5. Heidi
Adult · Female · Hound / Beagle

Heidi came to us as a stray and after being washed 3 times, fed and given a soft bed, she started to settle in. Heidi doesn't like being at the shelter and has some anxiety about it, but who can blame her! Heidi loves to come hang out with us in the office or out in a yard for a while. She smiles soo big and always wants you to hold her hand. If she has it her way, you'll be holding her hand and giving her lots of pets. Heidi has been around several other dogs and doesn't mind them hanging out. Heidi doesn't have the young puppy energy, she would be happy to just hang out with someone and go on walks once in a while. She has not met a stranger yet and loves all the human attention.
- House-trained
6. Bowie
Young · Male · Labrador Retriever / Beagle / Mixed

Bowie came to us with his siblings and mama when they were little puppies. He got adopted as a young pup but was unfortunately returned to us a couple months later after his people broke up and nobody wanted to keep him. He was returned to us where he is now starting to grow up. He gets along with all the dogs and isn't as much of a pushover as he used to be, he isn't scared to play with his friends now and also loves to say hello to his people with a big hug. Bo bo has a great "howl bark" and will definitely let you know when someone arrives! He may bark through the fence as new strangers because he is scared, but as soon as you open the gate, he is ready to say hello and get pets. Bowie is a good dog who deserves a home who will love him and treat him like family.
7. Kaia
Adult · Female · Terrier / Mixed

Kaia is still sort of new to us, as we are still slowly learning who she is. She started off very scared and shy but slowly has been coming out of her shell with a couple of our shelter members. Kaia takes a little time to learn how to trust a new person, but once she does, she really opens up! Kaia has a favorite person at the shelter, so we know that Kaia can be such a goofy, funny girl who loves to get the zoomies and fold basically in half to run with a giant smile. She spins around and takes off for a short run before coming back for a hug and some kisses/pets! We believe Kaia is so smart and will be easy to train for the person who really loves her and takes the time with her.
Read more about Kaia
Kaia is shy at first, so please understand that getting to know Kaia will take time, several weeks for her to start adjusting properly. Kaia may just be your next best friend and adventure buddy! Kaia has met a couple of children so far and has been very scared of them. Kaia may be best in an adult household.
8. Jade
Young · Female · Hound / Labrador Retriever / Mixed

Jade came in with all of her siblings when they were just small puppies. Jade is getting bigger here at the shelter with her brothers Java and Jumbo. She is such a happy girl and absolutely loves to greet people and play! She gets all wiggly and smiley when it's play time and always one of the first ones to come running up. Jade has been out and about at a couple fosters houses and has done very well. She knows the basics of house training and would make a perfect new best friend.

Adopting a dog in Marion County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
