over. I’m a good boy and know not to destroy anything, even though I love toys especially the ones that squeak.

Car rides are another favorite of mine too, as they mean we are going on an adventure which I’m always up for.
Oh and people, I just adorable them even the two legged ones called kids. Cats on the other hand are still a little on the strange side for me. I do warm up to them but we need to get acquainted first. I get along great with other dogs and absolutely must have another dog, as well as, a physically fenced yard in my new home.
Oh and before I forget, I’m house/crate trained and have been checked from nose to tail so I’m up to date on all my vaccines, neutered, heartworm negative and micro-chipped too.
So now all that’s missing is a place for me to call home Forever, Is that your home? Are you a family with kids who like to going on adventures, already have a dog that needs a companion, and also have a fenced yard? Well then I just might be what you’re looking for.

Greetings, Humans! I'm Hank Jr!
Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Hank, a dashing 18-month-old French Brittany with movie-star looks, a comedian's timing, and ears expertly designed for maximum adorability.
At a lean and athletic 30 pounds, I'm the perfect size for adventures, couch cuddles, and showing off my zoomies in a fenced backyard. Everyone tells me I'm handsome, but I try to stay humble. (It's difficult when you're this cute.)

Life has been teaching me lots of new things. I didn't have much experience with grass before coming to my foster home, so I've been learning the fine art of outdoor potty etiquette. I'm almost completely house-trained and working hard toward earning my "100% Good Boy" certificate.
I can be a little shy when meeting new people or hearing loud noises. Think of me as a sensitive soul with a big heart. Once I trust you, you'll discover that I'm affectionate, silly, and always ready to make you laugh.
My résumé includes:
Professional leash walker
Excellent passenger on car rides
Certified Dog Treat Specialist
Milk-Bone Enthusiast
Non-destructive house guest
Expert snuggle recipient
I'd especially love a canine sibling to help me navigate this big exciting world. A fenced yard would be my dream playground, and a patient family willing to cheer me on as I continue building confidence would make me the happiest boy alive.
In return, I promise loyalty, laughter, companionship, and approximately one million loving looks per year.
So, what do you think? Could your family use a handsome little sidekick with a goofy grin and a heart of gold?

Senior (11 years 4 months) · Female · Brittany (short coat) · 42 mi from Huntingdon

Miss Bella is a lovely lady who is estimated to be between 10-12 years old weighing about 27lbs. Even though Bella is a senior, she does need her daily walk. She is currently walking 1-2 miles daily, after which she is content to sleep and relax the rest of the day. She is a love sponge and will happily accept your pets and if you’re lucky some couch cuddles. She is good with other dogs in the home and would do well with a playmate, but she would also love to be the apple of your eye having your undivided attention during her golden years.
Read more about UT/Bella
Bella is potty trained and has done well being left alone in the house with her dog sister. While she has good house manners overall, she is a bit of an opportunist and if there is unattended food on the table or counter, she will do a bit of counter surfing to go after it.
Like most Brittanys, Bella enjoys looking at and stalking birds and squirrels and needs a home with a yard that is secured by a 6 ft fence to patrol and chase small critters. She is not a jumpy dog and loves meeting new people and gets very excited playing with her humans.
Bella is an absolute sweetheart who melts the hearts of everyone she meets. If you’re looking for a golden girl who will love you to the moon and back, look no further than this bundle of joy.
Bella is spayed, current on her vaccinations and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $200 ($150.00 for a senior). If you are interested in making Bella a member of your family, and have the time, energy, and love to give her, please visit www.nbran.org and complete the online adoption application form under the Adopt tab. A phone interview, home visit, and vet check will be required as part of the approval process. For more information after completing an application, contact Patti at 801.641.4053. Please realize all our dogs are placed in the most appropriate home for their individual needs. We do not operate on a first come, first serve basis.

16. Nicolas
Adult (3 years 2 months) · Male · Havanese / Poodle (unknown type) / Mixed · 45 mi from Huntingdon

Age: 3 years
Size: 11 lbs
Estimated breed: Havanese/Poodle mix
Lives with: Dogs, cats, older kids
From my foster:
Nick is a sweet and active little dog. As soon as I met him, he started giving me kisses. He has adapted quickly in his foster home with much larger, 15-year-old dog, Sami, and two cats. He wants to get to know the female cat, but she denies him her friendship! He retreats to his crate when rejected by her. He is always curious and friendly with both pets.
Read more about Nicolas
Chew toys are important to him. He takes them all to his bed, along with the older dog’s worn-out stuffed animals. And you might find that he hoarded a sock in there! He likes small toys, including Kongs and hardened bones. Sometimes he runs circles around the house, throws and chases the Kong, even engages old Sami in a bit of fun chasing. He does object to her taking his bone, rightfully so. He explores the back yard more every day and likes to be outside. When he’s done playing and running, he naps!
Nick quickly learned to go for walks with and without the other dog and adapted well to wearing a harness.
He hasn’t been timid when meeting my young granddaughter and the neighbors: he went right up to them to be petted. He loves affection and gives it back. So far, he appears to be house trained, but it’s only been three days, as I write this, so no guarantees. He easily accepts being in his crate when I leave the house.
This little guy could be an only dog with people who will give him lots of attention and play with him, or he could live with other friendly dogs and cats. Children should probably be 10 years and older, due to his size.
From abandoned to treasured, Nicolas is ready for his new start! Our southern shelter partner witnessed Nicolas being left in a crate, inside a dog park in front of the shelter after hours. Thank goodness a volunteer was there to witness this happening, otherwise Nicolas would have spent the night terrified and alone in a crate outside. Fortunately, he was quickly secured and brought to the safety of a local foster home!
Nicolas is 3-years old and weighs around 11 lbs. He is a shy but friendly little guy who gets comfort from humans, dogs, and cats alike! In his SC foster home, he actually befriended an indoor pig and was often caught cuddling on a dog bed with his swine bestie. Nicolas has super soft fur and doesn't shed much, but we'll never promise that he's "hypoallergenic" since we don't know for sure what he's mixed with. Nicolas would love a home with a friendly dog or cat in residence to help show him the ropes and give him confidence, but he might do okay as the only dog too, as long as his humans are patient and give him time and space to flourish.
To adopt Nicolas, please apply on our website! https://www.nirvanaanimalrescue.org/adoption-application
Please note we cannot guarantee the age or breed of any of our dogs. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training.
Nicolas' adoption fee is $350, which covers his neuter, vaccines, 4dx test, and monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

17. Mackie
Adult (3 years) · Male · Chihuahua / Pomeranian / Mixed · 45 mi from Huntingdon

Age: 3 years
Size: 6.2 lbs
Estimated breed: Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix
Compatible with: Cats, small/gentle dogs
Meet Mackie, the chillest little guy! After being found as a stray in Kensington, he was taken to ACCT Philly. We're not quite sure how such a tiny little guy found himself alone in the big city of Philadelphia, but we're so glad he's safe with us now!
Read more about Mackie
Mackie is 3 years old and weighs 6 lbs. He is a super chill, easy-going little guy. He is shy at first with new people and dogs but makes friends after a few minutes! Like your typical chihuahua, he bonds quickly and fiercely to his people and is the stereotypical lap dog. Mackie has met cats and been unphased by them, even ignoring one who hissed loudly in his face. He's met several dogs and loves ones who are his size and on the gentle side like him! He's not a fan of the crate and would much rather be with you, touching you, on you, etc. He's done well with pottying outside but does mark inside, so he wears a belly band currently. Once he's neutered on Oct 27, this behavior should significantly decrease or cease entirely! Due to his small and delicate size, he will not be placed with children under 10 years old.
Mackie will be neutered on October 27 and ready to join his forever family then. To adopt Mackie, please apply on our website! https://www.nirvanaanimalrescue.org/adoption-application
Please note we cannot guarantee the age or breed of any of our dogs. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training.
Mackie's adoption fee is $350, which includes his neuter, vaccines, microchip, and monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

18. Paris
Adult (2 years 2 months) · Female · Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed · 45 mi from Huntingdon

Age: 2 years
Size: 9 lbs
Estimated breed: Chihuahua/Dachshund/Miniature Pinscher mix
Must have friendly resident dog in the home already
Paris entered the shelter in August along with 20 other dogs who were confiscated from a home. That same night, she gave birth to 4 tiny puppies! We quickly got her into foster care, where she diligently raised her puppies. Now that they have joined foster-to-adopt homes, it's Paris' turn to find a forever family!
Read more about Paris
Paris is around 2 years old, weighs 9 lbs, and is an estimated chihuahua/dachshund/miniature pinscher mix. She is a shy but always sweet girl who thrives when she's surrounded by other dogs, so she'll need a home with at least one other friendly dog! Once she warms up, get ready for a constant companion who demands pets and cuddles all the time! Paris loves giving kisses, getting belly rubs, and just generally being on, around, and near her people at all times. Once cuddle time is over, she'll make herself comfortable in her nesting dog bed, but be careful - she's a constant burrower and you'll often have to peel back multiple layers of blankets to find where she's hiding! Paris is comfortable in the crate overnight and when foster mom leaves the house, but she'd also be very happy to join you in bed if that's more your style. She's doing very well with house training, but sometimes she forgets to go when outside because she's too busy begging for your attention. She does well with frequent breaks and monitoring when she's outside to make sure she handles business!
Paris is in foster care with five other dogs of all different shapes and sizes. She does well with them all, and can often be found cuddling up to them on the couch or trying to invite play, even with the much larger pittie! Paris must be placed in a home with at least one friendly resident dog, but her ideal home would have at least two or three other dogs in it. She thrives in the comfort of a pack! Since she is shy, children must be aged 10 or up. We have not seen her with cats but can test her with them for an approved adopter.
Paris will be spayed on December 15, after which she'll be ready to join her own forever family.
To adopt Paris, please apply on our website! https://www.nirvanaanimalrescue.org/adoption-application
Please note we cannot guarantee the age or breed of any of our dogs. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training.
Paris' adoption fee is $350, which includes her spay, vaccines, microchip, and monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.

Age: 1 year
Size: 35 lbs
Estimated breed: Shepherd/Black mouth cur mix

Magpie brings the party anywhere she goes! This sweet, petite pup came from less than perfect circumstances. She was taken off a property in Alabama, and had some wounds and punctures on her legs. It's clear the first year of her life was anything but easy, but now that she's safe in foster care with us, we can promise the rest of her life is bright!
Read more about Magpie
Magpie is 1 year old and weighs a little less than 40 lbs. She's a spunky, happy girl who jumps into every new situation with confidence and energy! She made herself right at home in her foster home and integrated well with the two resident dogs there. She also shares her home with older children who are too sturdy to be knocked over by her puppy hops! As a young dog, Magpie is a clean slate, ready to absorb any type of training you'd like to do with her. With just a little bit of time and training, Magpie will make the perfect companion to the lucky person/people who adopt her.

Adopting a dog in Huntingdon
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
