2. Izzy
Adult · Female · Golden Retriever (medium coat) · 34 mi from Floyd

Izzy is a very special girl who needs a loving and understanding home. She is a 3 1/2 year old Golden Retriever.
Her owner got her from a shelter when she was a puppy. Her owner wasn't fond of her and then got really mad when she showed signs of food aggression. We got her out of that situation but 3.5 years is a long time to live with someone who doesn't really like you.
Izzy does have food aggression with other dogs but it is something that we are working on with a trainer. She needs a new home without kids and possibly no other dogs.

She also currently has Lyme disease that will make her sore and uncomfortable and maybe a little grumpy. We are looking for a foster home or a new forever home that understands a dog with food aggression and can help us train her that she will never be denied a meal.
he is a beautiful girl and very friendly when not around food. She deserves a second chance from her rough beginnings. If you would like to meet her please fill out an application from our website.

3. Pepper
Senior · Female · Anatolian Shepherd (medium coat) · 34 mi from Floyd

This sweet girl needs our help. Her owner is devastated but has no other option but to find her a new home.
Her name is Pepper and she is about 9 years old and weighs 35 pounds. Her breed is called a Middle Eastern village dog. Her owner rescued her from an agency that goes overseas and rescues dogs in Pakistan and Kuwait ,she is actually from Kuwait.
As you can see from her pictures she knows how to smile and have a good time. She is a little leary of men especially if they have sunglasses or a hat on. She is great with children and loves most other dogs, we would have to do a meet and greet before foster or adoption.

We don't know what her life was like before her owner got her and it is understandable that she is scared of gunshots and fireworks. All this is handled with some love and special hugs from everyone that cares for her.

Oliver is an adorable Aussie/Lab mix so we think? He was found as a stray so we don't have any idea who mom or dad is.
Oliver is about 11 weeks old right now and he is a smart little guy. He already knows how to sit and give paw. He is very curious about his surroundings and enjoys playing with other dogs. If you are paying attention he will bark at you to go outside to potty.

5. Biscuit
Adult · Male · Golden Retriever / Great Pyrenees / Mixed (long coat) · 34 mi from Floyd

Biscuit is a 5 year old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix, he weighs about 60 pounds.
We adopted Biscuit out to a lovely couple 3 years ago. Unfortunately they are having health issues and we need to find Biscuit a new home.
Biscuit's pros: Amazing with kids of all ages, doesn't bark unless absolutely necessary, good with other dogs, loves attention and is loyal.
Biscuit's con's: chases small animals like rabbits and squirrels, we are thinking no cats because of this, he is stubborn and afraid of thunder and fireworks. We said he is good with other dogs and he is but he can get protective with his owner when unknown dogs are around.

6. Meatball
Adult · Male · French Bulldog / English Bulldog / Mixed (short coat) · 34 mi from Floyd

Meatball is a 2 1/2 year old French/English Bulldog mix, (Frenglish breed) he weighs about 36 pounds. We rescued him from the shelter so we don't know how hard his past has been but he is such a happy boy.
Meatball is super sweet and just wants to be with his humans. He came to us with a very bad skin condition. His foster parents have done a wonderful job clearing that up and making him feel so much better. Meatball loves other dogs and is great with kids.

He will need a family that is experienced with French and English bulldog breeds since they can have a lot of health issues. Meatball is very special to us and we want him to be placed in the perfect home for him. He will need someone who is home often and has a safe fenced in yard where he can enjoy his potty and play time.
We will not be asking an adoption donation for the total of his vet bill because that is very high. Instead since he is considered a crossbreed (designer dog) we will be asking a $400 adoption donation to help pay down his vet bill.
If you would like to meet Meatball please fill out an application from our website.

7. Sasha
Adult · Female · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 34 mi from Floyd

Sasha is a 2 year old Terrier mix weighing in at 27.4 pounds. She was a stray and was picked up by animal control. She had been there for 18 days and they were running out of options so we scooped her up in hopes to find her a good home.
Sasha is a very sweet girl with a big heart. She loves other dogs and humans and just wants to please everyone. She is 2 years old and didn't know what a leash was so she is going to need a little work with a harness and leash. One of the volunteers at the shelter took her out to the creek and she did so wonderful with her and her little girl.

How to adopt from Surry Animal Rescue
We have a thorough adoption process that includes an adoption application, vet check (All current and past pets have to be current on vacs. and spayed/neutered), and home check (fence required for larger dogs, etc.). If those come out good and the adoption is finalized, there is an adoption fee that is paid and a contract is signed by the adopter stating that the animal must be routinely vetted and the animal is not allowed to go to any other home w/out the rescue's approval. All of our animals are spayed/neutered before adopting out and currenton vacs (as well as flea and HW meds).
Adopting a dog in Floyd
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
