1. Josie

Puppy · Female · Chihuahua / Pug (short coat)

Welcome Josie to CCPAL Rescue. Josie is a Chug (Chihuahua/Pug) puppy. She weighs 4 pounds and is 9 weeks old. She will be a small dog full grown. She should be 12 pounds or less. She is very sweet and has an adorable rounded head. She likes to be held, is good in a crate, goes on a wee pad and loves to play with toys. She was born at the Rescue. They took in a stray female and she was pregnant. This means the puppies get lots of attention and are very used to being in a loud and rowdy environment. Josie would be best in a home that the person doesn’t work all day every day. She needs to finish up her puppy training. Social pups make great adults and now is the time for her to spend time with her family and to go places and let people pet her. She is an AMAZING puppy. She would be fine with children. Due to her small size, we would like children to be 8 or older. She is getting her puppy vaccines and will have 3. She will then be ready for spay and adoption. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

Puppy · Male · Dachshund / Chihuahua (short coat)

Welcome Dudley to CCPAL Rescue. Dudley is a 5- pound Chiweenie. That is Dashchund/Chihuahua. He is 10 weeks old. He has a beautiful fawn and black fade coloration. He looks like Bonnie but he is a little taller and has down ears. He has a little longer legs and body. He is good in a crate, likes to be held. He is learning the wee pad and gets toys and treats from our adopters. He will get grooming and nail trims at the rescue so he will be fine with that. He would be a great dog for a lover of this breed. A smaller yard would be fine. He would be fine in a doggy daycare as he is very social. He was found as a stray. He is getting neutered and all his vaccinations at the Rescue. He is ready for his forever home. He would be best in a home with someone that doesn’t work all day everyday as he will need to finish up his puppy training. He would also be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older. 3. Clover

Puppy · Female · Dachshund / Chihuahua (short coat)

Welcome Clover to CCPAL Rescue. Clover is a 4.5-pound Chiweenie. She happens to look more Dachshund than Chihuahua. That is Dachshund/Chihuahua. She is 10 weeks old. She has a fawn coat that is a little longer than the typical short coat. She has a little longer body and both ears hang long and low. She is good in a crate, likes to be held. She is learning the wee pad and gets toys and treats from our adopters. She will get grooming and nail trims at the rescue so she will be fine with that. She would be a great dog for a lover of this breed. A smaller yard would be fine. Dashchund and Chihuahua are typically vocal but if you raise as a puppy and correct her by saying “no” this should help as an adult.

She would be fine in a doggy daycare as she is very social. Right now, I would say she is very sweet and very cuddly. People who have had this breed love it for the loyalty to their human. She is getting spayed and all her vaccinations at the Rescue. She is ready for her forever home. She would be best in a home with someone that doesn’t work all day everyday as she will need to finish up her puppy training. She would also be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older due to her small size and trusting nature. A house with less stairs and less split levels would be best for her. She is currently in the CCPAL Rescue in Texas. 7. Charlie

Adult · Poodle (Miniature) (medium coat)

This funny looking guy is CHARLIE, a 15 pound, 3 year old miniature poodle. His colors may look different but it just makes him unique. His curly coat is soft and he takes a bath well and does well at the groomers
CHARLIE was owner surrendered to us by a young lady who could not take care of him any longer. I am told he gets along with cats but I do not have any so I cannot vouch for that.
He is full grown and will not get any bigger. He gets along with the other foster dogs and plays well with everyone. He does like to hang around me but he is also independent, just happy roaming around the house and laying on a doggy bed and watching the activities.
If you are interested in adopting CHARLIE please submit an application on the website below. Feel free to call anytime. Thank you.

8. Milo

Young · Maltese / Poodle (Toy) / Mixed (medium coat)

This little cutie is MILO, 10 pounds and 6 months old Maltipoo. We do not expect him to exceed 13 pounds as an adult. His coat is cotton soft and his temperament is just as soft. A kind hearted and playful little guy who gets along with all of the foster dogs. I do not have cats so I am not sure how he would behave around them.
MILO was found hiding in the bushes by Good Samaritans and turned into ACS, our very high kill shelter. I immediately stepped forward to rescue him and I am so happy. MILO is the type that just makes your heart melt. It is the cutest thing to watch him sit on his butt and beg you to come pet him. He sleeps with me and I barely know he is there because he doesn't move or get in the way.

12. Windy October

4 Years · Female · Dachshund / Mixed

Windy October is a pretty wire haired dachshund mix. She is the mama to Dusty and Gusty. She and her family were owner surrendered to an animal shelter. Windy is about 4 years old and while she is shy, she is very loving and loves to be held and cuddled. She will let you carry her like a baby all day if you want to! She likes to be in the same room as you are and will follow you around.

Read more about Windy October

Windy loves being outside and sunbathing. She also likes sleeping on the couch beside you. She likes to play with her foster Mom and also likes to play with the other dogs in her foster home!! Windy is like a puppy, very playful! The foster Mom thinks she would be good with kids since she has gotten so calm and has been very sweet. She is no longer so scared at her foster home, she just may need a little time to trust her new environment!

Windy has now been spayed and her puppies are old enough to be without her now. They will be going into their new homes very soon.

13. Cosmos Finn

2 Years · Male · Dachshund / Mixed

Meet Cosmos Finn. He and several others were were surrendered to a shelter. One of our volunteers saw them and asked if we could help. Cosmos is estimated to be 2 years old. and only 12 pounds. They are believed to be wire haired dachshund mixes. We were told possibly wire haired dachshund/schnauzer mixes. Cosmos was pretty shut down when he first went into his foster home but is coming out of his shell and showing his personality. He can be nervous/shy with meeting new people and may try to hide but once he warms up to you he is a love bug! He will be your shadow, he wants to have you in his sight.

Read more about Cosmos Finn

He is good with other dogs and is already playing with the dogs in his foster home. He will just need a home that gives him a little time to warm up and to understand he has been through a lot but is totally worth the wait. Another playful confident dog would help him to trust quicker and someone that is home more often would be good too. Cosmos is housebroken, loves snuggles and his kennel is his safety place when needed. He might be ok with older kids that will give him a little time, not sure he would do well with littles. If he sounds like the dog for you, put your application in today!

14. Freda

Young · Female · Border Terrier / Norfolk Terrier / Mixed (medium coat)

FREDA is a 9 month old, 9 pounds terrier of some sort. We really cannot figure out what she is mixed with. I probably should do a DNA test on her. She looks just like her mother who is a few pounds smaller. FREDA was owner surrendered as the pregnancy was an accident litter.
The word that comes to me when I think about FREDA is "soft", her coat is soft, her attitude/temperament is soft, she takes treats soft, she plays soft and her overall behavior is just soft. She is a sweetheart of a dog who plays with all of the other foster dogs, she is kind of submissive but not timid as she wrestles and can hold her on while playing.
FREDA loves everyone, gives kisses and loves to snuggle even when there is really no space around my legs, she squeezes in and find a spot! I will have to get better pictures of her but she is always moving and playing.

Read more about Freda

She would make a great family dog, she will remain a small breed scruffy dog.
There are no cats in the home so we do not know how she would get along with them but she is just super soft so we cannot imagine her not getting along with a cat, she'll probably try to play with a cat.
If you would like to adopt FREDA, please submit an application on the website below. Feel free to call me anytime. Thank you.

15. Cisco

Adult · Male · Poodle (Miniature) (medium coat)

CISCO is ready for his own home and what a sweet boy you will be getting. He is 3 years old and a mere 14 pounds and fully grown. Just a sweet guy who wants love and loves nothing better than hanging out with his human. Although CISCO is in a home with other dogs, he can be dog selective and for that reason we are asking that he be the only dog in the home.
He gets along great with small kids, he plays and gives soft kisses.
He walks well on a leash and rides in the car without getting sick. He obeys well and is crate trained. Because there are several dogs in the home he is crated when there are no adults in the home so we are not sure how he does left alone on his own but he is not a chewer and does not bother things that are not dog related.
CISCO would love to have a human to give him attention and love and he will reward you with devotion and gratitude.

He does very well being groomed and bathed and he will need to have his curly coat groomed every 6-8 weeks.
The home does not have any cats so we are not sure how he would do with them. If you are interested in adopting CISCO, please submit an application on the website below. Thank you.

16. Duke

Adult · Male · Rottweiler (short coat)

Looking for a fabulous family dog? Look no further, DUKE is your dude!!! Seriously this is a great family pet who loves kids and his people. We are in disbelief at his cool and calm temperament, soooo cool and calm. He has been tested around some dogs that are dog reactive and bark, bark, bark. DUKE never flinches or acknowledges they are even there, they get in his face and DUKE just turns around and goes in the other direction.
DUKE is 4 years old and 80 pounds, a few pounds underweight but he is making up for it. DUKE was found in a subdivision next to his own subdivision. He is microchipped and every attempt was made to reach his family by social media, phone, text and even visited his home but they would not respond.

Read more about Duke

So we are like okay let us see why they no longer want DUKE. But DUKE is perfect really a perfect pet. In several weeks we have not found any faults except he just loves to hang with his humans and that is a great fault.
He is not aggressive in any area and do not resource guard things or humans and of course he gets along with everyone. He had a growth on his eye that has been removed and that is why his right eye looks a little hinky. He is healthy in all areas, walks great on a leash without pulling, just walks right beside you at your pace and he rides in a car without getting sick, jumps right in.
If you want to spend your days hanging out with a happy companion pet, DUKE is your guy. If you are interested in adopting DUKE, please submit an application on the website below or contact his foster mom. Thank you.

17. Blanca

Adult · Female · Rat Terrier (short coat)

Welcome Blanca to CCPAL Rescue. She is a 2 year old Rat Terrier mix. She came in from a hoarding situation. We received 3 dogs from this case. One was adopted already and one had to go to a specialized trainer in another Rescue. Blanca has started opening up and allowing people to pet her and hold her. She never got any attention in her original home, the hoarder. She is good with other dogs and causes no issues. She is kennel trained and her response to being afraid is to run and hide. She is a timid girl and not the social butterfly. She would be perfect with a person that is more introverted and wants a pet that is also similar. Blanca would be satisfied being at home with you all the time. A small walk in the yard would be fine. She until now, has not walked on leash. She is learning to do it at our Rescue. She would like a patient owner and a quieter home. An older couple or older single person would be great. Someone with a quieter home. She would be fine kenneled away if you had a party or people over. She is not very vocal and prefers to blend into the woodwork. She is really a great dog for the right family. She is getting her vaccinations, nail trims and will be spayed soon and ready for her forever home. She could be adopted locally in Texas or we could work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. . Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

She can be a little wary of new people, especially men, but give this girl a little patience and a chance to feel safe and you might just become her whole world! Her foster mom only needed a day to win her over and now Luna is her shadow, personal cheerleader and professional kiss distributor! She celebrates her foster mom's return from work with happy dances and thinks mealtime is absolutely worth throwing a party over.

Adult · Female · French Bulldog (short coat)

Welcome Daisy to CCPAL foster program. Daisy is a 4-year Frenchie (French Bulldog). She has been a breeder dog and the breeder is no longer going to use her so she is now looking for her forever home. This awful in our eyes, but we are happy to find Daisy a real forever home where she can be loved and cherished and doted on. She is a wonderful dog. She is good with other dogs, potty trained, not too active, not too vocal and does good with children. She is getting her spay surgery with CCPAL. She is current on vaccinations and will also get her heartworm test. She has lived in a house so she knows the rules and structure of living with a family.

She is beautiful inside and out and we cannot believe anyone could give up a dog this fantastic. We would love someone that knows this breed. She has the shortened nose so this breed cannot tolerate heat well. Anyone that has had a Frenchie knows this. She would be fine with a moderately active family. She can go with children as well. We like them to be 8 or older. She is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally. We can work with one of the wonderful transporter to help her get to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. 21. Bailey Boo

Adult (3 years 7 months) · Female · Dachshund (short coat)

Bailey Boo is a 6-year-old sweetheart with a big personality and a whole lot of love to give! At 18.5–19 lbs, she's a little on the fluffy side (okay, maybe a lot!), so she's officially starting her weight-loss journey to get down to her goal weight.

Read more about Bailey Boo

Bailey knows what she likes and isn't afraid to show it! She does well in large crowds and will try to steal some attention from you or your guests! She's an absolute sweetheart and cuddle bug with the people she knows and loves. With that being said, she is a little more reserved and may take a little longer to warm up with men. She's great with dogs of all sizes and enjoys having other pups around. She need at least one dog friend that will keep her company when you are busy or gone from home. She's also comfortable sleeping in a kennel with other dogs or alone and seems to do well with potty training so far!

We're still figuring out how she feels about cats, but she may be a little intimidated by them. Bailey is looking for a loving home that understands she may need a little time to warm up. In return, you'll get a devoted little girl who loves attention, enjoys the company of other dogs, and has plenty of personality to keep you smiling!

22. Pickles

Female · Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Black Mouth Cur (short coat)

Welcome Pickles to CCPAL Rescue. Pickles is a 2 year old. She is a small Terrier/Black Mouth Cur is our best guess. She is a medium sized dog that weighs 28 pounds. She is full grown and she was found on the streets with her puppies. She is a great momma dog. She is friendly to people she knows and trusts and warms up slowly to new people. She will be a great alert dog for an older couple or someone that is home alone and wants to feel that the dog has your back. She has never shown aggression but she does bark when things are out of the ordinary or someone she doesn’t know has arrived. She would be best for at least a moderately active family. I would think someone with a more quiet home that wants a loyal companion to join the group. She has a short coat and not a huge shedder. She is good with other dogs and has been off leash with a number in play groups here at CCPAL. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. She is getting spayed soon, all her vaccinations, heartworm negative and will be ready for her forever home in a week or two. Her adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

23. Maverick

Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Dachshund (short coat)

Welcome Maverick to CCPAL Foster Program. Maverick is a 4-year-old Chiweenie. He weighs about 19 pounds. He is good on a leash, good in a car. He is potty trained and very loyal to his person. He knows “go for a walk”, “stop”, “leave it”, “It’s the neighbor” and a few other commands. He is in a home and the owner is having some very big financial issues and need to find Maverick a new home. Maverick has some allergies to food and the food that he can is a Duck and Potato kibble. He has some allergies to grass. He has taken Apoquel successfully to handle the allergies. He warms up slowly and is very loyal and bonded once he has bonded. He would be great for a senior couple or single wanting a companion. A nice yard for him to get exercise in would be nice or someone that could have the time to take him on a couple of walks would be great. He isn’t the social butterfly that some dogs are so a matching owner would be the best fit. He would be a great dog to alert you to someone at the door or something being off in the environment. He is good on walks and would help a senior be more active. He is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. He could go with children but we would like them to be teens. I think a quieter home would be best for this boy. His adoption fee is $400 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

24. Priscilla Prissy

Puppy · Black Mouth Cur / Labrador Retriever (medium coat)

Welcome Priscilla “Prissy” to CCPAL Rescue. Priscilla is a 10-week-old sweetie. Lab/Black Mouth Cur mix is our best guess. She should be a medium sized dog 28 pounds or less. He is sturdy and has longer legs then her stubby legged brother. Her mom is Pickles and she is also medium sized. She is getting lots of attention at the Rescue and she is social, good with other dogs, good in a crate, learning wee pad manners and is over all a very nice puppy. The kennel staff usually bathe and clip toenails on a regular basis as well. She will be fine with grooming. She has a soft fluffy coat and adorable expressions. She was found as a stray with her mom who is Pickles. She is getting all 3 sets of his puppy vaccinations and will be spayed soon. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Prissy would be fine in a family with children. We like them to be 8 or older. A puppy is always best with someone that is not gone all day every day. A puppy needs to bond with his humans and to go places to remain and grow up to be a well-rounded dog. Priscilla will also need to finish her puppy training. She would be great in a doggy daycare as she gets time playing off leash with other puppies her size. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

26. Toby

Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Dachshund (short coat)

Welcome Toby to CCPAL Rescue. Toby is a 6-year old Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix). Toby lost his owner in death and the immediate family live on a farm with farm animals. They worry about his safety with those animals so they turned him over along with another dog for rehoming. We are happy to have Toby. He is outgoing, good on a leash, good with people including strangers. He weighs 13 pounds and is potty trained. He is learning to be crated and is a lovely dog. He will be with us while we look for his new forever home. He is neutered and will get all his vaccines all current while he awaits his new family to fall in love with his photo and video online.

This little guy FELIX just checks all of the boxes. He is a great playmate companion to another dog as well as a good cuddler to a human. He is great at walking on the leash and does not get car sick. FELIX is happy, happy, happy and always seems to have a smile on his face.

28. Snow

Adult · Shih Tzu (medium coat)

Monday, September 21, 2026, SNOW is still available.
Awww, SNOW is one of my favorite in my home. He is a 8 year young, 12 pound Shih Tzu, male. He is just happy go lucky all the time. He runs outside to potty with the other dogs and afterwards comes back to the door to get in. I do not have a doggy door, nor do I have any cats so I do not know how he would do with them but he is really a chill type of guy.
Sometimes he sunbathes for a few minutes or sits on the deck to watch the other dogs play. I have even seen him play every now and then. Very routine type of guy, crate, potty and house trained.

Read more about Snow

The name SNOW is what his microchip is registered under even though that name just does not fit him and I try not to call him by that name just in case his new owners would like to change it.
SNOW was found on the streets very neglected with matting and skinny from trying to fend for himself, I wanted to cry when I got him. Then I got happy for a brief moment as he had a microchip and I contacted the owners who never responded to my phone calls, text or emails. I cannot imagine why they would not want SNOW as he is the perfect dog, he has not given me one moment of trouble. This is a really special guy. And that underbite just makes him more unique.

29. Panda

Adult · Male · Papillon / Mixed (medium coat)

This spunky looking guy is just that, full of spunk and fun and ready to enjoy life in a new home. This is PANDA, a 5 year old, 11 pound Papillon mix with well you make a guess at what he is mixed with. He is a mix of happiness and fun. Gets along with all of the dogs, crate and potty, house trained. He is a routine kind of guy and very independent but he likes to be in the same room you are in just so he can keep an eye on you!
PANDA rides in the car without getting sick and walks very well on a leash. He was found on the streets with no microchip and very neglected and matted. He has been a great addition to my home as he is easy to care for and he gets along with all of the dogs, large and small.
He would love to meet you! If you are interested in adopting PANDA, please submit an application on the website below or feel free to call me. Thank you.

30. Amanda

Adult · Female · Poodle (Standard) (medium coat)

AMANDA is a beautiful AKC Registered Parti-Poodle, Standard. She is 5 years old and 50 pounds. This is a very well behaved dog who walks great on a leash and rides in the car without getting sick, she just looks out of the window. My 10 year old granddaughter was able to handle her on a daily basis with ease.
AMANDA lost her human mom and was rehomed along with her sister to people who just did not want to care for her so they surrendered her to our organization.
She makes a great companion and gets along with larger dogs but she should not be in a home with smaller breed dogs, other than that she plays very well with medium and large breed dogs.

I do not have any cats in my home so I do not know how she would react to them.
These pictures do not show how beautiful and kind hearted she is. I will try to take more that show how amazing she is.

Adopting a dog in Wilson County

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
