1. Smoky Bear

Adult (7 years 6 months) · Male · Dachshund / Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 14 mi from Patton Village

Smoky Bear is a new arrival to CTDR after being found running the streets in Austin. The finder took him home in hopes of finding his owners but to no avail. CTDR was contacted to see if we had room for this handsome boy and of course, we said yes. Smoky has started his vetting process but sadly he tested positive for those nasty heartworms and will have to undergo heartworm treatment before being adopted along with needing an extensive dental. Please look for updates on this handsome boy.

3. Gigi Grace

Young (5 years) · Female · Dachshund / Cavalier King Charles Spaniel / Mixed (long coat) · 14 mi from Patton Village

Gigi Grace--or Grace, as we call her--can be calm and is always affectionate, once she gets to know you. She is my shadow. She follows me everywhere, and when I sit down, she jumps in my lap. She loves to nap curled up next to me. If she's not on my lap, she is on the floor right next to me. However, she is also very playful, especially lately, since she is now used to us and fully recovered from her surgery (spaying). After breakfast, she likes to play with our other dachshund. She also has a particular toy that she likes. She will shake it and run around with it and play tug-of-war with me. She LOVES to run around the yard.

Read more about Gigi Grace

She tries to get the collie to chase her, and she loves to chase the ball. Grace is pretty much house trained. The only time she's had accidents is when we leave the house for a few hours. I am working on getting her to use the pee pad during those times. It's going well, but she's not 100% perfect yet. Grace does not seem to have any separation anxiety, but she has two other dogs here to hang around with when we're gone. No destructive behaviors (like chewing); no excessive barking. The only time she barks is when someone comes to the house. She is good on the leash and in the car. We have really loved having her with us. She has been really easy to take care of.

This spunky little girl has personality to boot! She is the sweetest baby girl who is full of energy for running and playing. She has never met a toy she didn't like to chew. Her favorite game is chase with her brother that ends in the ultimate wrestling match of pint sized cuteness if he catches her. Very smart girl who will trick her brother and lay in wait to attack. Adopting a dog in Patton Village

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
