1. Papito
Adult (3 years 1 month) · Male · Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 4 mi from Houston

DOB 10/1623, weight 16 #
Hey there, everyone! I’m Papito, a black and tan Jackshund (Jack Russell/ Dachshund mix) fella. I was happily situated in my adoptive home until my owners encountered financial difficulties. Unfortunately they had to downsize to a smaller home and couldn’t take me with them. Thank heavens my new foster mom welcomed me with open arms until I can find a new home. I get along great with the visiting grandkids, other small dogs, and even the cats in my foster home, although I’m nervous around large dogs whom I meet on walks.
Read more about Papito
Because my previous household was quiet, when I first arrived in my foster home, I was very fearful and shy because of the robust dog and cat activity. Fortunately, Foster Mom knew that it would take time and patience for me to adjust into my new “digs,” and with her gentle voice and affectionate touch, she has been showing me that I am securely loved, and --voilà! – watching me blossom has been something truly special for her. My prior owners had not trained me well, but Foster Mom is helping me work on my housetraining and crate-training – let’s just say that I’m a work-in-progress.
Now I’m looking for the family who will welcome me into my forever household. If you have a quiet home and a little patience, I think we might be exactly who each of us has been waiting for. Arrange to meet me today! My heart has so much love to give – all I need is YOU!
HOPE ID D26-1016-0055
Papito’s $200 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, basic vaccines, microchip and registration, testing for heartworms, negative fecal test, and preventative treatment for heartworms and fleas.

2. Boy
Young (2 years) · Male · Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier / Cairn Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 4 mi from Houston

DOB 10/16/24, weight 22 pounds
Hey there, everyone! I’m Boy, a happy, friendly, and calm grey-cream Wheaton/ Cairn Terrier mix fella who weighs exactly in the middle of these two breeds! What a perfect size I am to be devoted to all ages of hoomans in my foster home – adults and grandkids. Plus I get along great with the cats and other small dogs! I’m already crate- and house-trained, which is another bonus.
Read more about Boy
I was happily situated in my adoptive home, along with my little buddy King, until my hooman mom was hospitalized and my elderly hooman dad could not care for the two of us. Thank heavens my new foster mom opened her arms and home to both of us until we can find a new home. If you’re looking for a sweet scruffy terrier who’s just the right size – not to small and not too large – I’m the loving boy made to order for you. Arrange to meet me today, and see if I don’t cause love and laughter to echo throughout your house among you and your kids.

3. Dash
Adult (6 years 5 months) · Male · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie (medium coat) · 20 mi from Houston

Dash (originally named 'BESO' by CAP) was pulled from CAP after he showed 'kennel cough' symptoms. Since there are so many unvaccinated/young dogs in the shelter, it was not safe for anyone to leave him there. ALL of our dogs are fully vaccinated against kennel cough, so bringing him into our care was safe. He went straight to our vet, where they told us he showed NO sign of kennel cough. (Probably just the irritation of the trachea from his trach tube during his neuter surgery!) This little boy is a delight.

4. Heath
Puppy (6 months) · Male · Great Pyrenees (long coat) · 20 mi from Houston

Meet Heath, a wonderfully sweet "badger boy" with a beautiful, slightly curly coat who is looking for his perfect forever family! As part of our "Sweet Treat" litter born right here in our rescue care, Heath has been raised with hands-on love from the very beginning, making him remarkably calm, smart, and responsive to human affection. He is a gentle soul who is perhaps a bit more thoughtful and reserved than his energetic littermates, making him an absolute dream for someone who loves a balanced pup. Heath truly adores his cuddle time and loves a good play session, but he is equally happy to slow down, relax, and contentedly chew on a nice stick. If you are looking for a loving, steady companion with fantastic genetics and a sweet disposition, Heath is ready to bring a lifetime of devotion to your home.

14. Spring
Young (1 year) · Female · Carolina Dog / Mixed (short coat) · 4 mi from Houston

DOB 9/1/25, weight 31 lb.
Hey there, everyone! I’m Spring, a very sweet, calm, and very friendly Carolina Dog with four white paws and vest. Although a DNA test would reveal my heritage, I look like the ancient breed of Carolina Dog because of my large, upright ears, “fishhook” tail, and foxy-looking snout. Do you think I look like an Australian dingo?
A Good Samaritan saw me and my buddy Briar wandering for days in Spring Branch. That's why she named me Spring! She finally started feeding me until she could rescue and deliver me to my wonderful Foster Mom. I was so relieved to be in a safe haven because the hardscrabble life is no place for me.
Read more about Spring
Foster Mom assumes that I was someone’s lost or abandoned pet because I’m great with kids as well as the resident cats and I’m already housetrained. With my engaging disposition, it's no surprise that I’m ecstatic when I see her!
Now I’m ready to bring my winsome personality and relaxed tranquility to bless my forever family. Could that be you? Arrange to meet me today! I promise that we’ll fall head over paws in love with each other the instant that we meet!
HOPE ID D26-0909-0048
Spring’s $200 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, basic vaccines, microchip and registration, testing for heartworms, negative fecal test, and preventative treatment for heartworms and fleas.

Young · Male · Pug / Mixed (medium coat) · 3 mi from Houston

How this little guy ended up on the euthanasia list instead of cuddled up in someone’s lap we will never understand.
Dante is PRECIOUS! And is loads of fun! He is the happiest little guy but does spook at some things that we are still trying to identify, welders are definitely scary but rightfully so. When he does spook just a little reassurance and the cutie is back.

PUPPIES ARE ONLY PLACED IN HOMES WITH YOUTHFUL, PLAYFUL RESIDENT DOGS WHO ARE AT LEAST 50 POUNDS.
Our requirements for puppy adoptions are simple and necessary.
Our puppies are not livestock guardians, they are family pets that live inside of the family home.
Puppies must be placed in homes with a youthful, adult resident dog of similar size. This gives the puppy a mentor and a solid foundation for becoming part of the family.
Puppies are only adopted to homes with someone at home at least part of the day. If no one is home for 6-8 hours at a time, please do not apply.
Preference is always given to those with Great Pyrenees experience.
Applicants must have secure, visible fencing and a socialization plan in place.
The fastest way to be considered for a puppy is to fill out an application. Adoption is not first come, first served. GPRS and its fosters work diligently to find the right fit for each and every unique dog and puppy.
Applicant’s personal pets must be current on vaccines & heartworm/flea prevention and be altered.
Adoption fee: $450 (Adoption fee includes spay or neuter, distemper/parvo vaccines, flea preventative, deworming, and health certificate for travel). Adopters pay the cost of transport services outside of Texas area. Transport costs depend on location and company used. Northeast transport fee is $200. The Northwest and Midwest transport fees range from $225-$350. The Southeast transport fees range from $250-$350.

22. Sebastian
Young (1 year 3 months) · Male · Siberian Husky / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) · 17 mi from Houston

DOB 4/7/25, weight 54 #
Hi there! I'm Sebastian, and my foster mom describes me as a super-energetic, happy-go-lucky teenager who is always ready for the next adventure. If you are looking for a dog who will keep you active, entertained, and smiling every day, I just might be your perfect match!
My Ideal Day
Read more about Sebastian
My perfect day starts with an epic game of fetch in the backyard. When we are not playing fetch, I love to start a game of "catch me if you can," so be prepared to keep up with my zoomies! After that, it's time to find some water. Whether it's a splash pad, kiddie pool, or even the backyard hose, I absolutely love splashing around and having fun in the water. Seriously -- I could play in the water all day. To wrap up the day, I'd love a long walk before settling in beside you for some well-earned cuddle time.
My Perfect Match
Energy Level: High! I need lots of daily exercise, playtime, and mental enrichment to keep me happy.
Home Preference: A home with a securely fenced yard is highly recommended so I can safely run, play, and burn off my energy.
People & Pets: Because I'm an enthusiastic young dog, I'd do best with active owners and older children who can enjoy my playful style. I have a strong instinct to chase cats, so I'll need a feline-free home. If you already have a dog, great, I'd love to meet them first to make sure we're a good playtime match!
Training: I'm already house-trained and crate-trained! I'm a smart boy who enjoys learning and would love to enroll in obedience class to polish up my manners.
If you're ready for a life filled with outdoor adventures, endless games of fetch, joyful water play, and lots of unconditional love, I'd love to meet you.
HOPE ID D26-0711-0033
Sebastian’s $200 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, basic vaccines, microchip, testing for heartworms, negative fecal test, and preventative treatment for heartworms and fleas.
To apply online:http://www.homelesspets.net/adoption-forms/dog-adoption.php. Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt from us but it initiates contact with us and gets the process started.
If you have questions prior to filling out the application or want to find out which adoption site that Sebastian will be this weekend, email us at lisagilchrist16@gmail.com, and a volunteer will get back to you.

23. Kathy
Adult (3 years) · Female · Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 4 mi from Houston

DOB 7/1/23, weight 11 lb.
Read more about Kathy
Hey there, everyone! I’m Kathy, a sweet, friendly, and affectionate fawn and white Chihuahua mix gal who absolutely loves when Foster Mom pets me. It’s understandable that I need all the reassurance of love that she gives me because my former owners abandoned me and my friend Kate in the backyard when they moved out. Once I arrived at my foster home, it didn’t take long for my heart to heal, and now I’m all wiggles and wags. Sometimes I can be a bit jealous of other dogs, but generally I get along well with the small dogs in my foster home, and I hit it off great with the resident cats and well as the grandkids when they come to visit.
I do best with lots of close family contact. Wouldn’t you know that cuddling in Foster Mom’s lap is my favorite spot and where I require plenty of quality time? My size makes me an ideal apartment dog, but I relish my daily exercise. Nothing makes me happier than for Foster Mom to invest her time and energy into treating me like a big dog. I make it easy for her because I already walk well on a leash. Plus I’m kennel-trained.
Unfortunately, one of the consequences of having irresponsible owners the first time around is that I tested a light positive for heartworms. I’m currently undergoing the Moxi-Doxy treatment protocol, which HOPE will pay for until it is completed. Given my young age and good general health, I’m expected to make a complete recovery.
Now I’m ready to bring my happy and adoring self to bless my new forever family. Could that be with you? Then arrange to meet me today! My heart has so much love to give – all I need is YOU! Although we’re available separately, Kate and I think it would be the cat’s meow if you were looking for a matched pair of fawn and white Chihuahuas and adopted both of us!

25. Mina
Young · Female · Husky / Mixed (medium coat) · 3 mi from Houston

Meet Mina
Mina may not be a Scout’s Honor dog, but we are honored to courtesy post her for our friends at Friends of BARC because this precious girl deserves the world.
At only a year and a half old, Mina has already faced challenges that most dogs never will. She has a neurological disability that gives her a wobbly little walk and some adorable quirks, but if you ask us, those things only make her even more special. They are part of what makes Mina, Mina.
Read more about Mina
This sweet girl doesn't know she's different. She wakes up every day ready to love, play, and enjoy life. She has the happiest spirit and the kindest heart. Mina absolutely adores other dogs and would love a playful canine sibling who can be her best friend. Watching her play is enough to make anyone smile.
Mina does have some special needs. She struggles with potty training and may never be fully potty trained, so she will need a patient, understanding home that can love her exactly as she is. Someone who sees past the challenges and sees the incredible dog underneath.
Because underneath it all is a young girl who just wants what every dog wants—a soft bed, a loving family, and someone to tell her she is perfect.
We know taking on a dog like Mina may not be for everyone. But we also know there is someone out there whose heart is big enough to fall in love with her wobbly walk, her silly quirks, and her endless capacity for love.
Mina deserves a chance. She deserves a foster home. She deserves a forever home. Most of all, she deserves someone who will love her for exactly who she is.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Mina, please let us know and we will connect you with the Friends of BARC team.
Sometimes the dogs who need a little extra help end up giving the most love in return!

26. Suki
Young (1 year 3 months) · Female · Boxer / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 3 mi from Houston

Meet Suki! One look into those big, soulful eyes and a few happy tail wags from her shelter kennel, and we were completely smitten.
When we first met Suki, she was happy to come up to us, but the moment we clipped on a leash, she froze. So, like the princess she is, we carried her over to our dog temperament testing area. And honestly? She made herself right at home!
To no surprise, Suki was wonderful with every dog she met. She was ready to play, make friends, and show off her fun personality. In fact, her shelter name was Rockstar because she was the rockstar of her playgroup—and we can absolutely see why!
Read more about Suki
Suki is around a year old, possibly even younger, and still has all that adorable puppy energy. She is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and believes that hugs are one of life’s greatest gifts. If you’re looking for a dog who will shower you with love, Suki is your girl.
She absolutely adores other dogs and would love a playful canine companion to romp around with. Whether she’s making new friends or snuggling up for attention, Suki’s joyful spirit shines through in everything she does.
Now all this sweet girl needs is a foster or forever family to give her the love she deserves. Could that be you?
Suki is looking for a foster or adopter! Apply at www.scoutshonor.org and help this little Rockstar find her happily ever after.

27. Jasmine
Young · Female · English Setter / Spaniel / Mixed (short coat) · 3 mi from Houston

Sweet Jasmine’s story is one we wish we didn’t hear so often. She found herself at Harris County Pets and landed on the long-stay list, where time was running out.
We spotted her during a shelter pull, but with so many lives to save and not enough hours in the day, we had to leave without meeting her. We couldn’t stop thinking about Jasmine, so first thing Sunday morning, we went back.
We hoped she’d be as wonderful as we imagined. To be sure, we introduced her to another dog we planned to save, and Jasmine passed with flying colors. No surprise there!
Read more about Jasmine
Jasmine is a people girl through and through. Her favorite place is as close to you as possible, preferably curled up in your lap, soaking in all the love and attention. She has a gentle, affectionate nature that makes it easy to fall for her.
Jasmine is dog-friendly and enjoys playtime, including with younger, high-energy dogs. She also loves cuddles and being close to her people. With her sweet, easygoing personality, she could be a wonderful fit for just about any loving home.
She’s settling in beautifully, discovering the safety and kindness she deserves. Now she just needs a foster or forever family to make her happy ending complete.
Could that be you? Visit scoutshonor.org to learn more about fostering or adopting Jasmine. Scout’s Honor covers all expenses associated with fostering.

28. Ruby
Young (2 years 4 months) · Female · Labrador Retriever / Coonhound / Mixed (short coat) · 3 mi from Houston

Meet Ruby - one look at that smile, and you’ll understand why everyone falls for her.
Ruby was found as a stray alongside Fletch. They’re said to be siblings, though they look nothing alike. Maybe they came from the same home; maybe they found each other while surviving on the streets. We may never know. What’s clear is that they leaned on each other, and now Ruby is ready for a loving person of her own.
At about 2 years old and 55 pounds, Ruby is a happy-go-lucky girl who seems delighted to meet everyone. She was wonderful with every dog during temperament testing: ready to play, soak up attention, and give plenty of love right back.
Read more about Ruby
Ruby’s bright eyes and joyful expression match the sweet spirit we’ve seen in her. She’s up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and ready for the next chapter: a safe, loving home where she can share all that happiness.
Please consider fostering or adopting Miss Ruby. Scout’s Honor can cover all expenses associated with fostering as needed.

29. Selma
Adult · Female · Hound / Shepherd / Mixed (short coat) · 3 mi from Houston

Meet Selma—the big, goofy girl who just wants to be close to you.
Formerly known as Indara at Harris County Pets, Selma is beginning a new chapter with Scout’s Honor. She shared a kennel with our sweet Patty and showed us what a kind, loving girl she is.
The shelter estimates Selma is around 6 years old, though we think she may be a little younger. Whatever her age, she has plenty of love to give—and she’d make a wonderful couch buddy. Selma may be a big girl, but her favorite place is right beside her person.
Read more about Selma
She can be a little unsure at first and may need a moment to take in a new situation. With patient guidance and a little reassurance, her loving, goofy personality shines through. Selma is dog-friendly and could enjoy a canine companion; she likes a little time to figure out a new dog’s play style before she settles in.
Selma deserves a home where she can feel safe, loved, and close to her people. Could you be the one to give this sweet girl her fresh start? Please consider fostering or adopting her.

Adopting a dog with children in Houston
Bring the whole family to meet the dog before you adopt, and ask the rescue how the dog behaves around children your kids' ages.
Teach children to let the dog come to them, to stroke gently, and to leave the dog alone while it's eating or sleeping. Give the dog a bed or crate of their own to retreat to, and always supervise young children with a new dog.
Relaxed adult dogs are often a better match for young children than puppies, which jump up, nip and chew while they learn.
