Read more about Evie

Evie is a darling young girl. She came to us via a local puppy miller, very pregnant. Her mama duties are done, she's vetted, we've gotten to know her outside of being a mama and it's her time to be someone's baby. She is sweet, fairly active and good with dogs. She loves affection and attention but doesn't quite understand this lap dog stuff and won't stay there long. She looks like a perfect mix of toy poodle and maltese but she's the wrong color. There was a havanese with the same coloring so she may have some of that too. Her coat is maltese fine but curlier and her tail curls like a cinnamon roll, tight and sits straight up on her back.
She is still learning to be a house pet. She is not house broken nor crate trained. If left too long without trips outside, she will soil in the home or her crate. She doesn't necessarily use the provided puppy pads either. Her new family must be able to continue to help her with these things. She is not leash trained either so that will need to be worked on. And this also means, a securely fenced yard is required, no exceptions. No younger children in the home either.
We have her on a good grain free, chicken free food (as all maltese should be on due to them being prone to allergies with both) and she's doing great. She's been groomed twice now, once the day we got her and recently before her spay. She was a matted, stinky, long nails and flea infested girl when we got her. We never want her in that condition again. Please provide your groomers name and phone number on our adoption application if you would like to apply for her.

Prior to adoption, our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and parasite treated/prevented.

May is a very loving girl and just wants to jump up and give kisses. We're working diligently on not jumping. She's very smart and seems to have potty training down and has not had an accident inside while I've had her. That being said, I do have a doggie door so she can let herself out, but I'm confident she will learn quickly to ask to go out, especially if she as an older dog to show her the ropes. She likes her crate, and will put herself in the crate to nap. I have it in my bedroom and she has not cried at night at all. She sleeps 8 hours without incident. Leash training is a work in progress, but with continued training she will catch on fast.

Foster Profile:
Amber is very sweet and cuddly. She’s equally happy playing in the yard or snoozing near her humans. She’s loyal, smart, and a very fast learner. She’s cautious with new experiences and new people but warms up quickly - especially if treats are involved! She is good on a leash but will continue to need training. She’s friendly with dogs. She is crate-trained and is working hard on potty training.

19. Chester

Adult (5 years) · Male · Norfolk Terrier (medium coat) · 29 mi from Wauna

Chester loves joining you for errands or anything else you may want to include him in. He rides well in the car, loves to cuddle on the couch with a cozy blanket, and LOVES to sniff.

Chester will thrive in a home that is looking for their next best friend, shadow, and overall every day companion.

Read more about Chester

Animal Information: Chester is a 5-year-old, 24lb "norfolk terrier" mix (according to his records). He was brought into the Stanislaus Shelter as a stray in late September of this year. Unfortunately, no one came to claim him, which put him at risk for space in an overcrowded shelter. Lucky for Chester, the shelter staff advocated for him and he earned a freedom ride to the PNW! Chester is friendly with people and was tested well with other dogs. We look forward to getting to know him!

Foster Profile: Chester is the definition of a happy-go-lucky boy! Since day one with his foster, he’s loved to be included, play, and been the best house guest. Chester is potty trained, leash trained (and responds well to correction), meets strangers happily, and has decided the candy corn rope toy in his foster’s home may be his favorite thing in the world.

Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations Rabies and DPPV per AVMA standards, any indicated preventative care, heartworm test, microchip with lifetime registration, and recent health check with a veterinarian. Adoption fee may be tax deductible as Dog Gone Seattle is a 501c3 organization (ID 81-5101166).

20. Argie

Puppy (3 months 3 days) · Female · Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 29 mi from Wauna

Animal Information: Argie, along with her siblings Delia, Babs, Juice, and Otto, are tiny terrier mixes who found themselves at the Stanislaus shelter as part of an accidental litter. A shelter is no place for three tiny puppies, so we took one look at them and knew we had to get them out of there. We can't wait to meet these three little fuzz balls and see their personalities come out. We have a feeling they are going to be pretty popular!

Read more about Argie

Foster Profile:
Argie is a small terrier mix who's confident and playful. She enjoys a game of tug, is happy to meet new people, and loves running around the yard. She lives in a foster home with big adult dogs, and even at her tiny size, she holds her own playing alongside them. Argie is a bit of a sassy girl looking for someone to teach her fetch and help her with manners like staying in her crate until released and walking politely on a leash. She's a bright, energetic puppy who will be a great addition to an active home.

Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter (on contract, if applicable), core vaccinations Rabies and DPPV per AVMA standards, any indicated preventative care, microchip with lifetime registration, and recent health check with a veterinarian. We pull dogs from kill shelters and place them with fosters or trial adopters. All adoptions have 2 week trial. Adoption donation is made after trial period and certificate of ownership is issued. We also bring animals from owner surrenders into our organization so that they never enter the shelter system. We check references for all applicants and complete home checks. A great deal of our dogs are transported from CA to Seattle once we have found a foster or trial for them.

Applications are accepted online, then a home visit is scheduled unless the potential adopter does not qualify. After the home visit evaluation form is filled in online, we generally approve and the Adoption Team begins trying to match the humans with a "best fit" mal. We send dog bios to the adopter, who agrees to meet or passes on a particular dog. The adoption fee is $300 ($200 for seniors) which we collect at the time of adoption and hold for two weeks (sometimes longer) until the adoption is finalized.

Adopting a dog in Wauna

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
