Patches is completely up-to-date, neutered, and ready to go! When he was first picked up with the other dogs they did have a bit of a flea infestation that has Long since been cleared up but he still has some patchy skin as a result and it is starting to come back in nicely!

Who is this sweet man? That man is Ham! He is a 4yo beagle basset mix.

Ham needs the most special forever home because he needs somebody who is willing to adopt or foster him and help him through heartworm treatment, at OBHR‘s cost!

Ham came to OBHR with two other dogs from a hoarding situation in St. Louis Missouri. He is good with other dogs and lived in a foster home in St. Louis for a few weeks with cats with no issues also. He is a shy guy who would do best with another dog to keep him company. He is up-to-date on his shots, However he is not able to be neutered until after his heartworm treatment is complete as we cannot subject him to anesthesia until his heart is healthy. All of this will be done at our cost as long as you can bring him back to our Vet in the Columbus area for treatment.

Ham will need to go to a home with a fenced in yard and he is currently located in the Columbus area. He is good around other dogs, and was in a foster home for a few weeks in Missouri with cats before he came to us with no issues. He is completely up-to-date, neutered, and ready to go to a new home! They did have a bit of a flea infestation when they were first picked up which is why they have patchy skin, but that has Long since been cleared up and he is healing up nicely! One of the vets who looked at Elmer recommended possibly feeding him in a ceramic bowl for food and water for a while until the skin around his face clears up.

- I think he would love any animal! I can only confirm he has enjoyed having a companion in an older beagle/hound mix. He very clearly loves other dogs but has no concept of personal space which is not always reciprocated by the other dog. He would love to have a fellow doggy companion that can match his energy.

I can be a little shy when meeting new people, but throw a ball for me and I'll warm right up! I am housetrained and I ring the potty bells when I have to go potty! I was not crated when my mom left the house, and I did very well left alone by myself. I love toys of all kinds: balls, squeaky toys, stuffed toys and even a basketball that I deflated and love to carry around like its my personal emotional support friend. I may pull on the leash a bit so keep a tight hold on me for walks because I do have a prey drive for little critters, including cats, that are not my friends. For my future owner, I do not enjoy the vet or my nails being trimmed, so I am used to taking trazadone and sedatives for my anxiety when it comes to medical things; this is an extra expense whenever it is vet time so please keep that in mind! I am used to eating Iams large breed dog food (chicken and whole grain) and have done very well on that brand! He wandered into a lady’s yard, probably looking for food. Instead of giving him any help, she beat him with a baseball bat. He cowered down, did not react, did not get aggressive — he just took the beating until another person saw what was happening, stepped in, and took him to the shelter. With other dogs, she’s playful but pushy, she doesn’t always listen to their cues and just wants to play, and she’ll try that approach even with dogs twice her size. She’d do best paired with a dog that has some patience and can roll with a puppy who hasn’t figured out boundaries yet, but will not let her completely take control. Most cats aren’t a good match for her, unless they are very confident and willing to stand up for themselves or very rowdy and playful with dogs, otherwise she will just jump on them trying to play. She loves people and gets thrilled to meet new ones. She just hasn’t learned yet that jumping isn’t the best way to say hello.She’s great with kids, but she plays like a puppy plays, so she’ll do best in a home with school-age children rather than toddlers who can’t handle her enthusiasm.She’s crate trained and sleeps through the night without a fuss. House training is still a work in progress. She does well on a regular schedule but doesn’t yet reliably ask to go out on her own.Daisy is going to grow into a dog who could really do something with all that drive, whether that’s agility, a job to do, or just being the confident leader of her own little pack. She needs a home ready to channel her energy rather than fight it.She’ll be around 20 pounds full grown. They love a good nap and sleep a lot, just as you’d expect. They love a car ride and a walk in the stroller around the lake in the evening.

They would probably do best in a one story home or in a home where they will be primarily downstairs. They seem to like to sleep on their own, each in their own bed, side-by-side. They seem to have limited exposure to stairs/steps. Lucy now gets up and down small steps to go in and out of the house, but is not confident in using a standard set of stairs and would need stairs to be blocked or monitored access.

The vet says they are in good shape for their age; both with some arthritis, cataracts and hearing loss. Both of their ears needed some TLC and have been routinely cleaning both with rx solution. In past vet records, there is mention of hind limb ataxia, IVDD, "swaying hind end gait” in Lucy’s record but haven’t seen any evidence of limb ataxia or IVDD and vet wasn’t concerned.

Lucy is on Prion 25mg x 1/2 tab) twice daily for urinary frequency/incontinence. Both babies have intermittent episodes of incontinence (urine and BM) - this seems to be functional vs. behavioral. They both due well with occasional reusable diapers / belly band (i.e. car rides, visits, etc).
