Pirouette: Tiny Dancer, Professional Snuggler!

Age: 6–8 months old
Weight: 6.7 lbs
Breed: Yorkie mix

Read more about Pirouette

Pirouette may weigh a mere 6.7 pounds, but she brings a whole production’s worth of joy wherever she goes! This tiny Yorkie mix came to DPS with her sister, Ballerina, after a Good Samaritan found them running loose in a parking lot. Now safe in foster care, Pirouette is showing everyone what a loving, playful, and trusting little girl she is.

Her signature move? Raising her front paws when her person calls, politely requesting a lift into their arms. With an invitation that adorable, it’s awfully hard to resist.

A Little Play, a Little Lounge

Pirouette is a happy little social butterfly who loves playing with her canine friends. She can spend much of the day romping with her favorite playmate, then happily switch gears for hugs, rubs, massages, and kisses. She’s gentle, affectionate, and enthusiastic about both friendship and fun.

Her foster calls her “Baby,” a nickname she recognizes and responds to. Call her over, and she’s quick to come see what you’re doing—especially if there might be affection involved. She likes to follow her person from room to room, making herself a tiny, devoted member of the household welcoming committee. Yes, that includes accompanying you to the bathroom.

A Day in Pirouette’s World

Pirouette starts her morning around 6 a.m. with a trip to the backyard. When her foster stays outside with her, she typically takes care of business within about five minutes—a lovely start to her developing potty routine.

Her days are filled with playtime, companionship, and neighborhood outings. She usually walks around 9 a.m. and again in the evening, sometimes adding a late-afternoon outing. Between adventures, she likes staying close to her foster or spending time with the other dogs.

At night, Pirouette sleeps in her foster’s bed alongside two canine companions. Even when the others have drifted off, she likes to wait for her person before settling in. First she snuggles against them, then she may relocate beside their head and rest her little head nearby. Her finishing touch is an adorable snore: a surprisingly entertaining soundtrack from such a tiny girl.

Friends of All Sizes

Pirouette has been enjoying a wonderfully social foster home. Her closest playmate is Blini, a 12-pound young dog, and she also plays with a 20-pound resident dog and a visiting dog weighing about 35 pounds.
She has a particularly sweet relationship with Buddy, a 16-year-old dog. She greets him with a wagging tail and sometimes shares his bed, showing that she appreciates both lively playmates and quieter company.

Her foster reports that she does well with adults and children. Because she is so small, children should be gentle and interactions supervised. Her experience with cats hasn’t been reported, but they'd likely be bigger than her!

Lovely Little Leash Manners

Pirouette has earned high praise for her walking skills: her foster calls her the best-behaved walker among the five dogs in their care!

She follows along nicely, pulls very little, and enjoys being part of the group. In foster care, she has appeared comfortable around everyday sounds, movement, people, and dogs. She’s generally quiet, although she may contribute a bark when her canine friend Blini gets started.

Her foster also reports an enthusiastic response when called. Continuing to reward that attention will help her build on a promising foundation.

Growing, Learning, and Finding Her Appetite

Pirouette is still working on housetraining. She hasn’t shown much interest in inappropriate chewing in her foster home. As a young dog, she’ll still benefit from suitable toys

Ballerina: A little dancer looking for her forever partner
6–8 months old | 10 lbs | Yorkie mix | Non-shedding

Read more about Ballerina

Ballerina’s next big performance? Dancing her way into your heart. This sweet Yorkie mix came to DPS with her friend Pirouette after the two were found running through a parking lot. A kind Good Samaritan spent two hours patiently earning their trust so she could bring them to safety, then contacted DPS to help find them loving homes. Now Ballerina is discovering just how wonderful life can be when there’s a soft couch, a dependable routine, and someone to snuggle.

Her favorite position? Right beside you.
Learning the Ropes
Bella is a gentle soul with a very affectionate heart. She was cautious when she first arrived, following her foster closely while she figured things out. By day two, she was already coming out of her shell and following the resident dogs around, too. Her devotion to her person, however, appears to be a permanent feature!

If you’re on the couch, Bella settles beside you. Working at your desk? She might curl up at your feet or squeeze in behind you on your chair. At bedtime, her preferred spot is next to her foster’s head. Personal space is apparently negotiable when you’re this small and this cuddly.

She tends to prefer her familiar people and canine companions over being the center of a big social scene, but she has been friendly with the neighborhood adults and children she’s met. She doesn’t need to greet the entire world to enjoy being part of it.

A lovely little member of the ensemble

Bella currently lives with a young Mini Schnauzer mix and a senior Dachshund mix. She gets along well with both and happily joins in when her Schnauzer buddy invites her to play, though she usually lets other dogs make the first move. Her previous foster also reported that she did well with both a dog and a cat.

Her energy level is a lovely middle ground: she’ll play when invited, enjoy a walk with her pack, and then happily settle in for a nap. Chew toys and treats are favorites, and her enthusiasm for food makes training especially rewarding. She’s already practicing sitting politely before meals and is proving to be a smart, eager student.

Walks, snacks, snuggles, repeat

Bella’s day starts around 8 a.m. with a potty break and breakfast at about 8:30. She enjoys several walks throughout the day, including a longer late-afternoon outing to a nearby park. Between adventures, she plays, naps, and keeps track of her favorite humans. Dinner is served around 6 p.m., followed by a final potty walk before bed.

She’s still learning the finer points of leash walking, including choosing a side and sticking with it, but she doesn’t pull and likes to stay close to her canine companions. She checks in frequently with her foster for reassurance and has shown no interest in chasing animals or barking at passing people and dogs. Loud traffic, clanging gates, and gardening equipment can make her nervous, so calm encouragement helps her feel secure.

Car rides are another favorite. Ballerina loves watching the scenery and gets quite excited about her own personal sightseeing tour.

Practicing her puppy basics

Bella is comfortable in her crate when her foster goes out for errands. She settles with toys and a chew, keeps her crate clean, and has shown no signs of separation anxiety in her foster home.

Bella has also been a wonderfully quiet houseguest. Her foster hasn’t heard her bark—even when the resident dogs join in—and reports no destructive chewing or digging.

Her next chapter

Bella would love a home where affection is plentiful and someone appreciates a little shadow with four paws. She could do well with compatible canine

Sippy Cup: Filled to the Brim with Love

Age: 2–3 years old
Weight: 14 lbs
Breed: Maltipoo
Coat: Nonshedding

Read more about Sippy Cup

Sippy Cup came to DPS from the shelter with her friends Pacifier and Blankie, and she has been pouring her whole heart into her foster family ever since. With soulful eyes and an impressive commitment to cuddling, this little lady believes affection should be served generously—with unlimited refills.

A Professional Snuggler

Sippy’s foster describes her as the most affectionate foster dog she’s had. Sippy seeks out people, loves interacting with them, and would happily spend a good portion of her day being held or tucked against someone she loves. When cuddling isn’t on the agenda, a cozy bed near your feet is an acceptable substitute.

She also believes praise is a communal resource. Call the resident dog, Remy? Sippy arrives. Tell Remy he’s a good dog? Sippy appears immediately to remind everyone that she, too, is an exceptionally good girl. Why risk missing an available compliment?

One evening, Sippy headed to the couch for the usual after-dinner snuggles, only to discover her foster was still sitting at the kitchen table. Her solution? Climb onto the occupied chair and curl into a little doughnut right behind her person. A slightly crowded seat is a small price to pay for togetherness.

A Little Play, a Lot of Lounging

Sippy has playful bursts of energy, but she’s also an accomplished nap enthusiast. Her mornings begin around 6:30–7:30 with a potty outing and a request for attention, followed by breakfast around 8:30–9. Then she settles into her bed under her foster’s desk, keeping her favorite human conveniently within reach.

A midday potty break, an afternoon snack and snuggle session, dinner around 5–6, and a short evening walk round out her day. She enjoys brief neighborhood outings, while new places bring out her enthusiastic sniffing side. Every interesting scent deserves an investigation—and possibly a tiny contribution of her own.

A practical tip from her foster: pack extra poop bags. Sippy likes to make the most of her bathroom walks, and one bag may be wildly optimistic.

Friends, Admirers, and Fellow Dogs

Sippy lives with another small dog and can share her home with a canine companion, although she certainly likes collecting the lion’s share of the attention. She has a confident streak and will let other dogs know when something isn’t to her liking. She could be happy as a solo dog or with a compatible canine friend.

During an introduction to a cat, Sippy offered a few curious air sniffs and then showed little interest. She generally loves people and enjoys children who approach her gently and affectionately. Calm introductions help her feel comfortable; she has shown some uncertainty toward approaching strangers in a dark, unfamiliar setting.

Learning the Ropes

Sippy is making progress with both housetraining and crate training. Regular outings and learning her signals—such as whining or heading toward the back door—have helped reduce accidents. She often needs a bathroom trip soon after meals, so a predictable routine will help her keep building good habits.

At bedtime, she tends to drift off on the couch or a dog bed before moving into her crate. She may protest initially, but generally settles within about 10–25 minutes once her bathroom needs are met. She occasionally alerts to unfamiliar sounds, especially at night, but her foster has not observed destructive chewing or digging.

Being apart from her people is still difficult for Sippy. She follows her foster from room to room, whines when she realizes she’s being left behind, and may wait where she last saw her person. A lick mat can help distract h

Pacifier: Professional Cuddler, Couch Supervisor & Side-Eye Specialist

Read more about Pacifier

Age: 2–3 years old
Weight: 20 lbs
Breed: Maltipoo
Coat: Nonshedding
Pacifier came to DPS from the shelter with his friends, and he’s ready to trade shelter life for a permanent spot beside his favorite person. This sweet Maltipoo has simple priorities: a comfortable couch, someone to cuddle, and a perch with a good view of the household. His contribution? Devoted companionship and some truly award-worthy skeptical side-eye.

A Little Shadow with a Big Heart

Pacifier likes his cuddles with a generous helping of physical contact. Beside you is good; touching you is better; slightly on top of you might be perfect. He’s curious about whatever his people are doing and will follow along or keep an attentive eye on their activities from his chosen lookout.

When he first arrived in foster care, Pacifier was a bit anxious and confused. Once he got to know the household, however, he settled in quickly and revealed his affectionate, easygoing personality. A little patience while he learns a new routine will help this loving boy feel at home.

King of the Couch

If your idea of a lovely afternoon involves relaxing together, Pacifier would like to submit his application to be your companion. He’s a lounger at heart, especially fond of finding the highest comfortable spot on the couch so he can supervise everything below.

His day starts around 7 a.m. with a trip outside, followed by breakfast. Then it’s time for the important business of lounging, observing, and collecting affection. Dinner is around 6 p.m., and he sleeps overnight in a crate in the family room.

Friends, Felines & Family

Pacifier has been very good with the cats in his foster home, mostly ignoring them with an occasional curious sniff. He loves the family’s teenagers and peacefully shares space with their large dog, although he hasn’t shown much interest in playing with her. His favorite social activity appears to be spending time with his humans.

Learning the Ropes

Pacifier walks fairly well on leash, though he sometimes pulls toward something he wants to investigate. His foster family hasn’t encountered other dogs on their walks, so his reactions to passing dogs are still unknown.

He’s making progress with housetraining but will need continued consistency and supervision.

His first night in foster care included plenty of barking when left alone, but he has made excellent progress. He now settles well in his crate overnight and when his family goes out, with just an occasional whine. Stressful transitions may temporarily make being alone harder for him, so a predictable routine will be helpful as he adjusts.

Pacifier hasn’t shown interest in chewing or digging. He occasionally barks when startled or joins in when the resident dog sounds the alarm, but he has become much more settled as he’s grown comfortable.

His Perfect Match

Pacifier would thrive with someone who enjoys a relaxed pace and plenty of affectionate togetherness. A quieter household, a cozy place to lounge, and people who appreciate a devoted little companion would suit him beautifully. He enjoys attention and companionship without needing a packed activity calendar.

If you’re looking for a loving, loyal couch companion who will keep you company—and occasionally question your decisions with one perfectly delivered sideways glance—Pacifier may be your boy.

Peter Piper: Pick a Puppy, Pick a Playmate, Pick Peter!

Age: 12–14 weeks old
Weight: 9.2 lbs
Breed: Cockapoo

Read more about Peter Piper

Peter Piper may not have picked a peck of pickled peppers, but he has picked up quite a fan club! This adorable Cockapoo puppy came to DPS from a shelter with his sister, Miss Mary Mack, and quickly earned the nickname “Perfect Peter” in his foster home. Affectionate, playful, and eager to learn, Peter is the kind of puppy who makes you feel like the most exciting person in the world—especially when you arrive to say good morning.

A Little Play, a Little Lounge

Peter is a happy, energetic boy who loves a good romp, a collection of toys, and an opportunity to show off his puppy zoomies. He’s even learned fetch by watching the resident dog. Why invent a new game when your older buddy already knows such a good one?

Once he’s had his fun, Peter is delighted to settle into your lap or simply hang out nearby. He’s very focused on his people and enjoys being part of whatever they’re doing. His foster family describes him as a delight, and between his enthusiastic greetings and sweet companionship, it’s easy to see how he earned his affectionate nickname.

A Day in Peter’s World

Peter can be an early riser, and he takes morning greetings seriously. When he sees his people, he pops up onto his back legs, practically standing like a tiny human as he hopes to be picked up and taken outside. Subtle? No. Adorable? Absolutely.

He’s getting close to making it through the night without a potty break, especially when his family is ready to start the day early. A prompt trip outside gives him a chance to practice his growing potty skills before the important business of playing and cuddling begins.

His days include outdoor playtime, toys, zoomies, and plenty of affection, followed by well-earned rest. He settles for breaks in his exercise pen or makes himself comfortable in the resident dog’s bed. Peter appreciates having options when it comes to a good nap.

Friends, Furry and Otherwise

Peter has been enjoying life with a medium-sized Labradoodle and a resident cat, and his foster reports that he loves them both. He’s interested in companionship and play, and his foster thinks he could make a wonderful buddy for another dog.

He’s also learning that friendship comes with a few household boundaries. When redirected away from the resident dog’s belongings, Peter has been willing to find another activity. He’s a bright little student who benefits from clear, gentle guidance and praise for good choices.

Puppy Skills in Progress

Peter is making encouraging progress with housetraining. His fosters use the cue “go potty” and reward him when he gets it right, and he’s catching on quickly. He’ll need continued consistency, frequent potty opportunities, and a family that celebrates his successes while remembering he’s still a baby.

He enjoys companionship and can be sad when his people leave, but he also practices settling in his pen for periods each day. Continuing with short, positive sessions of independent downtime will help him become more comfortable on his own.

Peter is teething and loves his toys, so a good selection of puppy-safe chews will be essential. He can bark, but his foster hasn’t found him particularly vocal.

His foster has noticed very little shedding so far. His Cockapoo coat will need regular brushing and grooming as he grows.

His Perfect Match

Peter would love a family excited to play with him, teach him, and welcome him into their everyday activities. A compatible resident dog could be a lovely bonus, and a secure yard would give him space for his beloved romps and fetch sessions.

He’s bright, responsive, and already le

Miss Mary Mack: A Little Song, a Little Dance, a Whole Lot of Love!

Age: 12–14 weeks old
Weight: 10 lbs
Breed: Cockapoo

Read more about Miss Mary Mack

Miss Mary Mack has a morning routine guaranteed to improve yours: pick up a favorite toy, do a happy little dance, and invite everyone to celebrate another wonderful day! This adorable Cockapoo puppy came to DPS from a shelter with her brother, Peter Piper, and has been spreading joy ever since. Affectionately called Missy, she’s a sweet, adaptable girl who approaches life with a trusting heart—and considers your lap an excellent place to recharge.

A Little Play, a Little Lounge

Missy has mastered the puppy equation: play, snuggle, nap, repeat. She loves her rope toy and ball, enjoys a good game of fetch, and eagerly brings her enthusiasm to whatever her people are doing. Once she’s finished playing, she’s quick to climb into a lap and settle in for a snooze.

She forms close bonds with her people and happily follows them around the house. During the workday, she has been a lovely little office companion, quietly napping nearby while her foster mom works. Her greatest talent might be making ordinary moments feel special. Answering emails is considerably sweeter with a sleepy puppy keeping you company.

A Day in Missy’s World

Miss Mary Mack starts her day around 6:30 a.m., positively delighted to be awake. With a toy in her mouth and a wiggle in her step, she’s ready for affection and a little playtime before joining the resident dog’s morning outing. Missy rides in a carrier bag, quietly taking in the neighborhood sights and sounds.

Breakfast is served around 7 a.m., followed by toys, lap time, and a nap. Lunch arrives around noon, with another outing in her bag and more opportunities to practice her favorite activities: fetching, cuddling, and falling asleep adorably. Dinner is around 5 p.m., followed by another round of puppy fun before bedtime.

Although she initially slept in a pen with a little television noise to help her settle, Missy has made wonderful progress. She now takes all her naps in her crate and sleeps there without a peep!

Friends, Furry and Otherwise

Missy has enjoyed the company of her foster family’s seven-year-old resident dog. She’s eager to play and would very much like to know whether sharing her toys might persuade her older friend to join the fun.

She initially ignored the resident cat, then became interested in inviting the cat to play, too. Her adopters should continue supervised introductions and help her learn that feline friends get to choose whether they accept a puppy’s invitation.

Out in her carrier bag, Missy has been a curious, composed little passenger. City sounds, passing buses, and unfamiliar noises haven’t fazed her much; she takes things in and adapts quickly. Even discovering her own reflection has been another fascinating chapter in her puppy education. She hasn’t started walking on leash yet, so that adventure is still ahead.

Puppy Skills in Progress

Missy is making excellent strides with potty training. After starting with potty pads, she is now going outside and learning the cue “go potty.” She’ll need her adopters to continue that progress with frequent potty breaks, a consistent routine, and plenty of praise.

Her crate has become a comfortable place for naps and overnight sleep. Being left home alone has been a separate learning experience: she initially howled for a while when her foster mom left her in her pen. With short practice sessions, she has been building confidence. Her family should continue helping her learn that time on her own can be safe and comfortable, gradually increasing absences as she’s ready.

Her foster hasn’t observed troublesome chewi

Mikki: Puppy Eyes, Cuddles, and a Little Extra to Love

Read more about Mikki

Mikki is a 3 year old, 15 lb Havapoo with a non-shedding coat, soulful puppy eyes and a heart full of affection. His previous owner’s love language was food, so he’s carrying a couple of extra pounds— but underneath that generous serving of love is a little gentleman ready to become someone’s treasured companion.

Mikki came to DPS when his older owner developed dementia and could no longer care for him. He was a much-loved, well-cared-for pet, and we promised to find him a wonderful home where that love could continue.

An Expert in Togetherness

Mikki’s favorite activity is spending time with his people. He loves cuddling, happily follows his foster around the house, and has perfected a look that makes you think, “Well, surely I have time for a few more pets.” Spoiler alert: you do. According to Mikki, you definitely do.

Sweet with everyone he’s met, Mikki has been a lovely houseguest in both of his foster homes. He’s happy to relax in his pen when someone is nearby, and at bedtime he settles comfortably in his crate for the night. He enjoys companionship and would love a family that includes him in everyday life, with plenty of affection and cozy time together.

A Friendly Housemate

Mikki has shared his foster homes successfully with dogs of varying sizes. He gets along well with his canine housemates and walks nicely alongside his foster’s dog. He could enjoy a compatible dog companion in his forever home, though his greatest passion remains collecting love from his humans.

He doesn’t need an ambitious exercise schedule. Gentle daily outings, opportunities to sniff, and a sensible meal plan will help him work toward a healthier weight. His ideal fitness program comes with a generous cuddle break afterward.

A Coat Worth Caring For

Mikki has a non-shedding coat that will need regular grooming to keep him comfortable and looking his handsome best. He has also experienced itchy skin and suspected allergies. His skin has improved greatly on his current diet of Petaluma plant-based kibble with human-grade salmon. His adopters should be prepared to maintain a diet that agrees with him and work with their veterinarian on any ongoing skin needs.

While Mikki is comfortable with the dogs he knows at home, passing unfamiliar dogs on leash can bring out some big feelings, including growling and leash reactivity. He’ll benefit from patient, positive training and space from passing dogs as he practices calmer outings.

Mikki met a cat at the DPS Safehouse and was unfazed by her. He may be an option for a home with felines.

Mikki has already known what it means to be loved, and he’s ready to give that love right back. If you’re looking for a sweet companion who will follow you down the hallway, settle in for a cuddle, and gaze at you like you’re his whole world, Mikki would love to meet you.

Stellaluna: A Little Moonbeam Looking for Her Person

Read more about Stellaluna

Stellaluna is a 2–3 year old, 9 lb Chinese Crested mix rescued from the shelter. This little lady has two favorite destinations: her familiar neighborhood sniffing spots and the couch beside someone she loves. With her very low-shedding coat, affectionate heart, and impressive commitment to lounging, she’s ready to bring a little moonlight into the right home.

A Friendship Worth Waiting For

Stellaluna likes to take a little time getting to know her people. When she first arrived in foster care, she was a bit reserved, but with patience and a predictable routine, she began showing her sweeter, snugglier side.

Once you’re in her circle, you’ll have a devoted little companion who enjoys following you around the house, sitting beside you, and accepting invitations to cuddle. Watching her grow comfortable enough to seek out affection has been one of the most rewarding parts of fostering her.

Professional Lounger, Dedicated Sniff Inspector

Indoors, Stellaluna is a calm companion who doesn’t need a constant entertainment committee. She’s happy to snooze, supervise from the couch, and make room in her busy resting schedule for attention.

Mention a walk, however, and she’s ready to clock in. She loves exploring and has very specific sniffing stops along her usual routes. Yes, she checked that spot yesterday. No, that does not mean today’s inspection can be skipped.

Her Daily Orbit

Stellaluna currently starts her day around 6:30–6:45 a.m. with a walk, followed by breakfast and a morning nap. Afternoon and early evening walks break up her lounging, with dinner around 6 p.m. and a final potty outing around 8 p.m.

She sleeps on the living room couch. A crate proved distressing for her, so her fosters use gates or an x-pen to create a comfortable living room area with couch access when they’re away. She is still working on housetraining and will need regular bathroom breaks and a consistent routine.

Helping Her Confidence Grow

Stellaluna has made progress with settling when left alone. Initially, she cried or barked and waited near the door; she now more often settles on the couch. Her adopters should be prepared to continue building her comfort with gradual, positive practice.

Outside, other dogs can feel overwhelming, and she may show some reactivity. Quieter walking routes, plenty of distance, and patient reward-based training will help her work on this. Off-leash she has done well with other dogs, and even met a cat and was neutral about her.

Her Ideal Landing Spot

Stellaluna would thrive in a calm, predictable household with patient adopters who appreciate a tenderhearted little dog. For someone who enjoys daily walks, cozy evenings, and the quiet joy of earning a shy dog’s trust, Stellaluna has so much to offer. Give her time to find her footing, and this little moonbeam may soon have a favorite place in the universe: right beside you.

Po takes a little time to get comfortable in a new place. When he first arrived, he was quiet and unsure, even passing on meals while happily accepting treats. Over the next several days, his appetite returned and his affectionate side began to emerge.

He enjoys gentle rubs and is starting to seek out attention on his own. He isn’t ready to jump straight into full cuddle sessions, but walking over to place his head in your lap? That’s Po’s way of saying, “I think we’re going to be friends.” Give him time to settle in, and you’ll get to watch that trust grow.

Excellent Company, Minimal Commentary

If you’re looking for a companion who appreciates simply sharing your space, Po has that covered. He likes resting near his foster in the office or keeping him company while he gardens. He’s young enough to enjoy playtime without being constantly on the go, and his foster describes him as gentle, well behaved, and very easy to care for.

Po is also remarkably quiet. So far, his foster has heard him bark just once, in response to a neighbor’s dog through the fence.
Walks, Meals, and a Cozy Crate

Po’s day starts around 6:30 a.m. with a walk followed by breakfast. He enjoys an evening walk and dinner, then a short outing around 10 p.m. before bedtime. He walks nicely on leash and currently prefers to do his potty business on walks rather than in the backyard, so regular outings are an important part of his routine.
His foster reports that he is fully housetrained and crate trained. Point him toward his crate, and he walks right in! He sleeps there overnight and settles calmly during his foster’s outings of about two hours, with no barking or fussing reported.

Friends and Family

Po previously lived with a cat. In his current foster home, he was excited to meet and play with his foster’s 10 year old grandson. In his prior home, he went to the dog park and played nicely with other dogs.
A Young Dog Learning the House Rules

Po has mostly been an easy houseguest, though one pair of slippers and a patch of vegetable garden did receive some unsolicited attention. Appropriate chew toys, supervision, and guidance will help this young boy learn what’s available for chewing—and which gardening projects belong to the humans.

His Next Chapter

Po is looking for a family who will give him a gentle welcome and let him build confidence at his own pace. Walks, a predictable routine, a comfortable place nearby, and patient affection are a wonderful starting point.

His foster says he would consider adopting Po himself if his upcoming schedule allowed it. That’s quite an endorsement for a dog whose greatest talent may be quietly making himself part of your heart.

Canoe: Small Boat, Big Personality
All aboard for puppy love! Canoe is one of the four Boat puppies, rescued from the shelter with his mama, Marina, when he was eight weeks old. Now about 12 weeks old, this scruffy little sailor is ready to launch into a forever home of his own!
Mama Marina weighs about 25 pounds and looks like a Maltese mix, and our best guess is that Canoe is a Maltipoo with a soft, terrier-like coat, a fabulous personality, and an impressive ability to turn an ordinary afternoon into a puppy party. While purebred Maltipoos are generally allergy-friendly, Canoe may not be suited for those with serious allergies.
Your Personal Lap Boat
Canoe takes his duties as a lap dog very seriously. At roughly 3–4 pounds when his foster checked in, he’s a tiny package (and most definitely the runt of the litter!) with an enormous affection budget. His preferred destination for any nap? Your lap. His preferred activity once he arrives? Snuggling closer.
Canoe absolutely enjoys racing around and playing, but he also makes time to sit quietly and soak up pets. A belly rub can bring this busy little boy to a complete stop, except for one back leg, which keeps kicking away in appreciation. Whether he grows into a champion couch companion remains to be seen, but he’s already putting in some excellent practice.
Head of the Recreation Department
Canoe runs a very busy recreation program. There are balls to chase, rope toys to wrestle, plushies to investigate, and squeakers that apparently require repeated testing. He enjoys exploring a variety of toy textures, sounds, and smells, and rotating the selection keeps his little puppy brain busy.
He has plenty to say during play, too! Expect enthusiastic puppy commentary as he wrestles his toys or invites the resident dog to join the fun. Like any typical teething puppy, he sometimes mistakes fingers, shoes, or clothing for potential chew toys, so his family should be ready with appropriate toys and patient redirection.
His foster home includes Scout, a 35-pound mini Golden Retriever who has politely declined a position on the puppy entertainment committee. Canoe eagerly invites Scout to play, but he does a lovely job of reading Scout’s signals and accepting “no, thank you.”
A Day Aboard
Canoe’s daily itinerary is straightforward: sleep, play, eat, repeat.
He wakes around 6 a.m., heads outside for a potty break, and fuels up with breakfast. The morning brings backyard adventures and a nap around 10, followed by more play before lunch at noon. An afternoon snooze usually arrives around 3, with a snack at 4 and another rotation of play and rest before dinner at 8 p.m. After one final round of evening entertainment, he settles in for the night.
Meals, naps, and overnight sleeping happen in his indoor puppy pen in the living room. His crate is available inside the pen, and he often chooses it as a cozy sleeping spot. Canoe grew up with his littermates for company, so he’ll need some help adjusting to a new home and learning to spend time on his own.
Little Explorer, Learning the Ropes
Canoe enjoys brief outings in his doggy stroller, where he likes to prop up his paws and sniff the world going by. He’s comfortable wearing a harness and has watched passing people, dogs, and cars without barking. About 10 minutes of sightseeing generally meets his current cruising requirements!
Ready to Find His Home Port
Canoe’s wish list starts with a welcoming lap and people who delight in an affectionate little companion. He’ll thrive with a family ready for the happy work of puppyhood: potty breaks, socialization, gentle training, toy rotation, and plenty of time together.
If you’ve fallen for Canoe’s tiny, snuggly

Adoption fee: $650
Bullseye: Right on Target
4 -5 months old | About 20 lbs | Terrier mix
Bullseye has excellent aim—especially when the target is a spot beside his favorite person. A ball, a tug toy, or a game with his canine buddies can certainly catch his attention, but people are his first choice. This sweet Terrier mix is equal parts enthusiastic playmate and happy little sidekick, with a particular talent for turning “I have work to do” into “I suppose you can nap next to me.”
At four months old and about 20 lbs, Bullseye has plenty of growing and learning ahead of him. He is already showing off some wonderful foundations: he sleeps in his crate, is making great progress with potty training, and comes running when his foster whistles. Smart, affectionate, and motivated by food? That’s a pretty promising puppy starter kit.
His Favorite Target: You
Bullseye loves attention and likes to keep his people within easy reach. He will run and play with the other dogs, but given the choice, he often prefers a human-led game. Balls, catch, and tug-of-war are all on his list of approved activities, and he has yet to meet a chew toy he considers beneath him.
When the games are over, he can curl up beside his foster and rest while she works. Morning snuggles and cuddles after crate time are particular favorites. Even during backyard time with his dog friends, he sometimes finishes playing and settles by the door, ready to rejoin the people indoors. His social calendar has priorities.
Play Hard, Snuggle, Repeat
Bullseye starts his morning with a trip outside before 8 a.m. to potty and stretch his legs. Breakfast is at 8:30, followed by a mix of play, exploration, and rest inside and outdoors.
With three other dogs in the household, there is always something happening, so his foster builds in three quiet breaks each day, usually about an hour in his crate. These give him time to recharge away from the group. He settles quietly, then emerges ready for affection and whatever comes next.
Dinner is at 6 p.m., and bedtime is around 9 p.m. in his crate. He generally sleeps quietly; on one occasion when he whined overnight, a potty trip took care of the problem and he settled again.
His energy comes in very puppy-like bursts. He bounces around, joins the fun, and rarely declines an invitation to play—but he also knows how to crash for a good nap.
A Small Guy With Some Very Big Friends
Bullseye currently lives with two dogs weighing around 120 lbs each and another weighing about 30 lbs. He plays well with all three and is learning about canine manners from his experienced housemates.
He also shares his foster home with a cat, who has been quite clear about her personal-space requirements. After a week of learning, he is beginning to understand that she prefers to be admired from a respectful distance. Continued supervision and thoughtful introductions will help him build on that progress.
Bullseye has been friendly and sweet with the older children he has met. His experience with younger children has not yet been established, and while he would certainly be friendly, his exuberance could prove a bit much for very small children.
Hitting the Training Targets
Bullseye is crate trained and stays in his crate when left home alone. His foster has not observed signs of separation anxiety in that setup.
He is also doing well with housetraining, going outside to potty without using pee pads. He is still a young puppy, so regular breaks and a consistent routine will help him keep succeeding.
Food makes an excellent teaching tool for this bright boy, and his quick response to his foster’s whistle is an encouraging start for recall training. Formal leash walks have not begun yet, so his

Orangina is an option for Foster-to-Adopt!

Read more about Orangina

Orangina: A Little Sweetness, Slowly Revealed
Age: 1–2 years | Weight: 10 lbs | Breed: Terrier mix
Orangina isn’t quite ready to pop the cork on her bubbly side—but the first little fizz is there. A morning tail wag. A quiet toy party in her pen. A shy kiss on the hand that offers her a treat. For this little shelter girl, those small moments are big milestones, and watching her discover that life can be safe and kind is a special kind of joy.
At 1–2 years old and just 10 pounds, Orangina is a reserved Terrier mix looking for a gentle home where she can build confidence at her own pace. Her personality is unfolding slowly, with glimpses of sweetness and playfulness that make every step forward worth celebrating.
A Private Showing of Her Playful Side
When Orangina first arrived in her foster home, she was so nervous that she didn’t want to leave her crate. Her foster introduced an exercise pen, which has become another comfortable home base. Having a familiar place to retreat helps her relax—and relaxed Orangina has toys to attend to.
For now, her best play sessions happen when the house is quiet and she thinks nobody is watching. She enjoys entertaining herself with her toys, then curling up for a nap with her nose tucked into her bed to keep it warm. She takes cozy very seriously.
As her trust grows, she’s beginning to greet her foster family with tail wags, especially in the morning. Treat time has also brought a few sweet, brief kisses on their hands. She’s still getting comfortable with people, but those little gestures offer a lovely peek at the dog underneath the shyness.
Her Daily Recipe for Comfort
Orangina does well with a predictable routine. She wakes around 6:30 a.m. and heads to the backyard for a potty break, then settles in her crate while her foster family tackles morning chores. Breakfast arrives around 7:45 a.m.: moistened kibble with a fresh-food topper.
After breakfast and a nap, she spends about 15–20 minutes in the backyard, taking care of business and practicing walking on leash. Then it’s back to her pen for toys and another snooze, with additional yard breaks between naps.
Dinner is at 5 p.m., followed by a final potty trip around 8:30 p.m. Orangina sleeps quietly in her crate through the night. She also rests comfortably in her crate when her foster leaves home, with no separation anxiety observed.
Small Dog, Excellent Housekeeping
Orangina has had no potty accidents in her foster home and is fully housetrained there. She’s comfortable in her crate, and her foster hasn’t heard her bark so far. She hasn’t shown digging behavior, either.
She enjoys chewing her toys, though she has chewed a leash and collar in the past, so adopters should supervise her equipment and keep appropriate chew toys available. Her coat sheds regularly.
Her current lifestyle is mellow: some quiet play, some backyard exploring, and plenty of comfortable resting. As she becomes more secure, her adopters will get to discover more of her interests alongside her.
Learning That the World Is Friendly
Leash walking is still a work in progress. Orangina practices in the backyard, where she tends to follow closely behind her foster. She sometimes resists the leash and needs gentle guidance and encouragement. She hasn’t ventured out for neighborhood walks yet, so her new family should be ready to build on these small practice sessions gradually.
She has shared space with two small resident dogs and has also been comfortable around gentle larger dogs, but she isn’t looking for a wrestling partner or an enthusiastic welcoming committee. She generally keeps to herself and backs away when approached. If another dog gets too close, she may snap to ask for space. Calm dogs who can leave her room to settle could be suitable companions, with slow, supervised introducti

Bubba’s Golden Years

At 16 years old, Bubba never expected to find himself searching for a family again. He was originally adopted from DPS, but when his beloved owner passed away, he returned to our care. Now this sweet, gentle Shih Tzu is hoping for a peaceful home where he can feel safe, cherished, and surrounded by love for the rest of his golden years.

A Gentle Old Soul

Read more about Bubba

Bubba was understandably sad when he first arrived in his foster home. For the first couple of days, he kept his distance and walked away when anyone tried to reach for him. His whole world had changed, and he needed time to understand that he was safe.

With patience—and a little reassurance from the other dogs in his foster home—Bubba gradually began to open his heart again. He now recognizes his name, comes when called, and happily accepts head rubs and full-body massages. He may not be a lap dog or traditional cuddler, but he likes to remain close to his person and generously hands out kisses.

The Bubba Schedule

Bubba wakes up around 6 a.m. and heads outside to take care of business. He is fully housetrained and has not had any accidents in his foster home. He generally eats breakfast around 9 a.m. and dinner around 6 p.m.

Bubba is an exceptionally picky eater and will hold out if a meal does not meet his very specific standards. He currently eats We Feed Raw, which has a softer texture than traditional kibble. His adopter should be prepared to continue finding foods that appeal to him and make sure this discerning little gentleman keeps eating consistently.

He enjoys two leisurely walks each day—one around 9 a.m. and another around 8:30 p.m. Bubba walks slowly but steadily, follows his person nicely, and never pulls. He does not have the stamina for long walks or extended activity, but he seems to enjoy getting outside and taking in the neighborhood at his own comfortable pace.

During the day, Bubba rests near his foster while she works. At night, he sleeps soundly in a dog bed or on the carpet beside his foster family’s bed. He has needed a middle-of-the-night potty break only once.

Professionally Relaxed

Bubba spends most of his time resting, lounging, and keeping quiet company with his person. He is not interested in chewing, digging, or creating household drama—and his foster has yet to hear him bark.

He currently lives with two young, small mixed-breed dogs. They occasionally sniff him, but everyone mostly gives one another space. Bubba does not seek out interaction or play with the other dogs, although their presence may have helped him feel more comfortable when he first arrived.

Bubba sometimes chooses to retreat to the backyard while his foster family watches television, possibly because the noise is too loud for him. A calm home where he has quiet, comfortable places to rest would suit him beautifully.

A Home for His Golden Years

Bubba needs an adopter who is prepared to spoil him rotten for however long he has left. He is looking for softness: a cozy bed, gentle walks, good meals, soothing massages, and someone who will treasure every day they share with him.

The Sweetest Kisses

One of Bubba’s most endearing qualities is his love of giving kisses—even if his breath sometimes makes them especially memorable. His foster offers him dental sticks, but true to form, picky Bubba requires a little persuasion. He watches the other dogs enthusiastically devour theirs while his foster repeatedly presents his stick for inspection. Eventually, he decides it meets his standards and joins in.

Bubba has already experienced a profound loss. What he needs now is someone willing to give him the very best chapter of his life: a person with the time, heart, and compassion to love him completely, however

These puppies aren't just cute names on a coffee cup. They're genuinely sweet little souls who love people and want to be part of the family. They're gentle, affectionate, playful, and ready to grow up surrounded by love.
They may be able to join families with children, other dogs, or even cats, provided introductions are thoughtful and the resident pets and children are a good match. After all, everybody deserves a chance to enjoy a little Starbucks!
Like any young puppies, they're still learning the ropes. Their current hobbies include teething, chewing, playing, cuddling, and occasionally forgetting that the world does not revolve entirely around them. (We admire their confidence.)
Rope toys and durable, puppy-safe chews will help keep those busy little mouths occupied. They haven't shown much interest in digging and generally aren't especially vocal, although every puppy has a voice and opinions of their own.
These puppies already have a great start on the basics thanks to their foster families! Their new families can build on that foundation as they continue p

Paisley: A Tiny Heart Learning to Be Brave
Some dogs burst into a room with confidence. Paisley prefers to tiptoe in quietly, watching from a safe distance before deciding if it's okay to trust. At just 1 year old and 7 pounds, this adorable Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix may be tiny, but her heart is full of hope—and every day she gets a little bit braver.
Once Paisley decides you're her person, she becomes your tiny shadow and quite simply adores you.

Read more about Paisley

She follows her foster from room to room, always wanting to know where you are, and is happiest relaxing nearby. During the day she's perfectly content snoozing on the couch, and at night she curls up in a dog bed beside her foster's bed. She's not demanding or high-energy—in fact, she's mostly a little couch potato who enjoys simply being close to the people she trusts. She also loves belly rubs!
Paisley loves her daily routine, especially her three walks each day. She's a lovely leash walker who doesn't pull, though new sights and sounds can still make her nervous. If another dog is barking, she may bark back, and children seen from a distance can make her uneasy as well. She's much more interested in staying close to her person than greeting strangers or making new dog friends. In the home environment, Paisley lives with multiple dogs and cats and gets along wonderfully with all of them.
Paisley is on her second foster home (her first foster is traveling) and has learned to follow a routine and when kept on schedule, she is fully housetrained. The most important part is taking her out right after she eats. She goes out to the yard right when she wakes up, right after she eats, once in the afternoon, again after she ears her dinner and then before she goes to bed. If she knows what to expect and she's on a schedule then she has no issues with accidents. When her foster is gone during the day, she is crated and does well in her crate.
Paisley's ideal family will understand that trust can't be rushed. She'll thrive with patient, experienced adopters who will celebrate the little victories. A quieter home without young children would likely help her continue building confidence at her own pace. She would be perfect for a single person who wants a best friend - she will adore you!
The best part about Paisley is that you can see exactly what she's trying to do. She wants to be loved. She'll hurry over with hopeful eyes and a wagging tail, then second-guess herself and retreat before remembering that maybe, just maybe, this person is safe after all. Watching those moments of bravery become a little bigger every day is incredibly rewarding.
If you're the kind of person who believes the sweetest relationships are built one tiny step at a time, Paisley is ready to take those steps with you.

Meet Sunny D: House Hippo Extraordinaire!
Sunny is an option for Foster-to-Adopt!
Sunny D is proof that some of the most rewarding dogs are the ones who simply need someone to believe in them. This beautiful 2 year old low-rider Pit Bull mix came to DPS from the shelter as a new mama with her tiny litter of puppies, and she immediately showed everyone what a devoted, loving mother she was. She cared for her babies wonderfully, and now that her puppies are grown, it’s finally Sunny’s turn to be spoiled, cherished, and loved like she deserves.
Over the past couple of months, Sunny has transformed in the most beautiful way. She has gone from a frightened mama who flinched at touch to a big-headed sweetheart who happily leans into your hands for affection. Watching her blossom has been incredibly special, and her future family will get to experience the joy of helping her continue to discover how wonderful being a dog can be.
A Day in the Life

Sunny is a wonderful mix of playful, relaxed, and affectionate. Her day starts around 7:00-8:00 a.m. when she wakes up quietly. She is crate-trained and sleeps through the night in her crate without a peep.
After a morning potty break, Sunny’s favorite activity begins: ball time! She absolutely LOVES playing with a ball and would happily spend all day chasing one if she had the choice. She’s still working on the “bring it back” part of fetch— often choosing to dramatically flop down wherever the ball lands— but she has endless enthusiasm for the chase.

After breakfast, Sunny settles into the kitchen while her foster starts the day. Around 10:00 a.m., she gets another round of ball play for about 30 minutes before happily crashing for a long nap.

Afternoons are a mix of more playtime, relaxing, and snuggles. Dinner is around 5:00 p.m., followed by either another ball session or simply hanging out with her favorite person before bedtime around 10:00 p.m.

Sunny enjoys having a routine, but she is also a wonderfully flexible dog who can happily adapt to her family’s lifestyle. She mostly just wants to be included.

A Gentle Soul Learning to Love

Sunny’s journey has been incredible to watch.

At first, affection was a little overwhelming. She wasn’t used to being touched and would flinch when someone reached toward her. But with patience and kindness, she slowly realized that hands could bring love, not fear.

Now? Sunny absolutely loves attention.

She has the cutest little nervous tail wag when she wants to say hello, and she loves being talked to— even when she’s feeling shy. She will press her big, chunky head into your hands for scratches and has recently discovered the joy of belly rubs.

Sunny is a dog who doesn’t rush into relationships, but once she trusts you, she bonds deeply. She follows her foster from room to room, hangs out by her feet while she works, and loves lounging nearby. She also has an independent side and enjoys exploring the yard, relaxing in the sunshine, and finding cozy places to hang out. Sunny has shown that she will bond deeply with one individual - her person - and is generally not interested in the other humans in the home. She would be an ideal match for someone who lives alone and is looking for a ride-or-die best friend. She has no problem coexisting with other humans - she just mostly wants to be near her person.

Playful, Silly, and Full of Personality

Sunny has so many charming quirks that make her impossible not to love.

Her absolute favorite thing is her ball collection. She loves chasing balls, carrying them around, and proudly showing them off. She has already chewed through several, so sturdy rubber toys are a must!

She also enjoys plush toys occasionally

Bringing a dog home to your cat

Tell the rescue about your cat: their age and how they react to dogs. A dog who has lived calmly with one cat may still want to chase a cat that runs.

Introduce them slowly. Keep them apart for the first few days and swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior.

Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, like a high shelf or a room behind a baby gate, and keep the litter box and cat food out of the dog's way.
