Adult (5 years 1 month) · Male · Poodle (Standard) / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)

Arthur is wondering what happened to his person.

Once upon a time, Arthur was someone's emotional support dog. He knew what it meant to belong to someone, to be loved, and to have a person by his side. Now, at the rescue, he spends so much of his time crying. It's heartbreaking to watch a dog who once had a purpose and a person feel so lost.

Arthur is a gentle, calm soul who absolutely loves people and gets along well with other dogs. He isn't asking for much. Just a comfortable place to lay his head, a little companionship, and someone who won't leave him alone for most of the day.

We think Arthur would be a wonderful companion for a senior or someone who is home more often than not. He doesn't need a busy household or endless adventures. He just needs YOU.

Can you imagine spending your golden years in a shelter, crying because the person you once loved is gone? Arthur deserves to know that he hasn't been forgotten. ❤️

4. Freddy

Adult (4 years 11 months) · Male · Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet Freddy!

Freddy is a sweet Poodle mix who is ready to find his forever family. Just like his siblings, Freddy had quite an adventure before arriving at the rescue. After his owner ended up in the hospital, he and his brothers and sisters were loose on a property before being safely caught. He came to us heavily matted and flea-infested, but he has been completely cleaned up, fully vetted, and is ready for his fresh start!

Read more about Freddy

Freddy is a very sweet and submissive boy. However, he is very shy and timid meeting new people. Once he warms up, he is jumping with tail wags and kisses. He really is a sweet boy, and just may need a little more patience until he come fully come out of his shell.

Due to his breed, Freddy will need a dedicated family committed to regular brushing and consistent professional grooming to keep him looking handsome and feeling his best. It can be very painful if his fur becomes matted and tangled.

We are unsure if he is house broken. Potty training is something that will just need to be retrained on.

His activity is pretty mellow here at the rescue, so far. But because he has also not had enough time to come out of his shell, he more than likely will be more active when comfortable in his forever home.

Adult (3 years 11 months) · Male · Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet Bingo!

Bingo is a gentle, sweet, and submissive Poodle mix who is looking for a patient family to help him blossom. Just like his 4 siblings who came in together, Bingo had a rough start. After his owner ended up in the hospital, he and his siblings spent two days loose on a property before being safely rescued. He arrived matted and covered in fleas, but he has been completely cleaned up, fully vetted, and is ready for a safe place to land.

Read more about Bingo

Unlike his energetic sister, Bingo has a much quieter, more sensitive soul. He is quite shy when meeting new people and will need a little time and patience to warm up to his new surroundings. Once he knows he is safe, his true colors shine—he becomes incredibly loving, gentle, and will happily shower you with sweet kisses!

We are unsure how he is with cats, as well as basic house manners. Potty training is something that will need to be recorrected on at home.

6. London

Adult (2 years) · Female · Shih Tzu (long coat)

Meet London!

London is a fun, hyper, loving, and playful Shih Tzu who is looking for a fresh start and a family to call her own.

After her owner sadly ended up in the hospital, London and her four siblings found themselves loose on a large property. It took a dedicated two-day trapping session by our team to bring them all safely into our rescue. She arrived heavily matted and flea-infested, but she has been cleaned up, vetted, and is now ready to let her true personality shine!

Read more about London

London is a total blast and has that classic, big Shih Tzu personality. She is a bundle of joy who loves to play, though she does give affectionate play bites when she gets excited, so a home with older children who understand puppy-like play would be best. She is also quite a vocal girl and will let you know when she has something to say! London is still working on her potty training and will need a patient family willing to help her learn the ropes.

As a Shih Tzu, she will also require consistent brushing and regular professional grooming to keep her coat looking and feeling its best.

Adult (5 years) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (medium coat)

Terri found herself as a stray, lost and confused. Thankfully, she was brought to us and is now safe.

Terri is a very sweet and submissive girl. She is still a little nervous and unsure of what is happening, but she still gives all the tail wags and happy kisses. She gets along just fine with other dogs, unsure about cats. Due to her demeanor, she would most likely do fine with kids, too.

We do not know her past life, so potty training and house broken is unsure, and will need to be worked on. She's not much of a barker, but that could also be due to her shy self, and not fully coming out of her shell, yet.

8. Pedro

Adult (4 years 2 months) · Male · Pug / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Pedro, who smiles when greeting you.

Pedro’s life changed through no fault of his own when his family was deported back to Mexico, leaving him in need of a new place to call home. It’s heartbreaking when circumstances beyond anyone’s control separate a family, and now this sweet boy is hoping for a second chance with a family who will love him forever.

Read more about Pedro

Pedro is a fun, happy, loving, and gentle boy who has so much affection to give. He loves sharing hugs and kisses with his people, lounging around and enjoying the simple things in life, or heading out for a nice walk. He isn’t an overly active guy, so he would be happy with a more relaxed lifestyle, but don’t let that fool you! Pedro still has a playful side and knows how to have a good time.

He gets along well with other dogs. We are unsure how he is with cats. Potty training is also something that may need to recorrect on, as he came in unaltered and unsure of his marking in home.

Pedro is the kind of dog who would love to be part of your everyday life, whether that means joining you for a leisurely stroll, relaxing beside you on the couch, or giving you sweet hugs and kisses after a long day. He doesn’t ask for much, just a safe home, a loving family, and someone who will never give up on him.

Young · Female · Labrador Retriever / Poodle (Standard) / Mixed (short coat)

This dog is in a foster home in San Antonio, TX. Prospective adopters must be able to travel to San Antonio to complete the adoption process. Please apply online at http://texasgreatdane.org/adoption-application/
Meet Raven!
Raven is a 4-month-old, 20-pound Labradoodle mix with a heart as big as her puppy paws! This sweet girl and her five siblings found themselves in a not-so-good shelter in South Texas, and we knew we had to step in and save them. Thankfully, all six puppies are now safe and ready to find families of their own!
Raven is a very social, happy, and loving puppy who absolutely adores people.

Read more about Raven

After not getting nearly enough attention in her short life, she is definitely making up for lost time! She loves being around her people and soaks up every bit of affection she can get. She also does wonderfully with other dogs and would love having a canine buddy to grow up with.
Like her siblings, Raven is pretty much a blank slate when it comes to training. She hasn’t had much direction or the opportunity to learn what’s expected of her, so her new family will need to be patient and willing to teach her the basics. The good news is that Raven is a smart girl, and with consistency, positive reinforcement, and lots of love, we think she is going to be an amazing companion!
Raven would thrive with an active, caring family who is ready for all the fun, puppy antics that come with raising a young dog. She needs a family who will give her guidance, continue her training, keep her mind and body busy, and most importantly, show her what it means to be loved.
This sweet girl has already overcome a rough start, and now she’s ready for the best chapter of her life—a forever home where she can grow, learn, play, and be spoiled just as every puppy should be. ❤️
Please understand you are committing to providing a good home for her entire life (up to 15+ years or more) - not just until her puppy cuteness wears off.
You must be committed to housebreaking, age-appropriate enrichment and exercise, leash training, grooming needs, and positive socialization. Like most puppies, she may chew on anything within her reach to include but not limited to baseboards, shoes, socks, children's toys, electrical cords, plants, etc.
Her adoption fee is $200. This includes her spay surgery, rabies vaccination, Nobivac® Canine 1-DAPP vaccinations, Bravecto®, Drontal® Plus, Tri-Heart® Plus Chewable Tablet, 24PetWatch® microchip, and leash and collar.
Please be aware that puppies and small breed dogs do get adopted quickly so interested parties are encouraged to apply online at www.saspca.org.
Please ensure your application is complete before submitting. We do verify property ownership, landlord references, apartment/HOA restrictions, veterinary references.
Our adoption events are held each Saturday at Petco located in the Northwoods Shopping Center at 18138 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio TX 78232. Event hours are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Additional questions may be directed to sagdinfo@gmail.com.

When she gets excited to see you and wants your attention, she can get a little carried away and may give you an enthusiastic scratch, begging for any attention and love she can get. She just has so much love and excitement to share and doesn't always realize her greetings can be a little too much sometimes. That most likely will all settle down once she realizes she found her forever home.

Once you get to know Morticia, it's easy to see what a wonderful girl she is. She is affectionate, playful, happy, and eager to be loved. She would love a family who will appreciate her fun personality and give her the patience and affection she deserves.

Adoption fee $300. Morticia is spayed, microchipped, 4DX tested, current on vaccines, and is on ProHeart 12 and Bravecto. She did test positive for anaplasmosis and is finishing treatment. Read more about anaplasma here; Anaplasmosis - Veterinary Partner - VIN

If transportation is needed, there is an additional $250 transport fee. Unfortunately, due to state regulations, Morticia cannot travel to Rhode Island or Massachusetts.

19. Remi

Senior (11 years 5 months) · Female · Shepherd / Mixed (short coat)

Meet Remi

After 11 years with her family, Remi was returned back to us. At her age, she deserves a quiet, loving home where she can spend her senior years feeling safe, comfortable, and loved.

Remi is a very sweet girl who will grab everyone's attention. She enjoys relaxing on her bed and would do best in a laid-back home without a lot of chaos. She is looking for someone who will love and care for her through her final years.

Read more about Remi

Remi is a senior dog, so her new family will need to understand and be prepared for the care that comes with her age. We have completed radiographs and bloodwork, including our standard senior panel that we do for all of our elderly dogs here, to ensure they are healthy to be adopted and any proper medications needed.

Remi is already spayed and microchipped and is current on her vaccines, ProHeart 12, and Bravecto. Her 4DX test did come back positive for heartworm and Ehrlichia. She is already receiving treatment for both. With the treatment, she should test negative within approximately 8–10 months. Further information on both can be found at https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/

Remi is also currently taking thyroid medication for low thyroid levels and will need continued medication and monitoring.

After spending 11 years with a family, Remi shouldn't have to wonder where she belongs. She deserves a loving home where she can relax on her bed, be spoiled, and enjoy the time she has left.

20. Foxy Lady

Young · Female · Corgi / Cairn Terrier (medium coat)

Welcome Foxy Lady to CCPAL Rescue. She is a Corgi/Cairn is our best estimate on her breed. She is 15 months old. She has a longer coat and weight about 25 pounds. She should be full grown and if anything may fill out some. She will be a small dog full grown. She is good with other dogs, good in a crate and getting used to Rescue life. She has an adorable underbite and her teeth are in great shape. We think her best home would be with someone who has had a Corgi and has the time to finish her training. I would say moderate to active family is best. She could be with kids. We think 8 or older is best.

Read more about Foxy Lady

She likes the women at the shelter and warms up more slowly to new people. She readily accepts women. She will be worked with on her leash manners and she has ridden in the car without problems. Her best home would be a more quiet one that she can get more one on one attention. She would be great for an older couple, or single person that wants a nice companion. She doesnt seem to be the social butterfly but very content with being home. If you think this sounds like a good fit for you, put in an application. She is a wonderful dog and a head turner for sure. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. 27. Taffy

Young (9 months) · Female · Terrier / Corgi / Mixed (medium coat)

Meet Taffy. Taffy can be nervous and cautious meeting new people right away.

Taffy is a sweet puppy looking for the patient, loving family she deserves. She was owner surrendered through no fault of her own, and while she may be unsure of new people at first, she has so much love waiting to come out of her shell.

Read more about Taffy

Taffy did not receive the socialization she needed while growing up, so she needs a family who understands that trust takes time. She can be cautious when meeting new people and may need some time to feel comfortable. She also seems to have had some negative experiences with people touching around her neck and the back of her head. Because of this, she may have a slight reaction if someone reaches for or touches those areas before she knows and trusts them . She will need people who are patient, respectful of her boundaries, and willing to let her go at her own pace.

Once Taffy gets to know you and realizes she can trust you, her demeanor completely changes. Her sweet and goofy personality really shines, and she becomes an affectionate, happy puppy who loves attention. She will even dance for you in return for some treats or attention! Taffy’s favorite thing in the world is a good back scratch, and once she trusts you, she will happily soak up all the attention she can get.

Older/considerate kids only. Taffy is still just a puppy, and with patience, consistency, positive experiences, and plenty of love, we know she will continue to come out of her shell and become the playful, loving puppy she was meant to be.

Taffy is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and current on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

Her adoption fee is $300. To apply to adopt Taffy, visit www.adoggie4you.org.

Taffy is currently in Texas but can travel to Washington, Portland, Oregon, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington, Kentucky, and along the East Coast. If transportation is needed, there is an additional $250 transport fee. Unfortunately, due to state regulations, Taffy cannot travel to Rhode Island or Massachusetts.

28. Cassie

8 Years 11 Months · Female · English Setter

If you are looking for a devoted companion who will completely commit her heart to you, Cassie is ready to answer the call! At nine years young, this beautiful English Setter is a classic “Velcro dog” who loves human affection and forms an incredibly deep, loyal bond with the woman of the house. Cassie is a perfect blend of a calm house companion and a middle-aged Setter explorer outdoors.

Inside the house, Cassie is all about comfort. She believes furniture privileges are a must and loves curling up on couches, chairs, or snoozing right alongside you in bed.

Read more about Cassie

When you go outside with her, Cassie taps into her Setter drive and she loves patrolling an interesting yard, flushing birds, and chasing squirrels. She’ll go outside on her own and do her business, but if you aren’t with her, she’s ready to come right back inside. She needs a home with a secure yard with 4 foot fences to keep her safe while she explores. She doesn’t need a large yard or hours of outside time, just enough to stretch her legs and work her Setter instincts daily.

Cassie does have a strong preference for women. She attaches quickly to females and tends to ignore men in the household. She will thrive in a quiet household where the primary caregiver is a woman who loves the constant companionship of an affectionate Setter. Cassie is a confident lady who knows what she wants, and she prefers to be #1 with her Mom so she’ll do best as an only dog or a laid-back, quiet canine companion who gives her space and doesn’t question her spot as Queen Bee. Cassie lived peacefully in a temp foster home with a confident cat. We haven’t assessed her with kids so we think she would be best suited for a home with older, respectful teenagers or an adult-only home.

Typical of field ES, particularly our confident girls, she can be a bit stubborn at times, though she is a quick learner who knows her name, responds beautifully to the command “Here,” and is doing well with her house-training. Cassie is a great traveler who loads easily into the car and enjoys riding along for the trip. She’s a good eater and a slow feeder works best. Cassie does experience separation anxiety when her beloved human is out of sight, which can result in barking or whining. She is starting anxiety meds to help her feel more secure and help her settle into this new life as an inside dog. The first 9 years of Cassie’s life were spent mostly in an outside kennel. Following the 3/3/3 rule in rescue, where dogs need 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn their new routine and 3 months to know this is their home and safe place, Cassie is making good progress daily and we are hopeful that this gets better when she can trust that she is in a forever home.

Cassie is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines and tests. She does have a heart murmur that is genetic; she can be as active as she wants and she is doing well on maintenance medications. Cassie is looking for an adopter who can offer patience, consistency, and a quiet routine. If you are a woman looking for a loyal, shadow-dog companion to patrol the yard by day and snuggle on the couch by night, Cassie is ready to fill your home with love.

29. Roz

7 Years 1 Month · Female · English Setter

Roz is a 7-year-young English Setter and, in her North Texas foster home, she is blooming into the beloved companion she was always meant to be. She found her way to SWESR when her previous owner in Oklahoma could no longer care for her, her brother Boe, and her mother Cassie, who were all rescued together. Roz has beautifully proven the "3 days, 3 weeks" rescue dog acclimation rule entirely true, adapting wonderfully from her past life as an outdoor kennel dog to the comforts of home living.

Read more about Roz

Roz is a soft, sensitive, independent and sweet soul. She can be a bit timid and shy at first, but she is treat-motivated and eager to please. She already responds well to routines, coming when called by her name and a clap of the hands. Roz is a quiet and polite houseguest; she does not bark at the doorbell, visitors, or outside noises, and she is completely non-destructive. While she is permitted on the furniture and nothing is off-limits, she has not yet ventured onto the couch on her own. She is very affectionate and looking for pets and love, but prefers receiving affection when she invites it. Thanks to her structured routine, Roz is now house-trained and has had no accidents in her foster home! She is great in her crate, staying there contentedly for 2 to 4 hours during the day when her humans are away and sleeping soundly crated through the night. Typical of many field ES, Roz has a bit of anxiety about loud noises and thunderstorms so she is looking for a quieter, non-hunting home.

Like many female ES, she can be a bit bossy with her brother Boe when she has a highly valued toy or food so her foster parents feed Roz and Boe separately. Roz does not resource guard towards humans, and once the initial meal is done, she doesn't mind sharing and will happily swap bowls with Boe to finish up every last bite. During her veterinary exam, it was noted that Roz has a heart murmur; it is genetic and inherited from her mother Cassie who has the same condition. There is no concern regarding her daily high-energy activity levels, her forever family will want to monitor it regularly with your DVM.

When it's time to head outside, Roz turns on her true English Setter engine. She loves to self-exercise as much as 4-6 hours a day, staying very active, curious, and playful while patrolling the yard or resting on the porch with her foster parents nearby. Roz has a medium prey drive, typical for a field English Setter; she loves to track crickets in the mulch and "hunt" frogs near the pool, though she prefers to just watch the birds rather than give chase. She has a blast engaging in energetic, friendly games of "tag" through the open fence line with the neighbor's Vizsla, Golden Doodle, and German Shepherd. While she isn't fond of swimming, she did accidentally fall into the pool early on and was successfully taught how to find the stairs, and she can safely navigate her way out on her own. Roz rides well in the car and is a calm passenger with no history of car sickness.

Roz is friendly and social with people. She has been introduced to 16, 8, and 2 year old grandkids and she was fine; during a party in her foster home, when things got more busy and loud for her liking, Roz put herself in her crate which is left open during the day. When meeting other dogs, she is social and friendly. Cats are unknown, but her mother Cassie has proven to be cat-safe and they lived on the same property together her whole life.

Roz would make a good first English Setter for a family new to the breed. While we think she would be content as an only dog (provided she gets plenty of human attention) or with a dog that would appreciate her somewhat bossy girl personality, she is already a wonderful dog match with her brother Boe who is in the same foster home. They can be adopted separately, but our preference is to adopt them together; they love each other and it would be great for them to transition to their forever home together. They will make a wonderful bonded

30. Boe

7 Years 1 Month · Male · English Setter

Boe is a 7-year-young English Setter and, in his North Texas foster home, he is becoming the beloved lap dog he was always meant to be. He found his way to SWESR when his owner in Oklahoma could no longer care for him, his sister Roz and his mother Cassie, both rescued with him.

Boe has proven the "3 days, 3 weeks" rescue dog acclimation rule entirely true, making steady progress towards being a house dog in his foster home. He has shown no signs of previous abuse, fear, or separation anxiety, and he is ready to find his forever family.

Read more about Boe

Boe is a certified sweetheart, an absolute "lover," and a true "Velcro" dog. Like a typical sensitive ES, Boe’s feelings are on full display and he loves nothing more than crawling right up onto the couch to melt into your lap or get full-body pets. While he enjoys furniture privileges, he is respectful; if you tell him "no" or ask him to get down, he will happily curl up on the floor right next to you. Boe saves all of his typical Setter energy for the great outdoors; inside the house, he is calm, not-destructive, and does not bark at the doorbell, people, or noises. He is a fantastic houseguest who is treat-motivated and a quick learner. He comes running when you call his name and clap your hands.

Because Boe spent his first seven years living outside, he is still perfecting his house manners. He is great in his crate—happily resting there for 2 to 4 hours during the day when his humans are gone and sleeping beautifully crated through the night. He has only had one true accident in 5 weeks, though he does still have an instinct to hike his leg and this happens less than once a day. He wears a belly band like a champ to prevent accidents, and he is consistently improving as he adapts to his new, structured indoor routine.

Boe doesn’t guard resources and he doesn't mind sharing food or toys with other dogs and he will happily swap and finish up bowls with his sister Roz when she is finished and allows him to share.

When it's time to head outside, Boe turns on his true English Setter engine. He loves to self-exercise and with his foster parents nearby, he happily spends 4-6 hours a day enjoying the fresh air, patrolling the yard, and resting on the porch. He has even figured out how to use a doggie door that leads to a climate-controlled outside shop! He has shown no interest in climbing or jumping fences and has a low escape drive, though standard safety precautions keeping gates and doors closed should be taken since he can be curious and most Setters will happily take the opportunity for a “run about” if given the opportunity.

Boe’s prey drive is medium/typical for a field ES and he is endlessly amused by the little things, whether he is "hunting" frogs near the pool, tracking crickets in the mulch, or running through the grass to stir up the birds. While he isn't fond of swimming, he did accidentally fall into the pool early on and was successfully taught how to find the stairs, and he can now safely navigate his way out on his own. Boe is good in the car and a calm passenger with no history of car sickness.

Boe is social and friendly with everyone he meets and he loves attention. He can often be found underfoot and between your legs. He recently enjoyed a party with 20 guests, as well as a 5-6 hour visit with grandchildren aged 16, 8, and 2, and he was completely engaged, gentle, and friendly with all of them.

Boe is great with other dogs. He can be a bit submissive if another dog gets pushy. He has a blast engaging in energetic, friendly games of "tag" through the open fence line with the neighbor's Vizsla, Golden Doodle, and German Shepherd. Cats are unknown but Boe’s mother Cassie has proven to be cat safe, and they lived on the same property his entire life.

Boe would make a good first English Setter for a family new to the breed. While we think he would be content as an only dog (provided he gets plenty of human attention) or with a dog of a similar personality, he is already
