1. Windy October
4 Years · Female · Dachshund / Mixed

Windy October is a pretty wire haired dachshund mix. She is the mama to Dusty and Gusty. She and her family were owner surrendered to an animal shelter. Windy is about 4 years old and while she is shy, she is very loving and loves to be held and cuddled. She will let you carry her like a baby all day if you want to! She likes to be in the same room as you are and will follow you around.

Windy loves being outside and sunbathing. She also likes sleeping on the couch beside you. She likes to play with her foster Mom and also likes to play with the other dogs in her foster home!! Windy is like a puppy, very playful! The foster Mom thinks she would be good with kids since she has gotten so calm and has been very sweet. She is no longer so scared at her foster home, she just may need a little time to trust her new environment!
Windy has now been spayed and her puppies are old enough to be without her now. They will be going into their new homes very soon.

2. Cosmos Finn
2 Years · Male · Dachshund / Mixed

Meet Cosmos Finn. He and several others were were surrendered to a shelter. One of our volunteers saw them and asked if we could help. Cosmos is estimated to be 2 years old. and only 12 pounds. They are believed to be wire haired dachshund mixes. We were told possibly wire haired dachshund/schnauzer mixes. Cosmos was pretty shut down when he first went into his foster home but is coming out of his shell and showing his personality. He can be nervous/shy with meeting new people and may try to hide but once he warms up to you he is a love bug! He will be your shadow, he wants to have you in his sight.

He is good with other dogs and is already playing with the dogs in his foster home. He will just need a home that gives him a little time to warm up and to understand he has been through a lot but is totally worth the wait. Another playful confident dog would help him to trust quicker and someone that is home more often would be good too. Cosmos is housebroken, loves snuggles and his kennel is his safety place when needed. He might be ok with older kids that will give him a little time, not sure he would do well with littles. If he sounds like the dog for you, put your application in today!

3. Luna Belle
Adult (3 years 9 months) · Female · Dachshund (short coat)

Luna Belle is a 3-year-old girl who's been on a bit of a journey to find her forever home. After bouncing between several homes in her young life, she's still learning that not every stranger is a stranger forever. She can be a little wary of new people, especially men, but give this girl a little patience and a chance to feel safe and you might just become her whole world! Her foster mom only needed a day to win her over and now Luna is her shadow, personal cheerleader and professional kiss distributor! She celebrates her foster mom's return from work with happy dances and thinks mealtime is absolutely worth throwing a party over.

When she isn't busy being the world's most enthusiastic fan, she's more than happy to curl up for some quality snuggle time. Luna gets along with other small dogs and enjoys having friends to play with, but she's just as content soaking up one-on-one time with her favorite human. She's also working on her potty training as she adjusts from apartment life to living in a house. What Luna wants most is a place to finally call home--a family who understands that trust takes time and is willing to help her discover that new people can bring good things, too. She may need a little extra patience when meeting strangers but the love she gives in return is something special. Could you be the person who shows Luna Belle that she's finally home for good?

I came from the very south edge of Texas. I love taking walks, cuddling in a pile of blankets, snuggling with my human, riding in the car, playing with toys, wrestling with fellow foster dogs, and getting treats! I can sleep in a kennel or squish beside my human in the big bed. I love making new friends whether they be human, canine, or feline. And I'm a true gentleman in a harness and leash and do my business outside.

5. Bailey Boo
Adult (3 years 7 months) · Female · Dachshund (short coat)

Bailey Boo is a 6-year-old sweetheart with a big personality and a whole lot of love to give! At 18.5–19 lbs, she's a little on the fluffy side (okay, maybe a lot!), so she's officially starting her weight-loss journey to get down to her goal weight.
Read more about Bailey Boo
Bailey knows what she likes and isn't afraid to show it! She does well in large crowds and will try to steal some attention from you or your guests! She's an absolute sweetheart and cuddle bug with the people she knows and loves. With that being said, she is a little more reserved and may take a little longer to warm up with men. She's great with dogs of all sizes and enjoys having other pups around. She need at least one dog friend that will keep her company when you are busy or gone from home. She's also comfortable sleeping in a kennel with other dogs or alone and seems to do well with potty training so far!
We're still figuring out how she feels about cats, but she may be a little intimidated by them. Bailey is looking for a loving home that understands she may need a little time to warm up. In return, you'll get a devoted little girl who loves attention, enjoys the company of other dogs, and has plenty of personality to keep you smiling!

Maxwell Cooper is a cute little 7 year old dachshund and chihuahua mix. He is white with some red, short hair. He weighs about 9 lbs. Max's owner passed away and he and his 2 brothers (not related) came to Diamond Dachshund Rescue. Max likes to be outside in the mornings before it gets too hot. He likes exploring the yard. He doesn't run and chase but likes to go where the other dogs are. Max came from a loving home and you can tell. Max loves laying on his foster mom's lap and napping. He is a cuddler and likes to be kissed. He sleeps on the big bed too! He really is a good and easy going boy!

7. Chloe Rae
Adult (9 months) · Female · Dachshund / Basset Hound / Mixed (short coat)

Chloe Rae is an 9-month-old puppy who needed a miracle - and got one. After spending over eight agonizing hours trapped in a ditch, a hero rescuer brought her to safety, and arrangements were quickly made to bring her to DDRTX.
Read more about Chloe Rae
Following a long trip from South Texas, Chloe Rae went straight to our vet. Along with her puppy shots, microchip, and heartworm preventative, her X-rays revealed the source of her severe pain and limp: multiple pelvic fractures and a broken femur. To give her the best chance at a pain-free life, she underwent a Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) surgery after letting her fractures heal for a month. Her surgery was a success. We know what you're thinking... but we believe she is a "bashund" - basset on the outside, dachshund on the inside! At 22 pounds of pure sweetness, Chloe Rae loves cuddling, exploring, and playing with her foster dog brother (a DDRTX alum!) and foster cat sister. She’s already learned to sit, wait patiently for her meals, walk nicely on a leash, and sleep soundly in her kennel (though she certainly won't turn down a nap in the big bed). She is still working on housetraining. Since she has come into rescue, she was confined with limited movements until surgery and then again while recovering. She was confined for awhile and we had to give her time to heal before worrying about everything else. She has learned so much already!

8. Coco Button
Senior (15 years 3 months) · Male · Dachshund (short coat)

Look at this handsome frosty face! My name is CoCo Button, I weigh in at 8 lbs and I'm about 15 years old, but I'm young at heart!
I came to DDR after my mom was no longer able to care for me. My foster mom says I'm about the sweetest, most calm little guy she's ever seen. I have lots going for me....I'm house trained and crate trained, I can either sleep in the big bed or on my floor bed. I don't much care for playing with toys....I'm much more interested in my snacks! I get along with other pups but I'm not sure about cats. I would love to be in a home where someone is home much of the time as this is what I'm used to.

9. Rio Miles
Adult (2 years 3 months) · Male · Dachshund / Mixed (short coat)

Rio Miles is a 13 pound Chi-weenie with the heart of a puppy and enough love to last a lifetime. Although the vet estimates he's around 2 years old, you'd never know it from his playful, goofy personality and endless enthusiasm for life. Rio loves to play with his toys--especially anything he can happily chew on--and while he's mostly learned that toys are for chewing, he still occasionally mistakes a sock for one. He's also an expert kisser and will happily shower you with affections until his tongue falls off! He's done great with dogs of all sizes. He knows how to use a dog door. When Rio was found he was underweight and covered in fleas, but those days are behind him.

He absolutely loves food and is already working hard on gaining back to a healthy weight! Just to be prepared to keep an eye on your own meals--Rio firmly believes that whatever you're eating must be just as good as what's in his bowl. If you're looking for a fun, affectionate little sidekick, who will keep you laughing, cover you in kisses and happily curl up with you after a day of play, Rio might just be your perfect match!
