Read more about Chip LOCAL MEET ME

Chip is a sweet playful puppy with a gentle and sensitive nature. He’s the kind of dog that looks to his humans for reassurance especially as he continues to experience many things for the first time. Chip may take a minute to warm up to other dogs and often looks to his humans to make sure everything is ok. Once he feels comfortable, he makes friends and loves to play - he’s quickly blossoming in his RI foster home with playful and welcoming pups. Chip has been around children and done very well. Chip even helped to find a missing kitty for his previous foster mom.

Being an Aussie mix, Chip has the smarts to show for it. This young guy knows ‘sit’ and ‘down’ already and is eager to learn new tricks. Foster mom thinks he may even have a future in agility once he settles a bit into forever home life.

Chip's ideal adopter would be a confident dog owner that’s able to provide structure and reassurance to young Chip as he continues to explore the world. Continued positive social interactions with dogs and people would greatly help Chip to become a confident dog.

Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. I’m super smart and friendly, always ready for a game or a gentle cuddle. My favorite thing is just going with the flow, whether it’s a quiet day indoors or an exciting adventure outside. I am working really hard on house training and am almost there with just a little more practice. I am good in the crate and am having fun learning to walk on the leash. You know what would be really fun, you and I sign up for some dog training classes together. I hear group training classes are a great way to reinforce important skills, learn some new tricks, and get some quality socialization time with other furry friends.

Looking for a loyal friend who fits right into your family and brings joy every day? I’m your pup! Let’s make wonderful memories together!

Whitney is a gal who is able to get along with everyone. Her fairly busy foster home had adults, chickens and goats. Whitney has also gotten along with other pup friends. She was playful but listened when corrected. Whitney loves people but also did ok left alone in her crate for up to 4 hours.
She was playful and loving with the children in her foster home and with new kids that she met along the way. She really looked for attention from her Foster Mom but got along great with Dad too. She also was friendly with new humans she met in her travels and enjoys going to new places. Whitney rides well in a car and likes to go for hikes and walks. After an hour or two of romping with friends, she is happy to relax and chill with some lap time. Wonderful Whitney just sounds like an all around fantastic pup who would make a great addition to just about any family. Her striking good looks match her sparkling personality. This senior boy has had the benefit of lots of love for his entire life but unfortunately, the family he was raised with had some changes and one of the resident dogs became highly aggressive to him. His former owner made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him to rescue for his own safety, and we've brought him into foster care. He is a Boston/Pekingese mix, and an absolute, sweetheart! Knight is very well socialized and meets people well, he's great with other dogs, he is loving, affectionate and a really nice dog. 26. Bash

Young (1 year 5 months) · Female · Pug (medium coat) · 41 mi from New Bedford

MEET BASH!

This tiny 11 pound 1 year old peanut is full of playful energy and ready to find her forever family. She can be shy at first, but warms up quickly to people and other pets. Then be prepared, she is ready for a game of tug of war and some tasty apple snacks!

Read more about Bash

Bash was surrendered to ProNE when her owner was unable to care for her needs. She has since been spayed and has done very well adapting to life in her foster home. She gets along well with the other pugs and cat in her foster home. One of her favorite games is playfully stealing their toys and giving chase or soliciting some tug of war challenges. She can be a little "mouthy" during play, not uncommon at her age, but it may be interpreted as biting for very small children, so older dog savvy kids would do best with her.

Bash is house trained, does well on the leash, loves her walks, and loves to go on adventures in the car. She is also crate trained. It was reported that in her first home she liked to escape her enclosure. Any areas off limits to her in a home should be safely secured. Bash is easily redirected but left to her own devices she'll happily "refinish" furniture. Another thing to keep in mind for unsupervised spaces.

She enjoys playing in the yard and is curious to explore all the areas of the fenced yard in her foster home. We would love to see her continue to enjoy that activity, but an unfenced or no yard is not a deal breaker as long as she gets plenty of time to explore the world on leash.

Bash is a healthy young dog. She has been maintained on flea tick and heartworm preventatives and is UTD on vaccines. She eats a diet of Blue Buffalo Basics Skin and stomach care and tolerates it well. She enjoys yogurt, chicken and ground beef toppers. She shows no food aggression or resource guarding tendencies with the other dogs in her foster home.

Not a big barker; she would do well in a quiet neighborhood as loud noises can frighten her. She would be fine in an active household as she loves the stimulation of interacting will all of the family members currently caring for her. Bash is a fun, energetic, sweet girl. We are looking forward to finding her a place where she can create many happy memories with her new family and receive all of the love, care and stimulation a young pug craves. Who's up for the challenge?

Puppy · Male · Australian Shepherd · 24 mi from New Bedford

Meet Kiefer!First and foremost: Kiefer is a working-breed dog. He is a 35-pound Australian Shepherd mix with a sharp mind, real working drive, and a genuine motor. If you are looking for an ornamental couch potato, Kiefer is not your guy. If you understand herding dogs, love training, and want a loyal, highly engaged partner who thrives when given a job, keep reading. The Working Brain & Daily LifeKiefer is fully house-trained, thrives on structure, and is happiest when his brain and body are both put to work. A couple of quick laps around the yard won't cut it. He needs daily mental enrichment, structured walks, puzzle toys, and consistent training sessions.

Read more about Kiefer

He is intensely food-motivated, eager to please, and loves learning new jobs. Once he has had appropriate physical and mental outlets, his "off switch" kicks in, and he will happily settle with a frozen Toppl, Kong, or chew. The Snuggle RealityInside the house, Kiefer is an absolute Velcro dog. Personal space does not exist in his world. If you sit down, expect 35 pounds of dog draped across your lap, leaning his entire body against you for pets. He bonds intensely with his people and wants to be in the middle of whatever you are doing.Other Animals: Dogs & Cats Dogs: Kiefer does great with the right canine companion. He currently lives successfully with a young German Shepherd and respects her boundaries nicely. He will do best with another confident, balanced dog or as the spoiled solo pet. The Cat Reality: Kiefer previously lived successfully with cats, but with a massive caveat: they were battle-tested, dog-savvy cats who would actively hold their ground and kick his ass if he got spicy. If a cat runs, his working and herding instincts kick in immediately. He cannot go to a home with skittish, timid, or flighty cats. Any cat in the home must be extremely confident and experienced with high-drive dogs. The Training in ProgressLike many working breeds, motion catches his eye. On leash, Kiefer settles into a great stride, but he is actively working through fixation on fast-moving triggers like bicycles, scooters, skateboards, cars, and small wildlife. When he fixates, he will bark or lunge if not redirected. He needs a handler who understands how to manage threshold distances and advocate for him in public. The Ideal MatchKiefer is not looking for a first-time dog owner. He needs an experienced adopter who knows herding or working breeds inside and out. He needs a home that offers clear boundaries, daily mental stimulation, continued leash neutrality training, and an active lifestyle. In return, you get an extraordinarily smart, deeply loyal shadow who will dedicate his entire life to you. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. Bringing a dog home to your cat

Tell the rescue about your cat: their age and how they react to dogs. A dog who has lived calmly with one cat may still want to chase a cat that runs.

Introduce them slowly. Keep them apart for the first few days and swap bedding so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior.

Make sure the cat can always get somewhere the dog can't reach, like a high shelf or a room behind a baby gate, and keep the litter box and cat food out of the dog's way.

How do I introduce a dog to my cat?

Slowly. Keep them apart for a few days so they get used to each other's scent, then let them meet with the dog on a leash, rewarding calm behavior. Always give the cat an escape route the dog can't follow.
