1. Hank
Adult (6 years 2 months) · Male · Anatolian Shepherd / Great Pyrenees / Mixed

Say hello to Hank, originally named Pollux when we rescued him in April of 2021. He was one of three dogs who were roaming in East Texas and stopped for a while at a sheep farm. The LGDs protecting the sheep didn't appreciate unknown dogs hanging around, so we were called in to help. We picked up two handsome boys plus a beautiful girl, and we named them Castor, Pollux, and Gemini. We took care of their veterinary needs and put them to work in our pastures. All three dogs were adopted as working livestock guardians. Hank was adopted to protect chickens and other fowl.

Pollux looks to be an Anatolian Shepherd mixed with either Akbash or Great Pyrenees. He had a good life for 5 years, but when circumstances changed and the family no longer wanted to keep Pollux, they honored their adoption contract by calling us. Hank is great in our pasture with our Nigerian Dwarf goats and gets along well with the other dogs in the pasture.

2. Moose
Adult · Male · Great Dane

Moose was seized in a cruelty case; we do not know the story, but he has been the best boy since getting with us. He had about given up, but once he knew he was safe and cared for, he really excelled; he even gets the zoomies; he is so happy. Moose gets along with the other dogs in his foster home, all sizes and ages, but is especially fond of the smaller dogs. He does not live with cats but was fine with the ones he has been exposed to.Moose loves attention and meeting new friends. He likes to go for rides and is great on a leash, sowith a little help getting in a vehicle, he would be a great travel companion.

Moose was a senior when we got him and had not been neutered, so while he is house- and crate-trained, he needs to go out when he asks, or he can not wait long. He is very good about letting his foster mom know when he has to go out.Moose is a typical, laid-back Great Dane, gentle giant, and total love bug. He would be a greataddition to any kind of home, and if you would love to give a senior boy a great forever homeMoose could be the boy for you.He is fully vetted - neutered, current with vaccines, microchipped, and has been treated forheartworms. He is on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

3. Sydney
Young · Female · English Bulldog / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed

Sydney is a total love bug, happy, outgoing, and just wants to be with her human(s) as much as possible. She is still a young girl with lots of puppy attitude, so she is fairly high-energy and determined to learn as much as she can about how to be a very good girl. She lives with lots of other dogs and gets along with most everyone, any age or size. She has been very good around cats although she does not live with them.Sydney is house- and crate-trained, although she must go out on a regular basis; she will use a potty pad if she has to be alone for a long period. Even though she is a counter surfer, she does not destroy her finds; she likes to lie on whatever she can pull down.

She is good on a leash and loves to go for rides; she loves meeting new friends, so she would be a great go-everywhere girl.We really could not decide what breeds made up this beautiful girl; the shelter we pulled her from said she was an English Bulldog mix, and that much is probably true. As to the rest, we would love to know. She had to have her tail amputated; most of it was ingrown, and the rest was blocking her ability to potty. She was heartworm positive and has been treated for that also. She is now fully vetted - spayed, current with vaccines, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
4. Pepper
Adult · Female · American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed

I'm Pepper. My rescuers say I am the sweetest dog. They say I must have been on my own for a while, starved for attention, but now I am a big love sponge.I love learning new things and staying close to my peoples and my rescue family. For the first day or so, I would not let them out of my sight, but now I hang out with the other kids when they are busy, and I am ready if something needs my attention. I am a pretty good judge of that, if I do say so myself.Still learning to be a family dog, but I am liking what I'm experiencing so far. I think my favorite new thing is snuggling close to my person. Next would be wrestling with my brother Wolfie.Want a dog that can melt your heart with her soulful eyes? Then I am your girl.

5. Oskar
Adult (4 years 6 months) · Male · Anatolian Shepherd / Mixed (short coat)

Oskar was surrendered to us by his family when they lost the lease on their farm. They had bought him from a breeder who said he is Anatolian Shepherd mixed with Central Asian Shepherd. Our website doesn't include Central Asian Shepherd as one of the breeds we can choose, probably because the breed is not very common in the USA. Oskar was raised with Boer goats, and since moving to Windsong Ranch, he has been guarding Nigerian Dwarf goats.
Read more about Oskar
Oskar has a bit of an alpha personality with other dogs but is a real sweetheart with people. He can be a bit dog-selective, so if you have other working LGDs, we will need to have a meet & greet to see if he approves. Here, we have tried him with a few different dogs, and he does best with one of our feral LGDs. I think that's because the feral dog has zero interest in getting attention from the humans here, so that means Oskar can get all the love when we're in his pasture, and he just soaks that up.
Oskar has never been exposed to chickens or other livestock. Just goats. He has had an introduction to our longhorn bull, and showed proper respect, which is understandable when you see the size of the bull and his horns!
If Oskar sounds like a good match for you, please complete the application on our website.
6. Robert the Bruce
Adult (1 year 8 months) · Male · Akbash / Great Pyrenees

Robert the Bruce comes from a litter of puppies who were born on a ranch in Central Texas. They were exposed to Boer goats and longhorn cattle from the very beginning. And LOTS of dogs -- the ranch started with a handful of livestock guardian dogs (LGDs), and didn't spay/neuter any of them, so before you know it, he had more than 60 dogs and puppies, all growing up completely feral. Since March 2024, we've been trapping and removing as many as we can, and as of June 2025, we have removed 50 dogs and puppies from this one ranch. More remain, so this is an ongoing project and we won't rest until every dog has been spayed/neutered and vaccinated.
Read more about Robert the Bruce
Robert the Bruce and his siblings were completely feral when they were trapped, and in the beginning, they would just SCREAM when we tried to handle them. Over time, they have learned that humans might not be the worst creatures that ever existed. At Bluebonnet's home base, he has lived in our barn with exposure to goats and barn cats, and of course more livestock guardian dogs.
We don't know which of the adult LGDs on the ranch are his parents, but most of the adults that we have trapped, have weighed at least 90 lbs. Speaking of adults -- the rancher started with Akbash, Anatolian, and Great Pyrenees. Most of the dogs and puppies that we have seen look like full Akbash, Akbash/Anatolian mix or Akbash/Great Pyrenees mix. All of the puppies in this litter are solid white and look like full Akbash pups, but we can't say that with certainty since we don't know which adults are their parents.

9. Leroy
Young · Male · Anatolian Shepherd

Leroy is a big, handsome Anatolian Shepherd and Great Pyrenees mix who was born November 24, 2025. He weighs about 85 pounds and has a beautiful long coat of brown, tan, black, and white.Leroy was just a puppy when his rescue angel found him sitting in the middle of the road waiting for someone to save him. He was the only puppy in his foster home, but that didn't stop him from quickly befriending all the adult dogs. Leroy still thinks he runs the place. He loves to play with dogs of every size and is surprisingly gentle with the little ones, even though he is now a big boy who can easily keep up with the larger dogs.Leroy is happiest at home with his people and his dog friends.

He loves attention, treats, and being a huge cuddle bug indoors. Outside, his livestock guardian heritage comes through. He enjoys roughhousing with his toys, exploring the yard, and spending time outdoors. One of his absolute favorite activities is playing in his dog pool.Leroy needs a securely fenced yard where he can safely enjoy his outdoor time. He sometimes prefers sleeping outside and will let his foster mom know when he thinks it is too hot or too cold to come inside. He enjoys having the freedom to choose between relaxing indoors with his family and spending time outside.Leroy is crate trained and lets his foster family know when he needs to go outside. He appears to be house trained and has done very well in his foster home.Leroy is not a fan of leashes or car rides, so he is looking for a family that wants a stay-at-home companion rather than a frequent travel partner. He is good with dogs and does well with children and seniors, but he is not good with cats. Most of all, Leroy is a big, silly, joyful young dog who makes people smile just by enjoying life. He would love a home with room to play, a secure yard, plenty of attention, and perhaps a canine friend or two to share his adventures.Leroy is fully vetted, neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and current on heartworm and flea and tick prevention.

10. Gravy
Senior (8 years) · Female · Poodle (Standard) / Boxer / Mixed (medium coat)

Gravy was rescued and adopted in 2019, and had a good life for several years. Then another dog was added to the family, and after 6+ months of living in peace, the dynamic changed for some reason. Gravy and the new dog just didn't seem to be capable of getting along any more and we can't say why. We agreed that Gravy should come back to Bluebonnet so we could find a new home for her.
Read more about Gravy
She is a very sweet, affectionate dog. She gets along with other dogs, just not with the one new female added to her family. She had lived with other female dogs here before adoption, AND with another female dog in her adopted home. So it's not a same-sex issue. It seems to be specifically these two dogs.
Gravy is house/potty-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trained. She's a very easy dog to have around. DNA results show her to be 50% Poodle, 12.5% Boxer, 12.5% Husky, and 25% mix of various breed groups. She seems to be fairly low-shedding and quieter than the Husky part of her DNA would suggest.
If you have a nice quiet home and can give Gravy the retirement she deserves, please submit your application here.
ORIGINAL BIO - 2019
Biscuits and her sister Gravy landed in a small shelter in rural Oklahoma after being picked up as strays. There are several Doodle breeders within an hour's drive of the shelter, and our best guess is that these girls had a good home but somehow got lost. We've looked at lots of photos and read the descriptions for several different types of Doodle, and it's hard to say which variety these girls might be, but they do look more like Doodles than like any AKC breed. One Oklahoma breeder's website has photos of "SwissDoodles" that look similar to these girls; those dogs are bred from a BerneDoodle paired with an AussieDoodle. Another Oklahoma breeder's website has photos of GoldenDoodles with brindle coloring similar to the coats on Biscuits & Gravy. We didn't find an Oklahoma breeder advertising Doodles from German Wire-Haired Pointers, but the wiry texture of their coats makes us think that's a possibility. We can only guess about their breed mix, unless you want to donate a DNA kit so we can find out for sure. :)
We can tell you that personality-wise, Biscuits and Gravy remind us very much of some Doodle pups we rescued last year. They are sweet, affectionate, full of energy, very playful, and just all around good-tempered dogs. They get along with other dogs and seem well-socialized with people.
If you would like to meet either of these sweethearts, please complete the application on our website at www.bluebonnetrescue.org.

11. Prince
Adult · Male · Collie / Shepherd / Mixed

This handsome boy needs a very special person in his life, as he struggles to trust many humans. Prince might like someone immediately, but it is rare. He did not like his foster mom at all initially, but now he is loving and adoring of her. He is an outgoing and fun dog once he chooses to trust someone; otherwise, he makes it clear that he prefers to be left alone. Prince lives with many other dogs and is exceptionally playful with the smaller dogs in his home. He has not been cat tested, but ignores the cats in their catio in his foster home. He has learned to accept and walk on a leash and even enjoys going for walks now.

12. Princess
Senior · Female · Shepherd / Mixed

Hi, I’m Princess... I was seized from Collin County as an animal cruelty case with demodex mange that was so bad I had no fur. I’d been thrown out in the back yard and just left until I was skin and bones. My fur has grown back in thanks to my angels and All Heart Veterinary Clinic and Hillcrest. I’m a shepherd mix, weigh about 30 pounds and my approximate date of birth is 2/17/15. I’m timid when I meet new people. I have great house manners and play well with others although the best fit for me would probably be in a home as an only dog. I do bark for attention and am a little neurotic so I’m going to need a special person to love me and work with me.

My world has been scary but I know now there are good people out there. I’m still very young, have a long life ahead of me and I especially have a lot of love to give! Will you be my next angel? Princess is up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, spayed and on heart worm and flea/tick preventatives. The first step in our adoption process for this sweet, timid little girl is to submit your application which is available online at hillcrestanimalrescue.org. Once you are there, click on ADOPT and scroll down to our Application.
13. Racine
Adult · Female · German Shepherd Dog / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed

Racine had her DNA tested, and the results revealed that she is 60 percent American Staffordshire Terrier, 22 percent German Shepherd, 15 percent American Pit Bull Terrier, and 3 percent Bulldog. This would explain her high energy level and intensity. She is very intelligent and would love the job of protecting your family and doing whatever you ask of her.She came into rescue when her previous family decided to euthanize her when she was nine months old instead of training. After getting her as a puppy, they did nothing to help her learn to be a good family member. Luckily, the vet they took her to realized she was not the problem and had a lot of potential.
Read more about Racine
We sent her to training, and now she is ready to be part of a family where she can fully devote herself.Racine is good on a leash, loves going for rides, and has the energy to keep up with any activity her humans might enjoy. She gets along with other dogs and would do great having fur friends to play with. She is too much for cats and probably small dogs, although she does live with small dogs in her foster home, she is not unattended around them. She would do best in a home without small children for the same reason, just too high of an energy level, and theywould ramp each other up.She is house and crate trained, although she has a stay-at-home family, so she goes outside several times a day, and someone is always available to let her out. Racine is fully vetted, current on vaccines, spayed, microchipped, and on flea and tick, as well as heartworm, prevention.

15. Ruby Monday
Senior · Female · American Bulldog / Mixed

Ruby Monday is a total love bug who was unfortunately dumped at a high-kill shelter when her previous family moved without her. She lives with many other dogs in her foster home and gets along well with everyone, except when someone gets into an altercation. She thinks she is supposed to end all spats, so we never leave her with the other dogs unattended. For this reason, she would do better in a home as an only furkid or with an experienced owner.Ruby loves humans of all sizes and ages. She is a cuddlebug who loves to go for car rides and walks. It is hard to believe she's a senior with her energy and happy, outgoing nature.

It would be wonderful for any senior who wants a dog to spend retirement with them, and still give anyone who might want to cause trouble a reason to think twice because of her size and bark. She is fully vetted, current with her vaccines, spayed, microchipped, and on flea and tick, as well as heartworm, prevention. Ruby is available for permanent foster care if you live within a reasonable distance of our veterinary clinic. 20. Amos
Adult · Male · Husky

Amos got to us after he had to go from the animal shelter to the vet clinic for an amputation. We don’t know why his front left leg was so damaged. We do know that the night of his surgery he managed to rip out all of his stitches and laid his head on the vet tech’s shoulder while getting wrapped for repair surgery the next morning. He is not quite a typical Husky as he’s very laid back. He doesn’t use his voice near as often as most Huskies although he does have a little growl in his conversational voice which isn’t nearly as off-putting as it might sound.Amos has great house manners, does fine on a leash, and would be a perfect go-everywhere boy for his family.

21. Archer
Adult · Male · Pointer / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed

Archer came to our rescue after being picked up as a stray. He doesn’t know his front ankles aren’t ‘normal’ as he gets around just fine. This condition is Angular Limb Disorder and attempting surgeries to resolve could make his situation worse. While he wouldn’t be a great running companion he still loves going for walks and short jogs. Long or strenuous walks could make him sore, so his family would want to avoid that as he would go if asked. This handsome boy is a happy, outgoing, gentle soul. He loves humans of all sizes and ages. Being with his humans and getting attention is his very favorite thing.

He lives with lots of other dogs and is fine with everyone unless they are nasty to him; he won’t be bullied by anyone. He is good around the cats in his foster home who are very dog savvy. Benny is a senior boy with lots of energy, enthusiasm, love and affection. He lives with lots of other dogs and gets along with everyone. He would love to chase the cats if he could so might not be good in a home with cats. He loves a chance to use his Beagle voice but is not an excessive barker; only uses it when he has a reason. He loves being with his human almost as much as treat and meal times. He is not much for car rides, he is good about riding but whines seems nervous wondering where he’s going. Guessing in the past car rides did not end in fun activities for him. He’s a very social boy, loves humans of all sizes and ages and is always happy for rubs and attention.

23. Cash
Adult · Male · German Shepherd Dog

Cash came to the rescue when the shelter sent him to have his fractured leg amputated at our vet clinic. He had been shot, and we have no idea of the other abuse he had suffered, but he is initially afraid of new men (fine once he learns they mean him no harm). While he is not an aggressive boy, he acts as if he could tear into someone, which can be off-putting. He is fine with women, loving, outgoing, and cuddly, especially with his foster mom. We are helping him work onhis fear, which can/will be resolved with patience and TLC.Cash lives with lots of other dogs and gets along with everyone, large and small.

Dozer was turned over to rescue after his previous owner lost him through the courts in a cruelty case. This poor guy has been through so much, yet he still retains the devotion and desire to please that his breed is known for.He is so enthusiastic about finally having humans who are kind and loving towards him, and a chance for a great doggie life. We are working on helping him rein in his excitement a bit and stop jumping up on humans. Once he learns this, he will excel around children and the elderly, as he genuinely loves everyone. This handsome guy is happy and outgoing, walks well on a leash, and loves going for a ride, so would love to be your go everywhere possible boy.Dozer has other dogs in his foster home, but he lacks social skills with dogs, so he should be the only dog in his forever home or have an experienced owner to help him continue developing these skills.

Adult · Female · Australian Shepherd / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed

Margot and her sister were picked up as strays. Luckily, someone found them before they starved or were killed. She and her sister, Amber, have been together their entire lives, so we would love to see them adopted together, if possible. Both girls are athletic, but Margot so much that she can jump and climb over the fences at her foster home to go where she pleases. Luckily, she stays on her property and goes into different areas to play with the other dogs or her foster family. Her foster has not worked on trying to keep her contained, but this would be a concern until she could adjust to her new home; she does have excellent recall.

29. Orphan Annie
Adult · Female · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler

We call her Orphan Annie since we found her abandoned on a hiking trail. Sort of amazing now that we have gotten to know her and that she stayed in one place long enough to be rescued.Annie is probably a Stubby Tail Cattle Dog, very much an Australian Cattle Dog with an emphasis on being active and engaged. Annie is typical of the herding breed, meant to nip at others to direct where to go. For this reason, she would not be good in a home with young children and is the kind of girl who needs a job.Annie loves being active and into everything. She usually has two speeds, sleeping, and full blast; unless she is one-on-one with her human when she is totally engaged.

Adopting a dog in Delta County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
