5. Wilbur
Young (9 months) · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 82 mi from Columbia

Wilbur is a very sweet little boy, who is working on getting his peach fuzz back. He is very smart, though he gets so excited when he's learning new commands and tasks that he sometimes has trouble paying attention. Think a soccer player who runs with his shirt over his head after scoring a goal! He will wag his tail with such ferocity that his entire body curves into a circle in each direction and his tail thwacks his head. He stays close to his handler on walks, is lovely on a leash and is incredibly focused when running. If you want a companion for some miles, this little dude will be a fantastic one! Wonderful with dogs, curious but respectful of cats. We're working on manners with jumping and mouthing, but very treat and toy motivated.

Meet Rusty, a handsome 4-year-old border collie mixed with what we think is Great Dane. Rusty's world changed suddenly when his owner passed away, and it took some time for him to settle into a new environment. Now that he's more comfortable, he's beginning to let his true personality come out through zoomies, initiating play with other dogs and showing interest in toys. And treats? Yes, please!
Rusty is still a bit on the nervous side and takes his time sizing you up. But once he decides you're okay, he wants to be close to you, especially outdoors. He'll get right down to business when he goes out, then runs back to check in with you or back to the door.
Read more about Rusty
His need for connection is one of his most endearing qualities, especially when he comes up and gives you a "hug."
Rusty is calm in the house and reliably house trained. He'll make a great companion for someone who likes a larger dog that doesn't demand a lot of exercise and wants to stick by your side.

Read more about Miller
He gets along great with other dogs but is not a good fit for a home with cats. Miller would also do best in a home with a securely fenced yard, where he can safely run, play, and enjoy spending time outdoors.
One of Miller's favorite things is meeting new people, he's always excited to make a new friend! He also rides great in the car, making him a wonderful companion for adventures or errands.
Before coming to us, Miller was passed from home to home and didn't have the stability every dog deserves. Despite that, he has settled in beautifully with routine and consistency in his foster home.
Miller does have some resource guarding tendencies, primarily with food and high-value items like bones. Because of this, he will need an experienced adopter who understands how to manage these behaviors and continue setting him up for success. We also recommend an adult-only home with no children.
Miller is proof that structure, patience, and love can help a dog thrive. In the right home, he'll reward his family with endless loyalty, affection, and companionship. If you're looking for a devoted best friend and have the experience to help him continue to succeed, Miller may be the perfect match for you.
He is neutered, heartworm negative, and current on vaccinations and preventatives.
If interested in adding this sweet boy to your family, please message for an adoption application!

Read more about Buffy Neal
Here's Your Quick Peek:
Buffy is a happy-go-lucky poodley girl. We do not have DNA so I checked the "mixed" box but she looks, moves and acts like a purebred poodle. She was found as a stray but hasn't let her rough start dull her adventurous spirit. Friendly with people, playful with dogs, and always ready for the next adventure, Buffy is looking for an active family that can keep up with her energy and give her a safe place to explore.
Please Note: Carolina Poodle Rescue requires a meet and greet where everyone living in the home - all people and all dogs - will come to our farm to meet dogs. This is non-negotiable. Please do not apply if you and your family can't make this commitment.
Please note - if you want to skip the text and go straight to the application, you can find the link here: www.carolinapoodlerescue.org/application/
Must have: Time. Buffy wants people more than anything else. After a hard day of play and fun, she can always be found lounging on the couch, enjoying her evening. At night, you'll find her curled on the bed. Sleeping anywhere else is NOT in Buffy's play book. She also loves the company of other dogs and plays nonstop with her foster siblings both large and small.
Exercise: Daily walks, playtime, and opportunities to run and explore. Buffy thrives when she has an outlet for her energy and lots of love from her people. Buffy is athletic and can clear fences that stop most dogs (so far she has handily handled 4' and 5' fences). Because of that, we are not requiring a fence but without a fence, you must have a plan in place for Buffy to run and romp off leash at least 3 times per week and lots of other activities when she is on leash. Are you a distance runner or power walker (5 miles or more per day)? Do you have plans for day care for Buffy? Either of those will work. Just remember, this girl needs to move.
Best with: Active families and, outdoor enthusiasts who think dogs should be part of everything. Another playful dog is ideal but not required but do plan for socialization days at least twice per week. Buffy enjoys playmates.
Not ideal for: Apartments, homes with short fencing that want to leave a dog outside unattended, those who work away from home all day or families looking for a couch potato.
Energy level: High.
Buffy is an affectionate, confident poodle (doodle?) who loves people, enjoys other dogs, and approaches life with enthusiasm. She'll make a wonderful companion for a family or a person or couple ready for adventures and committed to keeping her safely contained. Please note, we have not seen Buffy with children. My only concern with kids and Buffy is I am confident if they are rambunctious, she is going to be right in the middle with them.
Good with dogs: Yes. Buffy enjoys other dogs of all sizes and has a playful play style. Please note, Buffy is NOT a follower dog. She will be the leader in a group of dogs.
Good with kids: Unknown, but her caregiver feels she would likely do well with respectful children.
Cats: Unknown and honestly probably not although we can test. She has a good prey drive, typical for the breed.
Fun fact: Buffy is having a ball living on a farm. And rolling in horse poop. Yes she does! This girl does dirty dog farm dog and loves it. Note - Buffy was up for adoption but she scraped her foot doing one of her zoomie tricks. We removed her listing to give her time to

Adopting a large dog in Columbia
Large dogs need room to stretch out and plenty of exercise: at least one good walk a day, and a secure yard is a bonus. Check your lease too, as some landlords limit the size or breed of dog.
Start training from day one. A big dog who walks nicely on a leash and doesn't jump up is a pleasure to live with, and many rescues can recommend a local trainer.
