1. Delilah
Adult · Female · German Shepherd Dog / Terrier / Mixed · 21 mi from Lakeville

Meet Delilah, a gentle, easygoing girl whose idea of a perfect day involves belly rubs, cozy couch time, and being surrounded by people who love her! This 4-year-old German Shepherd mix weighs 70 pounds and has a heart as big as her love for snuggling. Delilah is a true couch potato who would much rather relax with her favorite humans than go on a long hike or run a marathon. She enjoys leisurely walks, especially when there is plenty of time to sniff and explore and is happy with a couple of short walks each day.Delilah is wonderful with children of all ages and is calm, patient, and gentle when little ones come by to pet her.
Read more about Delilah
She also gets along with other dogs, especially those who are laid-back and respectful of her space. She enjoys playful outings with canine friends but prefers not to roughhouse, and rowdy, reactive, or overly enthusiastic dogs can make her feel nervous. She has also lived with cats in foster homes and reportedly ignores them, making her a potential fit for a home with feline friends. At home, Delilah is quiet, house-trained, and wonderfully content to spend an evening lounging on the couch with her people. She loves belly rubs, affection, and kibble, and she’s recently started discovering the fun of toys! She’s still learning how to play and beginning to get the hang of it. She may not climb into your lap, but she will happily rest her head or a paw against you to stay close. Just be prepared to share the couch, because Delilah is perfectly capable of claiming the whole thing!Delilah does have some separation anxiety and takes medication to help manage it. She may get into a little mischief while you're away, such as relocating your shoes, but she does not need to be glued to your side. She simply likes knowing someone is home and can eventually settle down for a nap when left alone. She is not crate-trained and is uncomfortable with being crated, so her future family should be prepared to accommodate her without relying on a crate. And one more thing about this princess: Delilah is not a fan of wet paws! A little drizzle may earn you a very judgmental look as she wonders why anyone would expect her to venture outside in such conditions. She will happily wait for better weather if given the choice.Delilah would love a home where she can enjoy plenty of companionship, gentle affection, and a relaxed daily routine. A family with multiple people would be especially nice, and another calm, compatible dog could be a bonus, though she doesn't need a canine companion to be happy. If you're looking for a sweet, low-key friend who will happily trade adventure-filled days for cozy evenings and endless belly rubs, Delilah might just be your girl!If you are interested in Delilah, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Meet Milo!
Milo is the newest member of the Underdog family, and we’re excited to get to know this fun-loving, energetic boy! Read more about Milo
Friendly doesn’t even begin to describe Milo! Whether you’re an old friend or someone he’s meeting for the very first time, Milo wants to say hello. He loves people and is always ready to make a new friend.
At around one year old, Milo is still a young pup with plenty to learn. He’ll benefit from continued obedience training, especially when it comes to leash manners and walking skills. He’s also working on some typical young-dog behaviors, such as counter surfing and barking when he gets excited or wants to express himself. With time, consistency, and positive reinforcement, Milo has so much potential to become an amazing companion.
This active boy loves going on long walks where he can sniff all the wonderful smells the world has to offer. Squirrels don’t seem to distract him too much, but bunnies definitely catch his attention! When it’s time to play, Milo is a big fan of fetch, balls, and durable chew toys.
Milo is looking for a person or family who can keep up with his energy, provide structure and training, and include him in an active lifestyle. He’ll thrive with someone who has the time and patience to help him grow into his best self while enjoying all the fun and adventures life has to offer.
In return, you’ll get a smart, playful, affectionate companion who will fill your days with laughter, love, and plenty of tail wags.
Could Milo be the missing piece in your family? ❤️
Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.

Adult · Male · American Bulldog / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed · 21 mi from Lakeville

Looking for a loyal sidekick with a giant personality packed into a perfectly sized mix? Meet Rupert! This handsome bully mix is around 3 years old, weighs 68 pounds, and has mastered the art of being both a goofy best friend and a devoted companion.Rupert is completely house-trained, crate-trained, and an all-around gentleman in the home. He happily trots into his crate for a treat, settles quietly, and has never had an accident in his foster home. He knows several commands, including sit, shake, down, and wait, and walks very well on a leash. He loves to train, especially if there is cheese involved.
Read more about Rupert
While Rupert can be a little cautious when meeting new people, he doesn't take long to warm up. Offer him a hot dog or toss a ball his way, and you'll likely have a friend for life. Once you've earned his trust, Rupert's affectionate, loyal nature shines through. He loves being close to his people and would make an incredible companion for someone who appreciates the devoted personality that guardian dogs are known for.Speaking of balls, BALL. IS. LIFE. Rupert's favorite hobby, favorite toy, and favorite pastime all involve a ball. Whether he's playing fetch, showing off his catching skills, or simply lounging in the yard chewing on his latest prized possession, Rupert is at his happiest when a ball is nearby. Future adopters should be prepared to maintain a healthy "ball budget" for this enthusiastic collector! Rupert also enjoys squeaking soft toys with his nose and carrying them around the house like they're his babies.Rupert has a medium energy level and is easy to satisfy with a daily walk, some fetch, and mental enrichment. After that, he's perfectly content relaxing beside his humans. He isn't vocal, doesn't struggle with separation anxiety, and has been wonderfully patient as he continues settling into foster care.Rupert's ideal home will likely be adults only and with someone who understands the unique qualities of guardian breeds. He would thrive with a single person or a couple who appreciates his loyal nature and is committed to providing the structure, boundaries, and consistency that help him feel confident and successful. Rupert is a smart, obedient dog who does best when he has clear expectations and a trusted person to guide him. When he is with the right human, he is one of the easiest dogs! He doesn't need a full social calendar, he just needs some quality play and relax time with his trusted people. Rupert would do best as an only pet or with a compatible canine companion after a proper introduction. He coexisted and played beautifully with a 5 month old foster puppy in his foster home and has made a few other canine friends.Rupert's foster family describes him as sweet, loyal, and an absolute ham. He loves rolling in the grass, dramatically flopping onto his back for belly rubs. He also will rarely turn down a hug invitation! If you're a confident adopter who appreciates a dog with a thoughtful heart, a playful spirit, and enough loyalty to last a lifetime, Rupert may be the perfect match for you.If you are interested in Rupert, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $250. 7. Chase
Young · Male · German Shepherd Dog / Terrier / Mixed · 21 mi from Lakeville

If you’re looking for a handsome German Shepherd mix with a playful spirit, a love for adventure, and a serious appreciation for squirrels, Chase might be your guy! At approximately 1 year old and around 65 pounds, Chase is an energetic young pup who is excited to experience everything the world has to offer.Chase can be a little shy when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly and has had no trouble making himself comfortable in his foster home. Once he settles in, he is a sweet and affectionate boy who enjoys cuddling with his people. He is generally quiet, although he will bark occasionally, and he has done well being left alone without any issues.Outside is where Chase really comes alive! He loves exploring, playing fetch, playing keep-away in the yard, and occasionally enjoying a good game of tug with a stuffed toy.
Read more about Chase
He especially loves chasing squirrels, and one of his funniest habits is jumping up a tree in pursuit of one! Chase has medium to high energy and does well with a few shorter walks each day along with playtime in the yard. Because he is an active working breed, Chase will need a secure fenced yard where he can safely get additional exercise. He has not tried to escape his foster's fence, but he does like to jump, so a taller fence would be preferred.Chase is house-trained and does a nice job settling down in the home, although he will happily help himself to the trash if it is left unattended. He is not currently crate-trained, and his foster family has been working on helping him become more comfortable with a crate. Chase is still learning his manners and can be a bit of a naughty youngster. He may jump up or grab at clothing when he gets excited, but he is eager to learn and responds well to patient, consistent guidance.Chase has not yet been introduced to other dogs, so we do not know how he would do living with one. When he sees dogs while out on walks, he gets very excited and may bark, pull, jump, or whine. His behavior appears more playful and enthusiastic than aggressive or hostile, but he will need appropriate introductions and continued work on his leash manners before sharing a home with another dog.Chase has also never lived with a cat. He has a high prey drive and becomes extremely interested when he spots cats outside, pulling heavily toward them, so a home without cats may be the best fit. His foster family cannot predict how he would respond to a resident cat.Chase has had limited experience with children. He has been petted by kids while out on walks and did well, although his initial shyness meant he was not particularly interested in lingering. Because he is an excitable young dog who is still learning his manners, any interactions with children should be supervised.Chase is a fun-loving, affectionate young dog who is ready to keep learning and growing with a patient family. If you can provide him with plenty of appropriate outlets for his energy, a secure fenced yard, and lots of positive guidance, Chase would love to show you what a wonderful companion he can become! If you are interested in Chase, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. 8. Xander
Adult (3 years 2 months) · Male · Doberman Pinscher (short coat) · 20 mi from Lakeville

❤️ Meet Xander — A Heart That Never Gave Up
Some dogs come into rescue needing a second chance. Others remind us why second chances matter so much.
Meet Xander.
Xander came into Doberman Rescue Minnesota about five months ago after being rescued from a heartbreaking situation of cruelty and neglect in Texas. We can only imagine what this boy endured before his life changed, but what we do know is that he has shown us something pretty extraordinary.
Xander never lost his ability to trust.
Read more about Xander
With time, patience, good food, kindness, and love, this handsome boy has slowly come out of his shell. He has gained healthy weight, completed his heartworm treatment, and is looking better than ever. But his greatest transformation isn't what you see on the outside. It's the happy, confident, loving dog emerging on the inside.
And what a dog he is!
The Xander Rundown
Xander is an exceptional boy who is proving that his past does not define his future.
Dog Friendly: Gets along wonderfully with both male and female dogs in his foster home.
Kid Friendly: Has been great with children.
People Lover: Enjoys human companionship and has a wonderfully trusting nature.
Smart Cookie: His foster is a professional dog trainer, and Xander is learning his basic commands.
Leash Trained: Ready to enjoy walks with his people.
Kennel Trained: Comfortable in his kennel.
House-Trained: Knows his indoor manners.
Heartworm Treatment Completed: He's finished this important part of his recovery and is moving forward!
❤️ A Note About His Neuter
Xander is not yet neutered. Based on veterinary recommendations, we need to wait approximately 6–12 months following completion of heartworm treatment before proceeding.
This is an important part of allowing his body to fully recover, and his future family will need to work with the rescue and veterinary team regarding timing.
What Xander Is Looking For
After everything he's been through, Xander deserves a home where he will never again have to wonder where his next meal is coming from, whether someone will be kind to him, or if he is safe.
He would love a family who will continue building on his training, give him opportunities to learn, and include him in everyday life.
He has shown us that he can live happily with other dogs, enjoy children, and form trusting relationships with people.
Most of all, he deserves consistency, security, and unconditional love.
The Beautiful Thing About Xander
It's hard not to get emotional when you think about where Xander started and where he is today.
A dog who experienced cruelty and neglect should have every reason to be afraid of the world. Yet here he is, offering affection, trusting the people around him, learning new things, and embracing the kindness he receives.
His body has healed. His weight is healthy. His eyes are brighter. His personality is shining through.
And somehow, through everything, his heart remains enormous.
Dogs have a remarkable ability to forgive, to trust, and to love again. Xander is a beautiful example of that resilience.
He doesn't need someone to rescue him anymore. He needs someone to love him for the rest of his life.
We know his forever family is out there. And when they find each other, we hope they understand just how special this boy truly is.
Xander, your hardest days are behind you. Your best days are still ahead. ❤️

9. Tracey
Adult · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed · 21 mi from Lakeville

Tracey is a 4.5-year-old Pit Bull Terrier with the sweetest little “teefy” smile you’ve ever seen. At 74 pounds, she’s a beautiful, sturdy girl, but don’t let her size fool you… she’s really just a gentle cuddlebug who wants nothing more than to be close to her people.Tracey is fully house-trained, well-mannered, and enjoys the freedom of roaming the home. She’s an easy companion, quiet, calm, and happiest curled up beside you or tucked under a cozy blanket. She’ll gently paw at you for attention, make adorable little vibrato noises to say “notice me,” and give the softest huffs when she’s unsure and needs comfort.

Once she trusts you, her affection is endless.Tracey walks well on a leash with a couple of walks per day, and she’s a champion sniffer! She’s not high-energy, but she enjoys squeaky toys, running around the backyard and small games of catching a tennis ball. Tracey is on a weight reducing diet and is slowly losing weight. She is strong, healthy and has no known medical concerns or needs at this time.Tracey is interested in other dogs and may be happy with a low-energy canine sibling, but she cannot live with cats. Sudden movements can startle her, so she’s looking for a calm, quiet home where she can feel safe. Because of this, her foster family also believes that she cannot live with young children in case there is any rough play or loud noise.Tracey’s dream home is one filled with love, routine, and companionship. She’s not just looking for an owner, she’s looking for her person, someone who will be her safe place, her advocate, and her forever family. If you’re ready for a deeply devoted, affectionate companion who will love you with her whole heart, Tracey is waiting to meet you.If you are interested in Tracey, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. 10. Jolene
Adult (2 years 1 month) · Female · German Shepherd Dog / Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed (short coat) · 19 mi from Lakeville

Meet Sweet Jolene!
Sweet Jolene has a huge heart and a zest for life. She is incredibly affectionate, curious, playful, and happiest when she can be near her people. She’s the kind of dog who will happily follow you around the house, supervise whatever you’re doing, and then curl up nearby while you work.
At Home
Jolene loves being involved in everything her family does. She follows you around the house and is genuinely interested in whatever is happening. She is interested in the family’s dinner but does not try to take food from you.
Read more about Jolene
She is house-trained, sleeps quietly through the night, and greets every morning like it’s the most exciting day of her life. She is a wonderful companion and loves simply being with her people.
Jolene is also protective of her home and property. When people visit or walk past the house, she can bark loudly and her barking can sound aggressive. With consistent desensitization and training, we believe this behavior could be improved.
One thing to be aware of is that she does not love being separated from the family when everyone is outside without her. She may watch from the windows or doors, barking and whining, and she has been known to stand on her hind legs and damage blinds. This is something her future family should be prepared to manage.
Activity & Exercise
Jolene is an active, high-energy dog who needs both physical exercise and mental stimulation. She loves walks, playing with balls, and tug-of-war. If she doesn’t get enough activity, she may find her own entertainment by chewing on things around the house.
She would do best with an active person or family who enjoys spending time outdoors, playing, training, and keeping a smart, energetic dog engaged.
Training & Manners
Jolene is leash trained and knows basic commands such as sit and shake. She is still very treat-motivated, so she sometimes needs a little snack-based encouragement to show off her skills.
She does well away from home and has accompanied us to places such as Home Depot, PetSmart, Home Goods, and friends’ houses.
Things Jolene Loves
Going for walks
Car rides
Playing with balls of all kinds
Tug-of-war
Treats of absolutely every variety
Being with her people
Following you around the house
Getting lots of attention and affection
She is also a VERY heavy toy chewer, so sturdy toys are definitely recommended!
❤️ The Best Things About Jolene
My favorite thing about Jolene is how genuinely happy she is to see you. She is happiest simply being near her people. She’ll follow you around the house, check out whatever you’re doing, and then curl up beside you while you work.
She is sweet, affectionate, playful, house-trained, good on a leash, comfortable in the car, and a wonderful companion.
Jolene is looking for an active family who can give her the exercise, enrichment, training, and mental stimulation that a Belgian Malinois needs. In return, you’ll get a joyful, loyal, loving dog who thinks every morning is the best morning ever.
Sweet Jolene has so much love to give — she just needs the right home where her big energy can shine. ❤️

11. Wooly
Adult (1 year 1 month) · Male · Pumi / Mixed (medium coat) · 19 mi from Lakeville

Hi, my name is Wooly! I’m a super sweet boy who is already settling into the big yard house life, and I’m having a blast! I have BIG, BIG puppy energy, and I’m going to have that energy for quite a while, so my future family will need to have LOTS of patience with me. I’m playful, curious, silly, and always ready to see what fun thing is happening next. I’m the kind of puppy who will keep you laughing, but I’m also going to keep you on your toes!
Read more about Wooly
I’m still working on my potty training, and this is an area where I will need someone who is willing to be patient and consistent with me. I do pretty well with pooping outside, but when I get distracted playing, I sometimes forget my manners and like to mark inside. I’m still learning what is expected of me, and I’ll need a family who understands that potty training takes time and consistency. I would do especially well with humans who are home often and can help me stay on a routine, take me outside frequently, and keep working with me until I really understand the rules.
Obedience training will definitely be a must for me. I’m a young, energetic boy who is still learning how to appropriately interact with people, and I have been working on my mouthy puppy play. We’ve slowly started breaking that habit, but I still have a long way to go. I’m very food motivated, though, and I absolutely LOVE interacting with my humans, so I have two things going for me that should make training a lot of fun! With patience, consistency, positive reinforcement, and someone willing to put in the time, I have so much potential to become an amazing companion.
I do okay in a kennel. I may cry for a little bit when I first go in, but after some time I settle down. I do need someone who understands that I’m still a puppy and shouldn’t be expected to stay kenneled for long periods of time. If I’m left too long, I may have an accident. I’m still learning, and I’ll need a family who is willing to work with me instead of expecting me to be perfect right away.
When it comes to fun, I am ALL IN! I love toys, I love treats, and I REALLY love to fetch. Give me a toy and some space to run, and I am one happy boy! I absolutely enjoy having the freedom to zoom around and play in a fenced yard, and honestly, I enjoy it way too much to not have that as an everyday option. A secure fenced yard would be an important part of my ideal home because I have so much puppy energy that I need a safe place where I can run, play, explore, and burn some of it off.
Because I’m still working on potty training, I’m very active, and I can be a little noisy and energetic, I would do best in a home without shared walls. I need a family who understands that bringing me home means committing to the puppy stage, including the accidents, training, chewing, mouthy play, zoomies, and all the other silly things that come with being a young dog. I’m not looking for someone who expects a perfectly trained dog right away. I’m looking for someone who sees my potential and is willing to help me become the best version of myself.
I’m a sweet boy with a LOT of personality and so much love to give. I’m playful, food motivated, people-oriented, and eager to interact with my humans. I just need someone who is willing to give me the time, structure, patience, and training I need to grow into the wonderful dog I know I can be. If you’re ready for BIG puppy energy, lots of fetch, plenty of laughs, and a sweet boy who is still learning his way in the world, I just might be your guy. ❤️

13. Walter
Adult (5 years 1 month) · Male · American Bulldog (short coat) · 19 mi from Lakeville

Meet Walter! ❤️
Hi, my name is Walter, and I’m a big sweetheart who is learning that the world can be a pretty wonderful place when you have people you can trust. I’ve been slowly coming out of my shell in my foster home, and while I can be cautious and shy at first, I’m making progress every day. I may need a little time to feel comfortable in a new environment, but once I know I’m safe, my loving and affectionate personality really starts to shine.
Read more about Walter
One of my favorite things in the whole world is getting attention from my people. I absolutely LOVE being pet, and belly scratches are pretty much the way to my heart! I also have a funny habit of making myself into a lap dog. I may be a big guy, but that certainly doesn’t stop me from wanting to climb up next to you and cuddle. If you’re looking for a companion who will happily snuggle up with you and soak up all the love you’re willing to give, I might just be your guy.
I also really enjoy having canine friends. I love other dogs and can be playful with them. I currently live with two small dogs in my foster home, and I’ve been very respectful of their size and space. Having another confident, friendly dog around may even help me continue to build my confidence. I’m also okay with cats, although I sometimes forget that they aren’t supposed to be a fun game of chase! Because of that, any cats in my future home would need proper supervision and introductions.
I’m becoming more interested in toys, too! I’m still discovering what toys are all about, but large plush toys have definitely caught my attention. I’m sure with time, patience, and encouragement, I’ll continue to discover more things that I enjoy.
I’m also starting to enjoy going on walks. There is still some work to do in the leash-training department, though! I’m an extremely strong boy, and when I see another dog, I can get VERY excited and want to pull toward them. My foster family is helping me work on my leash manners, and I’ll need someone who is patient, consistent, and willing to continue that training with me. I already know some basic commands, including sit, go potty, outside, and kennel, so I’m definitely capable of learning and continuing to improve.
One thing that is especially important for me is having access to a secure, fenced yard every day. I absolutely love the freedom of being able to safely explore and enjoy a fenced-in space, and it’s something I would really benefit from having in my forever home. A fenced yard will also give me a great opportunity to get exercise, sniff around, play, and simply enjoy being a dog without the pressure of a leash.
I can be sensitive to overwhelming commotion, and busy or chaotic environments can be scary for me. I would do best with a family who understands that I may need some time to adjust and decompress when I first arrive. A calm, patient home where I can settle in at my own pace would help me feel secure and allow my true personality to come out. I don’t need someone to rush me—I just need someone willing to give me the time and reassurance I deserve.
I’m still healing physically, too. I’m currently finishing antibiotics after having an abscess that has cleared up. I have some scars around my neck, as well as a few scabs that are continuing to heal. My elbows also have some rough spots and scabs that should continue to improve with time and proper care.
Despite everything I’ve been through, I’m an incredibly loving boy. I’m learning to trust, learning to play, learning to enjoy walks, and learning that I can relax and be loved. I have so much potential, and I’m already showing what a wonderful companion I can be.
I’m looking for a forever family who will be patient with me, give me time to adjust, continue helping me with my leash skills, and appreciate all the love and cuddles I have to offer. In return, I’ll give you a whole lot of affection, companionship, and probably more than a few attempts to convince you that I absolutely belong in your lap!

16. Prince
Adult (5 years 3 months) · Male · Doberman Pinscher (short coat) · 20 mi from Lakeville

Meet Prince — A Smart Boy With a Heart of Gold!
Looking for a loyal companion who wants to be your shadow, adventure buddy, and personal snuggle partner? Meet Prince!
This handsome boy is full of personality, intelligence, and affection. He's happiest when he's with his person and would love nothing more than to be included in whatever you're doing. Whether you're heading out for an adventure or settling in for a quiet evening, Prince is ready to be right there with you.
And don't let his royal name fool you—Prince is a hardworking guy who believes in earning his rewards!
The Prince Personality
Read more about Prince
People Focused: He loves being with his person and tends to stay close, even when he has a whole fenced yard to explore.
Dog Friendly: He's enjoyed the company of other dogs and loves a good playmate. He has done well with a medium-sized female, although he has shown some resource guarding of his person in certain situations.
Cat Friendly: He gets along with cats, although he can get a little overexcited because he'd really like them to play with him!
Good With Animals: He has walked past flocks of geese with no issues other than stopping for a look.
Food Motivated: Training treats are the way to this boy's heart!
Playful & Active: He enjoys playing with dogs and even going for sprints alongside a bike with appropriate safety precautions.
A Good Housemate: He's respectful of household belongings and generally chews only on things he's been given.
This Boy Has Brains!
Prince is already familiar with several commands:
Sit
Down
Stay
Heel
Crate
He also has some pretty impressive bonus skills! He's learned fun tasks such as tucking under someone's legs while seated, providing deep-pressure contact, and working with cortisol samples for anxiety-related alerts.
He's a smart guy who enjoys having a job, but remember: Prince doesn't work for free! Treats are definitely part of his compensation package.
He's crate trained, house-trained, and sleeps beautifully in his kennel. He may whine briefly when first crated but settles quickly.
He's also a good sport for nail trims and even tolerates an electric Dremel when treats are involved. Baths? Well, let's just say those aren't his favorite spa treatment!
What Prince Needs in His Forever Home
Prince will do best with someone who understands dogs, appreciates training, and is willing to continue building on the skills he already has.
A few important things for his future family:
He needs individual introductions to anyone entering the home. Without a proper introduction, he may become protective of his space and people. Small children not recommended, only older teens and up would be best suited for him.
He has done well with other dogs but may guard his person in certain situations. A well-socialized, respectful canine companion could be a wonderful match with thoughtful introductions and management.
He can become overexcited during high-energy activities and may nip when running alongside a bike. His foster recommends using his muzzle for these outings.
Continued leash training and good handling skills are important.
A secure physical fence is recommended. His foster has not experienced jumping or digging, but supervision is still important.
Prince's foster recommends using a crate or separated area of the vehicle for car rides. He can bolt when car doors open, so careful door management and a reliable sit-and-stay routine are essential.
❤️ Why Prince?
Because this boy has so much to offer!
He's clever, affectionate, eager to learn, and happiest when he's part of someone's world. He can be your training partner, your adventure buddy, your couch companion, and the dog who follows you from room to room just because being near you is where he wants to be.
Prince needs a family willing to understand his boundaries, continue his education, and appreciate the incredible connection that comes with a dog who truly wants to work with his person.
He's got the brains, the

17. Alfa SENIOR
Adult (7 years 6 months) · Female · Boxer (short coat) · 7 mi from Lakeville

This beautiful girl was surrendered to an Indiana shelter when her family brought a new dog into the home that she just did not want to share her space with. She did not do well at the shelter at all and was completely shutdown and lost 10 pounds while in there. We are so thankful to our shelter contact and to everyone who stepped up to get this precious girl to us. Alfa is the SWEETEST and is very generous with her kisses for all. She arrived at her Minnesota foster home a few days ago and she is doing well with figuring out her new place. Alfa tested well with other dogs at the shelter, however, prefers to be the only dog in the home.

She is good with kids and good with cats. Alfa is housebroken. 7/20 UPDATE...Alfa is just the happiest girl ever. She loves toys and is great with kids. Her perfect home would have a fenced in yard or area for her to explore and trot around in. Our girl prefers to be the only dog in the home.7/27 UPDATE Alfa's foster mom & dad needed some help with her while they are out of town so her Boxersitter sent this............."Alfa is wonderful!!! Honestly if I was looking to adopt a dog, I would want it to be her. Unfortunately that's not in my near future but I'm having a great time watching her. She settled in just fine, like she's lived here forever. She really is great. She's active. Loves to run around the backyard. Eats good, sleeps good, loves to cuddle, potty trained. I hope she finds the perfect home because she deserves it! She loves kids too. No issues with loud noises or food/toy guarding. She doesn't care for being crated and has been left to free roam in the house for 4.5 hours (so far) with no issues. Alfa is wonderful with kids. She LOVES running around outside in our fenced-in area. She is a playful, bouncy, happy girl!"

18. Pilot
Adult · Male · German Shepherd Dog / Terrier / Mixed · 21 mi from Lakeville

Pilot is a handsome 2-year-old Shepherd mix weighing in at about 80 pounds of love, loyalty, and personality. This big guy may look tough, but with his people, he's an affectionate goofball who doesn't seem to realize just how large he is. Whether he's tossing his toys in the air, carrying sticks around the yard like prized treasures, or greeting his favorite humans with happy "roo-roo" noises and full-body wiggles, Pilot has a way of making everyone smile.Pilot is fully house-trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside by whining or heading to the door. He sleeps through the night without issue and does well when left in his own room while his family is away.
Read more about Pilot
While crates aren't a good fit for him due to anxiety, he has proven to be respectful and non-destructive when given a comfortable space of his own. This smart boy enjoys daily walks, playing fetch, running around the yard, snuggling with his people, and earning tasty treats. He has a moderate energy level and would thrive with an adopter who can provide regular exercise and enrichment. A securely fenced yard is ideal so he can safely stretch his legs and explore.Pilot has been working with an experienced trainer and behaviorist who is very familiar with his breed mix, and they have wonderful things to say about him. Since beginning training, Pilot has made impressive progress and continues to build his confidence and skills. He is a fast learner who responds well to clear guidance, loves to work, and is highly motivated by tasty treats. His training will continue while he is in foster care to help set him up for long-term success. To help make the transition as smooth as possible, Pilot's adoption also includes an additional in-home training session with his trainer. This gives his new family the opportunity to learn what works best for Pilot, get everyone on the same page, and address any questions or concerns as he settles into his forever home.Pilot currently lives successfully with two large-breed dogs. He can be selective of dogs that he is accepting of, so introductions to new dogs should be done slowly, intentionally, and with great care. He has also lived with cats and can coexist peacefully once he gets to know them. New cats are very interesting to him, but he responds appropriately to their boundaries and corrections.Pilot's story has shaped who he is today. He came into rescue as a young puppy from an abandonment case and has experienced multiple home transitions throughout his life. Because of this, he forms deep bonds with his people and looks to them for comfort and security. What Pilot wants most is a stable, committed family where he can finally feel at home forever.Potential adopters should know that Pilot is very protective of his home and yard. He has a bite history involving both dogs and humans, though his interactions with people have been warning bites that did not break skin. He is not a dog who will welcome unfamiliar visitors into his space right away, and he will need experienced adopters who understand management, structure, and proper introductions. For this reason, we recommend a home with adults or older teens and adopters who are willing to continue helping Pilot build confidence and maintain clear boundaries. In return, Pilot offers unwavering loyalty, endless affection, and the kind of companionship that only comes from a dog who truly loves his people. If you're looking for a devoted best friend and have the experience and commitment to help him succeed, Pilot may be the perfect addition to your family. If you are interested in Pilot, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. 22. Kota
Young · Male · Labrador Retriever / German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) · 19 mi from Lakeville

Welcome Kota to CCPAL Rescue. Kota is a 1-year-old and weighs 65 pounds. He is smart, social and outgoing. He is the most active of the two in the litter. He is a bit more shy than his brother Tug. He would do great with an active and outdoorsy family wanting a companion that has the stamina and energy to go with you. He got lots of time being held as a puppy so he does love people. Our kennel staff love Kota and he is really doing good with his leash training. He will sit and makes good eye contact. His breed is Lab/German Shepherd. These were in foster care until they were vaccinated and ready to come to the rescue.
Read more about Kota
They have had lots of attention from humans which is wonderful. It creates a wonderful puppy that loves humans and their attention. These puppies are smart, soft coats and most have the lab personality with the smartness of the Malinois. Kota is a smart boy and would be great dog for a man. He would love good direction and someone that is confident. This would allow Kota to let his owner be in charge. Both dogs would be great family pets. They can go with children and should be good with them. We like the children to be 8 or older. Young dogs are best with people that are home some and not gone 8 hours every day to work. Tug will need to finish up his training, and it would be best if he gets to spend time with his human so he can bond deeply with them. He does not mess up his kennel and goes in his outside kennel to go to the bathroom. Kota is playing in his play group of 6 puppies. The boys are all bigger than the girls. He also gets to play outside in his play group and does well in a group. He has good recall when he is off leash and likes treats. These puppies have webbed feet and should be good swimmers. He is in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get him to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the east Coast. Adopting a large dog in Lakeville
Large dogs need room to stretch out and plenty of exercise: at least one good walk a day, and a secure yard is a bonus. Check your lease too, as some landlords limit the size or breed of dog.
Start training from day one. A big dog who walks nicely on a leash and doesn't jump up is a pleasure to live with, and many rescues can recommend a local trainer.
