1. Sadie
Senior (9 years 2 months) · Female · Golden Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 7 mi from Shrewsbury

NAME: Sadie
BREED: Golden Retriever Mix
BIRTHDAY: 2017
WEIGHT: 40lbs
ADOPTION FEE: $300
In a small town in Kosovo, a blind dog laid in the dirt. For one week she stayed, too afraid to move, in unimaginable pain from two damaged eyes. When help finally came, she was given a name and taken to a vet clinic, and Sadie's real life began.
Read more about Sadie
Upon arriving to us, Sadie was very nervous and shut down. She didn't want to eat or even go to the bathroom. However, she quickly learned to follow her foster sister outside, figured out that the cats rubbing on her were her friends, and began to trust that her foster mom would only feed and love her, not hurt her. She is very quiet, very house trained, and very sweet. Now that she's getting comfortable and feeling better post-eye removal, her goofy personality is starting to show! We can't run and play too much, since Sadie is also heartworm positive and currently undergoing treatment, but once she is out of the woods she's going to be such a fun dog to romp and play with! For now, we wrestle gently on the couch or in the yard, and she chases her tail when she gets a little bored. Overall Sadie is a very sweet, easy, and GOOD dog, and we are just happy we could help her!
***Sadie has been through a lot, and is almost completely blind. She can react (and has reacted) fearfully to new situations, and may bite if she feels threatened or trapped. It's obvious that she doesn't want to hurt anyone, but this is the only way she knows to defend herself. Her new family will need to be patient and go slow while she adjusts to yet another transition. A fenced yard is ideal and will make acclimation easier for her. Sadie will need to have daily eye drops for as long as her remaining eye is visual, but it's likely that she will be completely blind eventually and at that point the eye can be removed. This service will be covered by our rescue, at our vet or a similarly-priced clinic.

2. Graham
Adult (2 years 11 months) · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 20 mi from Shrewsbury

Available for Adoption
Read more about Graham
Meet Teddy Graham Graham is a 3yr old, 50lb, neutered male that was saved from a local high kill shelter. Graham is a super sweet boy who greatly enjoys life despite the rough start he has had since we’ve pulled him from the shelter where he arrived as a stray. Graham enjoys squeaky toys and chewing on bones in his foster home. He did well meeting the resident dog in his temporary foster home after slow introductions where they enjoyed playing chase in the yard together. Graham appears to be house broken when let out consistently and is working on his positive relationship with the crate. He was doing well with his temp foster and she could even leave him lose in the finished basement without him getting into or destroying anything. Graham basically seems like your average joe but he’s not lazy by any means. He would really like a home with a playmate to run around with, someone to take him on walks or play fetch outback before some snooze time on the catch for some tv for the evening; so nothing major but a little something.
Graham is microchipped, neutered, up to date on vaccines and preventatives with an adoption fee of $375. If you think this Teddy Graham would be the perfect furever member of your family please fill out our adoption application at: https://form.jotform.com/fairytailsrescuemd/dogpuppy-adoption-application

Puppy · Female · Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 20 mi from Shrewsbury

Oreo is an approximate 8 month old, 18 lb, spayed female mix found as a stray & never claimed , so her history is mostly unknown. She is the perfect catch and enjoys dogs, cats and kids! For still being what we consider a puppy, she is very well behaved other than stealing an occasional sneaker! She enjoys playing with other dogs, being with her people, and will snuggle once she’s gotten her puppy zoomies out!

4. Poptart
Young · Male · Dachshund / Spaniel / Mixed · 21 mi from Shrewsbury

11/1/2026 - Videos: Meet PopTart. PopTart likes giving kisses. MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hello, my name is PopTart. My owner could not take care of me so she asked CSAC to help find me a new home. The best home for me has a fenced yard so I can run off my energy, children to play with me, and other pets for me to play with. I am young and full of energy, but I do like to bark so no apartments. I am housetrained and can have run of house. I get along with kids of all ages, other dogs and cats. Right now, I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with the CSAC. They are checking me out and making sure I am healthy.

Hopefully, I will find my new family that will turn me into a happy, cherished family pet again. Hope to see you soon. For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation. 5. Rocky
Adult · Male · Maltese · 21 mi from Shrewsbury

MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Rocky, and I just arrived at CSAC. I was rescued from a puppy mill. I am a little timid because I have not been around a lot of people or lived in a home as a pet. I have spent my life in a barn, a shed or a cage. The CSAC volunteer says that I am happy and friendly. The best home for me has people who have dog experience who can help with my training and acclimating to the outside world. The people in my new home should be able to teach me the skills I need to be a great pet: walking on a lead, house training, and socializing. I will need time to trust people who want what is best for me and are not going to hurt me.

7. Bandit
5 Years · Male · Beagle · 21 mi from Shrewsbury

NOTE- BANDIT IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR AN INDIVIDUAL ASKING TO REHOME THEIR PET. PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.Bandit is a sweet, loving beagle boy who was rescued from a neglectful situation. He spent the majority of his young life in a crate or tied outside. He didn't get fed on a regular basis and it was whatever they threw at him. Bandit is very food motivated and sometimes will hide a piece of food. He is learning that he will be fed on a regular schedule every day and has been doing much better with always wanting to eat. Bandit is about 10 pounds overweight and needs to get more exercise and lose some weight.
Because Bandit didn't have much interaction with his people he developed separation anxiety. It has gotten better with time although he still wants to be where his person is. Bandit is good with school-aged children but hasn't been tested with babies/small children.
Bandit would do well with a loving, patient, beagle savvy person/home. He needs someone who isn't away from the house for long periods of time or someone who is able to take him along. He loves to go for walks and car rides. He's not fond of water. Bandit needs a fenced yard to be off leash. He's a barker so a home that wouldn't have to worry about having very close neighbors is required. We don't know how Bandit would do with cats or other dogs.

9. Dulcie
2 Years 1 Month · Female · English Coonhound · 21 mi from Shrewsbury

NOTE- DULCIE IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR ANOTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATION. PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.Howdy ya’ll! I’m Dulcie (pronounced Dull-see), otherwise known as the sweetest lil’ Southern thang this side of the Miss-is-sip! I’m so affectionate my foster mama says I’m a borderline pest because of it. I know she don’t really mean it, tho. She loves the dickens out of me! She says I’m a unique cross ‘tween a Southern Belle and a backwoods country gal. I have the poise and beauty of a Belle but also love to get down and dirty! Found a pile of cow poop? Let’s roll, baby! I seem to do well and enjoy going for rides, so we can cruise those back mountain roads in your 4x4 together with the windows down.
Read more about Dulcie
You drive, I’ll sniff! When I channel my inner Scarlet O’Hare, I'm mostly a fine young lady who minds her tongue (except when I get mad and frankly don’t give a damn and say so—but that doesn’t happen too often—I really only get mad at my foster brother sometimes and have to tell him off). So, I haven’t been very vocal thus far and mama says that’s a good thing ‘cause it’ll make it easier for someone who has neighbors nearby to adopt me.I like other dogs and enjoy a hearty play session or three a day but, even being the young whippersnapper I am, I am not bounce off the wall high energy. Mama says I can call myself crate trained because I put myself in a crate when I feel like chillin’ and when she goes away, she shuts the crate door and comes back later to find that I was a good girl while she was gone. I kind of like to hang out around mama so come in and go in a crate fairly often, unlike my foster brother who will stay outside until them cows comes home (and he don’t even roll in poop; what’s up with that?!) I’ve not had any potty accidents inside either since I got here! However, there is some red, white and blue Rebel in my blood; to this I must confess. My naughty claim to fame is that I like to pilfer soft things...like dirty laundry, blankets, and rolls of toilet paper (and holy moly do I have fun makin’ a mess with those things, yee haw!!!). Maybe one of these days it’ll make mama break out some more soft plushie toys for me -n- Dewey. One can never have too many toys, I always sez. I’ve heard of these things called cats but I don’t know as if I’ve ever seen one myself to have an opinion of them. I guess that’s about it about me except that mama says she thinks I might be a good starter hound. I had to ask her what that meant and she said basically, because hounds aren’t for everyone, and I seem to be such a good and easy one, that even folks with no prior hound experience can likely handle my little speckled butt because I’m such a love bug and seem eager to please (unless there’s toilet paper involved). So if I sound like the almost perfect, not quite an angel, lovely, charming and fun girl you’ve been looking for contact the Highland County Humane Society in Monterey, VA and plan us a meet-n-greet date; I’d love to make your acquaintance (and scope out your house for toilet paper---oops, maybe I shouldn’t say that part)!! Come take me home on some country roads; you won’t be disappointed!Dulcie is spayed, 46 lbs, sponsored and includes a microchip with lifetime registration. To inquire, please call 5404681575 or email info@highlandcountyhumanesociety.org 4dx SNAP heartworm test, DHLPP, Bordetella, and rabies and parasite control. Also included in the adoption are 30 days of Pet First Pet Insurance, a new lead and collar, and an adoption kit. My name is McFlurry, and I arrived at CSAC about a month ago from a shelter. I have had a tough start. I was found stray, and I had a broken back leg. Everyone was amazed that I was walking around on it. I had it for so long, the bones could not mend back together so the vet suggested amputating the leg. Unfortunately, I had to wait for surgery to remove the leg. I had an upper respiratory infection and a skin infection around the area where my surgery was going to take place.

Scrappy is one of eight puppies we obtained care of on 8/22/25. Six of his siblings have found furever homes, but he and his brother, Muttley, are still searching. He is a resilient and brave dog, having had a scar on his back and an umbilical hernia as a pup, which have both been corrected and proven no further complications. Scrappy loves to run, play, and explore, and would be a good companion for hiking trips and other outdoor activities. He is very food motivated (and prefers to eat alone) and could use some obedience/leash training paired with regular play time and exercise. He enjoys making friends with humans and dogs alike and would make a wonderful dog for an active family. Could he be the one for you?

Little Ann is an easy-going senior girl desperate to find a home to settle down in. She was recently surrendered with her father and best friend, Radar, due to an unfortunate change in her previous home's circumstances. While in an ideal world she would be adopted with her father, we believe she would do well on her own with enough attention and love. She can be shy at first but opens up quickly. She and Radar enjoy barking at wildlife and are very brave little dogs! She would do well in a home with or without a big yard but will require frequent potty breaks with her little bladder!

Read more about Isabelle
Phone: (540) 862-1756Isabelle is our oldest rescue and has been waiting for a home since 5/20/2025. In puppyhood, she was transferred into our care from another shelter and was adopted quite early. She was returned as a 1 year old, and after months of waiting, was adopted out again. In her last home, she served as protector of her female owner while her male owner was away on business, and got lots of TLC and training. While she was such a good girl at that home, her owners went through a divorce, and she was returned back to us last May at no fault of her own. Isabelle misses having a big yard to play in and a family to snuggle. She is a very good girl with manners and obedience and while she is near and dear to our hearts, the kennel life is not what's best for her. She would do best in a home with older children as she does not like her belly or booty touched (unless she gets booty scratches- she LOVES those), and does well with young, submissive canine companions (or as an only dog). She would benefit from a large yard to run in as she has loads of energy. We recommend a fenced in yard or a training collar, as that is what her previous owner used. Isabelle loves all people, but is especially a girl's girl. We are PA Caring for K-9's, an all-breed dog rescue that is solely run by volunteers. Most of our dogs are rescued from high kill shelters in the South. If the dog is posted, they are still available! Once arriving, these dogs enter foster homes, as we do not have a shelter. We cannot adopt out dogs to a home with dogs that are not fixed or up to date on shots. If interested in adopting, please submit an application online at www.pack9rescue.org. Our adoption fee for altered dogs is $350 and goes directly to saving the lives of more dogs. Our adoption fee for unaltered puppies will be $400 which includes a refundable $50 deposit upon receipt of spay/neuter certificate. Learn more about adopting from us or volunteering for us at www.pack9rescue.org or check us out on Facebook for more information and a complete list of dogs available for adoption. https://www.facebook.com/PaCaringForK9s/

20. Sadie
Senior (10 years) · Female · Shih Tzu / Mixed · 23 mi from Shrewsbury

Sadie the SweetPea is full of love and wants to tell you her story
After surviving years of neglect, look at her smile! She was rescued in Georgia where she finally received veterinary care and lots of TLC. This brave girl had to have most of her teeth removed because of the neglect. She is absolutely loving her yummy soft food and treats! Because of severe matting, she was shaved of all her hair and look at how soft and beautiful she is!
Read more about Sadie
Sadie is the most perfect lady: Her most favorite spot is on a soft pillow, bed or snuggled in a blanket. She is so laid-back and only wants to follow her human and look out the door to see what is up in the neighborhood. Walks are the highlight of her day!
Sadie gets along with dogs of all sizes and cats. She is spayed and current on vaccines and preventatives. Sadie is a 10 year old Shih Tzu mix; still needing to gain weight, Sadie loves her afternoon snacks, especially peanut butter balls!
This precious girl will wiggle her way into your heart in a minute, what are you waiting for? Come meet her in New Cumberland, PA.

Adopting a dog in Shrewsbury
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
