TOBY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Toby Best Guess for Breed: Shitzu / Jack Russell Terrier
Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of Nov 2026 SEX: Male
Approximate Weight: 11.4 lbs

Read more about Toby
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We have tested Toby with some of the cats at the shelter, and he did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Toby could live with a cat, he has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack. Toby is not recommended for homes with children
Currently Living at: A DC area foster home
Special adoption considerations: Toby is not recommended for homes with children because he can be nippy when afraid or meeting new people.
About Toby: Meet Toby, an adorable 5-year-old Shih Tzu mix who's looking for a second chance at his happily ever after!
Toby was adopted in South Carolina, but just a few weeks later, his world was turned upside down when his adopter suffered an injury that required surgery and could no longer care for him. Through no fault of his own, Toby found himself back in rescue, hoping to find a family to call his own.
Toby is a sweet little guy who just needs a little time to feel comfortable with new people. He can be nervous when first meeting strangers and may nip if he feels scared or overwhelmed. But once he realizes you're a friend, his affectionate personality shines through! Toby warms up quickly and transforms into a loving little cuddle buddy who enjoys being close to his people.
The good news is that Toby gets along great with other dogs! He also did well with cats during his shelter cat test, suggesting he could be a good fit for a home with feline friends.
Because Toby can be fearful and may nip when nervous, he is not recommended for homes with children. He would do best in an adult-only home with patient adopters who understand that some dogs need a little extra time and space to build trust.
Toby has already experienced the disappointment of losing a home, and he's ready for a fresh start. With a little patience, kindness, and plenty of snuggles, this sweet boy will reward his new family with lots of love.
Could you be the one to give Toby the forever home he deserves?
What My Foster Says About Me: We'll update this section when Toby has spent more time with his foster.

Puppy (5 months 28 days) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 15 mi from Arlington

DOBBY IS A COURTESY POST - IF INTERESTED, EMAIL INFO@PETEY&FURENDS.ORG
Name: Dobby
Sex: Female
Estimated Age: About 6 months old (as of 10/27/26)
Best Guess for Breed: Terrier Mix
Weight: About 11-12 lbs (as of 10/27/26)
Lives with and loves: All people (including kids!) and other dogs
Housebroken? She’s working on it!
Read more about Dobby
Story: Dobby was found alone in a crate in a D.C. alley on a chilly morning without food, water, or a blanket. She’s being cared for by neighbors and has had her initial vaccines and vet checkup. She has likely spent her entire life confined to the crate and without appropriate nutrition which has resulted in some growth abnormalities in her legs that make walking a little difficult, though she’s getting stronger everyday. She has the sweetest, most affectionate disposition and has demonstrated remarkable resilience and curiosity now that she’s outside of the crate. She lives with two other small dogs and gets along well with them, though she doesn’t have enough strength for more physical play yet. She would thrive in a home with minimal stairs, maximal cuddles, and lots of love.
If you think that Dobby might be your perfect match, please email info@peteyandfurends.org.

Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!): 3.6lbs as of 10/25/26

Currently Living at: Puerto Rico shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area!
Read more about Dova
Special Adoption Considerations: Puppies under 6 months of age need to have multiple potty breaks/exercise throughout the day. Potential adopters with a standard 8-hour workday must be willing to make arrangements to meet the needs of their puppy.
Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Denzel would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.
Dova is Looking For: Hi! Me and my littermates - Denzel, Dexter, Dax, Darcy, and Didi, have loved our time in the puppy pile, but we have all split up to get our own homes. I'm looking for one where I get to explore the world by the side of my humans, burn all my young-dog energy in romps, make new pup pals - and go to dog school so I can show how super smart I am! In exchange I promise love and loyalty for all my days.
What My Foster Says About Me: Coming soon!
Puppy Vetting Requirements: Lucky Puppies have had their age appropriate vaccines, but may not yet be “fully” vaccinated. It is the adopter’s responsibility to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, they are at greater risk for illness than an adult dog.
Due to this puppy’s young age, she/he has not yet been spayed or neutered. As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than 2/28/2027. There are NO EXCEPTIONS and NO EXTENSIONS to this date. A non-refundable spay/neuter deposit will be collected if you would like Lucky Dog to pay for this animal to be spayed/neutered at one of our low cost partner vets.
Your new puppy will need to work on their house training and will also need to go to obedience school so they can grow into a well-socialized dog! TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this puppy is $485, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online bit.ly/adoptaluckydog

Name: GHOULIE Best Guess for Breed: BEAGLE/CATTLE DOG MIX
Best Guess for Age: 4 months as of 10/14/26 SEX: female
Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!): 8 pounds as of 10/23/26
Read more about Ghoulie
Gets Along With: Most puppies are in the prime of their socialization window and will do well with other dogs, cats and kids so long as they receive patience and proper training.
Currently Living at: SC SHELTER. Ghoulie needs a foster or forever home to come to the DC area!

GHOULIE is Looking For: Hello from the "Spooky Sweethearts" Litter--Ghost, Grimm, Gremlin, Ghoulie (me!), and Gore! Are you ready to add a little magic, mischief, and a whole lot of love to your life? Don’t let our spooky names fool you—we are puppies…sweet, happy, and ready to find our forever homes! Our breed mix tends to combine the best of both worlds: the merry, affectionate, scent-loving nature of the Beagle and the brilliant, loyal, active drive of the Australian Cattle Dog. Whether we are wrestling with a toy or curling up in a lap for a nap, our tails like to wag! We will thrive in homes committed to positive-reinforcement training, daily exercise, and mental stimulation. If you are ready for a lifetime of loyalty, laughter, and puppy kisses, apply to adopt us today!

Small dogs suit apartments and smaller homes, are easy to take along, and many live well into their teens.
They still need daily walks, play and training. Small dogs can be fragile, so ask the rescue how they are with young children, who can easily drop or step on them.
