I'm crate trained, though I'm still working on house training, so a patient and understanding owner will be ideal. I have a high prey drive, so a home without smaller pets or livestock is essential. I'm reactive to other male dogs or strong-willed dogs but is accepting of submissive females of my own size. I need a quiet place with minimal distractions to thrive, as I can become easily stimulated and is a strong chewer who may try to explore beyond normal fencing. One of my favorite activities is splashing around in kiddie pools—it's my idea of heaven! However, I don't do well being left alone at home for long periods, as my investigative nature leads me to explore my surroundings. With the right environment and a loving family, I am sure to bring joy and laughter to your life. If you're ready to give unique and wonderful me the home I deserve, please put in an online application to meet me. *Thank you to Sharon for sponsoring this wonderful dog at the Burnice Kraemer Sanctuary and giving him the chance for a better life.

Although I'm still working on my house training, with patience and love, I'll have it down pat in no time. With my playful and loving personality, I will absolutely thrive in a home where I can bond with my family and be a part of their everyday lives. I'm good with other dogs and children, but cats are an unknown. I don't like being alone all day, so I'd be best suited for a home where someone is around to keep me company. Since I'm just a puppy, children in the home must be at least 6 years of age. I know I'm cute and everyone will want me, but please be sure you're ready to take on a puppy as it's similar to having a newborn (2-legged kind) in the home. It's a lifetime commitment, not a temporary one where the love and attention wears off after I'm grown. If you're ready and able to give me a lifetime of love and wonderful memories, please fill out an application to meet me.

I have some challenges that need attention from a patient and experienced owner. I would do best in a home with no cats or other dogs, and due to my food aggression, I may nip or bite when eating. I am also scared of loud trucks, so a calm and quiet environment would be ideal for me. I am house and crate trained, which is a great start! I will need continued training and behavior correction to help me become the best version of myself. I am not suitable for homes with young children but might do well with older children who know how to respect a dog's space and boundaries. I am looking for that special someone who can give me the time, love, and training I need. If you are up for the challenge and believe you can provide a stable, loving home, please fill out an online application to come and meet me. I am ready to give all my love and affection to the right family.

I have already undergone formal training and learn quickly, but I've got a bit of a playful spirit and will test my new owner from time to time. I enjoy playing ball, going for walks, and even love the thrill of riding in the car. I've got a robust understanding of commands like 'yes,' 'no,' 'here' for recall, and will patiently wait in my crate until I'm either leashed or hears the cue 'free.' If I don’t follow commands, I know I’ll be returning to my crate, which helps reinforce good behavior. What I need most is a patient, consistent, and strong leader who will follow through with my commands. With the right guidance, I will be a loyal, loving companion who will bring endless joy to my new home. I'm house-trained and will politely scratch at the door and whimper if I need to go out. I know a bunch of cool tricks like sit, stay, lay down, jump, gentle, shake, and high five, and I walk beautifully on a leash. I am also a fetch fanatic and loves nothing more than a day at the beach or sunbathing in the yard. I'm an energetic guy who needs plenty of exercise and space to explore, so I'm not the best fit for indoor-only living. I am an escape artist if I find a hole or gap in the fence, so a secure yard is a must. I am a pro at socializing with other dogs, making me the perfect playmate for any doggy friends I meet, but not a fan of cats. I am great with older children but young children are an unknown as I haven't been around any. And while I'm a total softie most of the time, I do have a bit of a "no-no" attitude when it comes to nail trimming—so fair warning there! This might be something to consider with a professional groomer. I was surrendered by my previous owner but I'm ready to find my forever home with a family who can keep up with my active lifestyle and shower me with the love and attention I deserve. If you're looking for a fun-loving, adventurous, and affectionate pup to join your family, I am your guy! If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online application. Hi, I'm Ginness, a Labrador X who's ready for my second act! I'm less active these days, probably because I've been lounging in the yard for too long, but I still know all the tricks: come when called, sit on command, and walks like a pro on the leash. I am definitely not a fan of cats—let's just say they had a "difference of opinion" in my past. As for children and other dogs, well, that's a bit of a mystery. So, if you're looking for a senior dog with a huge heart and a bit of a backstory, I may be your girl. I need a little time to open up and trust you, but once I do, you'll have a devoted friend for life. I'm an indoor dog at heart and I enjoy the simple pleasures in life: peaceful walks in the park, relaxing in the shade, and playing with my favorite toys. I am also a fan of the beach and ocean, and I especially love a good splash in a kiddie pool to cool off. I'm also a toy enthusiast with an agility tunnel talent! I enjoy treats, especially jerky! I am barrier reactive and can be nervous, but once you earn my trust and get me on a leash, you'll see my true colors shine. I'm making new friends with staff and volunteers, relishing my time in my play yard too. I know basic commands - 'sit', 'down' and 'shake', walk beautifully on a leash and take treats very gently. It's not known if I'll be best buds with other dogs, if I'd get along with cats or if I'd do ok in a home with children. Right now I need a patient and experienced adult to show me that the world isn't so scary, and that I can feel safe and loved. I had a challenging start, and I am searching for someone to take a chance on me. I need an understanding family who can provide structure, patience, and lots of love to help me overcome my fears and blossom into the loyal companion I was always meant to be. Could you be the one to unlock my heart and show me what it means to be loved? If you're willing to open your heart and guide me on my path to healing, you'll be rewarded with the devoted companionship of a dog who will forever be grateful for the second chance you gave me. Adopting a dog in Ventura County
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
