2. Belle

Puppy · Female · Staffordshire Bull Terrier (short coat) · 41 mi from Baneberry

Hi, I'm Belle! I was born on May 25th, one of six puppies in my litter. I don't remember much from those early days, except that nobody was really watching out for us. My brothers and sisters and I kept wandering into the road — it was scary, and dangerous, and we didn't know any better. Some kind neighborhood kids started keeping an eye on us, making sure we stayed safe. And then one day, a neighbor with a good heart took all of us in. I don't know where I'd be without that kindness. Now let me tell you who I am, because I think I'm pretty special, in my own little way. Not only am I a pretty little girl with speckles on my feet and chest, I'm a watcher.

Read more about Belle

I like to sit somewhere with a good view and take it all in — the birds, the wind in the grass, whatever's happening down the street. Nothing gets past me. I have a feeling I'd make a wonderful watchdog someday, keeping a careful eye over the people and things I love most. But don't let my quiet, watchful side fool you — the second there's a chance to play, I am pure joy on four legs. Playful, outgoing, sweet all the way through.I adore my toys more than almost anything. Give me something to carry around, chew on, or toss in the air, and I am the happiest girl alive. And when playtime's over? I want nothing more than to curl up close and soak in all the attention and cuddles you'll give me. I love deeply, and I love easily, and I've got so much of it saved up just waiting for the right person. My dream — my whole dream — is a home with a fenced-in yard where I can watch over my little corner of the world, play until I'm worn out, and then collapse into someone's lap for all the love and attention I could ever want.I don't want to wait much longer for that dream to come true. I've already watched some of my brothers and sisters find their families, and every time, my heart gets a little more hopeful and a little more impatient. Please — if you have room for a watchful, playful, endlessly loving girl like me, I need you to find me soon.I promise I'll be worth the wait, and worth every bit of the love you give me.Love,Belle Fenced in yard is required.***When puppies and kittens are adopted before being fixed, they MUST be adopted in East Tennessee. If you would like to meet your new best friend, contact the Adoption Coordinator at info@almosthometn.org or 865-236-0830. 3. Buddy

Young · Male · Staffordshire Bull Terrier (short coat) · 41 mi from Baneberry

URGENT: Buddy Needs a Foster Home RIGHT NOW
URGENT: Buddy Needs a Foster Home RIGHT NOW or Forever Home
Hi. I'm Buddy.
I have something to tell you, and I need you to really hear it, because my story has a brand-new chapter.
But first, let me tell you how it started. I did something unforgivable. Something so bad that the people who were supposed to love me forever decided I wasn't worth keeping anymore.
I grew up.
That's it. That was my crime. I was born back in early 2023 and adopted as a wide-eyed puppy who thought he'd finally found his people, his forever family. And for a while, I believed it.

Read more about Buddy

But puppies don't stay puppies, and somewhere along the way, I stopped being cute and convenient and started being... unwanted.
I want you to know the truth, because I think somebody should. My nails grew long because nobody took me anywhere to have them trimmed. My meals weren't good ones, or regular ones. Most of my life happened inside a crate, a crate that didn't even have a bottom to it. I didn't do anything to deserve that. No dog does. I promise you, with everything in me, that I did nothing wrong except get a little bigger and a little older.
But guess what? Somebody finally showed up for me.
For the first time in a long time, I've got someone in my corner. I'm out of that crate and away from the home that forgot about me. And then, oh, then came the best part. I got the full spa treatment: brushed, bathed, and beautified from nose to tail. I'm not trying to brag, but... man, am I handsome! Wait until you see me. I hold my head a little higher now.
And here's the thing: through all of it, I never stopped being me. I'm still the sweetest, most loving boy you'll ever meet. I love everyone I meet. I've got an eternal good nature in me, the kind that doesn't quit no matter what. Even on the hard days, I was a happy boy. Now that life is getting better, just imagine how much happiness I've got to give.
Here's what I still dream about: a yard with a fence, just so I can run, really run, the way dogs are supposed to. Somebody to scratch behind my ears and mean it. A soft place to sleep that's all mine. Attention. Cuddles. A home where I'm allowed to just be a good dog, because that's all I've ever tried to be.I've waited my whole life for my turn. I think it's finally my time to shine.
Will you be my forever family? Will you show me what real love looks like, for keeps this time? Because I promise you: the second you do, I'll show you right back, without hesitation, without holding anything back. That's just who I am.I'm ready. Are you?
Love,Buddy
I've started being brought up on my vetting.

4. Harley

Young · Female · Staffordshire Bull Terrier (short coat) · 41 mi from Baneberry

Hi, I'm Harley.
I'm 4 years old, and I never thought I'd be the one looking for a new family. But here I am, and I'm hoping you'll take a moment to get to know me.
Just a little while ago, my whole world was two acres to run and play on. I had space to be a dog — to explore, to zoom around, to just be free. But things changed. My family had to move into a two-bedroom apartment, and suddenly there was no more room to run. It was hard on all of us, especially my best friend, who's older now and doesn't have the patience he used to. I understand. He deserves peace and quiet in his golden years, and I deserve a home where I can be my playful self without stressing him out.

Read more about Harley

It's nobody's fault. It's just what happens when a young pup and an old soul try to share a space that's become too small..
I've been loved since I was a tiny puppy — I know how to be someone's whole heart, because I already was. I LOVE people, especially kids. I'm a total cuddler and a snuggler. I love to sleep with my people. I walk nicely on a leash, I light up for car rides, and there's nothing I love more than a good hike with someone by my side.
A fenced in yard where I could run and play, even just a little bit, I would be the happiest girl in the world.! I think what I want most, more than anything, is just to belong somewhere again — somewhere I can run and play without anyone getting tired of me. I would be thrilled to be your one and only so that I can hog all of your attention.
I should be honest about everything, because I want my next family to really know me. My skin can be sensitive — grass, bugs, the changing seasons, all of it can set me off, and I can't have chicken. I've found that lamb-based food helps me feel my best, and right now I eat Pure Balance Lamb, Pea & Rice. I get a Cytopoint allergy shot every 4 to 8 weeks. Every once in a while, my skin or ears might flare up.
I'm spayed and fully up to date on my shots. I want to be somebody's whole world again. I know I can be given a chance.
I'm not asking for two acres. I'm just asking for a family who wants me the way I want them — completely, and with my whole heart. I don't have much time. If you can help, please reach out today. If that could be you, please reach out. I'd love the chance to show you how much love I have to give.
If that could be you, please reach out. I'd love the chance to show you how much love I have to give.
Love,Harley

5. Hazelnut

Young (2 years) · Female · Unknown breed · 47 mi from Baneberry

In a nutshell, Hazelnut is a kind-hearted shepherd girl. Not only does she have a beautiful, silky coat, but she absolutely melts into pets and has the gentlest, soulful facial expressions. One look into her dreamy eyes and you'll want to curl up beside her and spend the whole day together!

Read more about Hazelnut

When Hazelnut first arrived at the BRC, she was very worried about the world and its scary sights and sounds. Everyday unfamiliar things were terrifying for her. With lots of patience, support and treats, she was able to move quickly through her treatment here — she even became a helper dog for other dogs in treatment! In her time with us, she has blossomed into a resilient young dog, and she is ready to find a home that will help her continue to become more comfortable with the world!

Hazelnut is an active dog who thrives when she gets regular activity. She finds lots of joy in things like exploring on walks, playing with other dogs, zooming around fenced-in areas, pets from familiar people and using her big brain for training games! Although she’s an active girl, she also has a pleasantly relaxed side. She has been able to settle nicely for “office time” with our staff, where she’s happy to curl up on the couch, snooze and just hang out.

When it comes to other dogs, Hazelnut is what we call a true social butterfly. She enjoys interacting with other dogs and does well matching their energy. She’s down for some high-energy chase games with fellow playful pups, but she is also down to just coexist with mellower dogs. While having other dogs nearby helps boost her confidence in new situations, Hazelnut has shown that she’s capable of forming relationships with people on her own, too.

If you’re looking for a sweet and playful companion, Hazelnut would love to meet you! Click the “Submit an Adoption Inquiry” button below to learn more about Hazelnut!

6. Baby Stripes

2 Years · Female · Unknown breed · 47 mi from Baneberry

Introducing Baby Stripes! Baby Stripes is a playful and cuddly girl who finds joy in socializing with other dogs, cozying up with a nice blanket and snacking on a chew stick. She recently spent time in a foster home where she was described as “cartoon-like” when she played with the resident dogs and people — and we could not agree more!

Read more about Baby Stripes

Baby Stripes was originally found as a stray and came into our care with fear of new people, new situations and leash walking. She has made a lot of progress in her time here and has graduated into a resilient, companion pup who is ready to find a home of her own. Baby Stripes is seeking a home where she can continue to grow her confidence and build resilience.

Baby Stripes truly loves other dogs and has made many dog friends, both here at the BRC and with the resident dogs in her foster home. She enjoys some light wrestling and chase games with her pals and has even been a helper dog for our other pups!

Baby Stripes can take a little longer to warm up to new people before showing her animated self, but she has enjoyed incorporating treats when meeting new friends! She also gains confidence while in the presence of other dogs. Once you’re her friend, Baby Stripes enjoys petting, playing and even cuddling in your lap!

If you’re looking for a shy but sweet snuggle buddy, Baby Stripes is your girl! Click the “Submit an Adoption Inquiry” button below to learn more about Baby Stripes!

Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website. Email clarevirnoche@gmail.com or text 6085164560 for more information or to adopt the pet.Willie is a 3-year-old mixed-breed silly goose who loves to frolic in fields, splash in rivers and snuggle his humans. Willie is 43 lbs of energy and incredibly smart. He will need lots of chews, toys and puzzles. It would be best for Willie to go to a home without any young children as he is loud, fast and still working on his impulse control.

Read more about Willie

Willie will need a home that’s understanding of his anxiety, too. He struggles when people come and go from the house and will bark loudly when he’s anxious. He is a very vocal dog and is not afraid to speak his mind. In the past, he’s enjoyed using speech buttons to communicate with his humans. Willie knows the commands sit, stay, leave it, drop it, off, down, settle, wait, paw and come, and is completely house-trained. Willie walks well on leash, but will bark and pull when he sees other dogs. He was crate-trained for the first 2 years of his life, but doesn’t use a crate anymore. During the work day, he stays home alone without issue and at night he sleeps on the couch. Willie currently lives with a 5-year-old dog and loves playing with his dog friends. Willie’s pushy, rough and tumble play style is not for everyone, so any future dog siblings would need to schedule a play date first. Willie is a great adventure buddy and will gladly hop in the car with you to go exploring. He is a Velcro dog who just wants to be near his humans. Even though Willie has extra needs, he loves hard and will be your loyal best friend that wants to curl up under a blanket with you at the end of each day. Please email clarevirnoche@gmail.com or text 6085164560 to ask any questions or set up a time to meet this goofball.

It was obvious that she had recently given birth to a litter of puppies.

Read more about Edith

We brought her home and have given her a chance at a good life until finding her a permanent placement. Our house is full with 4 dogs! She has been learning basic commands and is about 95% housetrained. She stays in a crate at night and while we aren't home. Her crate will go with her when she finds a new family. What we love about Edith is that she was drawn to us immediately. She cuddles and snuggles whenever she gets the chance. She and our other rescued female are like long lost sisters - true BFFS. She has a very funny personality and an old soul. We think she probably drank bourbon and smoked cigars in a previous life. Edith's favorites are nyla bones, any kind of dog food and treats. She takes lots of naps, either on a sofa or near a major appliance that puts out heat - the bottom of the fridge or right next to the oven when we're cooking. Because she is a hound, Edith loves to sniff out critters outside. She is relentless and sniffs until she is exhausted. Behaviors that Edith is working on are sharing bones and toys with others, trying to resist reaching for food on the counter, and personal space. She will sit on top of people if she doesn't see available space elsewhere. She also pretends that her legs don't work when she's comfortable, and it's time for bed. My husband often carries her like a baby to tuck her in. Edith will do best in a home with another female dog or as an only dog. We are unsure about children, but she has proven to adore people she has met. She must have a solid fenced yard, as she will test the limits and try to go on a hunting adventure. Please meet her in person if you think she might be a good candidate for your family. Please call Amy at 404-933-9913 if you would like more info on Edith or would like to arrange to meet her.

If you have ever had a dachshund, you know that burrowing under the covers is a must. She is a busy body and loves to be underfoot so as not to miss out on anything going on. Itzel has only been in her foster home for a week but she is learning the routine and finding her voice. She is very excitable and vocal when she plays with the other dogs and will tell you how excited she is when it's time to go for a car ride but overall I would not say that she is too yappy.Itzel is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, and started on monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention.

He has a joyful, playful personality and lots of youthful energy, so he would thrive with an active person or family who will take him on walks, hikes and backyard adventures. Once playtime is over, he is more than happy to curl up and soak up all the attention you can give him.Pumpkin didn't know any commands when he was first rescued, but he is very smart and proving to be a fast learner. He’s already house- and crate-trained, and eager to please. Since he's been focused on healing from surgery, he hasn't spent time around other dogs yet. We think he was probably a hunting dog, so he’ll do best in a home without small animals and will need additional leash training.Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Pumpkin is his sweet, trusting nature. Despite everything he went through, he has an enormous capacity for affection and seems genuinely delighted just to be loved. He is resilient, curious, energetic, eager to please and ready to become someone's best friend.Pumpkin has already begun the hard work of healing. Now all he needs is a loving home where he can finally belong. Could you be this special boy’s perfect match?Contact me today at bhmurray@gmail.com to learn more about sweet Pumpkin!

Adopting a dog in Baneberry

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
