8. Bruno
Adult (4 years 11 months) · Male · Dachshund / Mixed (short coat) · 49 mi from Ventura

Meet Bruno
A sweet soul with a love for company and cozy blankets
Male • Standard Dachshund, mix • Approximately 5 years old • 24 pounds
With his warm brown eyes and affectionate nature, Bruno has a way of making you feel like the most important person in the room. He enjoys attention from adults and children alike, and when he’s especially happy to see you, he’ll stretch up against your legs to get a little closer.
Read more about Bruno
Bruno appreciates the simple pleasures: a leisurely walk, a tasty treat, a friendly game of chase, and a comfortable couch beside his people. In true dachshund fashion, he loves burrowing into pillows and blankets. If your idea of a lovely evening includes a cozy spot and a devoted companion, Bruno would be happy to join you.
He has been friendly and nonreactive with the dogs he’s met so far, both large and small. He plays appropriately with his foster sisters and enjoys their company. Found as a stray alongside another dog, Bruno also shared space with other dogs during his shelter stay.
Bruno walks beautifully on a leash, making outings together a pleasure. Toys haven’t caught his interest just yet; for now, people, treats, and his canine companions seem to be his favorite things.
He is still working on his indoor manners and currently marks in the home. His foster family is managing this with belly bands, and his adopter should be prepared to continue patient, consistent housetraining as he adjusts.
Bruno would love a family who will include him in everyday life, enjoy his affectionate personality, and give him the time and guidance he needs to settle in. Another friendly dog could be a lovely match, given how much he enjoys his foster sisters.
Could your home be Bruno’s next cozy place to land? Submit an adoption application through Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles and tell us about the life you could share with this lovable boy.

I'm crate trained, though I'm still working on house training, so a patient and understanding owner will be ideal. I have a high prey drive, so a home without smaller pets or livestock is essential. I'm reactive to other male dogs or strong-willed dogs but is accepting of submissive females of my own size. I need a quiet place with minimal distractions to thrive, as I can become easily stimulated and is a strong chewer who may try to explore beyond normal fencing. One of my favorite activities is splashing around in kiddie pools—it's my idea of heaven! However, I don't do well being left alone at home for long periods, as my investigative nature leads me to explore my surroundings. With the right environment and a loving family, I am sure to bring joy and laughter to your life. If you're ready to give unique and wonderful me the home I deserve, please put in an online application to meet me. *Thank you to Sharon for sponsoring this wonderful dog at the Burnice Kraemer Sanctuary and giving him the chance for a better life.

Although I'm still working on my house training, with patience and love, I'll have it down pat in no time. With my playful and loving personality, I will absolutely thrive in a home where I can bond with my family and be a part of their everyday lives. I'm good with other dogs and children, but cats are an unknown. I don't like being alone all day, so I'd be best suited for a home where someone is around to keep me company. Since I'm just a puppy, children in the home must be at least 6 years of age. I know I'm cute and everyone will want me, but please be sure you're ready to take on a puppy as it's similar to having a newborn (2-legged kind) in the home. It's a lifetime commitment, not a temporary one where the love and attention wears off after I'm grown. If you're ready and able to give me a lifetime of love and wonderful memories, please fill out an application to meet me.

If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online application. Hi, I'm Anton, a fun and energetic French Bulldog X brimming with potential and in need of a loving home. I am a special guy who loves to play fetch and takes walks like a pro on a leash. I enjoy love, affection, attention, and toys, and can be a delightful companion for those who understand my needs. My previous owners had to surrender me because they could not provide the care I require.
Read more about Anton
I have some challenges that need attention from a patient and experienced owner. I would do best in a home with no cats or other dogs, and due to my food aggression, I may nip or bite when eating. I am also scared of loud trucks, so a calm and quiet environment would be ideal for me. I am house and crate trained, which is a great start! I will need continued training and behavior correction to help me become the best version of myself. I am not suitable for homes with young children but might do well with older children who know how to respect a dog's space and boundaries. I am looking for that special someone who can give me the time, love, and training I need. If you are up for the challenge and believe you can provide a stable, loving home, please fill out an online application to come and meet me. I am ready to give all my love and affection to the right family.

I have already undergone formal training and learn quickly, but I've got a bit of a playful spirit and will test my new owner from time to time. I enjoy playing ball, going for walks, and even love the thrill of riding in the car. I've got a robust understanding of commands like 'yes,' 'no,' 'here' for recall, and will patiently wait in my crate until I'm either leashed or hears the cue 'free.' If I don’t follow commands, I know I’ll be returning to my crate, which helps reinforce good behavior. What I need most is a patient, consistent, and strong leader who will follow through with my commands. With the right guidance, I will be a loyal, loving companion who will bring endless joy to my new home. Meet Cleo — Your New Best Friend and Forever Shadow! ❤️
Say hello to beautiful Cleo, an absolutely darling black-and-tan dachshund with soulful brown eyes, an irresistible little face, and a heart full of love!
At approximately 1½ years old and 18 pounds, Cleo is what we affectionately call a tweenie — that wonderful size right between a miniature and a standard dachshund.
And this little girl is an absolute sweetheart!
Read more about Cleo
Cleo has a wonderfully sweet, affectionate, and easygoing temperament. She adores people of all ages, children and adults alike, and seems to believe that everyone she meets is a friend she hasn't had the pleasure of cuddling with yet!
Speaking of cuddling, Cleo is a champion snuggler. She's happiest being close to her people, and if you're looking for a devoted little companion who wants to be wherever you are, you've found your girl. Cleo is going to be someone's very own four-legged shadow! Whether you're relaxing on the sofa, moving from room to room, or settling in for the evening, you can expect Cleo to be right there beside you.
But don't let her love of cuddles fool you! Beneath that sweet exterior is a spirited young dachshund who's just waiting for her chance to run, explore, and enjoy life at full speed. Once her veterinarian gives her the all-clear, we have a feeling this little lady is going to have a wonderful time stretching those short legs and showing off her playful side!
Cleo was recently spayed and is currently recovering from surgery, so she's taking things easy for now and enjoying some extra TLC.
❤️ Cleo is currently being fostered in Calabasas, California.
With her loving personality, affectionate nature, and enthusiasm for everyone she meets, Cleo is going to make one very lucky family an incredibly devoted companion.
Cleo isn't quite ready for adoption just yet!
We're giving her the time she needs to fully recover and settle into foster care. But don't worry — we'll let everyone know as soon as this beautiful girl is ready to begin her search for a forever home!
For now, please join us in welcoming sweet Cleo to the DRLA family! ❤️

I am an affectionate, outgoing, and confident Husky / Australian Shepherd who is always up for a good time. My playful nature makes me a blast to be around, and my confidence means I'm always ready to tackle new adventures.
Read more about Homie
I'm house-trained and will politely scratch at the door and whimper if I need to go out. I know a bunch of cool tricks like sit, stay, lay down, jump, gentle, shake, and high five, and I walk beautifully on a leash. I am also a fetch fanatic and loves nothing more than a day at the beach or sunbathing in the yard. I'm an energetic guy who needs plenty of exercise and space to explore, so I'm not the best fit for indoor-only living. I am an escape artist if I find a hole or gap in the fence, so a secure yard is a must. I am a pro at socializing with other dogs, making me the perfect playmate for any doggy friends I meet, but not a fan of cats. I am great with older children but young children are an unknown as I haven't been around any. And while I'm a total softie most of the time, I do have a bit of a "no-no" attitude when it comes to nail trimming—so fair warning there! This might be something to consider with a professional groomer. I was surrendered by my previous owner but I'm ready to find my forever home with a family who can keep up with my active lifestyle and shower me with the love and attention I deserve. If you are interested in fostering please fill out an online application. Hi, I'm Ginness, a Labrador X who's ready for my second act! I'm reserved, independent, and an oh-so-sensitive gal who was recently let go by my ex-owner who moved to a small home with a strict "no dogs allowed" policy. Poor me had to live out my golden years in the backyard—how rude, right? But fear not! I may be a bit shy at first, but once I warm up, I'll show you my playful side.

I'm less active these days, probably because I've been lounging in the yard for too long, but I still know all the tricks: come when called, sit on command, and walks like a pro on the leash. I am definitely not a fan of cats—let's just say they had a "difference of opinion" in my past. As for children and other dogs, well, that's a bit of a mystery. So, if you're looking for a senior dog with a huge heart and a bit of a backstory, I may be your girl. 27. Rusty
Young (1 year 1 month) · Male · Dachshund / Mixed (long coat) · 49 mi from Ventura

Rusty is a 1-year-old, 15-pound, neutered long-haired dachshund mix looking for a loving home. He’s currently fostered in Orange County.
Found on July 4, Rusty’s owners were never located. Now we’re helping this sweet boy find a family of his own. He enjoys walks, playtime, and the other dogs he’s met—and clearly knows how to settle in for a good cuddle!
Rusty seems to bond with men almost immediately. With women, he needs a little more time, patience, and gentle reassurance to feel comfortable. A home with plenty of companionship and people willing to let him settle in at his own pace would mean so much to him.

How to adopt from Canine Adoption and Rescue League
1. Before making your selection, please consider the following. https://www.pawsandlearn.org/contact After reading, select a dog that interests you and fits your lifestyle. For puppies under 11 months old, children in the home must be at least 6 years old. 2. Everyone in the household needs to spend some time interacting with the dog. If you already have a dog in your household, please bring your dog over to meet the dog you’ve selected. All dogs and people in the home must meet the dog you’ve selected. 3. Fill out an adoption application form (note: filling out an application DOES NOT guarantee an adoption). 4. An Adoption Counselor will review the application. Upon approval of the application, you will be contacted to submit pictures/videos to confirm that the fencing and gates are secure, and the yard is safe for the dog. 5. No dog is ever adopted from the program without a home check. 6. Adopting a dog in Ventura
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
