1. Josie
Puppy · Female · Chihuahua / Pug (short coat) · 46 mi from San Marcos

Welcome Josie to CCPAL Rescue. Josie is a Chug (Chihuahua/Pug) puppy. She weighs 4 pounds and is 9 weeks old. She will be a small dog full grown. She should be 12 pounds or less. She is very sweet and has an adorable rounded head. She likes to be held, is good in a crate, goes on a wee pad and loves to play with toys. She was born at the Rescue. They took in a stray female and she was pregnant. This means the puppies get lots of attention and are very used to being in a loud and rowdy environment. Josie would be best in a home that the person doesn’t work all day every day. She needs to finish up her puppy training. Social pups make great adults and now is the time for her to spend time with her family and to go places and let people pet her. She is an AMAZING puppy. She would be fine with children. Due to her small size, we would like children to be 8 or older. She is getting her puppy vaccines and will have 3. She will then be ready for spay and adoption. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

Welcome Dudley to CCPAL Rescue. Dudley is a 5- pound Chiweenie. That is Dashchund/Chihuahua. He is 10 weeks old. He has a beautiful fawn and black fade coloration. He looks like Bonnie but he is a little taller and has down ears. He has a little longer legs and body. He is good in a crate, likes to be held. He is learning the wee pad and gets toys and treats from our adopters. He will get grooming and nail trims at the rescue so he will be fine with that. He would be a great dog for a lover of this breed. A smaller yard would be fine. He would be fine in a doggy daycare as he is very social. He was found as a stray. He is getting neutered and all his vaccinations at the Rescue. He is ready for his forever home. He would be best in a home with someone that doesn’t work all day everyday as he will need to finish up his puppy training. He would also be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older. 7. Tonka II
Young · Male · Boxer · 33 mi from San Marcos

11/1/2026Tonka II is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Tonka II! I am a handsome 2 year old brindle boy that is an owner surrender due to my family moving and my breed not being allowed. I am described as friendly, active, noisy, playful, affectionate, and obedient! I currently live with an older lab but am said to be dog friendly with dogs of all sizes. I currently live with cats and because I don't know personal space, they don't want to play with me. I currently live with 3 kids (ages 19 month to 13 years) and am gentle with the baby and like to play rough with the older kids.

I'm a happy guy and have only met one person I didn't like out of the many people I have been around! I am house trained, crate trained, and can be picky with some of my favorite food depending on the day. At night I sleep with the kid or in the kennel with the other dog. I don't do well sleeping alone and will cry and scratch at the kennel if left by myself to sleep. If the humans must be away, I will cry and bark in the crate and will chew on the furniture if left to roam. When outside I do not attempt to jump fences/gates but am curious what is under the grass and will dig to find out. I am scared of water, baths, being alone, and being left outside too long due to having a heat stroke in the past. Some of my favorite things are riding in the car, chewing on toys, playing fetch, toys, being outside, cuddles, love, smiling when I want something, hitting the humans with my paws when I want something, nudge and paw the food container when it's time to eat, being in the human's lap, and dog treats! If you think I would make a great addition to your family, contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you!

8. Lucy Lou II
Young · Female · Boxer · 33 mi from San Marcos

11/2/2026Lucy Lou II is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Lucy Lou II! I am a beautiful 1 year old flashy fawn girl that is an owner surrender due to my owner being a truck driver and not having the time for me and life on the road is not ideal for me. I am described as friendly, active, smart, noisy, and playful! I do not live with other dogs but it is said that I am dog friendly. I do not live with cats or kids, so it is uncertain if I am cat or kid friendly. I do jump on people because I get very excited so my caretaker says I may not be a good fit for a family with small children.

I know basic commands, am house trained, but would need assistance with crate training if that is required in my forever home. I eat Healthy Choice puppy food from Tractor Supply and at night I sleep in the bed or recliner with the humans. I do sleep on my dog bed, but that is a very rare occasion. If the humans must be away, I am good but I have never been left alone for more than 2 hours. When outside I have good behavior and do not dig or attempt to jump fences/gates. I am fearful of fireworks and do not like being told no, getting too hot, or being crated/locked in confined spaces. Some of my favorite things are riding in the car, tire with rope toy, squeaky toys, chewing on plastic bottles, catching water from the hose, sleeping by the humans feet or under the blankets, 'argue' or 'talk back' when I don't' get what I want, playing with dogs my size, and treats! If you think I would make a great addition to your family contact the rescue today because I am waiting to meet you!

I am a beautiful 4 year old flashy fawn girl that is an owner surrender due to my owner getting divorced, selling their home, and unable to keep me. I am described as friendly, active, playful, and affectionate! I grew up with another boxer, tiny terrier, and a frenchie and am said to be dog friendly with them. I recently met a senior dog and I wanted to be the boss of her and could benefit from more training, especially since I'm eager to please! I currently live with a cat and will bark at it when it is out of my reach but I can see it.

14. Pele
Adult · Male · Boxer · 33 mi from San Marcos

Hi! My name is Pele! I am a handsome 2-3 year old flashy fawn boy that has a super goofy and loveable personality and enjoys life! I love to play fetch, sprint around the backyard, going on walks followed by cuddles and affection, preferably in the human's lap! I have great house manners and do not beg or counter surf. Sometimes if I am bored or not getting sufficient attention, I will bring a random shoe or stuffed animal to the humans but am not destructive. I am house trained, crate trained, and leash trained! I currently live with an older lady dog and we get along well together. While on walks I am not phased by other dogs and have been fine and chill with other pups I've met! There are 3 kids in my foster home (ages 11-16 years) and I am good with them and all of their friends that come to visit! My foster family thinks I would be friendly with younger kids, but might be a bit rambunctious and they might get 'love taps' with my enthusiastic tail! As for cats, I was introduced to a neighbor cat and I was very intent on keeping an eye on it, so I may do best in a cat free home.

I currently live with cats and we are said to get along well! Sometimes we snuggle and I like to playfully chase them off if they drink from my water. I currently live with a 14 year old kid and my owner says I would do best with older kids. When new people come in the home I will bark at them because I am protective of my humans. I am house trained, crate trained, eat Royal Canin Boxer food, and sleep on the couch or human bed at night. If the humans must be away, I have learned to calm myself and will mostly sleep awaiting their arrival. When outside I have good behavior and do not dig or attempt to jump fences/gates. When scolded I cower and get very scared so positive reinforcement works great for me! I'm fearful of thunderstorms and I do need anxiety meds when experiencing new things or during stressful situations. I love riding in the car, greenies, bully sticks, belly and neck scratches, following the humans around when cleaning or doing yardwork, and staring at the humans intensely until they give in to what I want! 19. Blanca
Adult · Female · Rat Terrier (short coat) · 46 mi from San Marcos

Welcome Blanca to CCPAL Rescue. She is a 2 year old Rat Terrier mix. She came in from a hoarding situation. We received 3 dogs from this case. One was adopted already and one had to go to a specialized trainer in another Rescue. Blanca has started opening up and allowing people to pet her and hold her. She never got any attention in her original home, the hoarder. She is good with other dogs and causes no issues. She is kennel trained and her response to being afraid is to run and hide. She is a timid girl and not the social butterfly. She would be perfect with a person that is more introverted and wants a pet that is also similar. Blanca would be satisfied being at home with you all the time. A small walk in the yard would be fine. She until now, has not walked on leash. She is learning to do it at our Rescue. She would like a patient owner and a quieter home. An older couple or older single person would be great. Someone with a quieter home. She would be fine kenneled away if you had a party or people over. She is not very vocal and prefers to blend into the woodwork. She is really a great dog for the right family. She is getting her vaccinations, nail trims and will be spayed soon and ready for her forever home. She could be adopted locally in Texas or we could work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. . Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

When outside I have good behavior and do not dig or attempt to jump fences/gates! Some of my favorite things are riding in the car, naps, and laying on the couch! If you think I would make a great addition to your family, contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you!

10/2/2026Kirby is an owner surrender looking for a new home.Hi! My name is Kirby! I am a beautiful 6-year-old flashy fawn girl that is an owner surrender due to my current family unable to care for me. I am described as friendly, active, protective, playful, affectionate, and nervous! I am picky when it comes to my dog friends so a proper meet and greet is recommended. I currently live with two cats and I get along great with them! I currently live with a 16-month-old child and get along well with kids, but can get nervous if they are too rambunctious around me. I like to have boundaries and people and animals respect them.

24. Daisy
Adult · Female · French Bulldog (short coat) · 46 mi from San Marcos

Welcome Daisy to CCPAL foster program. Daisy is a 4-year Frenchie (French Bulldog). She has been a breeder dog and the breeder is no longer going to use her so she is now looking for her forever home. This awful in our eyes, but we are happy to find Daisy a real forever home where she can be loved and cherished and doted on. She is a wonderful dog. She is good with other dogs, potty trained, not too active, not too vocal and does good with children. She is getting her spay surgery with CCPAL. She is current on vaccinations and will also get her heartworm test. She has lived in a house so she knows the rules and structure of living with a family.

She is beautiful inside and out and we cannot believe anyone could give up a dog this fantastic. We would love someone that knows this breed. She has the shortened nose so this breed cannot tolerate heat well. Anyone that has had a Frenchie knows this. She would be fine with a moderately active family. She can go with children as well. We like them to be 8 or older. She is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally. We can work with one of the wonderful transporter to help her get to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

25. Pickles
Female · Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Black Mouth Cur (short coat) · 46 mi from San Marcos

Welcome Pickles to CCPAL Rescue. Pickles is a 2 year old. She is a small Terrier/Black Mouth Cur is our best guess. She is a medium sized dog that weighs 28 pounds. She is full grown and she was found on the streets with her puppies. She is a great momma dog. She is friendly to people she knows and trusts and warms up slowly to new people. She will be a great alert dog for an older couple or someone that is home alone and wants to feel that the dog has your back. She has never shown aggression but she does bark when things are out of the ordinary or someone she doesn’t know has arrived. She would be best for at least a moderately active family. I would think someone with a more quiet home that wants a loyal companion to join the group. She has a short coat and not a huge shedder. She is good with other dogs and has been off leash with a number in play groups here at CCPAL. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. She is getting spayed soon, all her vaccinations, heartworm negative and will be ready for her forever home in a week or two. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

29. Priscilla Prissy
Puppy · Black Mouth Cur / Labrador Retriever (medium coat) · 46 mi from San Marcos

Watch Priscilla Prissy's video
Welcome Priscilla “Prissy” to CCPAL Rescue. Priscilla is a 10-week-old sweetie. Lab/Black Mouth Cur mix is our best guess. She should be a medium sized dog 28 pounds or less. He is sturdy and has longer legs then her stubby legged brother. Her mom is Pickles and she is also medium sized. She is getting lots of attention at the Rescue and she is social, good with other dogs, good in a crate, learning wee pad manners and is over all a very nice puppy. The kennel staff usually bathe and clip toenails on a regular basis as well. She will be fine with grooming. She has a soft fluffy coat and adorable expressions. She was found as a stray with her mom who is Pickles. She is getting all 3 sets of his puppy vaccinations and will be spayed soon. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Prissy would be fine in a family with children. We like them to be 8 or older. A puppy is always best with someone that is not gone all day every day. A puppy needs to bond with his humans and to go places to remain and grow up to be a well-rounded dog. Priscilla will also need to finish her puppy training. She would be great in a doggy daycare as she gets time playing off leash with other puppies her size. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

Welcome Toby to CCPAL Rescue. Toby is a 6-year old Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix). Toby lost his owner in death and the immediate family live on a farm with farm animals. They worry about his safety with those animals so they turned him over along with another dog for rehoming. We are happy to have Toby. He is outgoing, good on a leash, good with people including strangers. He weighs 13 pounds and is potty trained. He is learning to be crated and is a lovely dog. He will be with us while we look for his new forever home. He is neutered and will get all his vaccines all current while he awaits his new family to fall in love with his photo and video online.

Adopting a dog with children in San Marcos
Bring the whole family to meet the dog before you adopt, and ask the rescue how the dog behaves around children your kids' ages.
Teach children to let the dog come to them, to stroke gently, and to leave the dog alone while it's eating or sleeping. Give the dog a bed or crate of their own to retreat to, and always supervise young children with a new dog.
Relaxed adult dogs are often a better match for young children than puppies, which jump up, nip and chew while they learn.
