1. Rizzo
Adult · Female · Terrier · 76 mi from Knoxville

Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website. Contact kellyapplegate.advocates@gmail.comfor more information or to adopt the pet.Sadly, I'm rehoming my sweet, female, small, terrier mix Rizzo. I've been fostering her for 2 1/2 months, and she has come a long way but she really needs a friend. She's potty-trained, leash-trained, and takes a bit to warm up to people but once she does she is so snuggly and will follow you everywhere. She loves other dogs and animals too.
Read more about Rizzo
She's about 3 years old and weighs 12 lbs. She is spayed, and she has had all of her initial shots and comes with vet records. She must be placed with someone with another dog in the house because she has a lot of energy and needs a buddy (preferably another small dog). She doesn't like being left alone but does not mess with anything when she is. She's always ready for long hikes and playing. Having a fenced in yard would be great too. Asking for a $300 rehoming fee for vet expenses, and she will come with her toys, bed and harness. Please let me know at kellyapplegate.advocates@gmail.com if you are interested, and we can schedule a meet and greet! I'm hoping to get her settled into her new home as soon as possible as I want her to bond with her new family. Also, If cost is a barrier, I'm sure there's something we can work out as long as it's a good fit!

2. Myla
Adult · Female · Dutch Shepherd / Mixed · 76 mi from Knoxville

Attention: This is a courtesy posting only! This pet is NOT available through Mountain Pet Rescue. Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website. Text (702) 528-8073 for more information or to adopt the pet.Myla is a sweet, but shy 3.5-year-old Dutch Shepard mix. This precious pup loves to be outside, whether that's walking or playing with other dogs at the dog park! She's a little nervous/shy about meeting new people, but once she warms up to you she's a little bundle of love! One of the main recommendations we can request for Myla is that she has another pup she can play with and/or a yard where she can burn out her zoomies appropriately. 3. Willie
Adult · Male · Terrier / Mixed · 76 mi from Knoxville

Attention: This is a courtesy posting only! This pet is NOT available through Mountain Pet Rescue. Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website. Email clarevirnoche@gmail.com or text 6085164560 for more information or to adopt the pet.Willie is a 3-year-old mixed-breed silly goose who loves to frolic in fields, splash in rivers and snuggle his humans. Willie is 43 lbs of energy and incredibly smart. He will need lots of chews, toys and puzzles. It would be best for Willie to go to a home without any young children as he is loud, fast and still working on his impulse control.
Read more about Willie
Willie will need a home that’s understanding of his anxiety, too. He struggles when people come and go from the house and will bark loudly when he’s anxious. He is a very vocal dog and is not afraid to speak his mind. In the past, he’s enjoyed using speech buttons to communicate with his humans. Willie knows the commands sit, stay, leave it, drop it, off, down, settle, wait, paw and come, and is completely house-trained. Willie walks well on leash, but will bark and pull when he sees other dogs. He was crate-trained for the first 2 years of his life, but doesn’t use a crate anymore. During the work day, he stays home alone without issue and at night he sleeps on the couch. Willie currently lives with a 5-year-old dog and loves playing with his dog friends. Willie’s pushy, rough and tumble play style is not for everyone, so any future dog siblings would need to schedule a play date first. Willie is a great adventure buddy and will gladly hop in the car with you to go exploring. He is a Velcro dog who just wants to be near his humans. Even though Willie has extra needs, he loves hard and will be your loyal best friend that wants to curl up under a blanket with you at the end of each day. Please email clarevirnoche@gmail.com or text 6085164560 to ask any questions or set up a time to meet this goofball.

5. Hazelnut
Young (2 years) · Female · Unknown breed · 82 mi from Knoxville

In a nutshell, Hazelnut is a kind-hearted shepherd girl. Not only does she have a beautiful, silky coat, but she absolutely melts into pets and has the gentlest, soulful facial expressions. One look into her dreamy eyes and you'll want to curl up beside her and spend the whole day together!
Read more about Hazelnut
When Hazelnut first arrived at the BRC, she was very worried about the world and its scary sights and sounds. Everyday unfamiliar things were terrifying for her. With lots of patience, support and treats, she was able to move quickly through her treatment here — she even became a helper dog for other dogs in treatment! In her time with us, she has blossomed into a resilient young dog, and she is ready to find a home that will help her continue to become more comfortable with the world!
Hazelnut is an active dog who thrives when she gets regular activity. She finds lots of joy in things like exploring on walks, playing with other dogs, zooming around fenced-in areas, pets from familiar people and using her big brain for training games! Although she’s an active girl, she also has a pleasantly relaxed side. She has been able to settle nicely for “office time” with our staff, where she’s happy to curl up on the couch, snooze and just hang out.
When it comes to other dogs, Hazelnut is what we call a true social butterfly. She enjoys interacting with other dogs and does well matching their energy. She’s down for some high-energy chase games with fellow playful pups, but she is also down to just coexist with mellower dogs. While having other dogs nearby helps boost her confidence in new situations, Hazelnut has shown that she’s capable of forming relationships with people on her own, too.
If you’re looking for a sweet and playful companion, Hazelnut would love to meet you! Click the “Submit an Adoption Inquiry” button below to learn more about Hazelnut!

Hank is housetrained, gentle and very affectionate, gets along with other dogs, cats, children of all ages and is easy on the leash, although he does get excited if he sees a deer, a skunk, another dog etc. He is not a barker unless the Amazon delivery person stops by to deliver a package.

Read more about Oakley
Oakley is a soft-hearted girl whose happy tail and sweet smile are worth taking the time to earn. She may be a little shy when meeting someone new, but once she begins to feel safe, her affectionate personality starts to shine. Before long, you may find her happily wagging her tail just because you're sitting nearby and giving her a little attention. This lovely 2.5-year-old Lab mix weighs 46 pounds and has a moderate energy level. She enjoys leisurely walks, tasty treats, and one of her favorite pastimes, snuggling on the couch with her person. Oakley is housetrained, does well in her crate, and walks nicely on leash, making her an easy companion for daily routines. Oakley has done well with the other dogs and cat in her foster home. She has also been around chickens and a horse, which she simply ignores. New people and unfamiliar situations can make her timid and a little jumpy, so she will appreciate a calm, patient family that gives her time to settle in and build trust. She is still getting comfortable in her foster home, and there is likely even more of her sweet personality waiting to emerge. Oakley would love a quieter home where she can form a close bond with her people, enjoy daily walks and activities, and then curl up beside them for a relaxing evening. If you believe the best friendships are built with a little patience and a lot of love, Oakley may be the girl you've been waiting for. Young (10 months) · Female · Dachshund / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 88 mi from Knoxville

Read more about Bree
Bree wiggles her entire body the moment she sees her person, long ears bouncing up and down, and it is impossible not to smile. This 10-month-old Dachshund mix weighs 22 pounds and has the playful energy of a puppy. She loves squeaky toys, investigating new surroundings, and showering her favorite people with kisses on faces, ears, hands, and toes. When playtime winds down, there is nothing she likes better than curling up in a lap to watch TV, happy just to be near you. Bree is fully housetrained with no accidents so far, as long as she gets regular potty breaks in the morning, afternoon, and at bedtime. She is crate trained too, lying quietly inside, and she enjoys traveling in her crate and riding in the car. She does not know any commands yet, so she is a blank slate ready to learn. On walks she can go a good distance, stopping often to sniff everything along the way.
The big world outside can feel a little overwhelming to Bree. New noises, cars, people, and dogs make her nervous at first, and she may bark a little or try to keep her distance. The more she meets them, the braver she gets, and with time she warms up and her sweet personality shines through. She is a homebody at heart and perfectly content spending quiet time with her person.
Bree would be happiest with a family who will help her build confidence one new experience at a time, and who will enjoy having a loyal little lap buddy in return. With the right support, she is going to blossom into a wonderful, devoted companion. If you have the patience and heart to help a sweet girl find her courage, Bree would love to meet you. 14. Buddy II

Buddy II is a courtesy listing, not in the AARF foster program, and we are posting online to help the owner find a home for them. Please visit http://aarf-tn.com/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply.
Read more about Buddy II
Buddy is a big, goofy sweetheart who will chase a ball all day long and then happily offer you his whole heart. This two and a half year old Lab/Pointer mix weighs about 52 pounds and has a pair of adorable brown eyes that make it hard to resist. He is happy, enthusiastic, and full of energy, and once he bonds with his person, he is a total love who wants to play, cuddle, and be best friends. He might even enjoy agility or flyball, since he could chase a ball from sunrise to sunset. He is learning fetch and give, and he already knows sit and shake. Working on "no jump" is in progress, and he is eager to learn with treats in hand.
Buddy is housetrained and can go several hours between potty breaks. He seems to have been crate trained at some point, and he stays calm in his crate at home and in the car. He walks nicely on a leash around the yard. His previous owner spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital, so Buddy spent many hours at home on his own and got used to relaxing on the furniture. He will need a little patience if the new family has different house rules.
Buddy gets nervous around other dogs and would be happiest as the only pet. He has lots of enthusiasm for new people and is a big boy, so he would do best with teens, older kids, or active adults who can handle his exuberant greetings. Sadly, Buddy was a much-loved pet whose owner recently passed away.
If you have the heart to help this goofball with a loving home, Buddy would love to meet you. Reach out to A.A.R.F. by text at 931-260-8018 or visit https://www.aarf-tn.com to start the application process.

Jewel is a courtesy listing, not in the AARF foster program, and we are posting online to help the owner find a home for her. Please visit http://aarf-tn.com/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply.
Read more about Jewel
Jewel treats every day like an adventure and every car ride like the best news she has heard all week. This happy, high-energy 5.5-year-old, 60 lb Australian Shepherd and Husky mix has a big personality and an even bigger love for life. She is happiest outdoors, running, exploring, and being part of whatever her people are doing, whether that means a ride in the car, a spot in the truck bed, or a trip to the park. She also has a sweet, snuggly side, and nothing makes her happier than climbing up for cuddles after a good play session.
Jewel is a smart girl who learns quickly. She knows sit, wait, belly (rolling over for belly rubs), turn, and a few fun tricks like orbit and around, and she is eager to work for her favorite peanut butter training treats. She is housetrained and has her own room where she settles in nicely. She is enthusiastic on the leash because it usually means an adventure is coming.
Jewel has a high play drive and a very enthusiastic style, so she does best with people who understand her energy and can offer structure and supervision. She has done well with larger dogs and with older kids around ten and up who know how to interact with an excited dog. Her ideal home is one without small children or small animals, where her playful spirit can shine and everyone feels comfortable. Her family has a new baby and she is just not fitting in with the new addition. The right home for Jewel is active and adventurous, with someone who enjoys training, exercise, and including her in everything. With consistency and plenty of love, she has so much potential to be an amazing companion.
If you are ready for a loyal, joyful girl who wants to be wherever you are, Jewel would love to meet you. Reach out to A.A.R.F. by text at 931-260-8018 or visit https://www.aarf-tn.com to start the application process.

16. Jethro
Young · Male · Maremma Sheepdog · 93 mi from Knoxville

Sweet and eager to please, Jethro is a gem of a dog. Having spent so much time in a shelter, he of course needs to learn the rules of the house, but is very receptive to correction (and treats!). During play, he is alert and observant of others boundaries. He has an excellent off switch; moving from play to down time inside is not an issue for this guy.Don't let his size fool you; he is a giant baby who wants nothing more than to cuddle in your lap. He is wary of cats (a kitten once hissed at him and he cowered into my arms) but young enough to learn that they are house mates. With time and training, he will be the perfect family pet.Puppies 6 months and under are typically $200 and dogs from 7 months to 6 years are typically $100.00.

21. Lady
Adult · Female · Black Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 19 mi from Knoxville

See Courtesy Posting Disclaimer *
Hi, my name is Lady. I am a 3-year-old black Lab. I am in foster in Knoxville, Tennessee, from Texoma Dog Ranch Rescue in Texas. I was stressed out at the Dog Ranch being in kennels all the time and around a lot of loud dogs, so I was lucky enough to find a foster. I am a really sweet and smart girl.
I weigh 54 pounds, and I have been spayed and fully vetted, and even have a health certificate. I will come with 3 months heartworm preventative and 3 months flea and tick control. I know some basic commands, and I am house-trained and crate-trained. And I do not get on the furniture.
Read more about Lady
I do have a little bit of a fear of men but it doesn't take me long with some understanding to start to feel comfortable. I have been in my foster home for a little over a week, and I have really started coming out of my shell... oh, and by the way, I am dog-friendly, as my foster has two little dachshunds.
I would do well in just about any home, but preferably without younger kids, as I am quite large and might accidentally bump into one. I would absolutely love a home that was active and could take me on lots of walks and hikes, as I do really good on a leash and do not pull. I really hope I can find my forever home! If somebody will just give me a chance and let me get comfortable and get over my fears, I will do great. I promise I am a kind, gentle soul and will love you forever.
I would also love a fenced in yard to play in and run Zoomies. My foster has a privacy fence which is perfect, but I think as long as your fence is 5 feet or higher I will do fine and not try to escape, I promise. Is there anyone out there that will give me a chance? I was rescued from a shelter a day before I was supposed to be euthanized due to space, so I know I have a purpose for someone out there. 22. Meatball
Young · Female · Labrador Retriever / Terrier / Mixed · 93 mi from Knoxville

Meet Meatball, a beautiful retriever mix around a year old who has already experienced more hardship than any dog should.Meatball was dumped at another facility that was already struggling with overcrowding. On top of that, this sweet girl is heartworm positive and currently working on gaining some much-needed weight. Despite everything she’s been through, she has maintained the most incredibly gentle, loving, and docile personality. And guys, when we say this girl is SWEET, we mean it!Meatball is genuinely one of those dogs who just seems to love everyone she meets. She does phenomenally with other dogs and adjusts beautifully to just about any playstyle, whether her friends are rambunctious or more laid-back.

She loves children, has shown little interest in our office cats, and is an absolute dream on a leash! She’s still a young dog who enjoys playing and having fun, but she’s not excessively energetic. She’s a wonderful balance of playful and laid-back, making her a great fit for so many different lifestyles.PLEASE DON’T LET HER HEARTWORM DIAGNOSIS SCARE YOU AWAY!We are covering 100% of the cost of Meatball’s heartworm treatment! All we need is someone willing to open their heart and home to this deserving girl, provide the TLC she needs, and give her a safe, loving place to recover.Meatball has spent enough of her short life being let down. We want the rest of her story to be filled with full bellies, soft beds, endless love, and a family who will never give up on her. She’s only a year old. She has her whole life ahead of her, and we desperately want that life to be a good one. ❤️We also want to take a moment to remind everyone just how important community support is. It is because of YOUR donations and continued support that we are able to pull dogs like Meatball who have medical needs that many already overwhelmed facilities simply don’t have the resources to take on. Every donation, no matter how small, helps us give animals like her a chance they might not have had otherwise. We truly could not do what we do without you, and Meatball is a perfect example of the lives your generosity helps us save. ❤️Puppies 6 months and under are typically $200 and dogs from 7 months to 6 years are typically $100.00. Read more about Gidget
Gidget is a gentle little sweetheart who is learning that the world can be a wonderful place and that people can be trusted. With her long legs, soft, upright ears, and delicate features, she looks a bit like a tiny fox or baby doe. She may not rush into your arms just yet, but when she chooses to sit beside you or rest her head in your lap, it feels like a special gift. At about 14 months old and 16 pounds, Gidget is a Chihuahua / Terrier mix with a moderate energy level. She enjoys peaceful walks, a little playtime indoors, and finding a sunny spot to soak up some warmth. She also likes her Kong, puzzle toys, and tossing a tennis ball around. She is food motivated and clever, making her a fun little student for a family ready to help her learn. Gidget does well with a consistent potty schedule and has been trusted to roam the house without chewing or making a mess. Her crate is her cozy retreat, and she often chooses to go there on her own. She walks nicely on leash and frequently looks to her person for guidance. New experiences can make her nervous, especially large dogs and some men, so she will need patient introductions and a calm approach. When frightened, she may try to pull away, making secure equipment and a fenced yard or leashed outings especially important. Gidget currently lives happily with the resident cat. She would likely be best in a quieter home with people who enjoy daily walks and understand that building trust takes time. She has so much potential, and the family who gives her patience and encouragement will get to watch her confidence blossom. If you have a peaceful home and a little extra love to help Gidget discover how wonderful life can be, reach out to A.A.R.F. by text at 931-260-8018 or visit https://www.aarf-tn.com to start the application process.

She is currently carrying a few extra pounds, but don't let that fool you—this girl enjoys getting out for long walks and loves any opportunity to splash around in the water.

She's equally happy spending a quiet afternoon curled up on the couch beside her favorite person.April is a smart cookie who quickly mastered her puzzle feeder and enjoys using her brain as much as her legs. She is crate trained, housebroken, and knows basic commands, making her an easy companion to welcome into a home.People are April's favorite thing in the world. She thrives on affection and companionship and would love a family that can give her the attention and love she deserves. While she adores humans, she can be selective about other dogs and would do best with thoughtful introductions or as the only canine companion. After losing everything familiar, April is hoping for a second chance—a home where she can feel safe, loved, and cherished once again. 28. Edith
Adult · Female · Redbone Coonhound / Mixed · 76 mi from Knoxville

Attention: This is a courtesy posting only! This pet is NOT available through Mountain Pet Rescue. Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website. Contact Amy at 404-933-9913 for more information or to adopt the pet.Edith is a redbone coonhound mix. The vet thinks she is about 1.5 years old, and her current weight is 44 pounds. We had her spayed, and she is up to date on her vaccinations. She was dumped on a forest service road in rural Murphy, NC where she had been seen by multiple people for 3 days. It was obvious that she had recently given birth to a litter of puppies.
Read more about Edith
We brought her home and have given her a chance at a good life until finding her a permanent placement. Our house is full with 4 dogs! She has been learning basic commands and is about 95% housetrained. She stays in a crate at night and while we aren't home. Her crate will go with her when she finds a new family. What we love about Edith is that she was drawn to us immediately. She cuddles and snuggles whenever she gets the chance. She and our other rescued female are like long lost sisters - true BFFS. She has a very funny personality and an old soul. We think she probably drank bourbon and smoked cigars in a previous life. Edith's favorites are nyla bones, any kind of dog food and treats. She takes lots of naps, either on a sofa or near a major appliance that puts out heat - the bottom of the fridge or right next to the oven when we're cooking. Because she is a hound, Edith loves to sniff out critters outside. She is relentless and sniffs until she is exhausted. Behaviors that Edith is working on are sharing bones and toys with others, trying to resist reaching for food on the counter, and personal space. She will sit on top of people if she doesn't see available space elsewhere. She also pretends that her legs don't work when she's comfortable, and it's time for bed. My husband often carries her like a baby to tuck her in. Edith will do best in a home with another female dog or as an only dog. We are unsure about children, but she has proven to adore people she has met. She must have a solid fenced yard, as she will test the limits and try to go on a hunting adventure. Please meet her in person if you think she might be a good candidate for your family. Please call Amy at 404-933-9913 if you would like more info on Edith or would like to arrange to meet her.

30. Itzel
Adult · Female · Dachshund / Mixed · 76 mi from Knoxville

Itzel is a little spitfire that enjoys life in true Weinerschnitzel fashion. She loves to play with other dogs, go on car rides and make new friends. Itzel is mostly housetrained and will use a pee pad if you miss her signals. She is insistant on sleeping under the covers in your bed. If you have ever had a dachshund, you know that burrowing under the covers is a must. She is a busy body and loves to be underfoot so as not to miss out on anything going on. Itzel has only been in her foster home for a week but she is learning the routine and finding her voice. She is very excitable and vocal when she plays with the other dogs and will tell you how excited she is when it's time to go for a car ride but overall I would not say that she is too yappy.Itzel is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, and started on monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention.

Why adopt an adult dog in Knoxville
An adult dog's personality is fully formed, so the rescue can tell you how they are with people, other pets and busy households. Many have lived in foster homes and are already house-trained.
Grown dogs need less supervision than puppies and often know the basics, like sitting and walking on a leash, which suits people who work or have young children.
