1. Florence
Adult · Female · French Bulldog / English Bulldog / Mixed · 15 mi from Browns Mills

Florence is an energetic fun dog. She loves to play and loves to be with her people. She tends to bark at other dogs and does not seem like she likes them too much so she needs to be an only dog home. She is spayed, housebroken and would love to spend her time with her people. We think she would be okay with older kids but because of her not caring for other dogs too much no young kids. She was dumped in a kill shelter for reasons unknown, but she is a good dog that wants to learn and spend time with a family. Exotic bully experience as we think this is what she is. She is simply adorable and a fun dog to have around.
2. Billy
Adult · Male · Pit Bull Terrier (short coat) · 15 mi from Browns Mills

Billy, Pit Bull mix, Tan, Male neutered, 2 years old
Billy is a fun and playful boy with lots of energy! He enjoys playing with toys, especially playing fetch with a ball! He seems to like other dogs, but his energy level may be too much for some. Billy would do best in a home without cats, and would do better with children over the age of 12, as he may be too much for younger kids.
This dog is at the Ocean County Animal Facility North located at 615 Fremont Ave, Jackson NJ (off of Hope Chapel Rd). All dogs are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and have age appropriate shots.

3. 9 puppies Autumn Litter
Puppy · Beagle / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat) · 15 mi from Browns Mills

9 cuties looking for forever homes. Will have two sets of shots and dewormed, also treated for a fungal infection which they had before the got to us. Sadly, in NC this is the norm. They should be small to mediums as mom was a chihuahua type and they think dad was a beagle hound type on the small side. Super cute and funny! Some have short legs and some a bit taller. This is all we know. If interested in adopting please put an application in
4. Tucker
Adult · Male · Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed (short coat) · 15 mi from Browns Mills

Tucker, Catahoula mix, Brindle, Male neutered, 6-7 years old
Tucker can be a bit timid when you first meet him, but once he warms up he loves attention, and enjoys being pet. An experienced home with a patient family that can give him time to adjust would be best for him. He came in with his housemate, Korra, and loves her company, but does not seem fond of any other dogs. He would do best with children over the age of 12 years old, as younger children may be too much for him.

Adult · Male · Mastiff / Shepherd (medium coat) · 15 mi from Browns Mills

Jeffrey, Mastiff/Shepherd mix, Brindle, Male neutered, 2 years old
Jeffrey is a very handsome boy! He may take a little time to warm up, but once he does, he is very sweet and enjoys getting attention. Jeffrey is a very big boy and is very strong when being walked on a leash. He needs a family that can handle a dog of his size and is experienced with his breed. Jeffrey does not seem to enjoy the company of other animals and would do best as the only pet in the home. He also needs a home without children, as they would be too much for him.

Nala can be a bit anxious at first but is friendly when she greets you. Once you give her a little time to settle, she enjoys playing with toys, and especially loves to play fetch with a ball. 12. Porky
Adult · Male · French Bulldog / American Bulldog (short coat) · 15 mi from Browns Mills

Porky is about a 1 year. He is very active and playful. He has lots of energy but does listen if given structure. He loves outside and loves other dogs. He gets a little fence aggressive with strangers that come near the property but its only at the fence line. Have to watch him with play time and he doesnt stop and his breed can overheat. Very active, loves people, a little crazy so we dont recommend a kid household.
13. Brodie
Young · Male · Beagle / Mixed · 17 mi from Browns Mills

How handsome is Brodie. He has such great coloring and his eyes are beautiful. He has short hair and long legs for a beagle mix. Brodie is about 2 yrs old and 30 lbs. Brodie is doing good on a leash when he goes for walks. He will pull in the beginning but settles quick and enjoys the rest of the walk. Brodie is a people dog and loves to be with people and given any chance he can get, he will get in your lap to watch tv and just relax. He does love outside time too where he can run and play fetch in the yard. He is very good, he will even bring the ball back to you. Brodie has been around several different dogs of all sizes.
Read more about Brodie
He tries to interact with them and they usually ignore him. I think he would love to find a friend that wants to play with him but also he would be great as an only dog. He has not been around cats so we are not sure how he would be with them. Brodie is housebroken as long as he stays on a schedule, just like any othe dog. He is young so he does have puppy in him. He has shredded a few toys but nothing else during his play time. Just like any beagle, they will run given the opportunity, so a home where no small kids can open the door and he can run out is best for him. Brodie is very energetic and would benefit from a structured lifestyle or formal training to help him to curtail his high energypersonality. He is just a playful boy who would love an active family and a largeyard to run around. This boy would get along with any dog, He always has asmile on his face!He wants to be everyone’s friend Right now he jumps upon everyone to say “Hi, Here I am”. He is so sweet and friendly. We areworking on his manners and appropriate greetings. He is very smart. Learned“sit” and “down” in just a few days.

14. Stellaluna
Puppy · Female · Whippet / Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 17 mi from Browns Mills

Meet this sweet little girl! At about 5 months old and and only 15 pounds, we feel she may be a Whippet–Lab mix, though her breed is a guess. She was found alone beside a highway in the middle of nowhere, and she bravely went right up to the person who stopped to help her. She’s affectionate, loves to snuggle, and likes staying close to her foster person. She’s doing great with the foster’s cats and gets along with other dogs. When meeting a new dog, she may be a little hesitant and give a small growl at first, but once she has a moment to settle in, she’s comfortable. She’s nearly house-trained, with only a couple of accidents.

16. Rollo
Young · Male · Poodle (Standard) / Mixed · 17 mi from Browns Mills

Hi! My name is Rollo and I am looking for a forever home! I was picked up as a stray by animal control and taken to a scary place called a shelter where, after no one came to claim me, I was about to be put on something bad called “the list.” Fortunately for me, BCAA saw me and said they would help me… yeah! I appear to be a Standard Poodle mix— but whatever I am, my foster mom thinks I’m one handsome dude! I had to be shaved down when I first arrived because my coat was in quite a hot mess, but just wait until all that fluffy hair grows back and it's already started.I’m a little over 50 pounds and about 18 months old.
Read more about Rollo
I’m still very much a young, energetic guy and I love being out and about. My enthusiasm can be a little overwhelming for smaller dogs, so I would do best with a dog who enjoys my playful energy and can keep up with me. But when it’s just me and my people, I’m a total cuddle bug and absolutely love attention. I’ve shown some interest in cats, although I haven’t been aggressive toward them. I’m also crate trained and have done really well in my crate without accidents or destroying my bedding. That said, I’d much rather be hanging out with you and will definitely let you know if I hear or see you and think I’m missing out!I’m pretty good on leash, although I can pull a little when I get excited about all the fun happening around me. I’m a happy, affectionate boy with plenty of personality, and I’m ready to find a family who will give me the love, attention, exercise, and guidance I need to continue growing into the best version of myself. If you’d like to learn more about me — or even better, meet me — please fill out an application at BCAAofNJ.org.

17. Beau
Young · Male · Labrador Retriever / Mixed · 17 mi from Browns Mills

Beau is a handsome 1-year-old Lab mix weighing about 55 pounds, although he’s a little on the skinny side and is working toward his goal weight of around 60 pounds. We think he may have some Hound or even Great Dane mixed in — and those long legs, slender build, and gorgeous floppy ears certainly make us wonder! Beau has the most beautiful jet-black coat and an even more beautiful personality. This boy has never met a stranger! He absolutely loves people and is always ready for pets, attention, and plenty of love. He’s great with kids, although because he doesn’t realize he’s a big boy and not a lap dog, he may be a little too much for very small children.Beau is wonderful with other dogs 30 pounds and up.
Read more about Beau
He loves running around the yard and playing with his dog friends, but he’s also respectful when another dog isn’t interested in playing. He’d love a home where he can have some room to run and enjoy his daily exercise. On leash, Beau is definitely a strong boy! He’ll need someone willing to continue working on his leash manners, and an easy-walk harness would be a great tool to help him learn. Once he gets his exercise, though, he’s not a high-energy dog and is perfectly happy to hang out with his people.Beau is also a great car rider and hops right in when it’s time to go! He knows sit and down, loves catching treats in the air, and thinks chasing a ball is pretty much the best thing ever. He does jump up to say hello, but he is very gentle about it — he’s just a big, goofy puppy who hasn’t quite realized how big he is yet! Beau is the kind of dog who will make you smile every day. He’s affectionate, friendly, playful, and eager to learn. He just needs a family who will give him some daily exercise, continue his training, and let him be the lovable goofball he is. If you’re looking for a big, goofy, incredibly friendly boy who thinks everyone is his new best friend, Beau might be your guy! Bcaaofnj.org

18. Oliver
Adult · Male · Chihuahua / Mixed · 17 mi from Browns Mills

Oliver is a cute little guy weighing in at just 14 pounds and estimated to be around 6 years old. This sweet boy has already been through a heartbreaking change. His dad passed away, and sadly his mom was not able to keep him. Oliver was left without a home. Now he’s hoping to find someone who will make sure he never has to wonder where he belongs again. He becomes very attached to people quick so a home where someone is around more often would be perfect for him. Oliver is happiest when he’s with his people. He’s a total couch companion who would love nothing more than to curl up beside you and hang out for the day.
Read more about Oliver
He loves to snuggle on the couch with you and sleep under the covers with you. He is a true chi. He’s good with other dogs and cats too. He is also housebroken and will tell you he needs to go out by going to the back door. He is also good on a leash.Oliver isn’t a huge fan of little kids, so a home with teenagers or adults would be best for him. It is the sudden movements of the kids that makes him nervous. What he really wants is a loving person or family who will include him in their lives and give him the cozy, secure home he deserves. 20. Sheba
Young · Female · Beagle / Hound / Mixed · 17 mi from Browns Mills

Meet Sheba! This sweet Beagle mix is about 2 years old and weighs around 33 pounds. And after almost two months in her foster home, we are so happy to say that Sheba has completely blossomed! When Sheba first came to us after spending more than a year in a shelter, she was incredibly scared and shut down. But with patience, love, and the safety of a foster home, she has discovered that life can actually be pretty wonderful. And now we’re getting to see the playful, affectionate, silly girl who was hiding underneath all that fear. Sheba is fully house trained and fully crate trained, and she is an incredibly well-behaved girl inside the house.
Read more about Sheba
She isn’t a high-energy dog, but she absolutely loves having time to play. Give her some toys and she will happily entertain herself by throwing them in the air, rolling around with them, or settling down with a good bone. Her favorite activity, though, might be playing with other dogs! She loves to play chase and roughhouse with canine friends who enjoy the same kind of play. Sheba has excellent doggy manners and social cues and does well with dogs of all sizes. A playful dog would be a wonderful match for her.She has also discovered that walks are pretty awesome! She loves getting out and sniffing all the new smells along the way. She does pull a little on leash, but her foster is working with her and she is continuing to improve. She currently requires a securely fenced yard because she is not comfortable pottying while on leash.Inside, Sheba is such an easy companion. She loves curling up on the couch and being right beside her foster. She isn’t a big barker and will generally only speak up if someone knocks on the door or another dog starts barking. She also sleeps peacefully and is perfectly happy relaxing with her people.Sheba is still a little nervous when someone reaches toward her unexpectedly, so she does best with people who understand that she may need a little time to warm up. She is especially good with kids who know to take things slowly with her at first. In fact, Sheba has even surprised some of the kids she has met at adoption events by giving them a sweet little kiss. She may still be nervous at busy adoption events, but that is not the real Sheba. Her true personality comes shining through when she is comfortable — especially when she is in a fenced yard playing with other dogs, tossing around her toys, or snuggling next to her foster. Her floppy ears, curly tail, playful personality, and sweet nature make her impossible not to love. Sheba has filled out beautifully and is now at a healthy weight, and watching her transformation over the past two months has been incredible. She went from a frightened, shut-down dog to a playful, affectionate girl who loves toys, walks, dogs, cuddles, and simply being near her people. She just needs someone who will continue to give her the patience and understanding that have helped her blossom. In return, you’ll get a sweet, funny, playful companion who will show you more of her personality every day. If you think you could be the family Sheba has been waiting for, please apply at bcaaofnj.org!

Please click here for our location and visiting hours. The JSAC has careful policies on the placement of young animals, dominant breed dogs (Rottweilers, Shepherds, Akitas, etc) and we give preference to homes in the Eastern PA, New Jersey, Southern New York and Northern Delaware region (please note: we do not ship animals). We prefer homes in the region so that we can be a resource for the animals and their adopters. These policies and procedures are in place to protect everyone involved and are very common when rehoming animals, whether through a shelter or a rescue group. We do not have "same day" adoptions. Rather, an application for an animal is reviewed to ensure that 1) the home has taken good care of their other animals * 2) The animal is permitted in the home and 3) that it is the right home for the right animal (choosing dog that likes cats if cats already in household, etc..). Typically this process takes 24-48 hours. If a dog application is approved and there are other dogs in the home, we have the two (or more) dogs meet; many times if necessary.

Adopting a dog in Browns Mills
Most rescues ask you to fill in an application, meet the dog, and pay an adoption fee that usually covers spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip. Many are foster-based, so you'll often meet your dog in a volunteer's home rather than a shelter.
Senior dogs are often the calmest companions and the slowest to find homes. If you'd like a settled, affectionate dog, ask the rescues about their older residents.
Puppies go quickly, so if you've fallen for one, contact the rescue soon. Ask how big they're expected to grow, and plan for plenty of house-training and training in the first few months.
