1. Rizzo

Adult · Female · Terrier · 76 mi from Knoxville

Attention: This is a courtesy posting only! This pet is NOT available through Mountain Pet Rescue. Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website. Contact kellyapplegate.advocates@gmail.comfor more information or to adopt the pet.Sadly, I'm rehoming my sweet, female, small, terrier mix Rizzo. I've been fostering her for 2 1/2 months, and she has come a long way but she really needs a friend. She's potty-trained, leash-trained, and takes a bit to warm up to people but once she does she is so snuggly and will follow you everywhere. She loves other dogs and animals too.

Read more about Rizzo

She's about 3 years old and weighs 12 lbs. She is spayed, and she has had all of her initial shots and comes with vet records. She must be placed with someone with another dog in the house because she has a lot of energy and needs a buddy (preferably another small dog). She doesn't like being left alone but does not mess with anything when she is. She's always ready for long hikes and playing. Having a fenced in yard would be great too. Asking for a $300 rehoming fee for vet expenses, and she will come with her toys, bed and harness. Please let me know at kellyapplegate.advocates@gmail.com if you are interested, and we can schedule a meet and greet! I'm hoping to get her settled into her new home as soon as possible as I want her to bond with her new family. Also, If cost is a barrier, I'm sure there's something we can work out as long as it's a good fit!

3. Willie

Adult · Male · Terrier / Mixed · 76 mi from Knoxville

Attention: This is a courtesy posting only! This pet is NOT available through Mountain Pet Rescue. Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website. Email clarevirnoche@gmail.com or text 6085164560 for more information or to adopt the pet.Willie is a 3-year-old mixed-breed silly goose who loves to frolic in fields, splash in rivers and snuggle his humans. Willie is 43 lbs of energy and incredibly smart. He will need lots of chews, toys and puzzles. It would be best for Willie to go to a home without any young children as he is loud, fast and still working on his impulse control.

Read more about Willie

Willie will need a home that’s understanding of his anxiety, too. He struggles when people come and go from the house and will bark loudly when he’s anxious. He is a very vocal dog and is not afraid to speak his mind. In the past, he’s enjoyed using speech buttons to communicate with his humans. Willie knows the commands sit, stay, leave it, drop it, off, down, settle, wait, paw and come, and is completely house-trained. Willie walks well on leash, but will bark and pull when he sees other dogs. He was crate-trained for the first 2 years of his life, but doesn’t use a crate anymore. During the work day, he stays home alone without issue and at night he sleeps on the couch. Willie currently lives with a 5-year-old dog and loves playing with his dog friends. Willie’s pushy, rough and tumble play style is not for everyone, so any future dog siblings would need to schedule a play date first. Willie is a great adventure buddy and will gladly hop in the car with you to go exploring. He is a Velcro dog who just wants to be near his humans. Even though Willie has extra needs, he loves hard and will be your loyal best friend that wants to curl up under a blanket with you at the end of each day. Please email clarevirnoche@gmail.com or text 6085164560 to ask any questions or set up a time to meet this goofball.

5. Hazelnut

Young (2 years) · Female · Unknown breed · 82 mi from Knoxville

In a nutshell, Hazelnut is a kind-hearted shepherd girl. Not only does she have a beautiful, silky coat, but she absolutely melts into pets and has the gentlest, soulful facial expressions. One look into her dreamy eyes and you'll want to curl up beside her and spend the whole day together!

Read more about Hazelnut

When Hazelnut first arrived at the BRC, she was very worried about the world and its scary sights and sounds. Everyday unfamiliar things were terrifying for her. With lots of patience, support and treats, she was able to move quickly through her treatment here — she even became a helper dog for other dogs in treatment! In her time with us, she has blossomed into a resilient young dog, and she is ready to find a home that will help her continue to become more comfortable with the world!

Hazelnut is an active dog who thrives when she gets regular activity. She finds lots of joy in things like exploring on walks, playing with other dogs, zooming around fenced-in areas, pets from familiar people and using her big brain for training games! Although she’s an active girl, she also has a pleasantly relaxed side. She has been able to settle nicely for “office time” with our staff, where she’s happy to curl up on the couch, snooze and just hang out.

When it comes to other dogs, Hazelnut is what we call a true social butterfly. She enjoys interacting with other dogs and does well matching their energy. She’s down for some high-energy chase games with fellow playful pups, but she is also down to just coexist with mellower dogs. While having other dogs nearby helps boost her confidence in new situations, Hazelnut has shown that she’s capable of forming relationships with people on her own, too.

If you’re looking for a sweet and playful companion, Hazelnut would love to meet you! Click the “Submit an Adoption Inquiry” button below to learn more about Hazelnut!

This dog is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $200 if picked up in TN, $275 plus transport fee for out-of-state adoptions.

Read more about Oakley

Oakley is a soft-hearted girl whose happy tail and sweet smile are worth taking the time to earn. She may be a little shy when meeting someone new, but once she begins to feel safe, her affectionate personality starts to shine. Before long, you may find her happily wagging her tail just because you're sitting nearby and giving her a little attention. This lovely 2.5-year-old Lab mix weighs 46 pounds and has a moderate energy level. She enjoys leisurely walks, tasty treats, and one of her favorite pastimes, snuggling on the couch with her person. Oakley is housetrained, does well in her crate, and walks nicely on leash, making her an easy companion for daily routines. Oakley has done well with the other dogs and cat in her foster home. She has also been around chickens and a horse, which she simply ignores. New people and unfamiliar situations can make her timid and a little jumpy, so she will appreciate a calm, patient family that gives her time to settle in and build trust. She is still getting comfortable in her foster home, and there is likely even more of her sweet personality waiting to emerge. Oakley would love a quieter home where she can form a close bond with her people, enjoy daily walks and activities, and then curl up beside them for a relaxing evening. If you believe the best friendships are built with a little patience and a lot of love, Oakley may be the girl you've been waiting for. Read more about Bree

Bree wiggles her entire body the moment she sees her person, long ears bouncing up and down, and it is impossible not to smile. This 10-month-old Dachshund mix weighs 22 pounds and has the playful energy of a puppy. She loves squeaky toys, investigating new surroundings, and showering her favorite people with kisses on faces, ears, hands, and toes. When playtime winds down, there is nothing she likes better than curling up in a lap to watch TV, happy just to be near you. Bree is fully housetrained with no accidents so far, as long as she gets regular potty breaks in the morning, afternoon, and at bedtime. She is crate trained too, lying quietly inside, and she enjoys traveling in her crate and riding in the car. She does not know any commands yet, so she is a blank slate ready to learn. On walks she can go a good distance, stopping often to sniff everything along the way.

The big world outside can feel a little overwhelming to Bree. New noises, cars, people, and dogs make her nervous at first, and she may bark a little or try to keep her distance. The more she meets them, the braver she gets, and with time she warms up and her sweet personality shines through. She is a homebody at heart and perfectly content spending quiet time with her person.

Bree would be happiest with a family who will help her build confidence one new experience at a time, and who will enjoy having a loyal little lap buddy in return. With the right support, she is going to blossom into a wonderful, devoted companion. If you have the patience and heart to help a sweet girl find her courage, Bree would love to meet you. Adult (2 years 4 months) · Male · Pointer / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat) · 88 mi from Knoxville

Buddy II is a courtesy listing, not in the AARF foster program, and we are posting online to help the owner find a home for them. Please visit http://aarf-tn.com/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply.

Read more about Buddy II

Buddy is a big, goofy sweetheart who will chase a ball all day long and then happily offer you his whole heart. This two and a half year old Lab/Pointer mix weighs about 52 pounds and has a pair of adorable brown eyes that make it hard to resist. He is happy, enthusiastic, and full of energy, and once he bonds with his person, he is a total love who wants to play, cuddle, and be best friends. He might even enjoy agility or flyball, since he could chase a ball from sunrise to sunset. He is learning fetch and give, and he already knows sit and shake. Working on "no jump" is in progress, and he is eager to learn with treats in hand.

Buddy is housetrained and can go several hours between potty breaks. He seems to have been crate trained at some point, and he stays calm in his crate at home and in the car. He walks nicely on a leash around the yard. His previous owner spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital, so Buddy spent many hours at home on his own and got used to relaxing on the furniture. He will need a little patience if the new family has different house rules.

Buddy gets nervous around other dogs and would be happiest as the only pet. He has lots of enthusiasm for new people and is a big boy, so he would do best with teens, older kids, or active adults who can handle his exuberant greetings. Sadly, Buddy was a much-loved pet whose owner recently passed away.

If you have the heart to help this goofball with a loving home, Buddy would love to meet you. Reach out to A.A.R.F. by text at 931-260-8018 or visit https://www.aarf-tn.com to start the application process.

Read more about Jewel

Jewel treats every day like an adventure and every car ride like the best news she has heard all week. This happy, high-energy 5.5-year-old, 60 lb Australian Shepherd and Husky mix has a big personality and an even bigger love for life. She is happiest outdoors, running, exploring, and being part of whatever her people are doing, whether that means a ride in the car, a spot in the truck bed, or a trip to the park. She also has a sweet, snuggly side, and nothing makes her happier than climbing up for cuddles after a good play session.

Jewel is a smart girl who learns quickly. She knows sit, wait, belly (rolling over for belly rubs), turn, and a few fun tricks like orbit and around, and she is eager to work for her favorite peanut butter training treats. She is housetrained and has her own room where she settles in nicely. She is enthusiastic on the leash because it usually means an adventure is coming.

Jewel has a high play drive and a very enthusiastic style, so she does best with people who understand her energy and can offer structure and supervision. She has done well with larger dogs and with older kids around ten and up who know how to interact with an excited dog. Her ideal home is one without small children or small animals, where her playful spirit can shine and everyone feels comfortable. Her family has a new baby and she is just not fitting in with the new addition. The right home for Jewel is active and adventurous, with someone who enjoys training, exercise, and including her in everything. With consistency and plenty of love, she has so much potential to be an amazing companion.

20. Baby Stripes

2 Years · Female · Unknown breed · 82 mi from Knoxville

Introducing Baby Stripes! Baby Stripes is a playful and cuddly girl who finds joy in socializing with other dogs, cozying up with a nice blanket and snacking on a chew stick. She recently spent time in a foster home where she was described as “cartoon-like” when she played with the resident dogs and people — and we could not agree more!

Read more about Baby Stripes

Baby Stripes was originally found as a stray and came into our care with fear of new people, new situations and leash walking. She has made a lot of progress in her time here and has graduated into a resilient, companion pup who is ready to find a home of her own. Baby Stripes is seeking a home where she can continue to grow her confidence and build resilience.

Baby Stripes truly loves other dogs and has made many dog friends, both here at the BRC and with the resident dogs in her foster home. She enjoys some light wrestling and chase games with her pals and has even been a helper dog for our other pups!

Baby Stripes can take a little longer to warm up to new people before showing her animated self, but she has enjoyed incorporating treats when meeting new friends! She also gains confidence while in the presence of other dogs. Once you’re her friend, Baby Stripes enjoys petting, playing and even cuddling in your lap!

Sweet and eager to please, Jethro is a gem of a dog. Having spent so much time in a shelter, he of course needs to learn the rules of the house, but is very receptive to correction (and treats!). During play, he is alert and observant of others boundaries. He has an excellent off switch; moving from play to down time inside is not an issue for this guy.Don't let his size fool you; he is a giant baby who wants nothing more than to cuddle in your lap. He is wary of cats (a kitten once hissed at him and he cowered into my arms) but young enough to learn that they are house mates. We have been working on crate training. She's affectionate after getting to know you and becoming comfortable. Loves to cuddle but likes her own space as well. Ideal home for her…- kind, patient and understanding family - predictable home with schedule - willing to give her time to decompress - needs to be a only pet - unsure of behavior with children. She would be a great dog for the right family and deserves better than what she has had.Email me at southernshortti@gmail.com or text 828-772-8612 today to meet or learn more about happy Mia!

27. Lady

Adult · Female · Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 19 mi from Knoxville

See Courtesy Posting Disclaimer *
Hi, my name is Lady. I am a 3-year-old black Lab. I am in foster in Knoxville, Tennessee, from Texoma Dog Ranch Rescue in Texas. I was stressed out at the Dog Ranch being in kennels all the time and around a lot of loud dogs, so I was lucky enough to find a foster. I am a really sweet and smart girl.
I weigh 54 pounds, and I have been spayed and fully vetted, and even have a health certificate. I will come with 3 months heartworm preventative and 3 months flea and tick control. I know some basic commands, and I am house-trained and crate-trained. And I do not get on the furniture.

Read more about Lady

I do have a little bit of a fear of men but it doesn't take me long with some understanding to start to feel comfortable. I have been in my foster home for a little over a week, and I have really started coming out of my shell... oh, and by the way, I am dog-friendly, as my foster has two little dachshunds.
I would do well in just about any home, but preferably without younger kids, as I am quite large and might accidentally bump into one. I would absolutely love a home that was active and could take me on lots of walks and hikes, as I do really good on a leash and do not pull. I really hope I can find my forever home! If somebody will just give me a chance and let me get comfortable and get over my fears, I will do great. I promise I am a kind, gentle soul and will love you forever.
I would also love a fenced in yard to play in and run Zoomies. My foster has a privacy fence which is perfect, but I think as long as your fence is 5 feet or higher I will do fine and not try to escape, I promise. Is there anyone out there that will give me a chance? I was rescued from a shelter a day before I was supposed to be euthanized due to space, so I know I have a purpose for someone out there. For more information on me please email texomadogcoordinator@gmail.com. Also applications can be found at www.texomadogrescue.com

28. Meatball

Young · Female · Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed · 93 mi from Knoxville

Meet Meatball, a beautiful retriever mix around a year old who has already experienced more hardship than any dog should.Meatball was dumped at another facility that was already struggling with overcrowding. On top of that, this sweet girl is heartworm positive and currently working on gaining some much-needed weight. Despite everything she’s been through, she has maintained the most incredibly gentle, loving, and docile personality. And guys, when we say this girl is SWEET, we mean it!Meatball is genuinely one of those dogs who just seems to love everyone she meets. She does phenomenally with other dogs and adjusts beautifully to just about any playstyle, whether her friends are rambunctious or more laid-back.

She loves children, has shown little interest in our office cats, and is an absolute dream on a leash! She’s still a young dog who enjoys playing and having fun, but she’s not excessively energetic. She’s a wonderful balance of playful and laid-back, making her a great fit for so many different lifestyles.PLEASE DON’T LET HER HEARTWORM DIAGNOSIS SCARE YOU AWAY!We are covering 100% of the cost of Meatball’s heartworm treatment! All we need is someone willing to open their heart and home to this deserving girl, provide the TLC she needs, and give her a safe, loving place to recover.Meatball has spent enough of her short life being let down. We want the rest of her story to be filled with full bellies, soft beds, endless love, and a family who will never give up on her. She’s only a year old. She has her whole life ahead of her, and we desperately want that life to be a good one. ❤️We also want to take a moment to remind everyone just how important community support is. It is because of YOUR donations and continued support that we are able to pull dogs like Meatball who have medical needs that many already overwhelmed facilities simply don’t have the resources to take on. Every donation, no matter how small, helps us give animals like her a chance they might not have had otherwise. We truly could not do what we do without you, and Meatball is a perfect example of the lives your generosity helps us save. ❤️Puppies 6 months and under are typically $200 and dogs from 7 months to 6 years are typically $100.00. Adopting a dog in Knoxville

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
