5. Milo 2
Adult · Male · Australian Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 89 mi from Lansing

Meet Milo! Milo is a 4-year-old boy looking for a new home where he can have plenty of room to play, explore, and, most importantly, show off his frisbee skills! Milo loves treats, enjoys car rides, and absolutely loves the beach. He’ll even venture into the water up to his shoulders! He also knows several commands, including sit, roll over, and lay down. Although here at the shelter he has just been doing sit and jump Milo is housebroken and kennel trained. He does well for baths and brushing, and he’s even good at the vet! He has a funny little habit of carrying shoes around the house, but don’t worry… he doesn’t chew them.
Read more about Milo 2
He has also been known to counter surf when there’s food involved, so you may want to keep those snacks out of reach! On walks, Milo does well on leash but can pull when he spots another dog. He has previously lived with two other dogs, but he has shown some food-related aggression toward another dog, so feeding separately and a proper meet-and-greet with any potential canine siblings would be important.Milo previously lived with a fenced yard and figured out he could jump it. Because of his escape-artist tendencies, his future family will need to be extra mindful about keeping him safely contained. Most importantly, Milo needs a home without small children.Milo has so many great qualities packed into one handsome guy. He’s playful, smart, housebroken, loves adventures, and is ready to find a family who understands his needs and will love him for exactly who he is. ❤️Interested in adopting? 6. Bizkit
Puppy · Male · Belgian Shepherd Malinois · 80 mi from Lansing

From the moment Bizkit stepped foot on the ranch, it was like he lived here his entire life… Goofy goofy goober Curious and confident BIG (and I mean big) puppy with lots of energy; yet still has a good off switch Doesn’t know a stranger! Loves kids, women, men…. Just everyone! Even the Vet! Loves to play with his foster siblings (even if Auntie Freya yells at him he just takes the correction and moves on to other things)He thinks cats are a little creepy Loves his pony pals tho! And he doesn’t harass them just nose boops and sniffs Car rides? Yes please! Love them Water?? Best thing ever!! Bizkit might be part mermaid Hiking and long walks are a favorite activity of his.
Read more about Bizkit
He can happily go for miles. He keeps up with the big dogs and still has enough sense to check in with his humans. Bed time snuggles are a must… thinks he’s a lap dog Athletic?? once he grows into his extra long legs and big floppy body…. But he tries his best. Knows basic obedience and how to shake! Recall it great and working on staying in a sit for more than two seconds Definitely still a puppy however; we are working on boundaries and staying out of personal space. He is mouthy at times but in a gentle manner. Isn’t overly barky. He barks when playing with his foster brother but isn’t over the top noisy all the time. Can settle quickly in the crate at bedtime and is working on crating during short daytime periods. Overall Bizkit will be a fantastic pet. I don’t necessarily think he is suitable for working but he is already an expert in being a good boy and will make an active family very happy. He does need room to get that energy out tho! As long as you are paying attention to him potty training is going well and the accidents he has had have been at the back door so he 100% understands the assignment just needs time to be able to hold it All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and six month subscription. Mallory’s current owner is elderly and, unfortunately, is no longer able to give her the care and activity she needs. Rather than asking Mallory to continue in a situation that isn’t the best fit for her, her owner reached out to MAD to help find her a home that can better accommodate her energy, needs, and Malinois spirit.Mallory currently lives with both a Yorkie and a German Shepherd, so she has experience sharing her home with other dogs.

19. Rambo located in Washington
Young · Male · Belgian Shepherd Malinois · 80 mi from Lansing

#MADLoveRambo is making himself right at home, and this big goofball just keeps getting better! Rambo has been with his foster mom and dad for a few weeks now, and he's settling in beautifully. He's a big, goofy softie who loves his humans, gets the zoomies, rolls around in the grass, plays chase, and apparently considers opening the trash can a perfectly acceptable hobby. But this boy is also a pretty quick learner!Training: Rambo is working on clicker training and catching on FAST! He's learning his basics, working on his "leave it" command, and building his confidence along the way.Leash manners: Huge improvements! He's making great progress with his walks.Backyard adventures: He's doing super well off leash in the backyard and loves having room to explore and play.Crate life: He LOVES his crate and goes right in without any fuss.

Who knew a big boy could be so easy about bedtime?Cat updates: His first interaction with cats went really well, and he's been practicing his manners around them. We're working toward peaceful coexistence, and so far, so good!Puddle patrol: If there's a puddle, Rambo will find it. If there's mud involved, even better. We have a feeling spa days are going to become a regular thing around here! And then there's his heart...For a guy who was left out in the desert to fend for himself, Rambo sure loves being close to his humans. He wants to be part of everything, loves a good cuddle, and is still looking to build that special bond with his person. He's a big boy with an even bigger soft spot for the people he loves. He also comes with some pretty entertaining sleeping positions. So what kind of home is Rambo looking for? Someone who enjoys a little adventure, is happy to continue his training, and understands that confidence and trust grow with time. He doesn't need to be an Olympic athlete. He'd much rather be your companion, your shadow, your playmate, and your very large snuggle buddy.Rambo is about 1.5 years old and currently living with his foster family in Washington. He's come a long way from being left alone in the desert. Now he just needs someone to show him that he's home for good.Interested in Rambo? 22. Lua
Adult · Female · Anatolian Shepherd (short coat) · 61 mi from Lansing

Who wants to adopt Lua who thinks taking naps are her job?Lua is a 3yo (estimated) Anatolian Shepherd @ 73 lbs who is spayed, UTD on vaccines, fully vetted, and completely housetrained. She has been an absolute joy to have in our family. She is very friendly, quiet (rarely barks), calm, and easy going. She does well in the crate and prefers it when left alone and sometimes when she just wants to chill in it. She loves naps and bedtime and sleeps like it’s her job! She likes chew toys and treats and giving love licks to anyone willing to accept. Lua LOVES toys and plays fetch with herself or anyone wanting to join in.
Read more about Lua
She knows “sit” and is working on other commands. She is doing well on the leash and loves to sniff her way around the neighborhood as we walk. She does much better in the car now that she’s more familiar with riding and on her last trip to the vet sat quietly looking out the window. We don’t have other pets, but she did well in playgroup at the shelter and recently at another foster’s home with medium and large dogs. She very much enjoyed playing and spending time with them. She enjoys wandering around the yard so a fenced yard is needed. Lua is an amazing dog who will make a wonderful, calm, loyal family member. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $300.00. If you would like more information about Lua, please email us at projecthoperescue@gmail.com. To apply to adopt, please visit our website at www.projecthoperescue.org.

23. Finley
Young (2 years) · Male · Labrador Retriever (medium coat) · 66 mi from Lansing

Meet Finley-Finn, one of our newest residents at the Mikey & Me Kennels for Happy Days Rescue.
Finn is a 2 year old Black Lab mix and he’s slowly learning that the world can be a safe and exciting place. We are looking to place Finn into a loving Foster home while he continues to embrace his new life. Mikey & Me and Happy Days Rescue will cover all standard expenses while Finn is being fostered.
Read more about Finley
Finn arrived at Mikey & Me in late August and he was afraid to go outside. But he is beginning to overcome this fear with noticeable improvement every day. He came to us underweight but he is gradually gaining weight and feeling better. Thankfully, he tested negative for Heart Worm disease at his first Vet appt. in Dexter.
While he may be reserved with new people at first, Finn’s gentle nature shines through once he begins to feel comfortable. Even with his current level of fear, Finn has never growled, tried to nip, or reacted in any way to any of our 70+ volunteers. Finn does well with other dogs and seems to gain confidence when he has canine companions around. He would likely thrive in a home with another friendly, well-balanced dog who can help show him the ropes and boost his confidence.
Finn is very sweet at heart and just needs patience, kindness, and time to fully open up. In the right home, he has all the potential to grow into a loyal, loving companion who bonds deeply with his person.
If you’re unable to Foster, please consider sharing this post to help Finn find a safe, loving, and quiet home. When he’s ready, his foster family will have the first chance at adopting Finn into their home.

25. Malibu
Young · Female · Great Pyrenees · 89 mi from Lansing

Meet Malibu, our sweet, shy girl who deserves a fresh start!Malibu is a 2½-year-old Great Pyrenees with a gentle soul and a timid personality. Right now, the world seems a little overwhelming to her, and she’s still trying to figure out who she can trust. But underneath that shy exterior is a sweet girl who just needs someone willing to give her the time, patience, and love she deserves.Unfortunately, she also came to us with an injury on one of her hind legs. She’s not putting much weight on it, and from the looks of things, we’re wondering if she may have spent time tied up. We can’t say for certain what happened.
Read more about Malibu
She’ll be heading to the vet to have her leg examined so we can figure out what’s going on and get her feeling better.Being only 2½ years old, Malibu still has plenty of learning and growing to do! She’s reportedly good with kids and other dogs, although she hasn’t been around cats. She’s has been known to chew on things. She’s also a fan of toys, treats, and even bath time!Right now, our biggest priority is making sure Malibu is comfortable, healthy, and knows she’s safe. We don’t know everything about her past, and we wish she could tell us what she’s been through. But we do know that her past doesn’t have to define her future.Malibu deserves a home where she has room to stretch her legs, people who understand her breed, and most importantly, a family who won’t rush her as she learns to trust. She’s not the kind of dog who’s going to walk through the door and immediately show you her whole personality (at least so far she’s not). She’s going to need a little time, a little reassurance, and someone who sees the potential in the quiet girl standing in front of them.Interested in adopting? Adopting a large dog in Lansing
Large dogs need room to stretch out and plenty of exercise: at least one good walk a day, and a secure yard is a bonus. Check your lease too, as some landlords limit the size or breed of dog.
Start training from day one. A big dog who walks nicely on a leash and doesn't jump up is a pleasure to live with, and many rescues can recommend a local trainer.
