1. Hair Gel

Young · Male · Cairn Terrier / Mixed (medium coat) · 1 mi from Eldersburg

MEET HAIR GEL!
Hang on, folks, because this little scruff is going to wow you. He’s small, he’s cute, he’s polite, he’s outgoing and funny, he’s good with dogs and cats alike, and he’s says there’s no place like home - he just needs one.
Hair Gel is thought to be about a year and a half old, having been found as a disheveled stray. He got a bath, a bangs trim, and has bounced back nicely in his foster home. He’s quickly learned the ropes thanks to big foster brother Teddy (also a Tara’s House alum) and hasn’t had an accident in the house since the first week. Thanks to foster Mom and Dad he has learned Sit, Come and High Five!
He did exceptionally well at an adoption event where he met people of all ages; rolling over and asking for belly rubs as his signature move. If there are kids in his future home they must be over the age of 10, due to his small size.
He is active but once you get on the couch he is ready to cuddle. He sees you at the sofa and he wants to snuggle with you and the blankets. He is very chill. He sleeps in a crate with little to no protest, but would love to be invited up into bed if that’s your jam.
Hair Gel doesn’t have any vices (no food aggression, separation anxiety, or resource guarding) and he walks well on a leash. If you are looking for a little buddy to share your home with and love snuggles, sweet kisses and funny antics, look no further. He’s your guy.
Hair Gel’s adoption donation fee is $500, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for him by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org. Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.

2. Georgia

Adult · Female · Cocker Spaniel / Mixed (long coat) · 1 mi from Eldersburg

MEET GEORGIA!
Little Georgia, as her foster pawrents call her, is just blooming in foster care after being found running in traffic as a stray. Estimated to be about 4 years old and weighing 17 lbs, this little beauty got a bath and a spiffy new hair cut after getting her booster shots earlier so she is a healthy, gorgeous and very happy little girl.
Here’s what her foster mom has to say about her…
“This dog is a really, really good girl. She’s a great size. She loves to cuddle. She’s got a lot of spunk. She eats well. She loves treats. She sits, she shakes. She sits in the backseat of the car and doesn’t cry. She sleeps on the floor or in a bed although she would probably be happy if you invited her up, lol. She’s really friendly and gets along with other dogs. She’ll come up to you and rub all over your feet looking for a belly rub. She’s a beautiful brown color and very soft. She has the cutest little eyebrows.”
Although Georgia is the happy little pack leader of 3 other adorable dogs in her foster home, she is ready to find her own castle. She is a petite little thing so kids must be over the age of 10 please.
Georgia's adoption donation fee is $500, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for her by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org. Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.

3. Jiggy and Joe

Adult · Male · Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (medium coat) · 1 mi from Eldersburg

MEET JIGGY & JOE!
What’s better than a friendly little Yorkie? TWO friendly little Yorkies, of course! These fellas have been with each other through thick and thin. They’re 6 years old and are grateful to have been kept together in the second part of their story after their owner passed away, closing the first chapter. Having come to Tara’s House a little disheveled, they've had a spa day (hair, nails, teeth and ear clean-up), have seen the vet (sneezing and ear infection care) and are making a rapid come-back!
Jiggy is the smaller of the two (although both dogs also need to lose weight and are working on it in their glow-up foster phase!) and is the more outgoing of the two.

Read more about Jiggy and Joe

Joe is a little, we’ll say “rounder”, and is gentle and curious. But both boys love to love, and are friendly with everyone they meet, including other dogs. Their happy little nubbin tail wags are just about the cutest thing ever. They were incredibly tolerant of every poke and prod they got, both at the grooming salon and the veterinarian’s office, showing their gentle temperaments and sweet personalities.
They are happy little dudes that must be adopted together. They will love and be the best little companions who love to go for walkies and then cuddle by your side.
Jiggy and Joe’s adoption donation fee is $800, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for them by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org. Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.

4. Gadget

Young · Male · American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat) · 1 mi from Eldersburg

MEET GADGET!
He’s funny. He’s thick. He’s super dog-friendly. He has a foot fettish and will whizz on your kitchen floor after being outside just because. Found as a stray with Gizmo (who has since found his furever home), Gadget is now happily doing chores with foster mom and dad on the farm and is safe around chickens, horses, dogs and pretty much anything living. He’s just a happy little doofus and will be your shadow if you let him.
Gadget is a mixed breed and like lots of short nosed dogs, has had to have nares surgery to help him breathe. He also had some muscle mass to rebuild, having likely spent a lot of time in a crate. Now recovered and stronger, he is ready to find his own place (but would very much like there to be humans and other dogs in it please).
We wouldn’t exactly say Meatball is trained, but he does have excellent recall. Foster Mom says he’s like a Yo-Yo and will follow her around the farm, go off and smell the roses and run right back to nibble on her toes. He plays with the other dogs and cuddles in a big pile of puppies when it’s time to rest. He is doing better with house training (about 75% of the way there), and would benefit from a strict schedule to help him perfect this important life skill. He’s pretty young (we think he is less than a year old) and has puppy tendencies so patience is a virtue with him. He hasn’t had much experience riding in cars and was a total ditz on the way to the farm so riding in a crate is recommended.
Gadget’s adoption donation fee is $450, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for him by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org. Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.

5. Jellyfish

Young · Female · Rottweiler (medium coat) · 1 mi from Eldersburg

MEET JELLY!

She is gorgeous. She is polite. She is dogs-of-all-sizes-friendly and loves her people hard. This young lady is blossoming under our very eyes and is filling out from her very underweight initial condition when she was found as a stray. Now in a loving and structured foster home, this knock out is quickly becoming part of the family unit and is making herself a part of the three-dog pack. She runs, plays, takes structured walks with, and relaxes with the resident and visiting dogs. We can’t be happier for how life is turning out for her!

Read more about Jellyfish

Jellyfish is a natural beauty with a long tail and the most soulful eyes. She is slowly gaining the weight she should and is now about 80 lbs and approximately 1 year old. Housebroken and non-destructive, she has earned supervised access to her foster home and her foster brothers are teaching her two extremely important household skills: Relaxation and neighborhood watch. If Foster Mom is around, however, she would prefer to abandon her post and sit nearby.

Miss Jelly has had a few outings and not only did great in the car (mostly looks out the window) but was wonderful meeting new people and was sweet with all of the new humans she met. She has met kids ranging in age from 3 to 12 while on leash and happily accepted pets from all adults (men and women alike), although she sometimes still shows shy behavior around Foster Dad who is the biggest/tallest of the bunch. Due to her large size (she is also still growing) we think it would be best to go to a home with children over the age of 10 so she doesn’t accidentally knock anyone over. (She has a VERY enthusiastic greeting that Foster Mom is working on tampering down a bit.)

Jellyfish’s adoption donation fee is $500, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for her by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org. Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.

6. Maisie

Puppy · Female · Hound / Mixed (short coat) · 1 mi from Eldersburg

MEET MAISIE!
Once lost with her mama and siblings, this little girl was scared of the world and unsure of how to walk on a leash or what toys and couches are for. Her cuddly and curious side has now emerged in her foster home and she is the sweetest, cuddliest puppy.
Now about 10 months old and 33 lbs, she is thought to be a hound mix (we know what her mom and siblings look like, but not dad) and will remain a compact size. Her foster pawrents report that she is incredibly smart, active, energetic and agile. She loves yogurt, peanut butter, carrots, celery, blueberries and strawberries - and the way she sticks her little tongue out is the cutest thing ever.

Read more about Maisie

You will fall in love when she sticks it out and snores when it’s nap time! She also has amazing ears and the cutest curly tail. Her favorite toy is a Kong filled with yogurt and peanut butter, and she absolutely loves playing fetch or playing “catch me” with other dogs.
Smart little Maisie is potty trained (and knows how to use a doggy door) and crate trained and will go in at bed time (but will steal a cuddle in your bed if you let her!) or when you need to go out and do people things. She has met teenagers and did great. She is not mouthy at all and just likes to lick and give kisses. She also never barks and doesn’t care if another dog steals her toy - she will just try to play tug.
Although she is a little shy when she meets new people, once she feels comfortable (it takes about ½ day) she will cuddle you to pieces. She instantly does well with other dogs and lives with two resident dogs. They love playing and often go hiking on trails and play along the river. The little pack is adorable and Maisie is learning the ropes from them. Maisie should go to a home with at least one other dog in it.
Maisie’s adoption donation fee is $450, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for her by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org. Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions.

7. Rogue of Kyle TX

11 Years · Male · American Eskimo Dog · 13 mi from Eldersburg

Please Note: This animal is listed as a courtesy to another organization or individual. Please be sure to contact the foster/caretaker for more information about him/her.Rogue is an 11-year-old Mini American Eskimo with a lot of personality and some very lovable quirks. He is extremely food motivated and absolutely loves treats, meals, and especially Dentastix. One of the quickest ways to win him over is through snacks. He enjoys walks, going by by in the car, swimming, and anything involving water. He also loves cozy, enclosed spaces where he feels safe especially forts or blanket-covered areas where he can relax comfortably.

Read more about Rogue of Kyle TX

With people he knows and trusts, Rogue is often a wonderful companion. He can be affectionate, playful, and very normal in everyday life. Although he is cautious around new people, he has shown many times that he is capable of warming up successfully to dog walkers, friends, and extended family members over time. Rogue does struggle with anxiety, and most of his behavioral issues seem to stem from fear and discomfort rather than aggression for aggressions sake. He has bitten several people in the past and can be unpredictable at times, particularly when touched unexpectedly, touched in a sensitive area, or approached when he is feeling anxious or unsafe. Because of this, he has not been able to go to a traditional groomer for several years. He is not naturally social with other animals, but he has shown that with slow introductions, patience, and consistency, he can adapt and coexist normally with some dogs. He has not done well with cats. Rogue's biting is not in a vicious manner, more like nipping and warning to stay away or slow down. Rogue would make a good companion for an experienced dog owner that understands dogs. Rogue needs a new home because of children in the home. For more information please contact Katie Katiepleshar@gmail.com

8. Dior

Adult · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / American Bulldog / Mixed · 16 mi from Eldersburg

Courtesy post: Some dogs lose their home once. Dior has lost hers more than once, and somehow, she still has nothing but love to give.

Please take a minute to read Dior’s story. This beautiful girl deserves a happy ending, and we desperately want to help her find it.

Read more about Dior

At just 4 years old, Dior has already experienced more heartbreak than any dog should. She was surrendered by her original owner when she was only a year old, but eventually found what she thought would be her forever home with an elderly couple in their 80s who absolutely adored her. She became her dad’s constant companion. They were inseparable. She stayed by his side, walked gently beside him, and gave him the kind of unconditional love only a dog can give.

Sadly, both of her beloved humans have since passed away. Their neighbor, who is now caring for Dior, stepped in to make sure she wouldn't be left without somewhere to go. But despite their best efforts, Dior needs a new forever family of her own.

And here's the thing about Dior... she is SO easy to love.

She is a professional cuddler who loves nothing more than snuggling up with her person, preferably right in bed beside them. She has a serious obsession with tennis balls, enjoys her outdoor playtime, loves her toys, and knows her commands. She is affectionate, devoted, gentle, and happiest when she has someone to call her own.

Dior is looking for a home where she can be the one and only pet. She deserves a home where she doesn't have to compete for attention or navigate life alongside other animals. She has also shown focused curiosity toward cats, so a cat-free home is recommended.

Dior would do best in a quieter home with a predictable routine, where she can soak up all the love and attention. Her experience with children is limited, so any placement with kids would need careful consideration.

She is currently around 72 pounds and working toward a healthier weight.

We know her perfect person is out there. Someone who wants a loyal companion, a cuddle buddy, a tennis ball enthusiast, and a best friend who will adore them with her whole heart.

Dior has already had to say goodbye to the people she loved most. She deserves to stop wondering where she belongs. She deserves a home where she can unpack her bags, climb onto the couch, steal a spot in bed, and finally know that she's staying.

Let's make sure Dior's next chapter is her forever chapter.

Prince Frederick, Calvert County, Maryland. Her current caretaker is willing to travel for the right home.

Dior is spayed and up to date on vaccines.

9. Wheelz

Adult · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed · 16 mi from Eldersburg

Meet Wheelz!

This handsome 60-pound boy is equal parts playful, curious, and sweet — with just the right amount of goofy mischief to keep life interesting! At 2 years old, Wheelz is ready for a family who will help him continue coming out of his shell and show him just how wonderful life can be.

Wheelz is an active guy who loves to PLAY! Fetch is a favorite, and if there’s water involved, even better! He enjoys his walks and is generally calm on leash, making him a fun adventure buddy. He’s also great in the car and happily settles into his crate when it’s time to relax.

Read more about Wheelz

One of the best things about Wheelz? DOGS! He is dog-friendly, and having a canine buddy around really helps boost his confidence. He would likely thrive in a home with another friendly, playful dog who can show him the ropes and be his best friend.

Wheelz can be a little shy when meeting new people and may need some time to warm up to strangers. Loud noises can also make him nervous, so he’ll do best with patient people who understand that confidence doesn’t happen overnight. Give him a little time, some tasty treats, and plenty of positive encouragement, and you’ll see his sweet personality shine through.

Wheelz would love an active family with older kids (6+) who can enjoy walks, yard play, fetch, and plenty of fun with him. He’s also reported to be good with cats!

If you’re looking for a playful adventure buddy with a soft heart who just needs someone to believe in him, Wheelz is ready to roll straight into your heart.

Adult · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed · 16 mi from Eldersburg

Meet 2 year old 36 pound Lavender

Lavender came to the shelter as an emaciated stray, so not much is known about her history. But despite whatever she may have been through, she is the sweetest girl you could ever meet. She is dog friendly, kid friendly, crate trained and has yet to meet a stranger. She walks nicely on leash and really enjoys frequent sniff breaks. She may have some hearing difficulty, but what she may lack in hearing, she makes up for in food motivation! No one should have any problem teaching this gal the basics!

11. Lexi

Adult · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed · 16 mi from Eldersburg

Courtesy post: Meet Lexi!

Lexi is a sweet, lovable Staffy mix who is now in Middle River, Maryland and looking for her forever home!

Lexi was rescued from a neglected home in South Carolina, where she was left outside much of the time with nothing more than a broken-down dog house. After coming into a loving home, she has spent the past six months discovering just how wonderful life can be.

Read more about Lexi

Lexi is truly the sweetest girl with an easygoing, affectionate personality. She is a total couch potato who loves relaxing, sleeping on the bed, and hanging out with her people. She also enjoys walks and chewing on a good bone. She is house trained and is just an incredibly easy girl to live with.

Unfortunately, after peacefully living with another female pit bull mix for several months, Lexi recently developed a serious conflict with the other female. The dogs have had two significant fights, and their family has had to keep them completely separated.

Female-to-female conflicts can happen even after dogs have lived together successfully for a long time, which is one of the reasons we are very cautious about pairing two female dogs. This doesn't necessarily mean Lexi can't live with another dog. With the right introduction and personality match, a calm, compatible male dog with a similar energy level could potentially be a wonderful companion for her. We simply don't want to rule out the possibility based on her current situation.

Her family loves Lexi dearly and had planned to keep her forever, but they know the current situation isn't sustainable. They believe Lexi deserves a home where everyone can relax and where she can continue being the happy, affectionate girl they know and love.

Lexi is approximately 3–5 years old, weighs about 75 pounds, is spayed, fully vaccinated, and was treated for heartworm approximately eight months ago. She has not been crate trained, so her comfort with a crate is unknown.

Lexi has been wonderful with people and was comfortable when her 3-year-old granddaughter visited. However, because she has had very little exposure to children, her family feels a home with older children or adults may be the best fit.

We don't know how Lexi would do with cats. She loves chasing squirrels and rabbits, so a cat-free home would likely be the safest choice.

Lexi would make an amazing companion for someone looking for a big, sweet, affectionate couch potato. She loves her people, enjoys her walks and bones, and is ready to put her past behind her and settle into a forever home.

Lexi is currently in Middle River, Maryland.

Adult · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed · 16 mi from Eldersburg

Meet Junior!

Junior is an adorable, 58 pound beefy Pittie/Bulldog mix who is ready for his forever home!

You’d never guess Junior is 8—he looks and acts much younger! He is playful, affectionate, and loves spending time with his people. He’s a great listener and has lots of youthful energy and personality.

Junior is housebroken, crate trained, and does well when left alone. He has boarded overnight and done well, and he is comfortable at the vet. His previous family reported that he had no issues with people handling his toys or bones.

Read more about Junior

Junior has experience with children and other large dogs and generally did well. He seems to especially enjoy female dogs. And an added bonus—he is good with cats!

Junior is an enthusiastic, playful boy who will benefit from a family willing to continue working on impulse control during play. He shows good manners in general! Because he can be a little exuberant during play, we think he would do best with older, dog-savvy children.

At 8, Junior may be a senior on paper, but he certainly hasn’t gotten the memo! He has the playful spirit of a much younger dog while being past the puppy stage.

If you’re looking for a handsome, affectionate, playful Pittie mix who is housebroken, crate trained, good with cats, and ready for his next adventure, Junior might be your guy.

15. Sheila

Young · Female · Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler · 16 mi from Eldersburg

Meet Sheila (AKA Rowan)!
Rowan is an adorable Australian Cattle Dog mix who weighs about 38 pounds. She came to us at the beginning of September as an 8-month-old pup from a local shelter, where she was named Sheila. Her foster family has gotten to know her as Rowan, and it seems to fit her personality perfectly!

We’re so grateful we had the opportunity to bring this sweet girl into our rescue. She has truly been quite a catch, and we have no doubt she’s going to make an amazing companion for a very lucky family.

Read more about Sheila

Rowan is a complete lovebug with a happy, joyful personality. She loves people and is thriving in her foster home, where she lives happily with a male dog. She loves to play and enjoys having a canine friend to romp around with. She has also had an introduction to a cat and showed very little reaction, which was a great start! She also seems very interested in meeting children—in fact, when she sees kids outside the window, she watches them with a wagging tail and sometimes even whines because she wants to say hello!

Rowan is doing wonderfully with her training. She already knows quite a bit and is eager to listen and learn. She’s also doing remarkably well with crate training. Rowan is still learning that her crate is a great place to relax, and she settles very nicely once she’s in it. She does especially well with crate time while her foster family is away, even for several hours.

Rowan is a gentle girl, too. She takes food and toys gently and is very comfortable being handled all over. Her foster family can touch her, pick her up when needed, and even take something from her mouth without a fuss. She’s curious about the world around her, but so far her puppy curiosity is mostly focused on the important things in life: food and toys!

Like any young dog, Rowan is still learning and has plenty of growing and learning ahead of her, but she’s off to a fantastic start. She’s affectionate, playful, happy, social, curious, and eager to please—and we think she has all the makings of an absolutely wonderful family dog.

If you’re looking for a sweet, fun-loving young dog who will happily be your new best friend, Rowan may just be your girl!

16. Bill

Adult · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed · 16 mi from Eldersburg

Courtesy post: BILL WAS ABANDONED... BUT SOMEONE REFUSED TO GIVE UP ON HIM.

Bill's story began when he was just a puppy in South Florida. His foster found him a home, believing he was finally safe and settled.

But through a series of unfortunate circumstances and multiple homes, Bill eventually ended up abandoned and alone in an overcrowded rural Florida shelter—hundreds of miles away from where his journey began.

His microchip had never been updated, so when the shelter reached out, the person who had originally fostered him was contacted.

She couldn't turn her back on him.

Read more about Bill

When the shelter and rescues in Florida had no available space, she paid $1,700 out of her own pocket to transport Bill all the way from Florida to Maryland—with no real plan other than getting him to safety.

And now, Bill desperately needs help again.

The resident dog in the home has become aggressive toward him, and with a toddler in the house, the situation has become increasingly stressful and unsafe. His foster has done everything she can, but she urgently needs to find Bill a foster or forever home where he can finally settle in and feel safe.

MEET BILL—ALSO AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS “CRICKET!”

Bill earned his nickname because he loves to jump, hop, and chase crickets around the yard! This goofy boy also loves jumping over his bed and baby gates—although his landing technique isn't always as graceful as he seems to think it is.

Bill is a 2.5-year-old, 60-pound black-and-white Pittie mix who is an immensely sweet and innocent soul. He may be fully grown, but he still thinks he's a baby!

He was a cuddly, goofy, mama's boy at 8 weeks old, and he is still exactly the same today. When Bill isn't following his favorite person around, he's usually curled up somewhere soft, watching the neighborhood from the front window, or looking for squirrels and crickets to chase.

BILL IS:
Dog-friendly
Gentle with children
Previously reported to be cat-friendly
Potty and crate trained
Knows several commands
Extremely affectionate and cuddly
Goofy, playful, and full of personality

He loves being lazy around the house just as much as he loves playing outside. He's not afraid of thunderstorms, but water? Absolutely not!

His DNA results make him even more unique: 66% American Pit Bull Terrier, 16% Bulldog, and 18% Supermutt—with some Chihuahua and Miniature Pinscher mixed in!

Bill has been through so much in his short life. He has been passed from home to home, abandoned, transported hundreds of miles, and is now once again searching for somewhere safe to land.

He deserves for this to be the last time.

Bill's foster went above and beyond to save him when no one else could. Now this sweet, silly boy needs someone to step up and give him the stable home he has always deserved.

Let's help this adorable little “Cricket” finally find the family that will love him forever.

Bill is ready to stop searching for home... and finally be home.

Adult · Male · American Pit Bull Terrier / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed · 16 mi from Eldersburg

Courtesy post: Meet Valor, a resilient, brilliant, and incredibly affectionate 2-year-old boy who has been through far more than any dog should and somehow still believes people are pretty wonderful.

At 65 pounds, Valor is a big-hearted adventurer who loves car rides with his head out the window, zoomies in shallow water, and joining his humans for paddleboarding and kayaking adventures.

Read more about Valor

He is also one smart cookie. Valor knows sit, down, focus, and wait, is food motivated, and has been doing wonderfully with both group and individual training at Dogizone in Rockville. He walks beautifully on a martingale collar when his environment is calm and has been described as a stellar student.

One important thing to know about Valor is that his reactivity is very situational and is not aggression. He does wonderfully when he has room to interact and play with other dogs. He has played successfully with dogs in outdoor spaces, at daycare, and during group activities, and he has been introduced to other dogs at pet stores and while playing outside without issues. In fact, his daycare and trainers have seen him play appropriately with other dogs. His challenge tends to happen in confined spaces such as apartment hallways, elevators, or lobbies, where he sees another dog nearby and wants to get to them and play. His current living situation makes these unavoidable encounters especially difficult, but in the right environment with more space and fewer tight, unexpected interactions, Valor has shown that he can enjoy positive experiences with other dogs.

Valor has already overcome so much. He survived eviction, abandonment, and a neglectful foster situation, yet his spirit remains incredibly strong. What he needs now is not someone to fix him. He needs someone willing to understand him, advocate for him, and give him the consistency, patience, and peaceful home he deserves.

His current dad adopted him from an Atlanta shelter after Valor landed on the euthanasia list. He has invested in training and loves Valor deeply, but his busy, dog-friendly apartment building has become an extremely difficult environment for a dog who needs more space and fewer unexpected encounters. This is not a story about giving up on Valor. It is about recognizing that sometimes loving a dog means being willing to find the environment where they can truly thrive.

And we truly believe Valor will thrive.

He is adventurous, affectionate, clever, curious, enthusiastic, snuggly, food motivated, communicative, protective, and incredibly resilient. Valor is looking for his forever sanctuary, a home where he can finally exhale, feel safe, keep learning, and be the amazing dog we know he can be.

Valor is located in North Bethesda, Maryland. He is housetrained, microchipped, neutered, current on his vaccines, and has already received extensive training and support. An experienced adopter who can provide a calm, structured environment would be ideal.

To learn more about Valor, contact Aaron at (443) 904-0973 or aaronlfranklin1@gmail.com

Valor has already shown us how much fight he has in him. Now he just needs someone willing to show him that the rest of his story can be filled with love, adventure, and finally, home.

18. Ziggy

Adult · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 16 mi from Eldersburg

Courtesy post: Meet Ziggy

Ziggy is a handsome 7-year-old, 50-pound sweetheart looking for a patient, understanding family to give him the peaceful life he deserves.

Rescued from a South Carolina shelter in 2021, Ziggy has come a long way, but he still struggles with severe anxiety. Despite his fears, he has never lost his gentle, loving nature. Once he feels safe and comfortable, he's happiest snuggled up on the couch with his favorite person.

Read more about Ziggy

Ziggy is a laid-back, mellow boy who would thrive in a quiet home with a predictable routine. Loud noises, busy environments, and large gatherings make him anxious, so he's much happier relaxing at home than heading out on big adventures. He isn't looking for an active lifestyle—he's looking for someone who simply enjoys sharing a peaceful home.

He's respectful around children and other pets, preferring to quietly coexist rather than seek attention. Ziggy generally keeps to himself, making him a calm presence in the home.

Ziggy does have allergies that developed about two years ago and will require ongoing management with medication and a special diet. While his care does come with some added expense, those who earn his trust will discover an incredibly sweet, loyal companion who simply wants to feel safe and loved.

His current owner loves him deeply, but due to a demanding work schedule, can no longer provide the time, consistency, and companionship Ziggy needs. This heartbreaking decision is being made entirely out of love, with the hope of finding him a home where he can truly flourish.

If you work from home, are retired, or simply spend a lot of time at home, you may be exactly the person Ziggy has been waiting for. With patience, understanding, and a calm environment, he has so much love to give.

Ziggy is currently located in Laurel, Howard County, Maryland.

If you think you could provide the quiet, loving home Ziggy deserves, please contact Terry at ttracyotmom@verizon.net

19. Minnie

Adult · Female · American Staffordshire Terrier / American Bulldog / Mixed · 16 mi from Eldersburg

Meet Minnie – The Sweetest Little Meatball Looking for Her Happy Ending ❤️

If love came wrapped in a 100-pound American Bully with wiggly hips, floppy jowls, two different colored eyes, and a toy in her mouth... you'd have Minnie.

At around 3 years old, Minnie has already experienced more than any dog should. She and her sister were kept as junkyard dogs, and after a fight where Minnie was the one injured, she ended up in the shelter while her sister stayed behind. Despite that heartbreaking start, Minnie has never lost her ability to trust and love.

Read more about Minnie

Her current family rescued her from the Prince George's County shelter, helped her recover from kennel cough, and patiently showed her what it means to be safe, cherished, and part of a family. Watching her transform into the happy, goofy girl she is today has been incredible.

Minnie is the definition of a cuddle bug. She follows her people from room to room, adores sleeping in bed, loves giving morning kisses, and believes personal space is highly overrated. She'll happily spend the afternoon sunbathing on the deck, then surprise everyone with joyful evening zoomies before settling in with her favorite toy.

Speaking of toys... Minnie has "her spots" around the house. She carefully picks out a collection of favorites from the toy bin and carries them wherever she's decided to lounge. You can always tell where she's been by the adorable trail of half-shredded toys she leaves behind.

And when her people come home? Get ready for full-body wiggles. She proudly greets everyone by carrying one of her treasured toys, showing it off like she's bringing you the greatest gift in the world.

Minnie is house-trained, loves car rides, enjoys playing in the hose or kiddie pool, knows several commands, loves brushing her teeth, and is happiest simply being near the people she loves. She also does well with larger dogs after proper introductions and has lived peacefully with other dogs, often taking cues from them.

Because of her past, Minnie isn't a fan of being crated or confined, and loud, chaotic homes can make her anxious. She would thrive in a quieter home with a fenced yard, someone home much of the day, and ideally another medium or large dog to be her buddy.

Minnie cannot live with cats or other small animals. After a tragic incident involving the family's cat, her owners made the heartbreaking decision that the safest and kindest choice is to find her a cat-free home. They are committed to making sure she never has to return to the shelter and are determined to find the loving forever family she deserves.

Her family says it best: Minnie deserves all the soft beds, toys, treats, kindness, and unconditional love that life can offer. She's affectionate, loyal, goofy, gentle with her people, and ready to spend the rest of her life making someone smile every single day.

If you're looking for a best friend who will greet you with happy wiggles, share your bed, ride shotgun on adventures, and love you with her whole heart, Minnie may just be the missing piece of your family.

20. Indi

Adult · Female · American Pit Bull Terrier / Husky / Mixed · 16 mi from Eldersburg

Courtesy post: Sometimes the hardest goodbyes aren't just for people.

When Indi lost her canine best friend, she lost a piece of her heart. At the veterinary office, she arrived as her usual happy, social self, eager to greet everyone she met. But the moment her companion passed away, something changed. She became quiet. Calm. She seemed to understand exactly what had happened. It was one of those moments that reminds you just how deeply dogs love and how profoundly they grieve.

Now, Indi is looking for a new beginning.

Read more about Indi

This beautiful Pit Bull/Husky mix (breed mix believed) has the most striking mismatched eyes you'll ever see, but it's her heart that will truly capture you. She's playful, incredibly intelligent, and fiercely loyal to the people she loves.

Fetch is her absolute favorite game, and she'll happily chase a ball until she's convinced you've had enough. But once playtime is over, she's just as content relaxing beside you, soaking up your company. She even "talks" to her people, offers her paw for treats, and always wants to be included in whatever you're doing. She's the kind of dog who isn't just part of the family—she becomes your best friend.

Indi adores people. Adults, children, and strangers quickly become friends, and she loves riding in the car, making her an excellent companion for adventures or everyday errands.

She weighs 75 pounds, is fully house trained, crate trained, and does well staying home during a normal workday. Like many enthusiastic dogs, she's still polishing a few manners—she gets excited enough to jump up to say hello and could use some continued work on leash walking—but she's eager to learn and responds well to positive reinforcement.

Indi would love a fenced yard where she can stretch her legs and chase her favorite ball. She must be in a home without cats. While she has lived successfully with other dogs in the past, careful introductions are always recommended.

She is not currently spayed. She was reported to be up to date on vaccinations when she came into care, though veterinary records are unavailable, so her new family should plan to establish care with their veterinarian for an exam and any needed vaccines.

Most of all, Indi deserves to smile again.

She deserves a family who will help mend her broken heart, celebrate her goofy personality, and remind her that even after loss, life can still be full of joy, adventures, and unconditional love.

Could you be the fresh start she's been waiting for?

Name: Indi
Breed: Pit Bull/Husky mix (believed)

  • Eskie Rescuers United, American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc.Pikesville, MD · 1 dog · 13 mi from Eldersburg

Adopting a dog in Eldersburg

Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.

Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.

Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
