While our volunteers will try to respond to you as quickly as possible, it is helpful if you review the below information about our adoption process before emailing:LISTED BREED(S) & AGE: We are taking our best guess on age, breed, and size when fully grown, based on the puppy's/dog's physical appearance and what we might have learned about one or both parents depending on the situation. NOTE We rarely know a dog's exact age, nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. 3. Betsy
Senior · Female · Pit Bull Terrier / Terrier / Mixed · 87 mi from Albany

Name: BetsyAge: 9.5Current Weight: 65Rescued from: Texas*Adoption fee: $400Meet Betsy; also known as Betz Betz, Da Betz, Betz and quite possibly your new favorite potato. Some dogs make friends wherever they go. Betsy has practically made a career of it.She has visited nursery schools to help teach little ones about rescue dogs, spent time at multiple schools and children’s camps, and attended a large childhood cancer event. Through it all, Betsy has been a social, affectionate rockstar; making friends, collecting love, and showing people just how wonderful a rescue dog can be.That’s the Betsy we know and love.
Read more about Betsy
A sweet, friendly and very social girl who loves people, has been wonderful with children of all ages, and loves other dogs. She’ll make you smile just by being herself. And when her social calendar clears? She’s perfectly happy to return to her other calling: being a potato. Oh and Betsy LOVES to give kisses. Lots and lots of kisses if you will let her. Now a senior, Betsy has experienced far too much bouncing around through sad circumstances. A dog who has brought so much happiness to others deserves one final, wonderful home where she can settle in, feel secure, and spend her remaining years being someone’s cherished girl. There is one important part of Betsy’s story her future family needs to understand. Her family must be committed to preventing escapes, using a secure fence or leash, and carefully managing doors, gates, and transitions. Betsy has bitten in the past ( thankfully nothing too scary or serious) when she escaped and was running loose. This is serious, even though it is very different from the affectionate, easygoing dog we know in everyday life. When safely contained, ther are not any concerns. Her wonderful history with people and children matters but we want to be forthcoming regarding her bites. We want a family who understands both, and who can give her the structure and security she needs while appreciating the incredibly special dog she is.Betsy has also done very well during introductions to calm, stationary cats. Her response to cats who run or dart around remains uncertain, so a home with cats would need further consideration.Somewhere out there is someone with a soft spot for a senior potato, a secure home, and room in their heart for Da Betz. She’s spent so much of her life making friends. Now she deserves a family who stays. Betsy cannot be adopted or fostered into the state of Connecticut. To apply to adopt, fill out an application at https://snarrnortheast.org/adopt/PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR FAQs

She is very sweet and has an adorable rounded head. She likes to be held, is good in a crate, goes on a wee pad and loves to play with toys. She was born at the Rescue. Welcome Juliette to CCPAL Rescue. Juliette is a Chug (Chihuahua/Pug) puppy. She weighs 4 pounds and is 9 weeks old. She will be a small dog full grown. She should be 12 pounds or less. She is very sweet and has an adorable rounded head. She likes to be held, is good in a crate, goes on a wee pad and loves to play with toys. She was born at the Rescue. They took in a stray female and she was pregnant. This means the puppies get lots of attention and are very used to being in a loud and roudy environment. Juliette would be best in a home that the person doesn’t work all day everyday. She needs to finish up her puppy training. Social pups make great adults and now is the time for her to spend time with her family and to go places and let people pet her. She is an AMAZING puppy. She would be fine with children. Due to her small size, we would like children to be 8 or older. She is getting her puppy vaccines and will have 3. She will then be ready for spay and adoption. She can be adopted locally in Texas or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states.

26. Maximus
Young (1 year 7 months) · Male · Boxer (short coat) · 84 mi from Albany

79lbs OF BOXER ENERGY, COMING RIGHT UP!
Meet Maximus! He’s 1.5 years old, full of bouncy Boxer energy, obsessed with squeaky stuffies, and convinced he’s a lap dog. ❤️
The problem? Shelter life is overstimulating, and Max needs more exercise, enrichment, and structure than the shelter can consistently provide. Give this boy a chance to burn off some energy, and even that enthusiastic leash-grabbing can improve!
Max is dog social, people social, neutered, and up to date on vet care. He’s having a hard time in the shelter, and we’d love to see him decompress and do his zoomies in a home.

28. Princess
Adult (4 years 2 months) · Female · Chihuahua / Terrier / Mixed (short coat) · 71 mi from Albany

Meet Princess!
A spirited four-year-old Chihuahua mix currently in San Diego, CA, whose big personality shines through her adorable white coat with golden patches. Weighing just eight pounds, this tiny sweetheart has the confidence of a much larger dog and a heart overflowing with love for her favorite people!
Read more about Princess
Princess takes her royal title seriously! As the self-appointed leader of her canine pack, she enjoys keeping everyone informed about visitors, especially delivery people. She is quick to sound the alarm when someone approaches the door, making her a pint-sized neighborhood watch captain. Although vocal, Princess has no history of biting or snapping. With patience, positive reinforcement, and consistent routines, she can learn to feel more comfortable when visitors arrive.
When she isn't supervising her surroundings, Princess enjoys running, jumping, chasing balls, and playing with soft toys. After an exciting play session, she's equally happy curling up for a relaxing nap. Her favorite place is wherever her special person happens to be!
Princess is house-trained, crate-trained, and knows commands including sit and come. She appreciates predictable feeding and sleeping schedules. Being alone can make her nervous, so a comfortable crate helps keep her settled and away from tempting trash cans.
This affectionate girl gets along with cats and enjoys the company of adults and respectful children, particularly older kids. While she can coexist with other dogs, Princess is selective about her canine companions. She would likely thrive initially as the only dog, with carefully managed introductions if another pup joins her family.
Princess has no known medical conditions, although she experiences some anxiety, and her spay surgery is upcoming. Monthly grooming helps keep her beautiful coat looking lovely. Because she can jump fences, secure outdoor spaces and attentive supervision are important.
Above all, Princess needs a patient, loving family who appreciates her protective spirit, playful energy, and affectionate nature. She'll bring laughter, companionship, and plenty of Chihuahua charm to everyday adventures! Could this tiny queen with a mighty heart be the loving companion you've been waiting to welcome into your family? To learn more about adopting Princess, contact adopt@joyfulpets.com.

Adopting a dog with children in Albany
Bring the whole family to meet the dog before you adopt, and ask the rescue how the dog behaves around children your kids' ages.
Teach children to let the dog come to them, to stroke gently, and to leave the dog alone while it's eating or sleeping. Give the dog a bed or crate of their own to retreat to, and always supervise young children with a new dog.
Relaxed adult dogs are often a better match for young children than puppies, which jump up, nip and chew while they learn.
