Age: 7 Years
Weight: 16 lbs
Good With: Dogs ✔️ | Kids ✔️ | Cats: Unknown
Medical: Spay and Vaccination Status Not Confirmed
Personality: Individual Temperament Still Being Evaluated
❤️ Personality & Breed Information
Meet Sombra, a beautiful 7-year-old Dachshund Terrier mix weighing just 16 pounds! This lovely little lady is searching for a forever family who will give her the comfort, companionship, and stability she deserves.
Read more about Sombra
At seven years old, Sombra has moved beyond the demanding puppy stages, making her a wonderful candidate for someone interested in adopting an adult dog. Her individual personality is still being evaluated, but she has the opportunity to build a loving bond with a family who will give her time to settle in.
About the Dachshund Terrier Mix
Dachshunds and Terriers are known for their intelligence, determination, loyalty, and curious personalities. Originally bred as working dogs, both breeds can have strong instincts to explore, investigate interesting scents, and engage with their surroundings.
As a Dachshund Terrier mix, Sombra may display some of these characteristics:
Loyal and Affectionate: Many develop strong attachments to their families.
Intelligent and Curious: They often enjoy exploring, scent games, and interactive activities.
Independent: Their determined personalities benefit from patient, consistent guidance.
Playful: Even mature adults may enjoy toys, games, and daily adventures.
Alert: They can be observant and attentive to their surroundings.
Because Sombra is a mixed breed, her individual temperament and energy level may vary from these general characteristics.
At 16 pounds, Sombra is a manageable size for many households. Her ideal home will provide appropriate exercise, companionship, and a comfortable environment where she can feel secure.
Training, Adjustment & What to Expect
Although Sombra is seven years old, adopters should not assume she is fully house-trained or familiar with household routines. Rescue dogs may arrive with basic training at best.
Her future family should be prepared to reinforce house training, leash manners, basic commands, and appropriate household behavior using positive reinforcement.
Dachshund Terrier mixes often benefit from daily walks, scent-based activities, and mental enrichment. Exercise should be adjusted to Sombra's individual energy level and physical condition.
Sombra is considered suitable for homes with dogs and children, with proper introductions and supervision. Her compatibility with cats is unknown.
Understanding the 3-3-3 Rule
Every rescue dog needs time to adjust:
3 Days: Decompress and begin feeling safe.
3 Weeks: Learn household routines and build confidence.
3 Months: Develop trust and become more comfortable in the family.
These are guidelines, not deadlines. Patience, consistency, and a predictable routine will help Sombra settle into her new home.
Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care
Sombra's current spay and vaccination status have not been confirmed. Her adopter should review her medical records and arrange any necessary follow-up care.
Dachshund Terrier Health Considerations
Because of her breed mix and age, Sombra's future family should be aware of several potential health considerations:
Back and Spinal Health: Dachshunds are predisposed to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD). If Sombra has inherited a longer back, limiting repetitive jumping and maintaining a healthy weight may help protect her spine.
Joint Health: Smaller dogs may develop kneecap instability or age-related joint discomfort.
Dental Care: Regular tooth brushing and veterinary dental examinations are important.
Weight Management: Maintaining a healthy body condition supports mobility and overall health.
Age-Appropriate Care: As Sombra gets older, regular wellness examinations can help

If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online application. Hi, I'm Ginness, a Labrador X who's ready for my second act! I'm reserved, independent, and an oh-so-sensitive gal who was recently let go by my ex-owner who moved to a small home with a strict "no dogs allowed" policy. Poor me had to live out my golden years in the backyard—how rude, right? But fear not! I may be a bit shy at first, but once I warm up, I'll show you my playful side.
Read more about Ginness
I'm less active these days, probably because I've been lounging in the yard for too long, but I still know all the tricks: come when called, sit on command, and walks like a pro on the leash. I am definitely not a fan of cats—let's just say they had a "difference of opinion" in my past. As for children and other dogs, well, that's a bit of a mystery. So, if you're looking for a senior dog with a huge heart and a bit of a backstory, I may be your girl. I'm ready to trade in my backyard life for a comfy couch and someone to love me for all my quirks. Please fill out an online application to come and meet me and give sweet lovable me the happily-ever-after I deserve! *Thank you to Sharon for sponsoring this wonderful dog at the Burnice Kraemer Sanctuary and giving her the chance for a better life.

❤️ Personality, Breed Information & Palomo’s Story
Read more about Palomo GR
Palomo is an 8-year-old West Highland White Terrier mix with a gentle personality and a very simple wish: he just wants to be loved.
He is an incredibly loving and calm boy who enjoys being around people. Palomo also gets along with other dogs and cats, making him a wonderful candidate for a home with other pets.
Palomo has been through a difficult chapter. He previously suffered a fractured hip. His veterinarian recommended rest, and he was given the time he needed to recover. His history doesn't define him, but it is important information for his future family to know so his comfort and mobility can continue to be monitored.
What stands out most about Palomo today isn't what happened to him—it's his temperament. He is peaceful, affectionate, and simply wants love and companionship.
As a West Highland White Terrier mix, Palomo may share traits associated with Westies, including being affectionate, intelligent, curious, loyal, and full of personality. At eight years old, however, Palomo's individual personality is already clear: he's a calm, loving companion looking for a comfortable place to call home.
Training, Adjustment & What to Expect
Palomo is a senior dog, and his new home should give him a comfortable routine, gentle exercise, affection, and plenty of opportunities to relax near his people.
Rescue dogs may arrive with basic training at best, so his family should patiently reinforce any household manners, leash skills, or routines he needs using positive reinforcement.
The 3-3-3 Rule
3 Days to decompress and begin feeling safe
3 Weeks to understand his new household routine
3 Months to fully settle in, build trust, and feel at home
A quiet sleeping area, predictable schedule, comfortable bedding, and patience will help Palomo settle into his new life.
Owner Responsibilities & Veterinary Care
Palomo has a history of a hip fracture, so his future veterinarian should be made aware of the previous injury. Although rest was the treatment recommended at the time, his family should continue monitoring his comfort and mobility as he gets older.
Any limping, stiffness, difficulty getting up, reluctance to walk or jump, signs of pain, or changes in mobility should be evaluated by a veterinarian.
As an 8-year-old dog, Palomo would also benefit from regular senior wellness examinations and any bloodwork his veterinarian recommends. Keeping him at a healthy weight can help reduce unnecessary stress on his hips and joints.
His neuter and vaccination status were not provided and should be confirmed through his medical records.
Adoption Information
If you are interested in adopting Palomo, please complete an adoption application at:

8. Harley bonded with Frankie
Senior (14 years 2 months) · Female · Dachshund (long coat) · 76 mi from Santa Barbara

Meet Harley! A Darling Senior Lady with a Little Sass and a Whole Lot of Love! ❤️
Some girls are born to be princesses, and Harley is quite certain she's one of them!
Meet beautiful Harley, a 14-year-old, 13-pound, long-haired Dachshund with a lovely black coat, a sweet silver-dusted face, and a personality that will absolutely steal your heart.
Harley is a delightful little senior lady who knows what she likes, isn't afraid to express her opinions, and believes that the finer things in life include warm sunshine, a comfortable place to nap, tasty little treats, and having her favorite people nearby.

And, of course, there's Frankie, her devoted boyfriend and constant companion!
A Love Story Worth Keeping Together
Harley and Frankie have shared their lives together for years. Sadly, their world changed when their beloved owner entered hospice care and could no longer look after them.
Through no fault of their own, these two sweet seniors found themselves needing a new home at an age when comfort, familiarity, and companionship mean so much.
Thankfully, they still have each other.
Harley and Frankie are a bonded pair, and our greatest wish is to see them spend their golden years together, surrounded by the security and affection of a loving family.
To help make that possible, DRLA is offering an ADOPT ONE, GET ONE FREE adoption special for Harley and Frankie!
When adopted together, the adoption fee for one of them will be waived. Two precious senior companions, one loving forever home, and twice the happiness!
A Little Lady with a Big Personality
Harley may be a senior, but don't let her age fool you. This girl still has plenty of personality!
She loves to amble around the house, carefully supervising the activities of her humans. Whether you're preparing dinner, folding laundry, or simply going about your day, Harley likes to know what's happening. She's an inquisitive little soul who enjoys being included, even if she's just observing from a comfortable spot nearby.
And when Harley wants something, she has her own wonderfully amusing way of telling you.
Rather than barking up a storm, this clever little lady will stroll right up and give you a soft, gentle grumble. It's her own special language, and it might mean, "I'd like to be picked up, please," "Excuse me, I need to go outside," or perhaps her favorite request, "I believe it's time for a snack!"
It's not an aggressive growl, just Harley's charming way of making her wishes known.
A little bit diva? Absolutely. Completely lovable? Without question!
Life in the Slow Lane
These days, Harley prefers life's gentler pleasures.
She absolutely adores sunbathing and would be delighted to have a safe, sunny spot where she can stretch out, enjoy the warmth, and watch the world go by.
She also enjoys leisurely little strolls, although long walks can be difficult for her. Harley doesn't need miles of exercise or an action-packed schedule. Short, comfortable outings, a little exploring, and plenty of time to relax are much more her style.
Harley is a low-energy, generally quiet companion who would be happiest in a peaceful home where she can enjoy a predictable routine, soft places to rest, and the companionship of people who appreciate the special joys of senior dogs.
She is friendly with adults, children, and other dogs, although she has one particular preference: Harley would really rather be the only lady dog in the household!
Her Frankie is, of course, nonnegotiable. And if there happen to be a few other friendly Dachshund gentlemen around, well, Harley certainly wouldn't object to having her own little harem of admirers!
Keeping Harley Happy and Healthy
Harley has recently received dental care and is current on her vaccinations. She is also spayed and already housetrained.
Like many senior Dachshunds, Harley needs a few thoughtful accommodations to keep her comfortable.
She has a cataract in her left eye, but she continues to enjoy exploring her surrou

His beloved girlfriend, Harley!
A Love Story That Deserves a Happy Ending
Frankie and Harley, a beautiful black long-haired Dachshund, have shared their lives together for years. Their bond is deeply special, and these two sweet seniors find comfort and companionship in one another.
Sadly, their lives took an unexpected turn when their previous owner entered hospice care and could no longer care for them.
Imagine how confusing such a change must be for two little dogs who had known the comfort and familiarity of their home for so long.
Thankfully, Frankie and Harley still have each other, and we are determined to keep it that way.

When Frankie and Harley are adopted together, the adoption fee for one of them will be waived.
Two devoted companions, twice the love, and one wonderful opportunity to give a bonded senior pair the happy ending they deserve.
A Gentleman Who Appreciates the Finer Things in Life
Frankie is what you might call a true connoisseur of comfort.
He's happiest lounging on the sofa with his favorite people, enjoying a little companionship without needing to be the center of attention every minute.
He also happens to be an enthusiastic sun worshipper! Find him a sunny window where he can settle down and bask in the warmth, and you've given him his very own little piece of paradise.
Frankie doesn't need a packed social calendar, long hikes, or endless excitement. His idea of a perfect day is spending time with the people he loves, enjoying a little sunshine, taking a leisurely stroll, and settling in for a peaceful evening.
He's a wonderfully mellow companion whose calm, affectionate nature makes him especially endearing.
And while Frankie is generally a quiet fellow, he does take his responsibilities as household greeter seriously. If someone knocks on the door, he'll offer a few barks to let you know there's a visitor. Once his announcement has been made, he's usually content to return to his regularly scheduled relaxation.
A Little Patience, a Lot of Love
Frankie is a gentle boy, although he can be a little cautious when meeting unfamiliar people in his home.
His first instinct may be to hang back and observe, taking a little time to decide whether this new person is someone he'd like to know.
But give him the opportunity to become comfortable, and you'll discover the affectionate, devoted companion beneath that initial shyness.
Frankie isn't interested in rushing into new friendships. He simply appreciates being allowed to make them at his own pace.
Once he knows and trusts you, he's more than happy to join you on the sofa, keep you company, and enjoy all the wonderful comforts of being a cherished family member.
Frankie gets along with people of all ages, including children, and generally enjoys the company of other dogs, particularly those he already knows.
Larger dogs, however, can make him uncomfortable, so we're looking for a home without large dogs where he and Harley can feel secure and relaxed.

11. Cowboy
Senior · Male · Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat) · 79 mi from Santa Barbara

Paw Parent facilitated Cowboy's rescue from the Lancaster shelter in 2014. He was adopted by a couple that gave him a stable loving home until they ended in divorce this year and poor Cowboy became the innocent victim. Paw Parent was contacted and we welcomed him with open arms. How could we not? He is a 14 year old treasure, incredibly sweet with not a mean bone in his body.A couple of months after his arrival he started to have glaucoma in his left eye that did not respond to medication and got worse quickly. Glaucoma is not curable and treatment would be life long with no guarantee that the eye could be stabilized, so we made the difficult decision to have the eye removed.

His greeting when I come home is so heartwarming, he is so overjoyed that he literally serenades me with a beautiful song. He gets along with all the dogs here, is gentle, mellow and an absolute delight to have around. Unfortunately he cannot come to adoptions with us because he gets car sick. He is so deserving of a second chance of a home where he can live out his golden years. Adopting a senior dog in Santa Barbara
Older dogs are usually calm, affectionate and happy with shorter walks, which makes them a good match for older adults and first-time dog owners.
Ask the rescue about the dog's health and vet history. Many rescues charge less to adopt a senior dog.
Many small dogs live to 15 or older, so a senior dog can still be part of your family for years.
