Meet Shamrock, a 5-month-old Pit Terrier mix who decided his first big adventure should be an unexpected solo trip around the Maplesville area. Unfortunately, no one came looking for this handsome little guy. But Shamrock isn’t letting that keep him down! He has officially moved on to Plan B: find himself a forever family who thinks he’s pretty darn awesome. Now, we should probably mention that Shamrock can be a tiny bit unsure when something new comes his way. But honestly? This kid is a BRAVE little explorer! Give him a minute to investigate, sniff around, and decide that whatever looked scary two seconds ago is actually pretty interesting. And people? He LOVES them. He wants to be where the action is, see what everyone is doing, and soak up all the attention he can get. At just 5 months old, Shamrock is right in the middle of one of the most important learning stages of his life. He should be busy discovering the world, learning puppy manners, experiencing new things, and figuring out how amazing life can be, not spending his puppyhood behind kennel bars. This boy has SO much potential. He just needs someone willing to be his teacher, cheerleader, adventure buddy, and forever person. Shamrock may not have had the best luck so far… but maybe his luck is about to change! Will you be the one to change it? (9/13/26 Hope)

Felicia is such a sweet and kind soul! She has so much love to give, but she needs a special person to help her come out of her shell. We're not sure what happened in her past, but we know it wasn't good. She came in as a stray and was scared of everything—people moving too fast, loud noises, leashes, bowls clanking. She would shut down and shake in fear, trying her best to disappear. Felicia has been in a shelter for about a month and is finally learning to trust again. She now enjoys her time with people and loves being carried like a baby! She’s slowly learning how to walk on a leash... baby steps! She's gets along with other dogs she has met at the shelter, but she's super shy. Felicia would do best with a patient and understanding family who can help her build her confidence. Once this girl knows she's safe with you, she'll love you unconditionally!

3. Sinbad Lower Fee In Pa
Adult · Male · Rhodesian Ridgeback / Mountain Cur / Mixed (short coat) · 18 mi from Thurmont

Sinbad is a handsome, approximately 9-year-old mix of Rhodesian Ridgeback and Mountain Cur, weighing about 75 pounds
Sinbad has spent his entire life on a horse farm surrounded by animals and family. He has lived with horses, cats, chickens, and another dog with whom he gets along well. He’s comfortable around horses, although he does enjoy trying to chase the chickens and cats if given the opportunity.
Read more about Sinbad Lower Fee In Pa
Sinbad loves being outside. Playing fetch and Frisbee are some of his favorite activities, and he always enjoys going for walks. As he’s gotten older, he’s become even more affectionate. A true definition of a lap dog, he loves hard. He absolutely loves attention from his people and will happily roll onto his back for belly rubs and cuddles. He especially enjoys relaxing in bed with the adults in the house and simply being close to his family.
Sinbad has grown up with four children and, for many years, showed incredible patience as they played with him, hugged him, and climbed all over him. As he’s entered his senior years, however, he prefers a quieter lifestyle and has less tolerance for the constant activity that comes with a busy household of young children.
One thing that’s important to know about Sinbad is that he has always displayed some resource-guarding tendencies with high-value items like his balls, toys, and bones. Once he’s finished playing fetch and takes his ball to settle down, he prefers to be left alone with it. Because of this, he would do best with owners who understand canine body language and are willing to simply give him his space when he has something he considers valuable.
His present family has grown over the years, and with children now ages 2, 4, 9, and 11, his home has become much busier than it was when Sinbad was younger. While he still craves attention and affection, he no longer enjoys the constant hustle and bustle. Now, he deserves a quieter home where he can be the center of someone’s world again.
Sinbad would thrive in an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy children who understand and respect his boundaries. He would make a wonderful companion for a single person, couple, or retired family looking for a loyal, loving dog to share their days with. He has so much love to give and simply wants a peaceful home where he can enjoy walks, snuggles, belly rubs, and all the attention he deserves. (posted 4/5/26, RH)

11/1/2026 - Videos: Meet PopTart. PopTart likes giving kisses. MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hello, my name is PopTart. My owner could not take care of me so she asked CSAC to help find me a new home. The best home for me has a fenced yard so I can run off my energy, children to play with me, and other pets for me to play with. I am young and full of energy, but I do like to bark so no apartments. I am housetrained and can have run of house. I get along with kids of all ages, other dogs and cats. Right now, I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with the CSAC. They are checking me out and making sure I am healthy.

7. Rocky
Adult · Male · Maltese · 20 mi from Thurmont

MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Rocky, and I just arrived at CSAC. I was rescued from a puppy mill. I am a little timid because I have not been around a lot of people or lived in a home as a pet. I have spent my life in a barn, a shed or a cage. The CSAC volunteer says that I am happy and friendly. The best home for me has people who have dog experience who can help with my training and acclimating to the outside world. The people in my new home should be able to teach me the skills I need to be a great pet: walking on a lead, house training, and socializing. I will need time to trust people who want what is best for me and are not going to hurt me.

9. Bandit
5 Years · Male · Beagle · 20 mi from Thurmont

NOTE- BANDIT IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR AN INDIVIDUAL ASKING TO REHOME THEIR PET. PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.Bandit is a sweet, loving beagle boy who was rescued from a neglectful situation. He spent the majority of his young life in a crate or tied outside. He didn't get fed on a regular basis and it was whatever they threw at him. Bandit is very food motivated and sometimes will hide a piece of food. He is learning that he will be fed on a regular schedule every day and has been doing much better with always wanting to eat. Bandit is about 10 pounds overweight and needs to get more exercise and lose some weight.
Because Bandit didn't have much interaction with his people he developed separation anxiety. It has gotten better with time although he still wants to be where his person is. Bandit is good with school-aged children but hasn't been tested with babies/small children.
Bandit would do well with a loving, patient, beagle savvy person/home. He needs someone who isn't away from the house for long periods of time or someone who is able to take him along. He loves to go for walks and car rides. He's not fond of water. Bandit needs a fenced yard to be off leash. He's a barker so a home that wouldn't have to worry about having very close neighbors is required. We don't know how Bandit would do with cats or other dogs.

11. Dulcie
2 Years 1 Month · Female · English Coonhound · 20 mi from Thurmont

NOTE- DULCIE IS LISTED AS A COURTESY FOR ANOTHER RESCUE ORGANIZATION. PLEASE SEE CONTACT INFO BELOW.Howdy ya’ll! I’m Dulcie (pronounced Dull-see), otherwise known as the sweetest lil’ Southern thang this side of the Miss-is-sip! I’m so affectionate my foster mama says I’m a borderline pest because of it. I know she don’t really mean it, tho. She loves the dickens out of me! She says I’m a unique cross ‘tween a Southern Belle and a backwoods country gal. I have the poise and beauty of a Belle but also love to get down and dirty! Found a pile of cow poop? Let’s roll, baby! I seem to do well and enjoy going for rides, so we can cruise those back mountain roads in your 4x4 together with the windows down.
Read more about Dulcie
You drive, I’ll sniff! When I channel my inner Scarlet O’Hare, I'm mostly a fine young lady who minds her tongue (except when I get mad and frankly don’t give a damn and say so—but that doesn’t happen too often—I really only get mad at my foster brother sometimes and have to tell him off). So, I haven’t been very vocal thus far and mama says that’s a good thing ‘cause it’ll make it easier for someone who has neighbors nearby to adopt me.I like other dogs and enjoy a hearty play session or three a day but, even being the young whippersnapper I am, I am not bounce off the wall high energy. Mama says I can call myself crate trained because I put myself in a crate when I feel like chillin’ and when she goes away, she shuts the crate door and comes back later to find that I was a good girl while she was gone. I kind of like to hang out around mama so come in and go in a crate fairly often, unlike my foster brother who will stay outside until them cows comes home (and he don’t even roll in poop; what’s up with that?!) I’ve not had any potty accidents inside either since I got here! However, there is some red, white and blue Rebel in my blood; to this I must confess. My naughty claim to fame is that I like to pilfer soft things...like dirty laundry, blankets, and rolls of toilet paper (and holy moly do I have fun makin’ a mess with those things, yee haw!!!). Maybe one of these days it’ll make mama break out some more soft plushie toys for me -n- Dewey. One can never have too many toys, I always sez. I’ve heard of these things called cats but I don’t know as if I’ve ever seen one myself to have an opinion of them. I guess that’s about it about me except that mama says she thinks I might be a good starter hound. I had to ask her what that meant and she said basically, because hounds aren’t for everyone, and I seem to be such a good and easy one, that even folks with no prior hound experience can likely handle my little speckled butt because I’m such a love bug and seem eager to please (unless there’s toilet paper involved). So if I sound like the almost perfect, not quite an angel, lovely, charming and fun girl you’ve been looking for contact the Highland County Humane Society in Monterey, VA and plan us a meet-n-greet date; I’d love to make your acquaintance (and scope out your house for toilet paper---oops, maybe I shouldn’t say that part)!! Come take me home on some country roads; you won’t be disappointed!Dulcie is spayed, 46 lbs, sponsored and includes a microchip with lifetime registration. My name is McFlurry, and I arrived at CSAC about a month ago from a shelter. I have had a tough start. I was found stray, and I had a broken back leg. Everyone was amazed that I was walking around on it. I had it for so long, the bones could not mend back together so the vet suggested amputating the leg. Unfortunately, I had to wait for surgery to remove the leg. I had an upper respiratory infection and a skin infection around the area where my surgery was going to take place.

Scrappy is one of eight puppies we obtained care of on 8/22/25. Six of his siblings have found furever homes, but he and his brother, Muttley, are still searching. He is a resilient and brave dog, having had a scar on his back and an umbilical hernia as a pup, which have both been corrected and proven no further complications. Scrappy loves to run, play, and explore, and would be a good companion for hiking trips and other outdoor activities. He is very food motivated (and prefers to eat alone) and could use some obedience/leash training paired with regular play time and exercise. He enjoys making friends with humans and dogs alike and would make a wonderful dog for an active family. Could he be the one for you?

He is a beautiful boy with low/medium energy who loves to lounge but can appreciate an occasional walk around the neighborhood for some sniffs. He prefers the company of humans but does fine with low energy dogs as he does not like to get very rowdy. George is very smart, and would do best in a home with a fence WITHOUT a flip-style latch, as he uses his nose as a tool!

Little Ann is an easy-going senior girl desperate to find a home to settle down in. She was recently surrendered with her father and best friend, Radar, due to an unfortunate change in her previous home's circumstances. While in an ideal world she would be adopted with her father, we believe she would do well on her own with enough attention and love. She can be shy at first but opens up quickly. She and Radar enjoy barking at wildlife and are very brave little dogs! She would do well in a home with or without a big yard but will require frequent potty breaks with her little bladder!

Phone: (540) 862-1756Isabelle is our oldest rescue and has been waiting for a home since 5/20/2025. In puppyhood, she was transferred into our care from another shelter and was adopted quite early. She was returned as a 1 year old, and after months of waiting, was adopted out again. In her last home, she served as protector of her female owner while her male owner was away on business, and got lots of TLC and training. While she was such a good girl at that home, her owners went through a divorce, and she was returned back to us last May at no fault of her own. Isabelle misses having a big yard to play in and a family to snuggle. She is a very good girl with manners and obedience and while she is near and dear to our hearts, the kennel life is not what's best for her. She would do best in a home with older children as she does not like her belly or booty touched (unless she gets booty scratches- she LOVES those), and does well with young, submissive canine companions (or as an only dog). She would benefit from a large yard to run in as she has loads of energy. We recommend a fenced in yard or a training collar, as that is what her previous owner used. Isabelle loves all people, but is especially a girl's girl. Adopting a dog in Thurmont
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
