4. Sophie

Young (4 months) · Female · Shepherd / Mixed (short coat) · 33 mi from Suffolk

Meet Victoria and Sophia! These two beautiful girls are 4 months old and have quite a story.

They were rescued as tiny babies from the streets of Puerto Rico. Their rescuer had originally planned to trap, spay, and release all four puppies because there simply aren't enough homes on the island. She released two, but when it came time to let Victoria and Sophia go, she just couldn't do it. Instead, she brought them home, raised them, and gave them the chance to find loving families of their own.

Read more about Sophie

Victoria looks like a tiny little (currently 12 lb) Shepherd and is expected to stay under 40 pounds full grown. Sophia has a beautiful brindle coat and is currently 16 pounds, so she may grow closer to 45 pounds.

Both girls are spayed, vaccinated, and on NexGard and Interceptor Plus. They walk nicely on a leash and are already learning their basic manners, including sit and stay. Their rescuer also speaks English, so we can share more about their time in her home and answer questions.

These girls were lucky enough to get a second chance. Now they just need families to make their futures complete!

Introducing Otto, the perfect pup! Weighing in at just 20 pounds and about 5 years old, Otto is looking for a home that is active, fun and loves to play. He is great with male and female adults, all aged kids, all sized dogs, and even cats. Otto is crate trained, house trained, and has learned how to be a snuggly indoor beagle boy, with no bad habits. Otto’s only requirement is for a person/family that will give him lots of attention and stuffies. This boy cherishes his toys!

9. Brad

Puppy (1 month 30 days) · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat) · 33 mi from Suffolk

Meet Barbie, Briana, Becky, and Brad! Four little lives that deserve a chance at a beautiful future.

These precious white puppies and their mama were found abandoned on the streets of Puerto Rico. Nothing breaks our hearts more than finding a new mom trying to survive while caring for her tiny babies with no safe place to call home.

Thankfully, we were able to bring the whole family into our network of care. Mama and her four little ones are now safe, and we are working through their veterinary protocol so the puppies can travel to the States when they are around 3 months old.

Read more about Brad

Mom is a small girl, so we suspect these babies will be on the smaller side, too. We will know more about their personalities and sizes as they grow and settle in.

In the meantime, they are in wonderful hands with a foster who incorporates humane education into her Puerto Rican middle school classroom! These puppies will have the opportunity to be well cared for, socialized, and introduced to a world of kindness as they prepare for their journey.

From the streets of Puerto Rico to the possibility of loving forever homes, their story is just beginning.

Stay tuned as Barbie, Briana, Becky, Brad, and their mama grow and get ready for their next chapter!

11. Jerry

Puppy (2 months 12 days) · Male · Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat) · 33 mi from Suffolk

Tom and Jerry need fosters! We thought we had a foster lined up but plans changed. Please let us know if you can help with these tiny sweethearts. These little boys are so good! They aren’t too demanding, they are playful and love to snuggle. Please message us if you can help.

Read more about Jerry

Tom and Jerry are two adorable white Chihuahua mix puppies who deserve a chance at the happy lives every puppy should have. These little boys were dumped on the streets of Puerto Rico as newborns after their owner discovered that their dog had given birth. Thankfully, they survived and are now getting the care they need to begin a new chapter. Their mama is only about 10 to 15 pounds, but since we don’t know who dad was, we can only guess what size these boys will be when they grow up! Our math says they will be 16-20 lbs full grown. Tom and Jerry are friendly little guys who love being around people. We promised their rescuer we would fly them to the States, where they would have the opportunity to find loving families and experience the safety, comfort, and security every dog deserves. Their story started with abandonment, but we hope the next chapter will be filled with love, soft beds, full bellies, and forever homes.

Bringing a dog home to your cat

Tell the rescue about your cat: their age and how they react to dogs. A dog who has lived calmly with one cat may still want to chase a cat that runs.

Introduce them slowly. Keep them apart for the first few days and swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior.

Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, like a high shelf or a room behind a baby gate, and keep the litter box and cat food out of the dog's way.
